We arrived one day later than we had originally planned and Ilona was so kind to allow a late check-out on the next day, so there was no stress with the appointments we had in Alimena. The place itself is really nice, it's one room per floor, bedroom 1 on the ground floor, kitchen and bathroom on the first and bedroom 2 + terrace on the second floor. The second bathroom is in the cellar. It looked nice but we didn't use it. Our impression of Alimena was very good, great views, a picturesque village and very friendly people.

A heads-up: as clearly mentioned in the description, this house is about stairs: you need to be comfortable with them. And now the crescendo: the location is a 5-star one, it does not get any more down-town than this, everything is within a short walk. The apartment is a 5-star plus. Comfortable, perfectly climatized, well lit, spic-and-span clean and possibly the best furnished we ever rented (it has everything one can think of and then some). The hosts are a 6-star couple not just because they are proactive, attentive and responsive but because, as the thoughtfulness they put in furnishing the house shows, they actually care. The bottle of wine and the home-made cake one is greeted with are just the icing on the ‘cake’. The final 10 stars: the impeccable business ethics. We had a small mishap due to directions they gave us, and they took care of it without even us having to mention it. You will be in very good hands with them.

We had a good time in la gisamea, the special location, the unique garden and the lovingly furnished house made us very happy. On some fresh days in the spring, the heating and fireplace worked really well. Anne was always available for our questions and Massimo was quickly on site when necessary. Just behind the house you can hike into the adjacent nature reserve, the path to the local mountain, the second highest peak in the area (about 1700 m) is worthwhile. In May, nature was lush and colorful, a huge garden full of plants and animals. The area is one of the richest in water in Sicily. The surrounding villages are picturesque, sometimes quite bustling, excursions there are really recommended. All purchases can be made within 4-8 km, even the tire service in the neighboring village helped us easily and inexpensively without special Italian language skills. For nature lovers, la gisamea is a recommendation.

Staying at Caterina and Francesco’s home in Nicosia was one of the most special experiences of our trip to Sicily. The house itself was cozy, welcoming, and full of charm — but what truly made our stay unforgettable was the warmth and generosity of their family. One of the absolute highlights was being invited by Caterina’s and Francesco’s wonderful parents to learn how to cook a traditional Sicilian three-course dinner. Not only did they patiently teach us step-by-step, but we also got to share the meal together, creating memories we’ll treasure forever. It was an experience filled with kindness, laughter, and incredible food — truly a taste of real Sicilian hospitality. We felt like part of the family and left with full hearts (and full stomachs!).
