The cottage retains some of it's 19th century charm but has been renovated to be a practical and comfortable home.

It is a former croft with the original 100+ year old fireplace but with a modern interior. There is an open plan kitchen, dining and living room, double bedroom and shower room. It has a small garden and outdoor double seat. Parking is close to the property. There is a restaurant onsite. You can walk along the coast where there is also a sandy beach. No pets permitted.

Parking is available right outside, but if you visit without a car, regular buses from Stromness go to all areas of Orkney.

A 25 minute ferry crossing from Kirkwall will take you there. The cottage is 1 mile from the ferry point. Balfour village has a shop and post office, a licensed restaurant and a Heritage centre. There is an RSPB hide on the island. Electric bikes can be hired.
