I had no idea where to go walking and the host immediately gave me several recommendations. Artie's Lodge overlooks Lake Windmere with a stunning, undisturbed view. The place inside is kept extremely clean and is full of character and quirks. The lodge is very well furnished. My favourite bits were the massive bed and amazing bathtub! I went with the full English breakfast and certainly wasn't disappointed. The meat was extremely flavourful and those home grown eggs! I came away having really enjoyed my stay and just wished I were staying longer. I would definitely stay here again.”
The house, dating back to 1837, has been refurbished to a very high standard. The lake is less than 50 metre from the property boundary, so there are lake views from many rooms and from the large gardens and meadow. We have 4 luxurious double bedrooms, all ensuite, there is a beautiful kitchen and dining room, and an elegant drawing room. Close to Ambleside (centre of the Lake District), with easy access to other villages, the lakes, and the fells. On site parking. As good as it gets!

I can see that the hostess is a very aesthetic and tasteful person. The location is on a small hillside by the lake, and the main suite and living room are facing Lake Windermere with superb views. The kitchen and bath are fully equipped and the supplies are excellent. It's also great to prepare food and wine and make your own dinner. Floor heating + heating throughout the house, it is warm as soon as you enter the house in cold winter, making people feel like home ”
The Retreat @The Knoll is wonderful private, romantic ground floor Cottage/Apartment for 2 people, a short stroll away from Lake Windermere. It has a large lounge with dining area, kitchenette and bathroom with double ended bath with a good power shower. There is a 43" smart TV, DVD and Freesat TV. The lounge also has a fabulous gas wood burning stove. The french doors lead out on to a private terrace with a hot tub, seating and BBQ. Relax your aching bones after a day on the fells in style!

The hot tub especially was a massive bonus! We took a walk from the apartment without even having to get in the car and were able to spend a few hours out in the National Park looking out to the mountains, so the location was perfect.”
