Pet-friendly holiday rentals in Somes Sound

This is a beautiful hidden little gem. The cottage is right on the water facing west, perfect to catch the sunsets every night. The place is comfortable and homey. The local store (Dunbar’s) had everything we needed and more, including a deli and hot food. We enjoyed some time in Acadia, which is about an hour drive, but trust me it was worth the drive to stay at Plover’s Cottage. I would definitely stay again. Mark, the host, was available for questions and even brought more firewood to make sure we got to enjoy the fireplace.

Anne and her husband were very helpful in giving us ideas and places to visit around south harbor and bar harbor. The place was clean and cozy and ideal for us for a 3 night visit. Would definitely recommend their place!

So many great things to stay about this fantastic Airbnb: amazing location, gorgeous backyard, everything was clean and neat. The hosts had excellent communication and were responsive as questions came up. They had great recommendations for supermarkets, hikes, local restaurants. There were so many little things that showed attention to detail: sound machines in every room, jewelry bowls on nightstands, good quality cosmetics, detergent for the washing machine, etc. The house has 3 bedrooms: all the linens were clean and neat. The one thing to keep in mind is that the third bedroom was smaller and had less space than the other two with no furniture - this would be perfect for a family with kids but was not ideal for 3 friends traveling since not all the bedrooms were exactly equitable. Overall, we had an amazing experience - it was such a pleasure to stay there.

I wrote this while on GCI! Enjoy! The Winds changed without a word. The Wind changed and so did the temperature down seven degrees. It had been so quiet. It had taken a little time to get used to the silence once we arrived on the island. Eventually the silence was replaced by a constant easterly wind as the September temperature reminded me that summer here was wanning. Fall begins today, right on que and even though I felt in isolation I did not feel alone, as the winds, for sure, were making sounds like peoples chatter and for a moment I had to turn my head and listen to make sense of the mystery and the wonder I've experienced through mother nature. LOVED this place!! Clean, that’s a dealbreaker, and it was clean! Situated on 8 acres, peaceful, dog-friendly, cozy, just felt like home. Loved the bottle of wine and chocolates, that’s the way to a girls heart, after a clean place ofc. There were tissues in the bathroom, stocked kitchen, w &d, great lighting. There was this quilt and rug in the master bedroom that looked like I was sleeping at grandmas house. We had to drive everywhere, as this was not a walking rental, but totally worth it. Felt like the heart of Acadia. You have to drive to all the trails anyway. Would totally stay here again.

We’ve been coming to MDI for over 40 years, and have stayed in some very nice homes and inns. This may now be the top of our list. Peter was an exceptional host, responding within minutes to any questions we had. The house looks deceptively small from the outside, but it is very nicely laid out and surprisingly spacious throughout. Living room and master bedroom very spacious, with lots of closet and drawer space. The king-size bed is very, very comfortable. In fact everything seems designed for the comfort and ease of guests. Record player with Bluetooth speakers to input your own music work well. TV the same. We loved sitting out on the screened porch (with windows closed - this was May!) And I was very pleased and surprised to have yoga mats available to use. Peter thinks of everything! Our son joined us the 4 nights we stayed. It was the perfect setup for him with the separate cabin behind the house. He had everything he needed. We would love to come back again!

What a wonderful experience! Rebecca was an absolutely outstanding host, always quick to respond and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. My family and I had such a peaceful stay. The home and location were incredibly tranquil, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The house and property were absolutely beautiful, and we loved sipping our morning coffee on the amazing balconies with the breathtaking views. There is so much space, and every room in the house is well thought out, functional, and cozy. The pool is even better than we hoped, so big and clean and in immaculate condition. We spent most of our time swimming and relaxing by the pool. We also enjoyed playing pool and having so many rooms to gather in with the comfort of plenty of new comfy furniture. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind for a vacation away from all the noise and chaos of daily life. Every single area was as described in the listing and better. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!

Adorable cottage, newly renovated. Perfect for two with an open space loft for one more. Kitchen is well stocked right down to the coffee. A good location if visiting Fort Knox, Mt. Barrie and not too far from Bar Harbor if that is on your list. Great stay, highly recommend. Beautiful view and private.

My return visit to the Boathouse was even lovelier than I hoped it would be. The location can't be matched by anything else I've seen. I enjoyed a September visit with my dog and was lucky to have pristine weather. I lived a very simple and healthy outdoors life and came home the better for it. The Boathouse is true to its description: it is simple and rustic and uncomplicated but well-equipped, and is perfect for one-and-dog, or for two people. A little coming-and-going from the neighboring houses meant that I didn't feel isolated. Margaret is truly an exceptional and friendly host who communicates promptly and clearly. I almost hesitate to share "my" Boathouse location with too many of my back-home friends because it feels so intimate and special. I already want to be back there. I offer my deep thanks to Margaret and to the place that I could - briefly - call home.

We got a very rainy week in Maine but still enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable and well stocked house, views, decks and incredible garden. Beautiful restaurants, bookstores and wine and antique shops near by. Hope to return to very soon.

I recently stayed with my family at this incredible Airbnb that exceeded all my expectations. This property offered a hot tub, a pool table, and a level of privacy and tranquility that made for a truly relaxing getaway. One of the highlights of our stay was being able to watch the northern lights from the hot tub – it was absolutely magical. We spent a week in Acadia, and the location was perfect, just 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor or the nearest town. The hosts were very responsive, and the place was fantastic for families, being both kid and pet friendly. It was a week filled with unforgettable moments, and I can't recommend this place enough!

The location was perfect - you didn’t need your car to get around. We were right at the main square or park with lots of interesting shops and restaurants close by. We were 10 minutes from Acadia National Park. Highly recommend spending the extra $6 to drive up Cadillac Mountain. The unit was well appointed, clean, and had games for the kids to play. I did’t care for the shower but I am not used to a claw-foot tub shower. Overall really enjoyed our stay!

Amazing place to stay if looking to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia! Lots to do around. Place was as described and pictured. A lot of space! Beautiful views from the balcony. Wish we stayed longer. When we come back, will definitely stay again!

A great place to stay in such a great area. Feels so in the middle of nowhere but in a good way. The stars are beautiful at night, the house was gorgeous, and they have plenty of games to play since there is no TV. But we didn’t miss the TV at all! Whoever sleeps upstairs will be forced to wake up with the sun because of the lack of curtains but also not a bad problem to have :) And the bathroom floors are heated, which is such a nice amenity!

We stayed at the Calm Breezes cabin with our 7 month old and two labradoodles. It was perfect for our trip to Acadia, comfortable, quaint, clean and so peaceful /beautiful setting. The town also has amazing restaurants - just a few minutes down the road. Would definitely come back / recommend to anyone visiting Acadia!

We were delighted to stay at the Doll's House for our Acadia adventures. The cottage was easy to find on the quiet side of the island. The upstairs had ample room to spread out, featuring a comfortable reading chair and a king-size bed. The kitchen was compact but had everything and more that we needed to prepare meals. Having access to a huge washer and dryer was extremely helpful, as were the pamphlets and large maps. The glass doors from the deck and entrance let in a lot of light and let us enjoy our time between hiking and sightseeing. We are counting on returning some day to enjoy the deck, since we couldn't with the rainy weather we had. Thanks Alan!

Bendigo and Jenni were great hosts from the start. They communicated before we arrived and checked in with us regularly throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Their house is beautiful and looks just like the photos. Every room was meticulously clean and so lovely. The location is very private and peaceful. After a day of hiking and sightseeing it felt like coming home each evening. We would definitely book again with Bendigo and Jenni on our future trips to MDI.

Assuming you read through the listing and know what to expect the place is exactly as described! Very unique property! Although the price is a bit steep for little to no amenities, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Very relaxing place. Forces you to slow down, talk to your partner or read a book. The hot water in the outdoor shower was more than sufficient even with temps in the 30/40s. Comfortable bed and warm blankets. Lots of deer and wild turkey sightings. About 30 mins drive to most Acadia attractions. Perfect place for a step up from camping!
