Location Location Location! FYI this is not a traditional Airbnb stay. It’s just another way to book a room at the Norseman hotel (and pay additional fees to Airbnb). The hotel room itself is pretty basic - an outdated bathroom and paper-thin walls that allowed us to hear every stomp of our upstairs neighbors and every TV show of the room behind us. But it’s clean and super convenient, and the price is right. The room is located in back of the hotel on the tidal river, so you won’t see or hear the ocean, and the river is on the other side of some pavement and an electric utility pole. But you do have easy river access and a nice view of the sunset from a private deck. And a short sandy trail around the hotel brings you straight to the beach. The room has everything you need for a short stay - mini fridge, microwave, and air conditioning (which comes in handy when you’re trying to drown out the sound of the neighbor’s TV). It also has large windows on two sides. There’s limited privacy because you’re looking out onto the parking lot, and some of the shades are busted and don’t go back up once you pull them down. I spent about 20 minutes coaxing one of our shades back up so I could enjoy the view. While the accommodations are pretty basic, what made this a great stay was the location. You are right on Ogunquit beach. Walk out your door, grab your beach chair, and go. You’re even close enough to use your hotel bathroom during your beach day instead of the public restroom facility. Parking for the unit is in the public lot across the street, which makes loading and unloading a bit inconvenient, but is actually great if you plan to spend your day at the beach. Keep all your beach stuff in the car and it’s right there waiting for you just steps from the sand. And you don’t have to pay the $35/day public parking fee (except for the day you check out, if you want to stay for the day - and I think they give you a reduced guest rate). The other great aspect during Covid is that you have your own private entrance. You’re not walking into a building and going up and down a narrow hallway or into an elevator with other people. And your deck is private, unlike many of the other rooms at the hotel that share a big long balcony. Despite the minor inconveniences, this place is a great value and super convenient if you want to spend your days at the beach (and be right there to catch the sunrise). If you want something a bit fancier, see if any of their oceanfront rooms are available! Those look pretty sweet. But for one or two budget-minded guests, this makes for an excellent getaway. I hope I’ll get to return soon!
