Cottage in Friday Harbor
5 out of 5 average rating, 11 reviewsDragon House - in sun dappled mossy madrona forest

It would be impossible to overstate the beauty of this place in the woods. The host described it as paradise, and I can’t help but agree. Although the guest house is very close to the main house, and those looking for seclusion may be disappointed, the host was sensitive to issues of privacy. The house itself is a fascinating work of architecture. Those who are familiar with the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Antonio Gaudi, and even Mies van der Rohe, will find interesting parallels in this space. (I thought of Mies every night, getting out of the shower in front of a shadeless picture window.) The furniture inside consists of artfully selected pieces chosen especially for the space—beautiful, but not especially comfortable. I was very glad I remembered my hammock and could enjoy the forest and a book while lying under the trees rather than trying to relax inside the house. The location of the rental just above Limekiln State Park and West Side Preserve is ideal for hikers.

We really enjoyed our month’s stay! John and Sarah were excellent hosts with plenty of local knowledge and activity recommendations. The unit was well equipped for both short and longer stays, with amenities for young children (high chair, etc.) upon request. Most appreciated, they were very family friendly hosts who were happy to have young children stay. The location is ideal with parks and grocery stores nearby. Most of Victoria’s urban area is within a 15-minute drive, making it a perfect home base for exploring the southern island. I would certainly recommend this spot when visiting Victoria.

Farm stay in Friday Harbor

Had a great time in this glamping setup, in a roomy tent shaded by trees (Queen bed, firm but comfortable), with a 4-chair umbrella cafe table and our own camp kitchen. We had camping gear but would have been fine with the basics provided - sink w/ running cold water, stove, pots, dishes, cups, utensils incl. can opener, cooler, unobtrusive garbage/recycling buckets w/ lids, etc. Amanda's camps are completely separated for privacy, and steps away from a pretty farm with paths to walk around. We loved the roomy wood outdoor shower, with great water pressure and very warm water. We were close to everything on San Juan, including Friday Harbor (15 min drive). The front gate was easy to open and close on our way in and out. As others have mentioned, a single porta-potty shared with other sites isn't ideal, but it was serviced midway through our three-day stay & we never ran into anyone there or at the shower. Woke to the rooster/animals, as advertised. Private and a great value!

I booked this stay for our engagement trip. We mainly used it as a place to sleep and we were frequently gone but when we were there it was extremely peaceful, quiet and felt like you were deep in the woods. There were marked signs showing which driveway it was otherwise would have been very hard to find it feels so secluded. The property was very beautiful and the cabin was well accommodated for us. We had no issues while staying here other than the occasional giant spider showing up, but that's to be expected in dense woods like this. We loved our stay here and loved exploring the island. Shannon's place was a great spot to come back to after a long day of exploring.
