  • Meg’s place was above and beyond. The location was great. Our long weekend was so relaxing we didn’t want to leave. Would highly recommend staying here if you’re traveling to the region.

  • Beautiful views! Our dog appreciated the food and water bowls, as well as the large dog bed. There were plenty of towels, blankets, toilet paper, etc. The host (Meg) was very thorough and prompt in her messages, and she gave us a great hike suggestion (Zapata Falls).

  • Megs place was amazing! It had great views all the way around. We love how secluded it was. Even though I was sick the whole time, it was a nice stay. We are hoping to go back in the summer and spend more time.

Set up camp at 9000 feet on 14 acres of private land in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Range. The property offers beautiful views of San Luis Valley to the west and the snow-capped peaks of Blanca Peak to the north. I don't offer any additional amenities on site, so you will be camping out in the wilderness! Due to elevation, be prepared to bring warm camping gear. This property is in a gorgeous area that offers privacy with a beautiful view. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
During the day, enjoy the scenery around you with views of the San Luis Valley and the Sangre de Cristo Range. At night, see all of the stars you can imagine. Seen in the photos, Mt. Blanca is the 4th highest peak in the Rocky Mountains; a fourteener coming in at 14,351 feet. The property is about 45 minutes (39 miles) from Great Sand Dunes National Park, one of the most intriguing national parks in the United States. The closest town is Fort Garland, Colorado, about 15 minutes (10 miles) north of the property sandwiched in between the mountain range to the north. Fort Garland has a grocery store, a couple restaurants, and gas stations. About 15 minutes to the south is San Luis, the oldest continuously inhabited town in Colorado. When you come on-site, there is a steep dirt road that takes you to the property, however, the views from the top are stunning. In the winter, the property does sometimes have snow since it resides right above 9000 feet, so book during these times at your own risk. It does frequently get very cold at night time due to the elevation, even into the summer. Please make sure you pack warm camping gear. I can provide you with any additional information about the property and how to access it as necessary. There are photos attached to check-in that show the 14-acre area that is accessible to you.
There are minimal residential areas close by, but if you are looking for a cheap place to stay within an hour or two from fantastic hiking, this is the place to be! Fort Garland is about 10 miles to the north and offers basic necessities.
  • Fantastic location. It's nice to have a private spot to camp and watch the stars! We would definitely stay here again.

  • Jacob was extremely responsive when we had questions about camping etiquette and directions. The land was the perfect size for our group of 4 adults, 1 child and a dog who doesn't get along well with other dogs. We can't bring him to typical campgrounds, so this was perfect - we've never felt so comfortable camping with him off leash. The mountain views and pristine nature, combined with easy access but off the beaten track location, was perfect for our camping weekend! We shall return!

    Emily2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place was perfect as an in between stop from CO and Taos NM. Jacob described the place accurately and gave great detailed instructions to find the camping spot. He communicated clearly and was great about getting back quickly. Very private and although there were no amenities, that was detailed in the description and we were able to comfortably sleep at night with some beautiful moonlight.

    Michelle2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • It is certainly a primitive campsite, but the views are spectacular! My friend and I got to see a great sunset. Highly recommend camping here!

Get away from it all in our remote, contemporary style, off-grid, Colorado treehouse, located in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains at 10K ft elevation. Relax on the deck while taking in the amazing views of Culebra Peak or gaze at the star filled skies. A tiny wood-burning stove keeps you cozy and warm (and a propane heater comfortable through the night). The sectional couch converts to a bigger than CalKing-sized bed. Older kids will be excited to sleep in the loft on a comfy queen foam topper.
Please note, this is a camping experience, not a hotel stay. The treehouse is located at 10K feet elevation and you will experience shortness of breath when you exert yourself and you may experience altitude sickness. Once you get there, it takes about 30 minutes to set things up (set up and secure ladder, move and set up camping chairs, unfold tables, roll kitchen cart in place, set up toilet/sink area). It is a tiny treehouse (200sf) and is very remote and off-grid. Although the pictures show that the treehouse has light fixtures, switches and electrical outlets, it currently does not have electrical power. A solar panel power system is planned for installation in the future. The hosts won't be available during your stay. Please remember to PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT, including trash and toilet waste. I do not charge a cleaning fee, so please make sure you leave the treehouse as you found it, clean and orderly for the next group. We believe in an honor system and trust our guests. If you find something unacceptable, send the host a picture(s) of the issue immediately. Use check out check list located in guide book when checking out. Thanks! WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING (GLAMPING = Glamorous Camping) -Sleeping bags (and pillows) -Layered clothing, rain jackets/coats (mountain weather can change quickly) -Toiletries -All food, drinking water, drinks - Ice (small portable coolers or soft coolers with handles to carry up 10 foot ladder. A pulley and rope is available to assist hauling up gear. - Camp towels - Camping necessities: headlamps, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. -The small town of San Luis is 20 minutes away in case your forget something. -Suggestion: external battery pack to keep your phone and electronics charged WHAT IS PROVIDED - Limited sink water (blue jug with spout - see picture #28). No bathing water provided. - 4 deck/camping chairs - Basic first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and smoke/carbon monoxide detector -An amazing experience with incredible views! KITCHEN - Coleman 2 burner propane camping stove and propane - Lighters - Basic cooking supplies for five (5) people: medium sized pots and pans, serving utensils - Insulated stainless steel plates and bowls for five (5) people - Metal utensils and cups - Environmentally safe kitchen soap - Kitchen sponges - Salt and pepper - Trash bags (all used trash bags will need to be taken with you). BATHROOM - Environmentally safe hand soap - Composting toilet waste bags (all used bags will need to be taken with you.) - Toilet paper - Hand sanitizer GROUPS The treehouse is designed for up to 4 adults (or a small family with OLDER kids) and is NOT for use with babies, young children or large groups. HEALTH AND SAFETY Treehouse is on a sloped property at 10,000 feet elevation. You may experience altitude sickness. You will need to be fit enough to carry your supplies uphill for approximately 50 feet (from road) and then climb a 10 foot ladder to access the treehouse. Again, consider this a working camping trip rather than hotel stay. NO showers unless you bring water and use provided camping solar shower bag. Use at your own risk. Absolutely no young children due to safety reasons. MOBILE PHONE SERVICE There is spotty mobile phone coverage for Verizon and AT&T. Most reliable locations for reception are on the front part of the treehouse deck. ACCESS During the summer, the property is easily accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle. Autumn is relatively easy but, of course, weather permitting. Spring is difficult due to snow/mud conditions (check with host regarding road conditions before booking)! No vehicle access in the winter! Regardless of 4 wheel drive, snow at altitude becomes sand-like and ALL 4 wheel drive vehicles will sink and get stuck. Winter access is by snowmobile only (and cargo sled(s) to carry your supplies). PARKING Ideally, parking near the treehouse should be temporary. In some circumstances, a vehicle can be parked on the road (50 steps down from the treehouse a day or two. Long-term parking (more than 2 days) is accessed from Forbes road. When not unloading near the treehouse on Ryland, it is recommended that all vehicles should be parked on the long-term parking dirt "pad" located on the property. You can walk back and forth along the scenic path (approximately 500 feet) between long-term parking and the treehouse.
We have neighbors nearby, although they cannot be seen from the property. Please note that sound carries very easily on the mountain/valley. Enjoy the sound of nature. Please respect quiet hours at all times but especially between 9pm - 9am. No loud music or generators at any time! • Jorge's place was one of the most unique places we have ever stayed, more than a treehouse, it felt like a floating cabin! Well stocked w/everything we needed for a mountain retreat and "glamping" is a great description. Loved the self-serve bathroom right there (no need to climb down and trek to a stinky outhouse) and it was easy to cook/lounge on the sweet deck. Views are spectacular during the fall change of season. Felt toasty as heating stove worked great and kids loved the loft and felt safe. Helpful to read what we needed to bring up in advance to make the stay comfy and memorable in this "leave-no-trace" pristine mountain place. Fast host responses and we already want to go back - highly recommended!

    Margarita2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Visited Jorge’s place in the fall and caught all the amazing colors and views from the top of the tree line. Great spot to relax and enjoy nature. It is a cozy place with everything we needed to make our time very enjoyable.

  • Great host and great place! Was very responsive and very accommodating. Had the entire family and put the teenagers in a tent outside. Pretty remote area but beautiful! Would definitely recommend!

    Allison2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Robert was a fantastic host who was very responsive to any need that we had. The stay was just what we were looking for in a fun, weekend getaway, that had all sorts of adventure (hiking, camping, sand boarding, swimming, etc.)! I highly recommend staying at one of Robert’s campers - you will not be disappointed!

    Justin2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Robert’s place was great for a weekend trip to the Great Sand Dunes/surrounding area. The camper comfortably fit myself and 5 other friends. Robert was super helpful, friendly, and quick to respond!

  • It's an RV. It has all the usual RV amenities. The bed we stayed in was comfortable... and the shower was a very pleasant surprise. Now if you are here for the RV itself you are here for the wrong reasons. The view is amazing. Plain and simple. The host Robert is a kind, accommodating guy. If you are in the mood to chat, he is knowledgable in so many different things and always willing to have an entertaining chat. He went above and beyond for us on this trip... helped out in many ways. Greatly exceeded his responsibilities to us as guests. We will come back to see Robert again.

    Kevan2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • The location was outstanding with some awesome views. Robert was very accommodating and made our stay really easy for a quick night trip. Will definitely use again if in that area

    Josh2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Robert is a phenominal host. As with most RV's there were a few hiccups. What surprised us is how he went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of regardless. We will definitely be staying there again.

    Brad2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Robert’s place is beautiful! If you want a remote and authentic experience in southern Colorado that is still convenient to get around, this is it! The camper is equipped with everything you need to sleep, shower, and cook comfortably, and really can accommodate a good-sized group. It even has TV and WIFI if you get rained in and need some entertainment. Sitting by the fire at night is amazing, The temps were perfect for it. Robert himself is such a nice guy, he joined us both nights to sit outside and talk, and he was great to hang out with. He is also a very responsive host, any time I needed to ask a question he answered within minutes, which was so helpful. This is a great place to stay, two thumbs up!

Large modular home off grid with a large porch on the outside and on 5 acres in the Trinchera Ranch subdivision just outside of Fort Garland. In the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo mountains with beautiful views all around. You can hunt, hike, and explore the 4500 acres of common land that rest in the subdivision during your stay. A real retreat from the hustle and bustle. Plentiful with wildlife, trout streams, elk and deer trails, grouse, bear, mtn lions and beautiful hummingbirds in summer.
There are 3 bedrooms in the house but 1 is used for storage right now. 2 bedrooms are available for use. There are 2 bathrooms. However, because of the water pressure 1 toilet and 1 shower is available to use during your stay. We are in the process of fixing a few maintenance issues currently. There's a washer and dryer for your use during your stay. A propane grill and table are out on the porch to use.
In the town of Fort Garland there are two very good restaurants that we like to go to while we're there. All-Gon Pizza and Old West Cafe right off Hwy 160. You can explore the Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center off Hwy 159. During the summer, The Great Sand Dunes are only 40 minutes away from the property. As is the Colorado Gator Reptile Park in Mosca and the Sand Dunes Swimming Pool and RV Park, that has a large pool, diving board and a 21+ hot tub area open year round. Minimal light pollution, for amazing night sky viewing.
  • Stay was great, place was nice and quiet, very clean, great host. If you are into hunting this is a great place to be central hub for the areas.

50 acres of private plateaus, pinions, and peaks. Come camp and play around the Home reservoir. Fires, S'Mores, Marshmallows of all flavors welcome. Primitive camping! Pets are great!
Vast and wide open. Come cook over an open fire.
  • Five stars! What an incredible find! We were late getting to the dunes so reserved a campsite near nightfall. It's affordable and overseen by a really friendly host whom you'll likely meet as he greets you on his 4 Wheeler after you've set up camp. This is still camping so no toilet (gasp!) but it has a great view of the stars, flat ground for the tents and surrounded by trees, with fire rings, and it's better than paying for a hotel or house. I highly recommend! If you arrive in the dark be patient trying to find your campsite and try to keep it down for other campers.

This place is nestled in chama colorado and is above my home. It offers 3 comfortable beds and beautiful panoramic views. You’ll have the beauty of the mountains without having to travel through mountainous roads to get here.

  • Maria was quick to answer my messages when we were planning our trip. Our trip was during New Year's Eve and when we arrived we mentioned we were going to go get some dinner. She offered us a pizza and when my husband went downstairs she had included fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and parmesan cheese. She literally thinks of everything. Her loft proved that. On the table was a basket of snacks including popcorn, wafers, noodles, etc. We had decided to bring sausage and bacon since she offered fresh eggs. My son was even able to experience collecting an egg. The room is spacious and the bathroom was stocked as well with items one might forget; shaving cream, razors, toothbrush, and toothpaste. The bathtub and toilet are sparkling white. I enjoyed a warm bath in the deep tub. The kitchen had everything we needed from measuring cups, blenders, skillets. It had all the items you need, ketchup, mustard, dressing, oatmeal, coffee, water, salt, and pepper. Maria even had an amazing back massager that relieved my aching back. We saw Maria when we first got there and she told us to come and knock on the door if we needed anything or to message her. Plenty of privacy, with a separate door and parking space. The beds were comfortable especially the pillows. The view out of each window was amazing. The big picture window with a rocking chair was my favorite. We will definitely consider Maria's place if we are up this way again.

  • Maria Elena does a wonderful job providing all youll need in her peaceful house of light. Hospitable, accomodating, considerate.

  • I read a review on this and it was everything I expected and so much more. I went on a girls trip with a couple of friends and she was the most accommodating hostess I’ve had yet. Diamond in the rough! Expect nothing but the best. I will definitely be staying here again!

    Karin2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Maria's place is absolutely beautiful. Sunrise to moonset beautiful views. her place is immaculate and very comfortable to relax after a busy day in the area highly recommend a visit to Maria's place.

    Christine2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a diamond in the rough! It’s listed as a studio, but is really 1000 square foot loft with a little nook for the bedroom. The views from the balcony are amazing.... the stars on a dark night sparkle like something you see on TV. There’s a full kitchen with all the amenities you could possibly need, and if something isn’t there, like a crock pot, ask and Maria Elena will quickly supply it. She even left some fresh eggs from her chickens and some drinks in the fridge. It was also pretty cool waking up to a rooster. Definitely country living in this little place. She also had some thoughtful extras, like a toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, and deodorant just in case i forgot something, which i did! The other thing about this place is you don’t need a 4 wheel drive to get there. I would highly recommend a stay at Casita de Lucero. Maria Elena and her not so little loft are amazing!!!!

We booked it for eight though only six people made the trip, there was certainly room for more. It has a huge deck with many separate seating areas. We really appreciated all the amenities. Large windows allow great views of ponderosa pine and visiting deer. Modernization in the 50s to add kitchen and bath facilities included the enclosure of a porch with its sloped floor intact. Steep, narrow stairs are also typical of the era. If you love historic cabins, this is a great base for fishing, hunting or hiking.
The comfortable small space was built in the shadow of the Stone Wall, a dramatic section of the Dakota Wall which towers over Hwy 12 as it turns north through the pass headed to Cuchara. The morning sun on the wall is a treat that is not to be missed and we provide two coffee makers to prove the point. The wall also adds a cool view from the shower (before the windows fog). Many deer and the occasional bear are regular visitors to the area and can be easily seen through the large windows.
Stonewall Country Club neighborhood was developed in 1904 by business leaders of Trinidad as an 8,000 foot refuge from the summer heat. All dining was communal in the space now known as Middlefork Resort. Most cabins added kitchens and bathrooms mid-century. The tiny "Butterfly" is a rustic example of the era and a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy family, friends and nature year round. My husband's family has owned the Jamieson Cabin (next door) for over 100 years. I have been coming with him and his wonderful family since the summer of 1980. We purchased The Butterfly Cabin four years ago cause when something only comes on the market every 75 years you gotta jump when you get the chance! I have loved the look of The Butterfly since that very first year, hope you love it too..
  • Great place to stay to enjoy a rustic wooded cabin. Beautiful scenery and very quiet surroundings. It snowed about three inches while we were there, so we cozied up by the fire and relaxed by playing cards and listening to music. It was very cold (single digit temps) but the fireplace and the electric blankets served us well.

  • This cabin is gorgeous and the views are beautiful. We enjoy the quiet and the wildlife and the convenience of being close to Trinidad. We have enjoyed ourselves at this cabin both times we have visited.

  • If you want a quiet getaway to relax, The Butterfly is the perfect place! Cute, quaint and has all the necessities. Every day we were greeted by deer that walked right up to the porch. Perfect area for spotting wildlife. It won't disappoint!

  • Our group enjoyed our stay at this very historic cabin. The decor was amazing. Wherever we turned we saw the theme of the cabin which is the butterfly. The ladies loved their stay. We loved the outdoor living areas aka the porch.

A beautiful house in the Cuchara valley, surrounded by trees and mountains. A relaxing, cozy little getaway. Enjoying the fresh mountain air. Two towns near by, La Veta and the little local town of Cuchara. There's a grocery store and laundry in La Veta. There's a few restaurants in La Veta. There's a hot Springs near the Sand Dunes national park. If you drive over Cuchara pass towards Trinidad, there are two beautiful lakes. Hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing near by.
Our house is located in the Cuchara valley, at the base of the old ski resort. We think this area is a perfect place to stay. We have enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. We have 3 bedrooms, and 3 full baths. We have a great kitchen for breakfast and dinner. We have two televisions and dvd players to watch your favorite movie. The decks are a great place for all those people that enjoy the outdoors. There's several hiking trails which are listed in the binder at the house. Several lakes to fish at.
Great place to live. The people who live here are great. There's so many people that have lived in the area for some time. Good place to relax
  • Fantastic cabin, for a getaway with family and friends! Spacious, great kitchen, fireplace, two great decks, surrounded by nature! We had a great time!

  • The home is lovely and comfortable; sitting on a beautiful, wooded parcel. Deer grazed in the yard, in the early morning hours. Chipmunks played around the deck, keeping our pups entertained. A very relaxing stay.

Mountain Cabin in Elk Country!! Walking distance to excellent fishing at Monument Lake. Walk to “Shopping Bag” country store for excellent home cooked food! Beautiful wrap around porch for some tranquil porch sitting! Short bike ride/drive to popular elk viewing! Pizza delivery, dine in, or pick up within a mile.
Cabin sits next to the world famous Stonewall.
  • Great place to spend a couple of days fishing

    Allen2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I brought our son and his family ice fishing. We had stayed in the cabin before so we knew that it was going to be a great experience. Our kids loved the cabin as much as we do!!

    Jo2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cell service is very limited, so it might be helpful to double check directional details prior to arrival, especially after dark! The general store is very close and has basic groceries, gift shop novelties and beer/wine/liquor. There is a restaurant there as well that is delicious! For anything else, or consistent cell service, you will need to travel towards Trinidad, which is a scenic 40-ish minute drive. The cabin itself is simple, cozy, warm and has safety features on the windows to keep you feeling secure among the hiding wildlife :) The property is gated and well lit. Again, no wifi or cell service (which we loved), but there is a TV and VCR in the cabin with a selection of VHS tapes available to watch if wanted (our daughter had a kick out of learning how to rewind a VHS!) This place is perfect for a quiet getaway/hunting excursion with a beautiful view and decrease in technology distraction! We will definitely meander back this way in the future!

  • Cozy!

    Alex2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place! Yes, its right off the main road, but after dark there is basically no traffic. Easy walk down the street to the Shopping bag. Fire pit was a big plus. You may want to load up on firewood before you start your trip,as its expensive locally. You will occasionally get 1 bar on your cell phone if you are lucky so plan accordingly. The stairs to the loft are very steep so we slept downstairs on the bottom bunk. The bathroom is attached to this room, which was convenient. Over all we had a great time and will definitely come back!

Sun drenched rustic cabin on a working cattle ranch in the San Luis Valley. During the months of March, April and May cattle are in the meadows in the front of the cabin. With no wifi, this is a place to disconnect and be with nature. Located just west of the Rio Grande, the Crestone mountain range and Mt. Blanca are to the north, and the Sangre De Cristo mountains are to the east. Private, secure, wonderful get away.
New Log Cabin on a working cattle ranch. Remote natural get away.
You must bring your own drinking water and all groceries, and be aware that the closest grocery is 15 minutes away in La Hara, so plan accordingly ! (URL HIDDEN) it is about an hour and 20 minutes from the cabin . The hot springs are fun as well and they have a a big pool where kids can swim (URL HIDDEN) The town of Chama is a two hour drive but beautiful. In Antonio (about 45 min) they have the original trains that run up and back to Chama as well. You have to book it in advance : (URL HIDDEN)
  • Erika’s place was amazing! It was a gorgeous, secluded spot surrounded by nature and cows galore. It was a beautiful cabin that was incredibly clean, had a great kitchen, a cozy hang out spot, lovely bathroom and a super comfy bed. The views were really incredible. It’s an easy drive to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We loved every moment of our time at this spot :)

    Rachel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful location! The views from the cabin are amazing and it was no problem to commute to Alamosa for restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed the alamosa wildlife refuge and the sand dunes; we saw several bald eagles on our drives around the area. I definitely recommend coming in from Hwy 285 or County Road 24 on the west side of the cabin, we originally arrived coming in from Hwy 159 and then down some county roads thanks to google maps and it is rough with several deep wash outs that we wouldn’t have made it through without a big truck. Great weekend and we would definitely stay again!

    Lesley2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin with some of the best views in Colorado. Erika was a very helpful and responsive host, and I highly recommend this place.

  • Absolutely breathtaking getaway cabin!! We had been dreaming of the day we finally were able to stay at this property. We stayed for almost a week over the holidays and it was just the most perfect location. First, Erika is amazing as a host. Anything you need to know or any questions you may have, she answers quickly and efficiently. The cabin itself, and the property it is situated on, are absolutely breathtaking. Huge windows all over the cabin to appreciate the sunlight and the 360 mountain views. The cabin was very cozy and felt like home. There were two wood burning stoves to keep us nice and cozy for the subzero temps. We made our meals there each day and throughly enjoyed the well stocked kitchen with spice, kitchen utensils and gadgets, etc. The location of the cabin is just incredible, each day we were able to have easy access to unbelieve adventures all over Southern CO and Northern NM. Each morning we were awestruck by the amazing sunrise views, and at night we sat on the porch and listened to the coyotes howl for hours. This was by far the most magical vacation we have ever been on, and I owe it all to Erika! Thanks so much again for the absolutely LOVELY getaway.

    Alyssa2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Erika’s cabin was a fantastic place to get away. The inside was chock full of goodies from animal heads, skins, old furniture and other decoratives. Very quiet and comfortable. Hardly anyone in sight while we were there. Mosquitoes were plentiful at night but there wasn’t much we could’ve done about that. Thank you so much!

    Christopher2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the “family weekend chalet” feeling or Erika’s place. Plenty of room, as quiet as can be. Thanks for sharing.

    Michael2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my sister’s families had such a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin! As a lifelong traveler to the area, I have never seen anything else like the scenery and views at the cabin. It was the perfect getaway from the activities in the neighboring towns we had scheduled with other family. It was very much appreciated that Erika’s description and personal messages had warning about the mosquitos. There were millions but the cabin was well stocked with plenty of bug repellant and sunscreen. We will definitely be back soon. Thanks again for everything, Erika!

    Amanda2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is incredible. The location was incredible and the cabin itself was very comfortable and so well organized and decorated. Our family of five (kids ages 4-9), plus our two dogs, were very comfortable in this space. Because of our amazing host's advice, we brought the right clothing and plenty of bug spray to keep the mosquito bites at a minimum, and had a wonderful time exploring the area. We took a trip to the Great Sand Dunes one day, which was amazing and a convenient distance. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to explore this amazing area.

  • This cabin is full of rustic charm. Just the right balance of amenities and roughing it. Cabin was more spacious than pictures showed. Within easy walking distance to all things Cuchara. Very quiet with lots of lovely scenery, wildlife and an easy pace. We even saw a black bear on our drive back from Bear Lake.

Elk Crossings Cabin is located at 9500 ft in the Sanger de Cristo Mountains in Forbes Park, just 12 miles outside the town of Fort Garland, Co. Forbes Park is a private, gated community in southern Colorado located between Walsenburg and Alamosa. Sitting on 13,000 acres, containing about 200 homes, this is the closest you can get to the Rocky mountains from Texas, just a 10 hour drive from Dallas. 4x4 vehicle Required in the spring and winter time. Check in time 3 PM Check out time 12 PM
The drive up to our beautiful cabin will take your breath away, and the secludedness of the cabin will immediately put you at ease. Enjoy everything from your morning coffee to evening happy hour on the custom built wrap-around deck surrounded by 100+ ft pine trees. The main open area of the cabin is comfortably homey with plenty of windows to enjoy the view, a well equipped kitchen with all needed appliances (gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, etc), a breakfast nook, main bedroom and closet, and a bathroom featuring in-unit laundry and a double headed shower! The couch in the living pulls out to comfortably sleep two, as well. The upstairs loft can sleep up to four, and children under 5 should be supervised in the loft area as the stairs are attic-like. We have stocked the cabin with one double and one single electric-pump inflatable beds.
The roads are regularly plowed by Forbes Park. During heavy snow but it may take 24 hours before they reach the back of the park where Elk Crossings is located. There will be an additional $75 charge if you request for the driveway to be plowed, otherwise you should be able to access the driveway with your 4X4 or park on the street
  • Wonderful place! Has everything you need to never have to leave. Even though 2 feet of snow fell during our stay, we hiked daily for miles. On one of the days we hiked up Grojean and into the nation forest and all the way down to Cuchara. (We had someone pick us up and drive us back though as snow was deep and hard trekking) This is the perfect spot to get away from it all. If you love the Rocky Mountains and Truly love Pine Trees, Douglas Fir and the most amazing Aspens I have seen; then this is the place for you. I cannot say enough Great things about this place. Just remember that if visiting during the winter time, they average over 200 inches of snow and need to have 4x4 or chains. We are regulars in these mountains and You will not regret this place at all. It is truly a hidden gem.

    Chris2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! A true cabin in the woods, away from any city life! Without light pollution, the stars were amazing! If coming during the fall/winter months, recommend 4x4/AWD minimum. Luckily there are great folks who live close by who have the means to get people safely to the cabin/highway by clearing any snow or downed trees. The cabin was great, and could easily accommodate larger groups comfortably. We saw tons of elk and no predators so I felt safe to let the pup run around. The cabin stayed toasty warm all week, and there was plenty of entertainment available. Fort Garland is the closest "town", that has gas stations, a few restaurants and a couple parks. The passes to get to this area can be a bit dicey, make sure you have plenty of gas incase there is some slow pass traffic. We will be back!! Thank you!

    Brett2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience, beautiful views, very well kept. Definitely will be coming back.

    Robert2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin. Thoughtfully designed. The place has a ton of windows and no curtains which threw me at first. However, the privacy of the property and way it’s positioned in relation tot he road leaves you with complete privacy. The windows look out to a beautiful forest. The place has everything you need. Comfortable living room to lounge and lookout at the wonderful scenery. An efficient gas fireplace, that will work even if the power goes down in a winter storm. My dog Linus and I ended up at the cabin during a winter storm where the area lost power for half a day. This impacted everything including the water. However, the gas fireplace in the living room was still running. I paid attention to the forecast and made sure I was prepared. I had plenty of water and food and kept warm. It is a cabin in the woods and in a nice, yet developing neighborhood. This means the street will be plowed during snow, but it may be later in the day. It’s a give and take with the remoteness and privacy you get in return. It got down to -8 one night and over the course of a few days gave us some good snow. Which was a gorgeous winter wonderland. I was also driving a Subaru Outback and had no trouble making it up and down the mountain. The kitchen was stocked, cabin was warm, land was beautiful and fun to explore. Linus and I had a great time. Very relaxing.

  • Jen is a great host and her cabin is delightful. It is right on the river and with the window open you can hear the water. Great location for exploring the Spanish Peaks country.

    Rachel2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jen's place is just great - the photos and description really don't do it justice! We traveled here for a quiet weekend getaway and that's just what we did. There are many hiking, fishing, and (non-motorized) boating opportunities within 20 minutes. Three small lakes are less than 15 minutes away! Monument Lake is a larger lake only 25 minutes away that offers boat rentals, has a restaurant, and excellent fishing! The house itself is much larger than you might think. The high ceilings and wood finishings really make it feel cozy. Sleep with a window cracked in any of the bedrooms and you can fall asleep to the sound of the river that's only 20 feet from the back porch! We were able to use the kitchen for breakfast makings and coffee, watched a movie on the big couch in the game room, and sat on the back porch to watch the summer lightning storms over one of the many nearby mountain peaks. We'd love to stay at Jen's place again sometime!

  • Our stay at Rick and Sue’s condo was a pure delight! It was stocked with everything one would need for a nice, stress free stay. The fireplace was an added bonus that heated the entire place! The double balconies was also a nice bonus with wonderful views of the nearby mountains. We didn’t have cell service (but we didn’t expect it) but the internet service works great and allowed us to stay in touch with family and friends using WhatsApp. It was also fast enough to stream to our AppleTV without issue. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again in the future (and expect we will!)

    Joe2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay! Parking Tip: Park between the top 2 buildings and walk down the stairs to the left - stay to the left and take the stairs up on the right. Shower Tip: Ease back the water pressure on the temp control to stretch the hot water duration. Heat Tip: Setting the heat temp was tricky. The master bedroom heater works exceptionally well and if you leave it on when you sleep (even at the lowest setting), you might bake your brain. There are plenty of blankets and leaving the room cool at night was definitely the right option for us. The dining room heater is a good one to have on, as well as setting the thermostat in the hallway. Everything else seemed to get too hot for our liking. +++++++++++++++++++++ Everything here was great - there is a ton of stuff to utilize if you didn't bring your own. Far more in the kitchenette than I expected. We did have to move some of the stuff to accommodate ourselves, but we turned out some great food from that little space! We kept coolers on the porches for additional cold storage. The gas BBQ was put to good use and took some of the pressure off the kitchen. Having a few toys for the kids was wonderful, although my 3 yo grandson was most entertained by the hand mixer. We left a little green shovel to help with snow, and if I had thought of it, I'd have picked up a mat for inside the front door for snow covered shoes. Somehow, none of us noticed the ice melt in the hot water closet. We really should have used it on the stairs.

  • Our family just LOVED this place! It accommodated our family of 7 perfectly! My kids loved sledding and my husband and I loved how close we were for them to sled. The view of the mountain was breathtaking!! You can’t go wrong with this place!!!

    Annie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot, outside of town, away from the lights and hustle, perfect for a romantic weekend away or relaxing vacation with the family. Wish we could have stayed forever!

    Jennifer2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I have been traveling to the Cuchara area and working on water resource construction projects for the past 6 years. Our crew has stayed at many different vacation rentals in the area. I would say this one is by far the best. Top notch communication and a very clean, well decorated space. Lots of room, comfortable beds and linens. Why would anyone go to Vail when this little gem is available!?!

    Clint2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place was better than expected! It has everything you need so you don’t have to stress to overpack and take every little thing! The location is awesome and so serene it feels like you’re in a painting. Cuchara Mountain Park is the place to go with kids to avoid the hustle and bustle of a huge resort but still get the Colorado mountain experience! Dawn was so sweet and accessible and accommodating.. I never seemed to bother her and I text her quite a bit! She has so much information on the area and tips on how to make the most of your vacation. I even called her before we left and she helped me pack! This is an awesome value and I would recommend to anyone looking to vacation in the Rockies

    Jason2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn was an amazing hostess!! Communication was wonderful and her personal touch was so sweet!! The house was fun, (however, small note that there is no backyard for dogs). There was a small town feel with a one-street historic town, (La Veta). We weren’t looking to do much exploring so we didn’t mind that there wasn’t much to do in regards to shopping or big-city events, (this is not the place for someone looking to hit a big city). The scenery was breathtaking and was exactly what we wanted for our white Christmas. This is a townhome, so you are extremely close to your neighbor. Overall, I would recommend Dawn’s home...we had a nice time!

    Farrah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re wanting a peaceful, comfortable home for 2 or three couples this place is awesome. Views are outstanding. Hope to be back one day. 😊

You will seemingly have the San Luis Valley of Colorado to yourselves. 35 acre Off grid camping site. There are no utilities here. However I have built a deck, fire pit and provide a propane grill for you to cook on. This is a beautiful remote spot located 3 miles east of the Rio Grand River, 20 miles south of The great sand dunes national park. 15 miles from Zapata waterfall and about 18 miles to Alamosa and 7 miles from Blanca Co. You will have views for almost 100 miles .
Usually I will have umbrellas and a hammock under the deck. This place is beautiful but it’s off the beaten path, it’s about 5 miles south of hwy 160 between Alamosa and Blanca Colorado. You will turn south on hwy 122 then cross over the rio grande rail tracks and take a right .i will provide detailed instructions after you book. Fires only in the pit I’ve provided, please be respectful of this desert environment, there are neighbors a few miles away. Mostly there are rabbits and beetles on the property. There are coyotes that are out at night but one has never bothered me unless I have left food out and left the campsite. Pack out what you pack in, you will need to take all trash with you when you leave. Right now you will have to dig a hole to use the bathroom, this is truly a back country type experience.

  • Quiet, peaceful and gorgeous setting with amazing views of mountains and forest. Condo is clean, well furnished and comfortable. We fished at Bear and Blue lakes (15 minutes away), hiked the Baker trailhead just steps outside our door and were able to just rest and relax. Hope to be back here soon 🥰

    Wendy2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay here. The condo is located very conveniently to Cuchara, La Veta, local trails, and best of all for us, the campgrounds and trails of Blue Lake and Bear Lake. For the first few days of our stay, we used it as our "staging area" while camping at Blue Lake Campground, then we moved in permanently, and it was just right for returning to the world of comfort after a few days of roughing it. It has everything you need: comfortable beds and furniture, kitchenware (including a good bread knife, which was a delightful surprise, as we had left ours at home), fantastic views of West Spanish Peak and its environs (a good pair of binoculars is also thoughfully provided!), and access to Baker Creek TH only a hundred yards away. Communication was great, check-in was easy, and information--what to do and how to do it--was provided in a handy three-ring binder on the coffee table. Five stars.

2018 cabin on 6 acres with 4 bedrooms & 3 baths. A 30x40 game room/bunk house next to the cabin for recreation. All next to a private fishing pond. Conveniently located to lakes, trails, restaurants, and much more. **The "accommodates 8 guests" does not include children. One queen bed is equipped with a trundle. Also 2 rollout twins and air mattresses available.
Formerly the location of Cuchara Valley Lodge. The Lodge was torn down and the old swimming pool building converted into a cabin.
There are no immediate neighbors. The cabin is not completely remote but enough privacy for guests.
  • Peaceful and relaxing. They had everything we needed for a great weekend!

  • The Hallowood Cabin was the perfect spot for my Full Moon Retreat. Accommodations exceeded our expectations and my guests couldn’t get over how breathtaking the location was. The wrap-around porch served as a great setting for yoga and meditation under the gorgeous Colorado sun, and additional touches like the hanging twinkle lights made our full moon ceremony especially beautiful. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, enough to accommodate 10 guests. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to host a large group. Thank you again, Lance. We can’t wait to come back next year!

    Anna2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was problem free and even better than expected based off of the listing. Cabin was clean, organized, and had many extra useful items. Plenty of space for the amount of people it can sleep stated in the listing. Very nice little private area with large deck overlooking pond to relax and fish with family and friends without a bunch of others trying to fish like public places. The pond is a decent size and has plenty of fish. I plan on staying here again in the future. Location was easy to find and check in was a breeze. Host was very helpful with everything asked and response time was very fast! Five stars without a doubt!

Huge property, nothing but the best in accommodations. We can’t wait until for next family trip to Cuchara, will definitely be staying here! Thanks again Lance!!

  • Robert was very responsive, directions were accurate, and the night sky didn't disappoint! It is definitely primitive camping, which was exactly what my friend an I were looking for. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be checking to see if Robert's got space for us. It was wonderful not being sardined into a campground with hundreds of other folks, jockeying for a place and being kept awake by night-owl revelers. Did I mention the night sky? When it's clear of clouds, it's incredible. If you have a telescope or enjoy night/astro photography, I'd recommend checking this place out. There are very few sources of light pollution. Be prepared for a rugged landscape though - plan to either hike with your gear a short way in (maybe a few hundred yards), or drive up some sage, cacti, and rock laden paths to the primitive campsites further up. Robert indicated he's working on grooming the property though, so definitely check with him because by the time you come to visit, he may have some really great sites set up!

    Tim2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We'd never AirBnB-ed a campsite before, bur Robert's place was great! Our camping plans fell through and we needed a place to stay in the area, and Robert was quick to respond. He greeted us on a 4 wheeler when we arrived to tell us about the property, and then left us alone to enjoy avery quiet and beautiful campsite. Perfect experience. There were a few good spots with fire rings, and the view was amazing.

    Gary2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Robert's place is great! I got there and saw the most epic rainbow I have ever seen in my life! Definitely need to be self-reliant to camp here and if you have that capability this is a great, affordable place in a beautiful area. Thanks!

    Lucy2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • My partner, our border collie, and I just spent 3 lovely days on Robert’s property! Our stay was everything we could have asked for - it was remote, with great hiking, beautiful views, and tons of space for our vivacious dog to run around and enjoy life. Robert is super friendly and helpful, which was a plus. I would definitely recommend staying on his land if you are looking for a reset or a desert adventure. My only advice is to have a pair of tweezers if you bring your fur-baby. Ours particularly enjoyed traipsing through the cacti. Also, make sure to bring water... lots of water. We had close to 3 gallons and almost ran out.

    Arielle2019-07-04T00:00:00Z

The heaters worked well (it was 3 degrees outside when we arrived and the place was comfortable within minutes). The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked all our meals since the local restaurants were closed during the week for the season. The WiFi was awesome! We had no problems with connectivity. There’s a fridge to keep your perishables cold, a coffee pot and a microwave - anything you might need to be comfy! We’re going to keep staying here as long as we are passing through the La Veta area. Great little bar by the creek too!
