Family-friendly holiday rentals in Rockbridge County

This place in the mountains is BEAUTIFUL! I wanted to stay longer. I was there for my graduation from Liberty University. It was about an hour away, but it worked for me because the property was large enough to house all of my family and friends. Jennifer was VERY responsive. The kitchen was amazing. There is a Food Lion about 6 minutes away down the hill, and restaurants. My grandsons and niece loved the outdoor play area. My husband loved the fire pit. I loved sitting on the porch on the swing. Overall the house and stay was amazing! The location is wonderful and the house is great. The only way to improve the space for smaller children is for the windows in the upstairs bedrooms to have curtains on the upper windows.

We absolutely loved our stay here! It is quiet, peaceful and has a beautiful river flowing behind the house with a tree swing. We enjoyed our coffee on the screened-in porch watching the ducks swim around in the river with their babies. If you have a student at W&L or VMI, this is a perfect location! Our daughter just graduated from W&L. I wish I would have discovered this gem sooner!

We were looking for a cabin, hoping to find a quiet place to rest, relax and recharge in nature. We never dreamed that we would find an authentic 18th century cabin located in the forest on a mountain top - with an excellent view of the surrounding mountains. The inside of the cabin was beautifully furnished as would be expected in colonial Virginia. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the experience of stepping back in time.

Peaceful, secluded cottage with an easy walk down to a beautiful section of the Maury River.

The location was super convenient to W&L, the size and layout of the home was perfect for two families, the beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well appointed with all the supplies anyone could need. We hope to return one day! Many thanks to Tasha for kindly hosting us!

We had an amazing time! The cottage was clean, extremely stocked with lots of extras which was so nice. The views are incredible. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. They are close if you need anything but the house is very private. The adults, kid and dogs loved it! Hope to come back again!

It was our second visit. The first visit was about 2 years ago. As soon as we walked through the door, it was as if we never left. It was just as lovely and welcoming as we remembered. The house is comfortable, well equipped, and spotlessly clean. The large, covered porch is perfect for enjoying the outdoors and the views. It’s completely secluded and private, yet less than 2 miles to the center of town. Don’t worry if you think you have forgotten to bring something you might want for the kitchen or bathroom. You will find everything you need, and probably much more! We look forward to a return visit, and plan to make it a bit sooner next time. Thanks Vicki and Jennifer!

Great place, driveway is a bit tricky to turn around in if you have a big car or bring more than one car.

The location was perfect for our needs. The house is close to downtown, the neighborhood is quiet, and we felt very comfortable in the home. We would definitely rent the house again when we return.

We schedule family getaways to a cabin for time to relax and rest twice a year. We’ve stayed at numerous cabins, and this was our favorite by far. Heaven on Highlands is beautifully furnished and maintained. Everything we needed in the kitchen and throughout the home was readily available. Joyce and Jamie were excellent communicators providing clear checkin and checkout instructions as well as responding quickly to any questions that we had. They went above and beyond in allowing us early checkin and late checkout. And, having firewood provided was a wonderful bonus. We will stay here again if schedules allow.
