Monthly Rentals in Shimanto, Takaoka District

We stayed at Mori’s place for 8 nights and had the most amazing time. It is a lovely cabin in the forest, very peaceful, with only the sound of the birds. The cabin is cosy, with good hot and cold AC, and lots of blankets. There is a lovely bath. Mori made the cabin himself, it’s amazing! The cabin is right on the Shikoku pilgrimage trail, with lots of options of walks through the forest from the door. We walked to Temple 44 in just under an hour, and into Kumakogen to a cafe (Kuma Cafe, which was great). There is a good supermarket in Kumakogen where you can get all of your supplies. You can get to the cabin on the bus from Matsuyama JR station, it was really easy. Then Mori was kind enough to pick us up from Kumakogen. Mori was the most friendly and generous host. He invited us for coffee, and took us on some amazing trips to see the local area - Temple 45 + Omogo Gorge. You won’t find a kinder air bnb host! Thank you so much for your generosity and hospitality! We will be back!

It was a renovated old house, and it was very beautiful and clean, with tatami mats and a living room. It is about 7-8 minutes on foot to the nearby Shimanto River. It was a place where children could really enjoy catching bugs like dragonflies and playing in the water with floats. However, it was an accommodation through the sinking bridge, so I was afraid to drive at first, but the wind was not strong, so I got used to it after going through it several times. The BBQ hut was really open, and I was able to relax and enjoy it. The host was polite, kind, and flexible, and it was a really great trip. It's also helpful that sorting the garbage is easy! There is a door in the bathroom that opens directly to the outside, so it is very convenient to go to the bath after playing in the water. It was a very relaxing and nice place to enjoy the extraordinary!

We went to the place as a family of four, as we arrived very late, the place is in the woods and its abit dark and narrow, but with host’s instruction we still manage to find the way in. It’s a renovated old wooden house in the woods, it’s good to experience the old traditional Japanese style. And you can really feel the nature in the morning with singing birds around. Two things to note is the bathroom is separated from the main house and it’s abit not convenient. And highly recommend to arrive daytime so you can see the road clearly. But if you are a nature person, this is a good place to go and it’s also near the Shimanto city which you can do cycling along the river and enjoy the view.

We stayed at Rosie’s AirB &B (a traditional Japanese house around 10 mins’ drive from Shimanto Town) for 6 nights. While it retains the beautiful Japanese style, the house is spacious and comfortable, and equipped with almost everything a modern house has. The location is perfect for exploring interesting spots around Shimanto and at the southern end of the island. Rosie was very helpful whenever we needed her help; and things are well labeled in the house. Definitely, a great place to stay!
