Guest House Agae is a renovated traditional house that can only accommodate one group at a time. It is in a very convenient location, about 550 m (about 7 minutes on foot) to Kumano Kodo and Kinkou Oji, a supermarket (A-COOP), a bus stop (Kodo Aruki no Sato Chikatsuyu), and restaurants (Shoji Teahouse and Tororo-ya). The owner is a local Kumano Kodo guide, so we will do our best to accommodate your questions and advice about walking the Kumano Kodo, as well as pick-up and drop-off when you need it. We can also provide personal guides, so please let us know. Prices do not include meals. I stayed two nights at Narako san`s place near Shingu. It is a seperate building next to the main house. There is a bedroom, small kitchen and bathroom. It was very convenient for me as I came by car and served as a base to excursions to Kumano. I recommend this place.

Super friendly host and very charming old Japanese-style house. Cooking in the outdoor kitchen was a fun experience! The cluttered outdoor area added to the charm of the place and Eiko-san, and inside the house it was tidy and fairly clean!:) The area is super quiet and you can hear lots of birds, overall a very relaxing place. Eiko-san also has lots of good recommendations for nearby activities! However, if you’re a tall person - like my boyfriend - be aware that the doors are made for smaller Japanese people back in the day… lots of head bumping and headache potential if not careful! Since the bathroom is fairly small I went for a bath in a nearby bathhouse, a very short walk and very very affordable.
