Places to stay in Santa Cruz

Places to stay in Santa Cruz
March 15, 29 - April 1st now open. There has been a lot of concern about the Covid-19 virus. We are now sterilizing the hard surfaces in our listings. We are quite isolated here so your exposure risks are much lower than in a city. If you have been exposed to it, please don't make a reservation. We have been listing the Mushroom Dome Cabin with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings - in the world. We have had over 5,000 guests from over 50 countries.
As we are no longer allowed by Santa Cruz county to rent the Mushroom Dome Cabin, we are now listing the LAND of Paradise Suite, a room in our unique home. (LAND: Love And Nature Divine) Make a reservation for the Suite, you will also have unlimited access to the Mushroom Dome.We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds on our deck, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; - ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 6-11 months in advance. We have another listing: the Hummingbird Haven. It usually has more availability. You can find it here: airbnb.com/rooms/6562632 (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic retreat space has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable meditation and/or sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. In the LAND of Paradise Suite, is a double bed as well as a fold out bed, a small fridge, an electric tea kettle, teas, and coffee. Let me know if you want to cook meals here and I'll tell you how. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. On the main floor of the Meditation Mushroom retreat (a Pentagon) is the couch a pull-out table and 2 chairs. We provide a small refrigerator, a Hot Air Popcorn Popper (and the kernels), French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, a wine opener, dishes - and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If you stay here for more than 1 night, you may need to change the pee bucket. We will do it for you if you want, but we do need you to pay attention to the pee level so it doesn't overflow! If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; - ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends: Friday to Sunday. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M. L. King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, New Leaf (a very large natural food store), restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre Forest Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; - ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 300 - 600 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 130 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking or vaping in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 8 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • Kitty gave clear directions on how to get to the cabin and even personally met us at the driveway so we could get to know our hostess which was so nice. We were a little put off by the idea of a compostable toilet but after experiencing one and how clean and easy it seemed to maintain we're looking into replacing our standard toilet for a compostable one as well! Her cat milo was so friendly, although I'm allergic I couldn't help but show some love...and take some claritin! The landscaping was breathtaking throughout. Can't wait to come back with a book or two to read and enjoy in the garden. Kitty has a rulebook put together which some may find daunting...but if you read through the rules are pretty common sense. We loved her sense of humor and are looking forward to booking again soon.

  • This was by far one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever encountered. Such a serene and beautiful environment. Kitty and Michael are incredible hosts and made us feel extremely welcome.

  • Even if you expect it to be perfect, Kitty & Michael will give your time a chance to expand your concept of perfection

    Paul2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael are gracious, kind-hearted super hosts. You will fall in love with the Mushroom Dome; my two friends and I felt at-home very quickly. The location is beautiful, the hosts are absolutely lovely, and the place itself is breathtaking. The bed upstairs is super comfortable and the shower is pleasant as well, with water that warms up right away. The Mushroom Dome is incredibly charming, and hearing about it’s history from Kitty adds another element of awe to your experience. This was my friends’ and I first AriBnB experience, and we feel so lucky to have chosen such a perfect place. None of us stumbled across any issues with our stay, and our entire trip was smooth and enjoyable. If you find dates that work for you, I urge you to book, I can’t imagine anyone regretting this stay!

    Julia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael were great hosts! The property is beautiful and it was a treat to see all the humming birds. There are also many places to eat in the town near by. Overall it was a great weekend getaway.

Built on giant Douglas Fir trees, our treehouse is located on Lago Lomita Vineyards with a view of the entire Monterey Bay. The ladder/staircase leads to a 400 sq. ft. platform with a queen bed, electricity/WiFi in a tent! There is a full bath on the bottom floor of the main house, immediately inside the French Doors. See pics! Half hour to San Jose, 15 miles to the Capitola beach, and an hour from SFO or Monterey. Also, check out our 5 star yurt listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19876384
Both our treehouse and yurt listings are unique experiences. They both are adjacent to the Tierra Madre Vineyard Block and have awesome views of the entire Monterey Bay/Pacific Ocean. We are located on 44 acres high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains but close to all the major beaches and the Silicon Valley.
  • Lovely location, gorgeous views, comfortable accommodations and a super unique experience. Book this if you want to have a really memorable time!

  • Robin was awesome. Welcoming, hospitable, and just a great person. The view and treehouse were outstanding. The stay includes a very clean shower with towels, body wash, shampoo/conditioner. She made awesome muffins that were awesome to have in the morning as well as having A LOT of drinking water. We stopped at the Summit store just down the hill (short drive) and brought back food to eat with the view. The treehouse had full electricity and a heater. 10/10 highly recommend, great memory.

  • The treehouse was absolutely magical. On the night we arrived, it rained a little bit but we really enjoyed listening to the rain drops on the tent. It was amazing waking up to the view of the coast. Robin and Mark were awesome hosts! They even gave us a tour of their vineyard.

    Roland2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, or a week long getaway. You overlook the water and the path to the beach is a quick 3 minute walk down. The view is unbelievable. You hang out on the cliff, engulfed by the glorious beauty of the forever pounding ocean. Leave your white noise machines at home. The melodic drum of the waves crashing is perfect for bed time as well as meditating on the glorious, sunsoaked deck. Seashells abound in the early morning. The tides bring in some especially fantastic jewels across the coastline.

    Aaron2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Sunset Cottage is the perfect place to unwind and relax on the beach. Gorgeous view and a cozy, quaint space to decompress away from it all! Thanks again Nonie!

    Matthew2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • LOVE this place! The location and view are unbeatable. The studio is steps from the ocean, cozy, nice TV, and lots of blankets to keep warm. We hope to be back soon!

    Diana2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • WOW. If you're thinking the place is a little out of your price range, ask yourself what does a beautiful unique location on the beach mean to you. Then ask yourself, again, about all the times you might have tried to save a little. This is NOT one of those times!! The breathtaking views, comfy amenities and delicious, refreshing sounds and feel of rolling ocean waves make it all worthwhile. Indulge. Enjoy. You're worth it. You never know what you're missing, but this place is not to be missed. Monie's hospitality tops it all off with a healthy dose of comfort and accommodation.

    Candace2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little beach cabin! The cabin is set closer to the beach than most. Definitely a plus! It's tucked into the hillside and because of its position among some bonsai-like shrubbery, it turned out to be very private. The view and sunsets are spectacular! The cozy beach motif of the inside is well balanced with a large panoramic window sitting space and the cabin is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, condiments, coffee, and teas - all the basics. The nights are silent, nothing but the sounds of the waves to fall asleep to. Truly paradise.

    Blaine2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot, great host! I would love to come back.

    Louis2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best ocean view cottage I have stayed in. Nonie's beautiful nook is a dream come true. Outside patio with BBQ grill adds a special flavor to this place. Her cottage has been thoughtfully decorated with sea shells. Beach access is super easy and the whole unit has a lot of privacy. Simply loved it. Couldn't have found a more romantic place to celebrate our first anniversary.

  • The heater is a bit loud but keeps you warm. Bring your own movies if you wanna any as there is only a small selection. Other than that it’s a great and wonderful space. Very quiet and private. Neighbors don’t disturb you at all they keep to themselves. Only thing is at night it’s really hard to see the road to turn onto where the house is located so drive pretty slow

    Abel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable A-frame cabin in a gorgeous forest setting. The back deck was a lovely place to take in the scenery with trees all around and a stream below. Very private and peaceful. The space was cozy but comfortably slept 4 of us, with 2 in the queen bed loft upstairs and 1 on the single day bed and the other on the futon couch (both in the main living room). Cynthia was very responsive with any questions we had during a stay. I would absolutely come back!

    Chelsea2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very comfortable and the back yard view is spectacular.

    Patricia2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous area! Just outside of Santa Cruz, very quiet, beautiful atmosphere. Definitely stay here if you're visiting the general area!

    William2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, quiet A-frame cottage in the redwoods right next to a lovely creek. It is a great place for a peaceful retreat. Cynthia is a great host and very responsive. Excellent hiking very close by at Henry Cowell State Park (huge redwood trees!) and Quail Hollow.

    Cynthia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Cynthia's place. It was in a great location and had an amazing living room view into the trees. Cynthia was accessible and checked in with us, and gave great recommendations for things to do in the area. It was a great relaxing stay and would do it again!

  • This place is the perfect getaway for couples or solo travelers. The outdoor patio, fireplace and bathroom were the highlights of our stay. Highly recommend for anyone interested in a glamping experience.

    Morgan2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie’s place was one of a kind. It was a great way to get into glamping since the place was very unique. The bed was extremely comfortable and the outdoor bathroom set up alone was already enough for us to book the place asap. I would definitely do it again however would take a car with higher clearance to get up a small steep hill

    Gian2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The bnb is as listed, Stephanie was great about making sure I could find the place. The bath house is just lovely and honestly the reason I booked the bnb. As long as you’re prepared to have basic amenities, it’s an absolutely lovely location in the redwoods where you can escape everyday life.

    Marisa2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The outdoor bathhouse is absolutely magical!! I would stay here again just for the bath house. Stephanie also offered great recommendations on local food and was responsive and quick!

    Luna2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie’s place was good. We got our privacy. The shower was nice. Would stay here again.

    Heather2020-02-06T00:00:00Z

    Jason2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool spot to stay in. I fell in love with the pictures because of the natural beauty of the area. I enjoyed my stay there. I will say the bathroom is not super convenient, but I knew that going in and did not mind at all, but if you’re someone who likes the comfort of the indoors it may not be for you. The location is a bit tricky, but if you keep your eyes peeled it’s fine. I overall really liked it and thought it was a fun and unique place to stay in.

  • There’s definitely a bit of Storybook to Patricia’s place. From the string of lights guiding you down the driveway to the persistent touches of handmade quality. The property is remote without being too far and makes the most of mountain sunrises.

    Travis2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The views were absolutely GORGEOUS, The hot tub and Sauna were extremely relaxing. Patricia was so sweet. Everything was perfect!

    Taylor2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • One of my best experiences with Airbnb. Such a cozy place. Much recommended.

    Michal2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome! The setting is beautiful and quiet, far away from any highway sounds. It was a really nice place touchdown after hiking in the Big Basin area or Santa Cruz. And the hot tub was a treat! Ws also got to use the sauna because Patricia built a fire for us( we didn't know how). It felt amaaaazing after feeling chilled from the weather. Pat was such a great host. She made us feel like this was our home away from home. She had some great recommendations on local places to eat , including a place not too far away called Nonno's , where they make delish pizza. It does take about at least 15- 20 mins to get to any bigger town with the windy mountain roads , but we knew that going into it. And, that makes this place special. I would highly reccomend it.

    Kinsey2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Patricia’s place was even better than the pictures. She is a wonderful person who made us feel right at home, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The sauna was amazing and the hot tub under the stars was a magical experience. Highly recommended!

    Heidi2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

    Allison2020-02-08T00:00:00Z

A magical Redwood Treehouse located it the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. There is a live tree growing right through the main living area and another in the bathroom! It is simply incredible. It was built by my friend, Randy, a stained glass artist. Everyone who sees it are delighted by it. Please read entire description before making a reservation request. It has a delicious high-bed, a kitchen with a small stove and refrigerator, and typical cooking tools. There is a full bathroom with shower and toilet of course. There is now a hot-tub at about 103 degrees ready for your soak before bed or a morning treat. The Treehouse is a short walk of a few hundred yards (about four minutes) through the beautiful woods from the parking area. There is a gas stove for heating. There is a TV and DVD player with many movies to choose from. For travelers this is the best of both worlds. A wonderful treehouse nestled in the redwood forest, a short distance to HWY 1(Pacific Coast HWY) the main vein to Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Capitola and Santa Cruz and the HWY 101 Corridor. People come from all over the world to experience the Pacific Coast specifically the Monterey Bay area. It is an area rich in history. Here you will find world class art, music, cuisine, golf, surfing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, sunbathing, whale watching, birding, fishing, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and so much more. You can spend the day engaged in a variety of activities, physical and/or cultural. However you spend your day you can return home to a mountain treehouse and quiet. The weather here is excellent. It is located in a micro climate called a ‘banana belt’. Though the beach is only 25 minutes away we are often in the sun when our neighbors in the valley and on the coast are in the fog. Winters are mild we average 25” of rainfall a year. Summers can be warm but delightful. The fog rolling in at night is nature’s air conditioner and everything cools down. The weather is nearly perfect. Fog burns off early enough to make the beaches comfortable all day. The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to Sequoia Sempervirens commonly known as a Redwood Tree. • Unique. Beautiful and special, like something out of a story. Not like any vacation house we've ever stayed in.

    Greta2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stay. Here. Make it a point to spend 2 or 3 days in this remarkable space. The treehouse is amazing, the hospitality is warm, and the opportunity to literally "get away from it all" is priceless. I knew it would be cool. I mean, c'mon, it's a TREEHOUSE. What I didn't know was how a weekend away from the kids could reignite my joyfulness.

    Sara2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous, magical night in the redwoods. Bring a book and someone you love.

    Jeff2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely treehouse with plenty of space and amenities to make your stay comfortable. Beautiful short hike to reach the treehouse. Only downside was that it was nosier than we expected with neighboring homes running saws, leaf blowers and even target practice... we could see a road and other homes so while it was private it was not isolated.

    Liqa2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! A restorative weekend with girlfriends. Kitchen has great supplies for cooking and Mary Jane is very hospitable.

This cool and comfortable private space is a great spot to stay while visiting Santa Cruz. Close to everything yet private with its own private entrance and in a quiet setting with an outdoor sitting area. The neighborhood is old Santa Cruz and close to everything. Don’t forget the comfortable king bed! The best deal in Santa Cruz! Make sure to read INPORTANT NOTE!
The unit has its own entrance. Very private with an outdoor garden sitting area. The bed is a cal king with a comfy gel top and the sheets are 100% cotton sateen. There is an air mattress available for a third person. The main room is laminate flooring with area carpets. There is a kitchen and bathroom with Saltillo tile floors. The kitchen has a toaster oven, microwave, refrigerator and coffee machine. No stove. Coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided along wth filtered water. I also have breakfast items and various snacks. There is a flat screen tv with a fire stick. I have been unable to lock it for purchases so I ask you to PLEASE NOT BUY MOVIES ON MY ACCOUNT. There will be a $25 charge for any movie billed to my account. Sorry, but there is a wide selection of free movies and programs for you to watch. There is also wifi. Shampoo and conditioner, bath soap and a hairdryer are included. An iron and ironing board are available on request. The linens are freshly laundered after each guest. For those who want to do laundry, there is a laundromat at the end of the block.
My house is located in the BEST location. The neighborhood is centrally located. Its a short walk downtown or to west cliff drive. Westside Santa Cruz is home to many restaurants, coffee houses, bakery's and brewery's. It's a great location if you want to go to the university, the beach or downtown where you can find even more restaurants and bars! It's a great place for walkers because everything is relatively close. It's also good for bikers with bike rentals close by and some of the best biking trails in the area such a Wilder Ranch not far away. There is also public transportation at the end of the street.
  • Very clean. Very convenient to downtown and beaches. Would definitely stay again.

    David2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a short but sweet stay at Toni's place. The location is easy to find and Toni left us clear guide ahead of time. We loved the space and found it has all the amenities we need. We didn't get to meet Toni but her cookies were waiting for us at check-in. Will return again the next time we're in Santa Cruz.

    Shaza2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Toni was very helpful, especially considering she was recovering from hip surgery. Her cozy space captures the essence that is Santa Cruz.

    Nick2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Toni was very attentive to ensure we had everything we needed for our two day stay. The apartment was well located, and we had great access to downtown Santa Cruz, the wharf, and the West Cliff Drive.

    Peter2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • My wife & I had reservations at Shadowbrook to celebrate our 1-year Anniversary, and just needed a comfortable, private place to stay for a night, so that we could make the most of our trip out of town. Toni's place was the perfect fit for us! The room felt very private, even though it was attached to the house, and the gel-top mattress made for a soft bed. The neighborhood is quiet & safe, and we enjoyed a 20-minute round trip walk to Coffeetopia in the morning. We appreciated that she included a lot of detail in the room description, gave clear instructions for checking in, and communicated well with us throughout the entire experience. Thank you so much!

    Brian & Shelly2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Toni was the perfect hostess. She’s very communicative and even left out cookies for us. The location is very close to everything.

    Alejandra2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Booked late because of a power outage at my home. Toni responded very quickly and graciously met me to show me in. Comfy bed, cookies & coffee provided. It’s very close to restaurants and West Cliff Drive.

    Cynthia2020-02-12T00:00:00Z

Sweet and charming space for one or two, in the heart of Live Oak, Santa Cruz. Our home is close to beaches and upper harbor (1.3 miles) and 10 minutes by car to SC Beach Boardwalk and Capitola by the Sea. Comfy double-sized vintage iron bed, a small separate bathroom and a small but charming outdoor area! This is a totally self-contained space with a private entrance!
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY SO THERE ARE NO SURPRISES! Approximately 240 square feet and can house one or two guests. It has a *small* separate bathroom with toilet, stall shower and a toilet tank sink. There are pictures of the toilet tank sink in our listing photos and we recommend that you check them out if you have never seen one before! PLEASE NOTE: The bed is a Full-sized vintage iron bed with iron headboard and footboard. This is noted on the original listing page. Full size mattresses are approximately 52 x 74 inches so it can accommodate guests a little over 6 feet tall. Taller guests should consider this when booking! PLEASE ALSO NOTE! We have replaced the old on-demand water heater with a new, dedicated on-demand water heater! No more "hot/cold" showers! Perfect temp and pressure for your enjoyment! Full kitchenette!
Our home is in a neighborhood that has children, dogs/cats and chickens. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat and 3 chickens ourselves - so it is a bit like the country in our back yard. Animal noise is there but not intrusive. Guests are welcome to text us if there are any noise disturbances that we can attend to.
  • Maria's place was a dreamy place to stay for a short trip to Santa Cruz! Thank you!

    Chisa2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The studio/cottage is very sweet and had everything we needed. We especially appreciated being able to prepare meals there.

    Ellen2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Maria was incredibly responsive. For example, I texted her at midnight the day before our stay asking if we could change our check-in time. She responded immediately and was very accommodating. We loved meeting the hens she lived with, they are very sweet and beautiful. The casita is a guesthouse in the back yard, which is basically a one room studio, but everything is very well organized and it feels like plenty of space. We had a wonderful time and would return if we came back to Santa Cruz.

    Andrew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This little casita is a jewel. The space is small but perfect for one person. I stayed a week this time for a solo writing retreat and the privacy and quiet were just what I needed to work. I love the old Wedgewood stove and could cook all of my meals with food I brought myself. That plus the discount for the week’s booking made it possible to give myself the gift of solitude, with the ocean nearby for evening walks at the end of the working day. Many thanks to Maria and Geoff for keeping this tiny space in good working order, clean and bright!

    Cari2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The guest house was very cozy and comfortable. Easy access to lots of fun Santa Cruz attractions and Maria is very welcoming!

    Hannah2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect stay and location near the Santa Cruz Harbor. The street is residential and felt very safe. I'd stay here again in a heart beat.

    Ria2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Casita has many lovely touches. We usually visit SC in the winter and I was relieved to find this place warm and cozy unlike some of the other places we've stayed. Maria is an excellent host and we will definitely return.

    Kristine And John Southern2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Maria’s casita is a true escape. Her lovely vintage decor and secluded location makes your feel like you’re in a private getaway! Maria truly goes out of her way to provide lovely touches throughout the house so you are not in need of anything. The kitchen and bathroom are stocked with everything you could want! I cannot wait to go back to the casita!

Conveniently located in a sunny and peaceful midtown residential neighborhood an easy walk to Seabright restaurants*** , beaches, and the harbor; close to downtown. Pretty and comfortable with wood floors, a patio for dining, a great kitchen with new appliances, direct TV + Roku. Great for friends and families--can accommodate 6 if 1 person takes loft bed.
A block away from Midtown shops and restaurants. Easy walk to downtown and to Seabright Beach. Comfortable house with brand new mattresses on beds and additional memory foam topper for sofa bed.
The Seabright Neighborhood, known for its sea breezes and sunshine, is considered one of the more desirable locations in Santa Cruz as it is close to everything while being, at the same time, quiet, friendly, and residential. Soquel, its main Midtown avenue, with the addition of several very good restaurants and night spots, is fast becoming a local upscale trend setter. Grocery shopping is a treat with two popular well-stocked, local groceries within easy walking distance--the Staff of Life Natural Foods and Shopper's Corner (two of Santa Cruz' favorites)--as well as a Whole Foods a block away. A great way to start the day is a walk west on Soquel to The Buttery for pastries and coffee on their patio or straight down Seabright toward the ocean to Linda's Seabreeze Cafe, recently voted #1 in Santa Cruz by Trip Advisor.
  • Wonderful two bedroom place

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This house is an absolute dream. Our only regret is that we didn’t book it for a week! We didn’t want to leave it’s so beautiful and cozy with everything you could ever need. We can’t wait to return. The location is amazing!

    Rachael2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Sue’s place is a beautiful little big place. She keeps it very clean. Gets a little cold at night but not to worry she keeps so many blankets to keep her hosts covered. I loved how she had everything, literally even down to different types of tea’s in a jar. She gave me great expectations for the next time I use Airbnb. I had an amazing stay for a first timer.

Get back in touch with nature in a farmhouse-style property next to abundant woodlands and hiking trails. It's an airy, skylit space with honey-colored hardwood floors and a well-equipped kitchen. Bathe in a claw-foot tub and relax on a wooden porch. Please note that this house shares the property with the owners who live in the main house, and an Airstream which also hosts guests.
This is our guest house located on the same property as our home (about 50 feet away). We also have an Airstream that friends and family stay in which is located on the property (also located about 50-100 feet away). If you're looking to get out of the city and be surrounded by nature, then look no further! There is wildlife all around, including deer, owls, hawks, and more! The home features all new furniture that has been carefully designed for relaxation and comfort. You can cook a delicious meal, enjoy a glass of wine in the gorgeous claw foot tub, and de-stress away from it all.
The house is in the redwood area of Santa Cruz. Drive to downtown and the beach in a few minutes. It's close to the historic Mystery Spot, and is across the street from DeLaveaga Park with its great hiking trails.
  • This place is in perfect location. The hosts are great. All you need for cooking is in the kitchen. Bed is amazing as well as the back yard. Beautiful.

  • My partner is an architect and has very high standards. He loved staying here and has plans plans to make this his home away from home every time we are in Santa Cruz. The special touches showed up everywhere, from a top notch Jenn Air gas stove, to the exquisite claw foot bathtub. I booked the cottage based on the pics but the actual experience was even better! A big thank you to our hosts Kris and Shane. An absolutely wonderful stay!

    JoAnne2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot for a weekend getaway. Relaxing and super cozy. We highly recommend.

    Jeff2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here!! The fireplace was wonderful and the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. We used the grill all three nights and met who I assume was Buttercup while grilling. 😁. The house felt very spacious while also being cozy. The location is great; it's a little bit out of town but only by a few minutes.

    Frances2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

Very comfy bed, all your essentials, amazing bathroom with a heated floor and shower! She even left some chocolates and a few local beers for me in the fridge. I’d definitely stay again. Thanks, Ellen!

  • This was the ideal location for us! Loved the easier-than-easy beach access, super cute neighborhood, insanely extensive climbing gym... the room is small but if you’re like us and spending your days outside in Santa Cruz, this is a great launching pad! Note the shared bathroom — it’s not a situation for everyone, but for us was fine, since Ellen was great at letting us know when we could expect her to hop in the shower so we could easily coordinate.

Close to everything we wanted to see and do. We didn't travel more than 10 mins to the beach or to downtown. I would stay here again.

  • This place is so cute and cozy. It's tucked away in the hills of Santa Cruz, close to everything, and just a perfect location altogether. She let me know that it was small, but really, bigger than a hotel room with a well-stocked kitchen and a beautiful patio area. Much better value than a hotel, clean, and had everything my family could want for a weekend getaway. I would recommend, and I would stay there again.

    Jeanne2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

Our cottage is in (we think!) the perfect location to enjoy all that Santa Cruz has to offer - we're only blocks from downtown, the boardwalk, the wharf, and Cowell's beach. You can walk to the beach for coffee and breakfast at the Picnic Basket in the morning, bask in the sun on the deck in the cottage in the afternoon, and then walk downtown for dinner at night. Also, the walking path and pontoon path in Neary Lagoon is a hidden treasure, with all sorts of beautiful wildlife.
  • Everything about the cottage was so nice - high quality new appliances in the kitchen area, nice furniture, and a really comfortable bed. The location is ideal - walking distance from pacific ave and the boardwalk. Overall excellent.

  • Super comfortable spot that was perfect for a multi night stay — we made dinner for ourselves each night and enjoyed relaxing on the patio in the mornings. Great hospitality from a receptive host, I would definitely recommend this place

  • Great amenities, great location, and the hot tub was awesome! Would definitely stay in this airbnb again.

  • The check in for this space is super easy and Cynthia is very easy to communicate with - she answers quickly and efficiently. I needed somewhere to stay after I moved out of my apartment before my flight out of CA and this was perfect. Enough space that I wasn’t cramped but not too much, and it was spotless. On 7th this space was perfectly located for all of the errands I needed to run and close to 1 for the airport run. The location allowed me to avoid most all traffic. Everything you need is in the space and it’s a nice oasis with the gate and patio - feels like home!

    Vada2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Feels like home the minute you walk in! Communication was super fast, hot tub was warm and clean and the gift basket was absolutely adorable. Will stay again for sure in the future!

  • Very modern yet welcoming spot to stay in Santa Cruz. Not super close to the beach but situated in between any activity you might want to do. Terry's place is connected to the suite however, there is a private entrance and she is a very quiet neighbor. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

    Jessica2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Not much to say other than FANTASTIC. This airbnb was hands down better than the 4* hotel we'd stayed at in San Fransisco. Bathroom is a BIG PLUS. We'll try to book it again next time we're in Santa Cruz Steven and Kevin

  • Great room

    Dustin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • For a small attached room, this is about as good as AirBnB gets. Can’t give a higher recommendation!

    John2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Terry's Zen Retreat is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed, and I've stayed in many, many kinds of accommodations. The fixtures and furnishings are absolutely top of the line, so the place feels like a treat. The space was comfortable and spotlessly clean. All the amenities and extras were so thoughtful. I changed some of my plans for Santa Cruz because it was indulgent and wonderful to just stay in and relax in the room. I so highly recommend this place. I really hope I get to return soon.

  • Easily accessible neighborhood. Modern design with many thoughtful details. Water fountain, new and clean floors, countertops and furniture. Be aware there are a lot of rules that need to be followed on your stay. Overall nice little hidden getaway.

  • The Bungalow is the perfect place to spend a sunny weekend in Santa Cruz. We had an amazing time and really appreciated all the little touches in the space. The patio area was definitely a treat. Highly recommend. Thank you!

  • Very cute space, clean, had everything we needed for a great stay.

    katherine2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara's bungalow was perfect for the two of us. It was spotless. The bed was super-comfortable. Barbara provided very soft sheets and luxuriously soft towels. The kitchen has everything you would ever need. The unit is very quiet, and has beautiful furnishings with such an artistic touch. It is centrally located and close to the beach, hiking, grocery stores and much more. It has a private patio with lovely landscaping. She also had fresh fruit, snacks, oatmeal, coffee and tea for us when we arrived! What a nice touch! Barbara responded immediately to any question I had. We give this property our absolute highest recommendation!!! Thank you, Barbara for such a nice stay!!!

    Annette2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Full disclosure, our trip was taken over by falling ill the day of arrival and utilizing the space for recovery for the remainder of our stay. To that end, this review reflects our unexpected needs for recovery during our stay. Barbara was extremely communicative in every way. She checked in for our arrival time to best provide us with a convenient means of unloading via temporary use of the driveway. As a note, updates on your estimated arrival time will be appreciated. There was a bit of a mix up on payment of the $98 tax in cash upon arrival so be sure to place the cash in the envelope and the envelope into the black mailbox outside the bungalow door immediately upon arrival. Two individual space heaters were provided and much appreciated for our recovery. One is a radiator space heater, the other is a fan space heater. We found the fan space heater more effective and continuously moved it around with us in the unit. We always carry an extension cord and power strip with us and made good use of it to extend the reach of the heater. The unit had nearly everything we needed and Barbara quickly accommodated with anything else. We ended up requesting the following: new dish sponge, strainer, peeler, chopping knife, additional toilet paper, tissue box, and replacement garbage bags. A small pot and several pans are provided. Though I’m sure Barbara would have provided one had we asked, we brought our own large pot to make a big batch of soup. About halfway through our stay, Barbara offered to provide a fresh set of towels which we gladly accepted. A couple things to note for future guests: Ants do sometimes enter the unit. Traps are placed outside but just something to keep in mind. Wi-Fi hardly works in the bedroom so anticipate using it more in the other parts of the unit. The fire alarm will go off when cooking since there is no stove hood in the unit. To alleviate this, we would keep doors and windows open while one of us would fan the fire alarm while cooking. Also there is no dish drying rack which would be helpful if you plan to do a lot of cooking and dish washing but I’m sure one would have been provided if requested. Overall our stay was pleasant. We very much enjoyed the back patio when the sun was shining on it. Parking wasn’t a problem and the proximity to various attractions and necessities is phenomenal.

  • Only stayed for a quick evening but Kerstin was a lovely thoughtful communicative host and the room/space/garden/location was beautiful and perfect for my quick stay. Highly recommend!

    Alison2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kerstin’s beach cottage was incredibly clean and thoughtfully designed. The bed was ultra comfortable (on the firmer side, which I loved) and many little touches (pour over coffee, night light) won us over even more. We didn’t get a chance to meet her but her communication and the self check-in process made everything easy as the ocean’s breeze. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in SC! Thanks again!

    Dan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice space with everything you could need (space in closet and drawers, electric kettle, basic toiletries, TV, etc.)! Kerstin spotted us wandering slowly up the driveway and directed us toward the room. It is a bit tricky to find—glad the sun hadn’t set yet!—but she does a good job of describing the location in her check-in instructions.

  • This is about as close to the beach and the boardwalk as you can get, while still being quiet, calm, and safe. The place itself is stylish and homey, and we loved all the personal and thoughtful touches. Kendall was responsive and easy to communicate with.

    Kevin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kendall is such a great host! The Wave House is a cute and cozy loft property that is perfect for any beach lover. We were greeted personally by Kendall and shown all of the features of the house. Everything was so well decorated and sparkling clean! The bed was so comfy and the whole space has such a warm feel to it. We made use of the kitchen for breakfasts and having a kettle was a nice touch. The plates and cups are beach themed with shells and starfish which add to the feel of staying at the Wave House. Being walking distance to the Boardwalk was exactly what we were looking for. Of course there are other places to stay near the Boardwalk but nothing we could find offered as much as this cozy place. We hope to be Kendall's guests again!

    Damian2020-02-15T00:00:00Z

A redwood-floored, sun-filled, shuttered bedroom with arched windows and gabled ceiling in a unique 1860s home in Santa Cruz. My 'Carpenter Gothic' home is one of the earliest houses built by settlers. Both bedroom and adjacent bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin) are fully remodelled and immaculately clean on the second floor of my home. The guest room is private, quiet, and has its own entrance staircase. It offers panoramic views of the Monterey Bay in one of Santa Cruz's oldest, safest, quietest neighborhoods. Walking distance to downtown through other historic areas. 1/2 acre of mature gardens and an 'orchidarium' surround this unique house on the hill. The bus line to UCSC has a stop 3 minutes' walk away; the main terminus is a 15" walk - all downhill! Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Mission; Mission Plaza park; historic downtown replete with Victorian homes; a large variety of coffee shops and restaurants. The bus goes straight up to UCSC campus; the bike ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and granny gears! Pogonip open space/UCSC campus is also walking accessible. Please read/view all details regarding beds and breakfast offerings thoroughly.
The West side of Santa Cruz is an extension, uphill, from the historic Mission Plaza. It is on of the original 'neighbourhoods' in Santa Cruz with many mid-late 1800s homes providing spectacular panoramic views of Monterey Bay. My house was an original 'settler' homestead, built in the 1860s in one of the finest locations then and now.
  • Caroline's is a historic, cheerful, well loved, peaceful home. We enjoyed sharing breakfast and learning about the area, eating her amazing homemade jam with our continental breakfast, and touring her lovely gardens She was clear, helpful and our room was light filled and comfortable with a view of the ocean in the distance. We would be happy to return!

  • Caroline is a wonderfully friendly host and shares lots of valuable recommendations. Her beautiful house is perfectly located to walk downtown or to grab an Uber bike and easily get to other parts of the city. If you can do without a kitchen, like waking up to beautiful sunrises with a view of the ocean in a very quiet yet centrally located place, Caroline’s is the perfect place for you. I stayed for almost a month and would return again in a heartbeat to stay in a place that felt like a home away from home. Thank you!

    Muriel2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Caroline’s over new year’s eve was delightful, sweet and everything I hoped for! I loved all the charming and curious treasures throughout her home and adored sharing tea and (s)poring over pictures of mushrooms. 💕 I hope to return to Santa Cruz and Caroline’s spot soon!

  • This is a charming, sparkling clean house in a lovely quiet neighborhood, highly recommend it! It was just my husband and I, but would be a great place to visit with extended family.

  • Veda’s place is a great place and space in the west side of Santa Cruz. It’s a very short walk to West Cliff drive to stroll along the beach. Stores, shops, bakery/coffee, restaurants are very nearby. Downtown and UCSC are short drives. It is located in a nice, quiet, safe residential neighborhood. The space inside is welcoming in design and function; spacious kitchen and living room, plenty of bed space and privacy, nice shower and bathrooms. The patio space in back has plenty of space, seating, and a very good gas barbecue. The house provided the perfect place for 4 lifelong friends to visit and reconnect. It would also be excellent for families or multiple couples.

    John2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house is awesome, a few blocks away from Westcliff and the ocean, quiet cute street, cafes and restaurants in walking area (Westside), large kitchen and hangout area, great patio, we loved our stay! Thank you!

    Anna2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place. Great host. Quick responses. Everything was better than expected! Will definitely be back!

    Mike2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 3rd family trip here. I love how the rental is set up for success— games, tvs, laundry, lots of blankets and towels, and a very well equipped kitchen where most of the plates and glasses are break-resistant (great feature if you have little kids in tow or even if you don’t!). Great location— the kids love going on early morning walks to the nearby park or a few blocks to the (inactive) train tracks, and it’s a short drive to the boardwalk.

  • Out of all of the Air Bnb’s I’ve stayed in, Jenna’s place is by far, my favorite. The space itself is airy and open, thoughtfully decorated and smells like an Aveda store which I personally loved. The furniture is comfortable, with lots of different places to sit and relax. The plants in the apartment add life and the energy in this space just cannot be beat. The bed is comfortable, and the bedding provides the perfect amount of warmth for a good night’s rest. I really loved how the fireplace in the apartment provides all of the heat you need. The bathroom had lots of space to place your own toiletries, with some left out for you to use. I really appreciated the personal touches, such as the note that was left for me, the fresh flowers, chocolates on the bed, granola and yogurt in the fridge and the bottle of wine Jenna left out. It really added to the peaceful, welcoming vibe that I felt the entire time I was in Santa Cruz. Check in and check out was easy and Jenna was super responsive and friendly via text. Located just a few minutes from UCSC, and close to lots of great coffee shops and eateries, Jenna’s apartment is definitely a great place to call home if you’re visiting town. Thanks so much, Jenna! I can’t wait to come back!

  • This rental was such a great find. I’m so glad we got to stay there. It’s stylish and homey. Jenna was an amazing host, she thought of everything you could possibly want in a rental and she was so helpful in offering suggestions on what to see & where to go. 5 stars all around!

    Kim2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Probably our best Airbnb experience ever. Jenna's home is a lovely place to stay: warm and comfortable, with everything we needed, and in a great location. Jenna herself was extremely helpful and friendly, and was always quick to respond to our questions. I would recommend this place to anyone, and I hope to be back in the future!

    Ben2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely LOVED staying here! As soon as I opened the door, the house felt as if it was welcoming us in. There is a super homey feel to the decor - books, unique pieces of artwork & comfy blankets, there was a bottle of wine & chocolate, tiny chocolates on our pillows & a bouquet of flowers with a nice welcome note encouraging us to help ourselves to the tangerines on the tree outside (we DEFINITELY took advantage of this!). While there is no oven, we found that using the stovetop sufficed and it gave us an opportunity to explore the restaurant recommendations they provided (Ristorante Avanti for the win!). I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of care Jenna put in to making sure we had everything we needed - keeping in close contact, responding very quickly to any queries we had, giving solid recommendations - and also providing extra tidbits throughout the house (oatmeal packets with fresh granola & berries on the side, quality teas & coffees, popcorn for movie nights, etc). For the ladies, there were also a ton of quality hygiene/care products to utilize in the event you forgot your own, even a straightener & curling iron! I didn't use these but it was nice to see that they were provided. Really, I only have two small suggestions for improvements; First, some sound proofing or something along those lines so that the heels (above the bedroom) and the garage door/car doors (right next to the bedroom) aren't as loud. Secondly, there is a staircase covered by a large curtain that leads up to a door with access to the rest of the house. Although it wasn't a huge deal, for a bit more peace of mind, it would have been great to be able to lock the door from our side of the house. Overall, we cozied up pretty quickly and found that whether we were sitting on the patio enjoying mimosas or curling up next to the fire with a book, we felt relaxed and at home. Santa Cruz was awesome to explore and we enjoyed the restaurants and activity recommendations that Jenna & Gavin provided. We'll definitely visit again!

  • This place was great and we would love to stay here again. The bed and sheets were very comfortable.

  • Beautiful home, wonderful hosts, perfect location!

    Hailey2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jenna and Gavin's beautiful apartment was just perfect! We've stayed in a lot of AirBnBs over the last 8 years and we felt this was in the top 5% of nicest places, with wonderful amenities that went above and beyond, and super helpful hosts. The place was so well-appointment, and Jenna and Gavin left so many thoughtful touches, like wine and chocolate, yogurt and granola to enjoy, and well organized, fresh cooking supplies like olive oil and spices. It was extra special to enjoy fresh citrus they had picked for us from their trees right outside! We especially enjoyed how comfortable the bed and the linens were, and the apartment was so cozy. It was chilly and we enjoyed the fireplace every day, and took advantage of the bikes to ride along the West Cliff Drive path, which was a lovely perk. From a location perspective, we had a rental car and everywhere we needed to go was within 10 mins or less from the house. We highly recommend this apartment and would absolutely stay again when we next visit Santa Cruz. Thank you Jenna and Gavin for such a relaxing and beautiful stay!!

    Kate2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • My time spent in Santa Cruz was perfect. Jenna's apartment was tastefully decorated with all sorts of amenities that made you feel pampered. Classic and sweet Santa Cruz cottage. This is literally our Grandma's beach house. 3 bedroom home that is 2 doors away from one of the best beaches in Santa Cruz. 2 queen bedrooms upstairs and 1 full downstairs. Could be described as "shabby chic" but we see it as the adorable original rustic vacation house it was built as and has been its whole 130 years. The kitchen is updated but maintains it's old charm. The rest (aside from the addition of indoor plumbing) is still pretty much the same.
Our home is the funnest place in the world (possibly an overstatement but we think it is). This cozy cottage has been in the family for generations, it has a big set of stairs to get inside and a small spiral staircase to the upstairs bedrooms, the only bathroom is on the main level. It is a fantastic way to spend a few days, we usually have boogie boards and other beach toys around, instead of tracking them we have adopted a more casual approach and are ok with what comes and goes with guests, we seem to usually have fun stuff around. The neighborhood is quiet except with the sound of the waves, the calls of the sea lions, and the roar of the roller coaster on the Boardwalk you are never lonely. Upstairs are 2 queen bedrooms. Downstairs has a small bedroom with a full bed. The bathroom is downstairs with a clawfoot tub with a shower above. The living room is light and bright with 3 glass walls. We have internet and no TV. The combination of small spiral stairs and the clawfoot tub make the house not suitable for people with mobility limitations. The back deck had a table and some chairs, a bbq and peeks at the ocean.
Seabright beach is one of the best beaches in Santa Cruz and it is walking distance to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Java Junction, Betty's Burgers, Seabright Brewery, Linda's Sea Breeze Cafe, and Engfers Pizza are just a sampling of what Seabright has to offer just 2 short blocks away. The small but mighty natural history museum is just up the street with a giant whale sculpture for kids to climb on.
  • Such a lovely old school beach house with lots of charm! No frills, just beautiful space in beautiful location. Well kept and quiet. Sabina was SO accommodating with our check in and the process was all so simple. Would definitely recommend it!

My place is about a mile away from downtown Santa Cruz where there is plenty of great dining and shopping. There are other amazing restaurants even closer over here on the Westside. This cozy backyard studio is only 10 blocks from the ocean and close to great surf spots as well as the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space and the central location. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
When not in rental use the space serves as my art studio. I rarely have time to dedicate to big projects anymore, but a few of my creations are displayed in the room. It has bright light in the morning and opens into a high fenced garden for optimal privacy and beauty. The bed is a brand new (July 2017) 6in foam mattress. While there is not a full kitchen there is a mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The bathroom is a full bathroom with a tile shower.
Quiet residential neighborhood with two corner stores within walking distance for any last minute needs.
  • We loved Georgia’s place. Perfect location and amazing bed!

    Michaela2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Georgia was so great in communicating with us before and during our stay to making sure everything is perfect! We even made the mistake of booking a day late of our arrival and luckily, she came to the rescue for an early check in. This location is without a doubt the best we’ve ever had in Santa Cruz. Right down the street from West Cliff Drive, best for long walks and sunsets. Quiet neighborhood and no outside distractions. The room has a mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave and even a Bluetooth speaker which was used quite often. Fit to our expectations all around and then some. Thank you Georgia!

  • Great experience in a great location. Easy to get around downtown and lots of transportation available. A bit of a set back with getting our rental car forced us to use alternative means to get around but it couldn't have been easier. Dianne was super helpful and welcoming. We would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away for the weekend.

  • My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights during a trip to UCSC. Admittedly the area is rough (as accurately described in the host's description), but once you get in to the unit it's fantastic. The noise was nowhere near as bad as I expected. Even on Friday/Saturday night you really couldn't hear very much once you're inside the unit. The unit is fantastic-- you can tell they take a lot of pride in the space. There's tons of thoughtful touches throughout (extension cables below the TV in case you need, printed directions on how to reset the heater in case you need, extra blankets if needed, etc). It was very clean, had lots of silverware/plates/etc, full size refrigerator, etc. The unit is on the small side, but really feels cozy. We had a great stay and would recommend to anyone!! Thanks so much!

  • A good place to stay while you visit the area.

  • I enjoyed my stay in Bright and Cheery Living's place. It had everything I needed for a comfortable stay in a very convenient location. It's situated next to a donut shop and near to a main thoroughfare so earplugs are important to have on hand at night. But the room itself feels snug and secure. I slept very well on the comfortable bed.

    Carrie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying at Bright & Cheery Living’s place a lot. The studio is cozy and has everything one needs. Check-in was made easy by the detailed instructions Sid provided, and communication was fast and easy. Sid checked in to make sure I had everything I needed.

  • A great location for slipping on an off the highway to shoot out to San Jose or parts south.

    Ria2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint and beautiful back guest home that is conveniently located in a centralized part of Santa Cruz. The space is beautifully furnished and the check-in/Check-our process was easy and convenient. I would definitely stay there again.

  • Ben’s place is terrific. Bright, clean, and inviting, with everything we needed and the perfect central location for exploring around Santa Cruz. Ben was also an incredibly thoughtful host. Super responsive and accommodating. If you’re looking for a stay in Santa Cruz you’d be hard pressed to find a better spot. We absolutely recommend it.

  • Ben's place was easily one of the nicest air bnb stays I've had. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and included all the amenities we needed. There were even plenty of books, movies, and games. We especially enjoyed the cozy gas fireplace in the evening. Ben was quick to respond to questions and went out if his way to make sure we had an excellent stay. I definitely hope to stay at Ben's place again the next time I'm in Santa Cruz.

    Kristiane2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • One of the cleanest and coziest Airbnbs at which I've stayed. The host is very communicative and friendly, and he lives on-site to help with any issues. The shower is divine! Nice free standing gas stove in the living room cranks out heat. The space has plenty of light and immaculately clean. We loved the location, close to downtown but also numerous natural food stores, restaurants, and mountain biking trails.

STR18-0122 We are situated in the BEST area! We are a 20 minute walk to downtown and 20-25 minute walk to West Cliff Dr. We have many restaurants within walking distance: Mexican, Thai, Chinese, burger, Greek, falafel. There's a great bakery a block away.
The room and bathroom are cozy and private. Hardwood floors throughout. The bed is a queen with a comfy gel top and the sheets are cotton sateen. There is a microwave and fridge, a coffee maker with coffee and cream, tea and sweeteners. I also have breakfast items and various snacks and filtered water. There's a flat screen tv with directTV. There is also wifi. Shampoo, conditioner, bath soap and a hair dryer are provided. An iron and ironing board are available on request. Although the ironing is not great, the linens are freshly laundered after each guest! Ceiling fan for those warm days. For those who want to do laundry, there's a laundromat at the end of the block.
The neighborhood is great. I am centrally located. A short walk to downtown and west cliff drive. West side Santa Cruz is the home of many restaurants and coffee houses and bakery's. We have wine tasting and brewery's. It's a great location for those who want to go to the university, the beach or downtown! It's good for walkers because everything is close. It's good for bikers with trails such as Wilder ranch a short ride away. There's a bike shop close by to rent bikes if you'd like. If you want to take public transportation, there's a bus stop at the end of the street.
  • Toni was sweet and hospitable. Her dogs are adorable. (But they have rooted hair and are not allowed in the room or areas leading to the room. Would stay with her again if I'm ever back in Santa Cruz.

    Katrina2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect cozy and private spot in a great west side location.

    Betsy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Toni was a great host; very friendly and welcoming. She was quick to respond to our questions and her place was full of thoughtful touches.

  • Pictures and comments don't justify how amazing Toni's home and personal touches are until you see for yourself!

    Joseph2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Toni’s place was extremely comfortable and clean! The guest suite is definitely highly recommended for those looking to explore Santa Cruz and the Bay Area!

    Emmy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Toni is a very professional, friendly and welcoming host. The room was very clean and cozy, the bathroom has a comfortable size and was also very clean. The location is ideal - the wharf is 20 minutes, downtown 10 minutes walking distance. Thank you Toni for the great experience:-)

What our guests say is that they like a cottage that is not in the host's backyard. Located on a seldom used alley 2 blocks from the beach, harbor, and restaurants. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is a walk of about 1 1/2 miles or 2 miles driving. Guests appreciate that the cottage is only used by humans. Please have all guests read the listing description so all are informed.
No smoking on this property. Inside or outside. Please don't risk your security deposit by smoking. This property is appropriate for humans only. Please be aware that if you park in any of the neighbor's parking spaces my phone will ring. My neighbors are friendly and I like to keep it that way. Come discover why Santa Cruz is such a popular destination. Our stand alone cottage (not in our back yard) is on a quiet alley way centrally located near great activities. Easy walking to the yacht harbor and beach so you can rent kayaks, surf boards, SUPs (stand up paddling). Bicycling along the ocean is fairly flat or go to the mountains for a challenging mountain bike ride. Or course one of the best beaches for sun bathing and volleyball is an easy two block walk right behind the ever popular Crow’s Nest Restaurant. TripAdvisor is listing Santa Cruz as No. 15 among U.S. destinations on the rise, partly for being one of America’s surfing capitals. The top three things to do as recommended by visitors: West Cliff Drive, for breathtaking views and a chance to see monarch butterflies, the San¬ta Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum. Santa Cruz Food Tour is the top-rated tour, fol¬lowed by Stagnaro Fishing Trips & Whale Watching and Chardonnay Sailing Charters. West Cliff Inn is the top-rated hotel, followed by Dream Inn, Sea and Sand Inn, Edgewater Beach Motel and Bella Notte. Malabar Cafe, which features Asian and vegetarian cuisine, is the top-rated restaurant, followed by Marianne’s Ice Cream and Zachary’s. This cozy and clean studio cottage is self contained. It has a queen size Murphy (wall bed) bed that easily folds up for extra space during the day and a standard twin bed that pulls out of the couch. I just bought a new La-Z-Boy twin sleeper June 2014 so I believe it is as comfortable as it gets. The charming bathroom has a blue tiled shower with unlimited hot water. There is also a hair dryer. The full kitchen comes with a toaster, blender, coffee maker, gas stove, microwave, and refrigerator. We also have an ironing board and iron for your convenience. Comcast provides services for Wi-Fi, and the 32” flat screen smart TV. There is also a DVD player. We make available clean sheets, pillow cases, and blankets for your convenience. Or you can bring your own linens. It will be up to you to make the beds. For the bathroom we provide towels, hand towels, and wash cloths. There are also 4 beach towels. Within walking distance we have everything you need for a lazy day. For restaurants close by you can walk to the Crow’s Nest, Johnny’s Harborside, El Palomar Café, Java Junction (coffee), Harbor Café (breakfast and lunch). Aldo’s (update... 2016 Aldo's is serving out of a food truck with beautiful outside seating) is on the other side of the harbor which is great for a long walk. During the summer there is a free water taxi that goes around the harbor. Slow, calm, and great for all ages. For local grocery stores Santa Cruz style we have Shopper’s Corner, New Leaf, and Staff of Life. We also have two Whole Foods and a Trader Joe’s. Right around the corner on 7th is the local convenience store and deli called Deke's. I am surprised that TripAdvisor didn’t mention Pacific Garden Mall for an activity. Downtown is a really cool way to get exposure to Santa Cruz. Just sit on a bench and watch what goes by. Or course they have movies and restaurants and shopping and treats. Our rates are seasonal so watch the calendar for the current rate. If you enjoy long beach walks or walks around a harbor where the scenery is forever changing this is the place for you. The low sounds of sea lions in the distance and the long lines of Brown Pelicans flying by are always mesmerizing. If you enjoy great restaurants the world famous Shadowbrook in Capitola consistently gets voted for most romantic. The Cottage is located near everything! Just a 5 minute walk up Seventh Avenue from Twin Lakes Beach and the Santa Cruz Harbor. You will find beachfront dining, volleyball, Thursday Night Beach BBQ and Music, Wednesday Afternoon Sailing Regatta, Saturday morning Ukulele community beach group, and your spot for bonfires on the beach. Just 2 miles away is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, with free Wednesday Night Movies on the Beach and Friday Night Concerts. Downtown Santa Cruz is just 10 minutes away and is the spot for movies, dining, shopping, and people watching. Capitola Village (3 miles) is a cute waterfront village with entertainment, dining, and shopping (also another beautiful beach). San Francisco is an hour and one half away north and Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur are just one hour south. UCSC, Cal, Stanford, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, and Cal State University, Monterey Bay are all within an hour away. We hope you choose our cottage for your stay.
People are really friendly in this comfortable neighborhood. You can just park your car and have plenty to do within walking distance. Or use it for home base and visit Big Sur or the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There is plenty of beauty and action right here. Check out www.santacruzlife.com for current events. Amazing what you will find to do. Always something happening in Santa Cruz.
  • Perfect!

  • Easy access to the beach and a nice place to stay.

    Heather2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very clean and accommodating. The location is really close to the beach but the photos kinda indicate that it’s a little like walking directly out the door into the beach. I didn’t realize it’d be a short walk, which was fine. I think I would’ve preferred a little clarification. Anyway, the water heat and pressure was spectacular and there weren’t any surprises which I like.
