Very nice. Quality amenities from the pots and pans to the wonderful towels. Appliance where new as well as the furnishings. The coffee maker used both K cups and brewed pot of coffee. We only had 3 people stay this time but there is plenty of room to accommodate 8 people easily. This location is about halfway between Kona and the Volcano Park. It is about a 1-hour drive to see the volcano. There are several beaches nearby. Beach chairs and beach towels were supplied. Washer and dryer were new and worked well. We stayed for 5 weeks. The large lot has many fruit trees and flowers. We would stay here again. The property manager was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. We really liked the self-check-in. The keys to the house were in a lock box on the front door.

The Sugar Shack was a great stop on our vacation. Gary was an exceptional host and showed us all the great snorkeling areas. We were very happy with the communication and all he provided at his rental.

This place was like a garden of Eden. It was an amazing home and property. BEAUTIFUL in all aspects. Extremely spacious and comfortable. Like an upscale hotel...it was amazing. The outside has fruit trees of many types that we were welcome to eat from. There was only one thing missing from the residence...air conditioning. Some could say that A/C is unnecessary because it doesn't get that hot where this residence is located. We found we had to leave the windows open all the time to keep it cool enough for us in June. Leaving the windows open also meant that we were easily woken by the rooster's crowing in the early morning. The only thing I would emphasize to possible guests is look on the map and verify how far you have to drive to get to this residence. It is not located near a populated area and you will have to drive some distance to get most places. However, it is a wonderful place of solitude. Wonderful and proactive host!

This is an affordable option that is great for tranquility and remoteness, away from the crowds of Kona. It was the perfect stop from Hilo to Volcanos to Kona. Plenty of beach options to keep yourself occupied for a few days in the area. Make note that this does not have a kitchen but James has set up a great grilling space to enjoy the views while you cook and dine. There is a sink in the first floor to help with washing the prep of raw fish/meat and cleaning dishes afterwards. The place was super clean. Beds were very comfortable. And the temps were delightful (in June).
