Holiday rentals with a kayak in Strafford County

Every year we pick a place on the lake between Mother's and Father's day to celebrate over a weekend. We love to kayak and visit the local eateries while relaxing in nature. This year we were fortunate enough to find Katherine's home in Acton, ME for Memorial Day weekend. The house was spacious, comfortable, clean, and homey (and right on the lake)! Katherine and Nick were both very responsive and friendly with check-in check-out and we loved the places listed on their travel guide. The house is a short hour drive from Kennebunkport and Portland so we took some day trips during the rainy days and floated around the peaceful inlet of Mousam Lake when sunny. Leaving the inlet takes you to the rest of Mousam Lake where we saw motor boats, jet skis and one person wake boarding! Our old dog, Shaggy, had a blast and the long road leading to the property gave him the ability to run around without bothering any neighbors, who were all very friendly! Definitely worth a return visit!

Staying at Michael's lake house was the perfect retreat for our family. The first thing that stood out: The quiet. The house is on a cove just off the main lake, and it's so peaceful. We started our mornings with coffee on the screened in porch (yay no mosquitoes to worry about with kids!) and then spent the days kayaking, paddleboarding, and lying in the hammock. The lake itself is gorgeous and there's a sandbar that our girls loved! Meals were a breeze. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a lovely space to cook in (not to mention clean!). We grilled a couple of times too, which, for us, is a vacation must. It rained a little bit while we were there, but the house was well stocked with board games and honestly, everything was so beautifully decorated, it was just as relaxing indoors as outside. Gary and Nick were wonderful hosts, extremely accommodating and very communicative and flexible. The surroundings alone were so picturesque , each morning and dawn was like a painting - I’ll be back for sure !

Nice quiet farmhouse in a nice location. Near many restaurants and hiking spots. Very nice walking and running trails within 1/4 mile. House had all of the essentials needed for a relaxing stay.

This was an excellent stay! The house was beautifully situated on a peaceful lake, clean, and the location was perfect for relaxing weekend away. Plenty of space for seven adults. Wether it was roasting marshmallows by the fire or lounging in the hot tub, this house had something for everyone. The host was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout my entire stay. I would highly recommend this listing to anyone!

My family and I had a serene experience staying here. Although the weather was mostly rainy or cloudy, we loved the lake location and maximized the indoor, outdoor, and nearby activity options. The hosts were so responsive, regardless of the question, and made this a truly delightful visit. This was my parents’ first Airbnb experience and it set the bar higher than I could have imagined! My family and I are already talking about coming back!!

We loved our extended weekend at Gerda’s lakefront property. It was clean, easy check-in, everything we could have needed was there, and the set up was awesome!! We enjoyed swimming, floating, and beautiful campfires. Gerda was very responsive and kind. It was the perfect birthday getaway. Thanks Gerda!!

My husband and I found this lakefront cottage in Shapleigh restful and delightful. It was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and had all the amenities we needed for our getaway. On the terrace, we enjoyed our breakfast with a tranquil lake view. We explored the area and discovered great finds, including several walking trails. Like Williams Town Park Loop, which was an easy and enjoyable trail. A few of our recommendations include visiting MEE-D restaurant for a delicious Thai meal and watching a movie at Smitty’s Cinema in Sanford. We took a short drive to Kennebunk for some baked goods at Boulangerie and did some shopping and dining while there. Overall, we felt recharged and look forward to returning to this charming cottage in Maine.

This is the perfect lakeside cabin! It has all the essentials in a cozy set up. The beds were very comfortable and the third floor loft space was the perfect escape for our 13 year old. The cabin sits well above the lake offering fantastic views all day and faces west for the sunset. The lake is the perfect scale for boating and kayaking. Sanford is very close - 15 minute drive - with grocery stores, restaurants, laundromats, and a drive through ice cream joint. Sara’s communication was excellent. We would definitely rent again.

An absolutely wonderful cottage on a beautiful lake. West facing so lovely sunsets. The water is clear, clean and warm with a convenient pontoon to swim out to and back. The facilities were wonderful we used the kayaks and paddle boards. There is a well equipped games room (pool, table tennis and foosball). It’s perfect to keep kids entertained or just to relax. Also an outside pickle ball court. Dave and MB are very generous and welcoming hosts. One of the best accommodations we have ever stayed out. Highly recommend. Dave and Caroline

Walking into Andi‘s fishing cabin felt like going to grandma‘s house! It was so cozy and nice for our quick three day weekend in Maine. Everything that has been written in previous reviews is true. Including the extensive VHS collection lol! The view is beautiful, the atmosphere is peaceful, and we were so happy to sleep in the sunroom and wake up to the view of the lake Pond water in front of us. Easily accessible from the main road, close to restaurants, gas stations, and other amenities, including the Hannaford grocery. My fellow found himself on the dock fishing multiple times during our stay he caught a few trout. My favorite part is the fire pit area with the café lights. I love staying in the woods and this cabin fit our needs perfectly. Andi was a responsive host and we are grateful for his communication. Very positive and friendly! Hope to stay with you again next year!

When we first drove up to loon pond cottage, we felt right at home. It was like taking a gulp of fresh air. The cottage came with everything anyone could want or need. We highly recommend it.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The property is huge and very well maintained. The carriage house has plenty of room and very clever use of space. The house had everything we needed and more. Deborah was very accommodating and responsive. We would recommend this home to family and friends and anyone else!

It was the perfect spot for us to stay nearby the Pineridge Campgrounds for our son's wedding weekend. This is a lovely place. Highly recommend it !

Thoughtful hosts. Excellent amenities. Beautiful surroundings. Robin and Rich went above and beyond to ensure our family had a fun weekend. In addition to the many included amenities (frisbee golf, kayaks, swing set, outdoor fire place... the list goes on!) they ensured our toddler was the happiest camper by offering fun toys that kept him laughing and exploring all weekend. Their town of Wolfeboro had yummy breakfast spots and beautiful lake views and access to the rail trail. Nearby Castle on the Clouds made for a fun excursion and hike. We'd love to return!

Tammy’s place was the most perfect getaway! This cute cottage was a great spot for our honeymoon. It was secluded and quiet with a private dock to the lake. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor space for us to enjoy a little bit of everything. We got to take the boat onto the water and just relax in the sun. We used the fully stocked and prepared kitchen to cook many meals that we enjoyed on the closed deck. Tammy was kind and helpful from the moment we booked. This was a steal, I highly recommend!!

My wife and I stayed with our dog and it was wonderful, the lake was beautiful and full of fish! Great swimming area that our dog loved, and a dock to fish off. The cabin was perfect and was as shown in the pictures we enjoyed a Nice fire in the provided fire pit, before sleeping comfortably! 10/10 would stay again for sure

Christopher did a wonderful job communicating you didn't have anyone checking out for a loudest to check in early which was really nice it also is incredibly responsive. places absolutely beautiful well appointed I'm unlike a lot of places Guess leave things there so all your condiments etc are left by previous guests just nice because you have to bring less stuff on your trip that his place. we had a wonderful time in the town of wolfenberg is worth a visit.

We enjoyed a beautiful autumn weekend here at Melissa's lake cottage. It truly felt like a little home away from home! We enjoyed the firepit outside, and if we had better weather for the other days we were going to make use of the kayaks. Having a rainy day inside this place wasn't a downside at all, plenty of room for the three of us to spread out and enjoy some board games and creative writing. The loons calling outside and the surrounding fall foliage were extra treats! Melissa made it super easy and communicated quickly, even with my asking lots of questions. Definitely on my "will stay again if I can" list!!!

Maryjane was a fantastic host who takes great care of her beautiful cabin. She had a family medical emergency during our stay, but we both worked together to make our NYE trip a very memorable one. She is very responsive and friendly. Her home provides all of the charm of a cabin while also having modern appliances and features. We loved every second of our time here and would definitely stay here again!
