Pet-friendly holiday rentals in Southwest Harbor

This is a beautiful hidden little gem. The cottage is right on the water facing west, perfect to catch the sunsets every night. The place is comfortable and homey. The local store (Dunbar’s) had everything we needed and more, including a deli and hot food. We enjoyed some time in Acadia, which is about an hour drive, but trust me it was worth the drive to stay at Plover’s Cottage. I would definitely stay again. Mark, the host, was available for questions and even brought more firewood to make sure we got to enjoy the fireplace.

James’ place was absolutely amazing! The views of the lake are stunning and he graciously accepts dogs in his home. We had access to the canoe and kayaks and fire pit, which could easily be enough for a stay in the house. The house was clean and in a private area. I would recommend this lake house to anyone looking for a quiet retreat. If I were to stay here again, the only thing I would do is probably bring my own pans to cook with.

I wrote this while on GCI! Enjoy! The Winds changed without a word. The Wind changed and so did the temperature down seven degrees. It had been so quiet. It had taken a little time to get used to the silence once we arrived on the island. Eventually the silence was replaced by a constant easterly wind as the September temperature reminded me that summer here was wanning. Fall begins today, right on que and even though I felt in isolation I did not feel alone, as the winds, for sure, were making sounds like peoples chatter and for a moment I had to turn my head and listen to make sense of the mystery and the wonder I've experienced through mother nature. We loved the house. The location was just enough off the main roads to be quiet, but still convenient. Carol was kind enough to recommend some excellent dining options. The kitchen & baths were very well stocked and equipped. We especially enjoyed the fireplace on the spacious screened porch. Our only complaint, and not a big one, is that the boiler is quite loud. We all agreed that we would definitely like to stay at the house again.

This house is remarkably beautiful and welcoming. The walls of windows welcome sunshine throughout and the private views of the water are unmatched. Artistic details abound in the interior - like Anthro and West Elm had a baby. We vacationed with our toddler and my in-laws and we all had ample space to gather, as well as disperse. Highly recommend! Local recs: The Activity Shop for kayak rental delivery, pizza from Blaze, coffee from Bucklyn, brunch at Humblebee Cafe, sundries from Blue Hill Co-op, blueberry pie from Mount Desserts (on way to Acadia).

Kinfolk cottage was fabulous! Beautiful home, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, large dining area, and a lovely backyard with fire pit and hammock! Wish we could have stayed longer it was a true home away from home! Perfect for our family getaway to Acadia. Walkable to town and minutes to the park. Anne was a lovely host and was very responsive! Even my kids commented on how great the house was compared to other Airbnb experiences! We hope to return next year! Thank you Anne!

A beautiful house in a beautiful location! Beth was wonderful to deal with and very communicative. She kept in touch with us prior to our trip, and she patiently answered any questions we had during the trip. The views from the patio and living room are fantastic, and the area is very quiet. Both the Park and Bar Harbor are a short drive a way. This is a great place to stay on a trip to Bar Harbor.

Adorable cottage, newly renovated. Perfect for two with an open space loft for one more. Kitchen is well stocked right down to the coffee. A good location if visiting Fort Knox, Mt. Barrie and not too far from Bar Harbor if that is on your list. Great stay, highly recommend. Beautiful view and private.

My return visit to the Boathouse was even lovelier than I hoped it would be. The location can't be matched by anything else I've seen. I enjoyed a September visit with my dog and was lucky to have pristine weather. I lived a very simple and healthy outdoors life and came home the better for it. The Boathouse is true to its description: it is simple and rustic and uncomplicated but well-equipped, and is perfect for one-and-dog, or for two people. A little coming-and-going from the neighboring houses meant that I didn't feel isolated. Margaret is truly an exceptional and friendly host who communicates promptly and clearly. I almost hesitate to share "my" Boathouse location with too many of my back-home friends because it feels so intimate and special. I already want to be back there. I offer my deep thanks to Margaret and to the place that I could - briefly - call home.

We got a very rainy week in Maine but still enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable and well stocked house, views, decks and incredible garden. Beautiful restaurants, bookstores and wine and antique shops near by. Hope to return to very soon.

I recently stayed with my family at this incredible Airbnb that exceeded all my expectations. This property offered a hot tub, a pool table, and a level of privacy and tranquility that made for a truly relaxing getaway. One of the highlights of our stay was being able to watch the northern lights from the hot tub – it was absolutely magical. We spent a week in Acadia, and the location was perfect, just 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor or the nearest town. The hosts were very responsive, and the place was fantastic for families, being both kid and pet friendly. It was a week filled with unforgettable moments, and I can't recommend this place enough!

The location was perfect - you didn’t need your car to get around. We were right at the main square or park with lots of interesting shops and restaurants close by. We were 10 minutes from Acadia National Park. Highly recommend spending the extra $6 to drive up Cadillac Mountain. The unit was well appointed, clean, and had games for the kids to play. I did’t care for the shower but I am not used to a claw-foot tub shower. Overall really enjoyed our stay!

We had a great stay at this house! Plenty of beds for everyone. Convenient to get to Acadia and bar harbor with a short drive!

The location is amazing — just down the road from Acadia, on the Schoodic Peninsula, which in my opinion is even more pristine and beautiful than the main part of the park. The cabin itself is incredible — warm, spotless, charming, and very well-stocked. Beautiful views of the water, super relaxing vibes. I especially loved the sunroom and the deck — perfect for unwinding! The host was super friendly, helpful, and incredibly responsive — made everything so easy and welcoming. We hope to be back soon!

A great place to stay in such a great area. Feels so in the middle of nowhere but in a good way. The stars are beautiful at night, the house was gorgeous, and they have plenty of games to play since there is no TV. But we didn’t miss the TV at all! Whoever sleeps upstairs will be forced to wake up with the sun because of the lack of curtains but also not a bad problem to have :) And the bathroom floors are heated, which is such a nice amenity!

My family and I stayed here for a week on MDI and totally felt at home. This place is cozy without feeling crowded at all, and they have included everything we could have possibly needed, from useful kitchen utensils and containers to a box of tissues in every room! I really liked being able to store our bicycles in the shed out of the weather - although the weather turned out to be great. There are some lovely garden areas all around the home as well and it was a pleasure to watch the flowers continue to bloom during our stay.

We were delighted to stay at the Doll's House for our Acadia adventures. The cottage was easy to find on the quiet side of the island. The upstairs had ample room to spread out, featuring a comfortable reading chair and a king-size bed. The kitchen was compact but had everything and more that we needed to prepare meals. Having access to a huge washer and dryer was extremely helpful, as were the pamphlets and large maps. The glass doors from the deck and entrance let in a lot of light and let us enjoy our time between hiking and sightseeing. We are counting on returning some day to enjoy the deck, since we couldn't with the rainy weather we had. Thanks Alan!

We really enjoyed our time here with our two dogs. We came in their off season so locally most things were closed but Bar Harbor was a short drive and we were still able to enjoy the park even in the rainy weather. House was spotless and the hot tub was a nice surprise.

Spent a relaxing long weekend at the cabin. Idyllic location right on the water with plenty to do outside. We enjoyed making fires, fishing, and exploring in the canoe. Inside, the cabin was thoughtfully decorated and very comfortable. Camden is nearby for a nice dinner or a stroll and shopping downtown. Acadia is also close enough for a day trip. Checkin/checkout was very straightforward, and the host was helpful and quick to answer any questions. Hope to visit again!

We absolutely loved our stay at the A-Frame! The house is located on the Quiet Side of the Island on a private secluded road that was so peaceful. We really enjoyed the property which included a large backyard and looked out over the water, both the sunrises and the sunsets from here were incredible. Erin's home was clean, well decorated and had all the amenities we needed for our stay, we felt right at home the entire week we stayed. Although it was only my husband and I with our two dogs, the home was large enough for a family and had plenty of space to hang out and enjoy. We really loved how close it was to Southwest Harbor where we enjoyed the restaurants and shopping as well as walking around. We were also able to explore Acadia National Park which was under a thirty minute drive from here and very easy to access. We would highly recommend Erin's home to anyone visiting the area!
