Cottage holiday rentals in Ballantrae

Lakeside Cottage is beautiful, peaceful, steeped in history & easy to access once you know where it is, we drove past it 3 times lol. We were greeted with gorgeous fresh flowers in each room & a very tasty bottle of prosecco. Most Definitely will be going back at some point in the near future & can't recommend it enough as a quiet getaway - listening to the river Ayr was blissful!!

We had a lovely stay with our 3 dogs at heron view, we enjoyed the spacious living area and comfortable beds. The utility space was a great nook for the dogs if they were wet from walking. Lovely local pub (the Masonic) with friendly people and bar staff. The hot tub was a massive bonus! Thanks Donald We will be back!

A very beautiful cottage in a private setting. We were met by George on arrival. George was very friendly and informative. We instantly felt right at home. Welcome basket on the kitchen table was a lovely touch. We settled in very quickly and with ease as parking was right outside the cottage. We enjoyed the very clean hot tub in the evenings after our busy days out as well as excellent carryout deliveries. Quality of food was very good. Another highlight was watching the various types of birds feeding, which we could see from the kitchen table and seating area. Especially the Woodpecker which made a regular appearance. We all enjoyed a truly relaxing break in very comfortable and private surroundings. Our check-in and check-out was effortless. Thank you George and Amanda, we will certainly be back.

We had the perfect getaway with friends in this beautiful house by the sea. We were 4 adults and 3 young children and there was plenty of space for us all. There are lots of stairs which were difficult at times for the younger ones. But that didn’t take away from our stay. We got the hot tub which we thoroughly enjoyed once the kids were in bed. Would definitely recommend.

Had a great stay at Lilac Cottage, we were staying there as our son’s wedding was at Orangetree House, lovely cosy sitting room, well stocked kitchen and the cottage was spotless. Unfortunately we didn’t get the full benefit as it would be a great location for anyone to explore the Ards peninsula and across to Strangford and Mourne Country and come back to relax in the garden. Janet had also left us some ‘goodies’ and even Pooh bags for the dog! Apologies I took her for a walk and still have them 🙈 would 100% recommend and all being well will use again

Lovely peaceful stay in beautiful grounds. Lots of walks on the private grounds including walk to their private beach. Very tranquil and special place. We did a few day trips including Ayr PortPatrick some local areas for nice restaurants. My son loves football and we went to see local town Stranraer play on his birthday and they won. We saw lots of deer and nature everywhere. Children loved the zip wire and there was a games room which we didn’t manage to get to. Kate and Angus couldn’t have been more helpful, lots of great recommendations and wonderful welcome hamper which was delicious and appreciated. Beautiful place and private grounds bigger than expected. We were sad to leave and miss the lovely scenery. Thanks so much for a memorable trip.

We had an excellent stay in Sue's well-appointed, comfortable and cosy accommodation. We loved the view from the dining table! Nothing is very far from anywhere on Arran and Pirnhill proved to be a good base. Sue was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended.

We had the most wonderful stay at Blackside Cottage and can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and attention Andrew and Elizabeth put into making the place welcoming, comfortable, and beautifully presented. The cottage itself is immaculate – stylishly decorated, cozy, and fully equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen was a real highlight – far better stocked than most places we’ve stayed – and the log-burning fire made our evenings incredibly relaxing. The setting is just magical. Peaceful, private, and surrounded by stunning countryside, it was the perfect place to switch off and unwind. The freestanding bath was a real luxury – perfect for a long soak after a day of exploring. Andrew and Elizabeth were brilliant hosts. Everything was smooth from booking to check-out. This place is a real gem!

This little place is everything as described. If you're looking for a get-away & the sound (& view!) of the sea on your doorstep, this is it! You literally walk from the garden onto the beach! The tide goes out before lunch & you can walk along the whole stretch. The only people you'll meet are those living nearby, so it's really private. Our dog really enjoyed the run on the long garden & out onto the beach. We had fab weather, so we spent most of our time there; even managed a dip ... yes, it was cold, but very refreshing! We ate all our meals outdoors on the picnic bench; plenty of take-aways nearby, but also a well-equipped kitchen where we cooked also. Cosy sitting room with large TV & Netflix for 'nightlife'! Bathroom had a bath, which is always a plus for me! We really loved our stay here & though travelled 4 hours to get there, we'd do it again no bother! In fact, we were hard-pressed to get our dog back into the car to leave, so we've promised her a return visit! 😎

The Bothy is a great place to stay. Jenny is a very helpful host. Nice harbour short walk away. Quiet area. All as described. Would stay again.

We had a really lovely stay at the Bothy. Very homely and well equipped. Lovely quiet location next to the castle which the kids loved. Great having the climbing frame. We loved the area, so beautiful and quiet. Had a lovely day on Brighouse Bay and another walking part of the local coastal walk. Thank you Sarah for our much needed holiday x

This was our second stay in the cottage and it was lovely to be back again. The cottage is in a beautiful position with amazing views over the islands. We were lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy walks on the beach, another trip to Gigha and a walk across to Davaar island. It was lovely to meet John this time. He is a great host and always very responsive and helpful. Another enjoyable stay!

There was everything we could possibly need in the cottage which is so tastefully furnished including two reclining chairs in the conservatory which is where we spent most of our time. Even on the days it rained we could relax in the conservatory, reading or doing a jigsaw, and unwind. Gina and her husband are very friendly and helpful, making us feel at home. If we could give it six stars we would!

Drumla Cottage is a beautiful place and the views are stunning. Catherine is very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful throughout our stay. Everything that we needed was available at the cottage and it could not be faulted.

Place was lovely...excellent for kids and or family, parents....huge rooms...with sofas...great freindly host...there were so many things that were welcoming but not listed on property...like 100s of kids books, adult books, movie selection of cds....TV had dish channels....etc Bathrooms had soaps, Complimentary breakfast breads, cookies, milk amd wine too...is so nice when you reach a place and dont have to worry about. Beddings were lovely like 5 star hotel. Clean comfortable 500%. Only area of improvement i would say is google maps location slight error by 500 meter and access gate should be morr space to allow some safe diatance of 3 car length with an inner door perhaps as road is 60mph Galston place was amazing, Churches nearby, amazing architecture

Our stay could not have been nicer. The small cottage is cozy and surrounded by beautiful nature. Fiona and Paul were both super nice and easy going. We felt right at home. A large peacock came right to our door every morning and showed off his beautiful feathers. We biked on the National Cycle route #7 that goes right by their house. We also participated at The Gralloch, a yearly gravel biking race nearby. It was nice staying in very calm surroundings before the race.

We have just had a great stay at Kevin’s place, an ideal place for a group to enjoy a weekend on Arran. Secluded cottage a short walk up the hill from Lamblash, Marbeth was lovely when she greated us and nothing was to much trouble. Thanks

Booked for colleagues, the cottage is very clean, comfortable and and well equipped. Liz was extremely helpful and quick to response with our queries. We will book again when back in the area.

We loved staying at Louise's place for a night as we travelled up the west coast. Check in was easy and everything was nice and clean when we arrived. The garden in the back is lovely and the two woodburners give a lovely cottage feel to the place.

The cottage is full of character and very cosy. It’s in a great location with fantastic walks on the doorstep. Bea was at the cottage when we arrived. She was super helpful with advice and very friendly. She was the perfect host. Would definitely recommend any one staying here.
