Cottage holiday rentals in Potomac River

This was a lovely house with a beautiful, private backyard by a river. The inside of the home was pristine and there was not a single detail that Lori and John did not think of. I highly recommend this place for a peaceful couples’ retreat. I had an amazing time!

We really enjoyed our stay! The cottage is very clean and organized. It was perfect for my husband and I. We had our two tiny dogs as well and they enjoyed the yard and the peaceful surroundings. The bed was super comfy which is so important to me. I slept great! We enjoyed the hot tub each night of our stay (4 nights.) 3 minutes down the road is one of the most beautiful lakes and parks I have ever been to. It's huge with lots of woodsy hiking trails and expansive meadows. It's awesome that Cayla provides paddleboards to get out on the gorgeous lake. Last, I really appreciate the thorough instructions for how to use the appliances (heating/cooling, coffee maker, hot tub, etc.) No guesswork here. I greatly appreciated the chalkboard and book of suggestions of things to do in the area as well. There is another cottage behind the front cottage with a big field separating the two and the driveway is shared. This was no problem for us. It still felt private and peaceful.

Our stay was exceptional and exactly what we were looking for. The breathtaking view of the mountains in the background was truly stunning. The home felt peaceful, warm, and very clean—perfect for a relaxing getaway. It was also conveniently located close to the main road. We had everything we needed in this charming, well-equipped home. We’ll definitely be returning!

Beautiful setting with large lawn and river. The home is spacious ,clutter free and comfortable. Peaceful setting but just a 10-15 drive to Luray and 20 min to Shenandoah park entrance. It has a remote feeling but it is a convenient base to visit the caverns, hiking Shenandoah, or grabbing a bite in Luray. We had temps in low 70's with no humidity so we also enjoyed sitting on the porch and listening to the river. Follow host instructions about downloading maps offline the GPS was reliable, but once we figured it out it is really quite simple.

A very nice place in a private setting. Had all the essentials. The pool and hot tub were especially nice. Loved the wine at the winery also🍷 Andrea was helpful and responsive with all questions. Highly recommend staying!

we loved the forethought they had for the needs of their guests. and a lot of times it was the 'little things' that had the greatest impact...the 'unnecessary' touches which made things so comfortable (ample hooks/cubbies/drawers, hot tub towels, plug-in nightlight/flashlights in every room, binoculars, great games, and more!). probably the best part of the experience was knowing they trusted & respected you as guests. there was almost a case of toilet paper & paper towels in the pantry, a full bottle of laundry detergent, tub of dishwasher pods, full pack of sponges, full bottles (NOT attached to a wall!) of shampoo/conditioner/body wash, etc. - and they weren't afraid you were going to take it all home w you! there was NO angst. just a wonderful experience. our final favorite part is that we were able to purchase the great "mountain mama" coffee mugs we enjoyed using during our stay. a great souvenir to have for such a memorable trip...

We had an amazing stay! The views of the mountains were absolutely stunning. The space was clean, comfortable, and just as described. We really enjoyed the short hike down to the river, such a beautiful spot. There was a grill and campfire set up right by the water, which we didn’t use, but it was a nice touch. Scott was always available to answer any questions, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet and comfortable getaway close to nature.

Our Happy Place was just that! The cute tiny cottage in the woods was absolutely amazing. It was the perfect quick get away for a long weekend. Sarah had everything we could have needed readily available for us. She even had a cute little library within walking distance from the cabin full of books and tons of games. We loved the “no rules” moto and enjoyed our time outside listen to music and enjoying the beauty all around us without having to worry about being too “loud”. Highly recommend this little gem if you’re looking for a secluded spot well within drivable distance to the quant little town of Orange, where we were welcome by several locals! As for Sarah, she is an amazing host! Sarah is very accommodating and is super quick to respond to any questions you may have. She has a passion for ensuring that her guests have an amazing experience. Thank you for sharing a tiny piece of your heart with us! Hope to visit again in the future!

Beautiful property, beautiful views, and an unbelievable night sky. It's definitely a place you want to try.

The listing first reported that the home is typically booked -- I now believe it probably would have been had it not been for sheer good fortune. The location on the water in the private-like inlet called Mill Creek adjacent to the Severn river near Annapolis Harbor and the Naval Academy was perfect. Though close to so many things -- including hearing bugles played in the evening and morning from the Academy -- it was also peaceful and calming. Michael was responsive within minutes of my texts and even accommodated an extra day's stay. Every possible amenity was available from add'l drinking water to makeup remover. All was clean and even the bedding in a humid environment was pristine. Remote controls were labeled and extra batteries in the pantry. Lots of Keurig pods. With easy evening bird watching on the side porch after working during the day on fast wireless internet, we were spoiled in this idyllic house. We will soon return with our spouses for more retreats!

Patti’s cottage is a lovely, affordable, quiet place near some great American historical sites. We wish we had had more time to spend there!

This was our second stay here. Second time was just as good as the first. The fenced yard for the dog was what originally made us book here, but the beautiful location and well-appointed house will keep us coming back. This trip was the first time we were able to use the walk on access to Montpelier and that was a nice added bonus.

Donnie was a wonderful host. He was very flexible and made sure that we had what we needed. The place was a perfect respite!

Beautiful surroundings, with the lake just steps from the door. The cabin had everything we needed for a 4 night stay. Great mix of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. We absolutely loved it!

quiet get away spot- very quiet. No direct access to sand/water; just a view - (we knew that going in)- you have to walk a little to get a small little public beach area...but thats not why we went. Just to get away for a weekend from city noise; the place was great. walked dog off leash.

Michael’s place is wonderful. We can’t wait to come back! It is full of thoughtful touches, including snacks and kitchen essentials. We loved how dog friendly it is and the wonderful fenced in yard for our pup. The highlight is the river out front! We had the best time climbing out on the river rocks with the lovely fresh mountain water. This place is amazing and Michael is a great host. Thanks!

I had a fabulous stay at this little cabin! It’s just the right size for two people to get away relax and enjoy hiking in nature that is literally right outside the door. Kate was fantastic hostess and always willing to help make the stay as comfortable as possible.

We were in town for a wedding and this place was perfect for 5 of us. Everything was exactly as advertised. Would definitely stay there again!!!

This is not our first time staying at the Treehouse in Rockbridge Baths….that should be all I need to say but I have to expand a little further. This is one of our favorite places to stay on AirBnB! We have busy lives and have a hard time finding time off but this place just invites you to take a deep breath and slow down and listen to the sounds of the river. The setting is beautiful and is perfect for enjoying some downtime! Close to great hikes and access to the Maury river and Lexington is a short drive away. We have enjoyed showing up with our own food and trying to just get cozy and stay put. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for you to enjoy the space and not feel like you have to go anywhere. Thank you Michael and Sydney!!! We will be back!

We had a great time. The cottage is lovely, very well decorated, comfortable, it felt like home. We enjoyed the deck and the bonfire by the water. We would have loved to use the kayak and canoe but the weather was not amenable to it unfortunately. Julie was proactive and shared detailed instructions and local recommendations. She was responsive when I asked questions ahead of our arrival. I would totally recommend for a couple or family and would definitely come back.

What a charming and unique place to stay! We adored the animals, including the cats, and loved watching the horses all day. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful, scenic, and incredibly peaceful. The house was very homey and included everything you could possibly need. Internet was fast and the A/C was nice and cold in the summer heat. We did wish we could have made more use of the porch area—totally understand it’s the animals’ home first and foremost but chicken droppings were all over the porch furniture and seating and we couldn’t sit there. Overall a great stay!

The cottage was a perfect place for my daughter and her new husband’s wedding night and weekend! Christina made their stay so special. She was able to help me with surprising the newlyweds with a basket of goodies, fresh baked goodies, and drinks! They loved the surprise especially after a long day! The host was incredibly kind, helpful amd responsive! The cottage was so cute and very clean! Great location! Close to their wedding venue and local wineries and breweries! Highly recommend!

This is our second time staying at Tranquil cottage. It's a beautiful, clean, and comfortable place to stay close to Charlottesville and feels like home. We love the peaceful atmosphere and all the animal friends. And Cynthia is a great host. We'll definitely be back again.
