Places to stay in Rathdrum
Back to nature in this tranquil little wooden building, beautiful antique windows reveal a gentle vista of rolling hills and open skies. It's Ireland's answer to glamping, (with a solid roof over your head ;) ) yet the feeling of being out in nature.
This is a glamping experience, it is a warm, dry, insulated wooden cabin with a comfortable bed and lovely views. Be prepared to wander through the garden to kitchen and w.c. Umbrella and torch provided. Wifi available in the kitchen cabin, not in the Cosy Cabin itself. Experience the exquisite night-time quiet of the countryside, awaken to the soothing cooing of woodpigeons and the country sounds of rooster 'Jenkins' and his flock of happy hens. Lounge in the garden as Red Kites soar overhead and, in season, snack on organic produce, especially our sweet organic grapes from the polytunnel. Look up at the milkyway sketched across the night sky and inhale sweet clean air. The cabin accommodates 2 people, it has its own solar power supply, its south-east facing big windows provide beautiful views of the surroundings. The bed is a comfortable double and there's a fold out table and chairs and an outdoor picnic table. BREAKFAST: A basket of breakfast goodies will be provided for you to dine at your leisure. A 30 meter stroll through the garden brings you to the kitchen and a wc/shower room which are housed in a separate cabin. You are welcome to cook in the communal kitchen and make teas and coffee (provided) whenever you please. The kitchen has a small fridge, two hot plates and pots and pans. You'll be sharing the kitchen with other guests, you also have the option to eat in your cabin or at your private picnic table. We have a garden Chimenea and you are welcome to light a fire there. But we ask you to bring your own fuel, a bag of logs or bale of briquettes and fire-lighters.
"There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet" Stroll from the house to the beautiful Avondale Arboretum with the Avonmore river flowing down from the Wicklow National Park to the Meeting-of-the-Waters made famous by Thomas Moore's song. A twenty minute drive will bring you to the golden sands of Brittas bay or the stunning beauty of Glendalough. Rathdrum nestles in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains and offers direct access to all the beauty "The Garden of Ireland" has to offer. The Wicklow Way & Lugnaquilla mountain are some of the nearby hiking highlights. The Clara Lara Funpark and Greenane Maze and Farm Museum are great for kids. And not to forget the beautiful Avondale Forest Park just a 15min walk from your cabin, the riverwalk there is simply stunning. Have a look at our other listing so you can book for a whole family.
  • We loved this place! If you’re looking for an extraordinary accommodation, definitely book a night or two with Fiona and Edwin. The breakfast was amazing and so caringly prepared (with fresh eggs from their own hens!). We stayed in the smaller of the two cabins (indeed a “cozy cabin”) which was perfect and brought us back to the basics. You don’t need WiFi to go to sleep and it’s much nicer to wake up to the wind blowing through the bushes than cars speeding past your window!

  • I’m astonished as the landowners are so dedicated in each detail. We loved everything! It's a great place to rest. We had a memorable moment there! Thanks!

  • Edwin & Fiona’s Cozy cabin was one of the highlights of our trip!! The bed was incredibly comfortable and we kept wishing we could go back!

    Korbyn2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Located in a beautiful part of Wicklow, this cosy cabin is great for a getaway. We stayed in the smaller cabin, but it was very spacious for two people. Getting breakfast in the morning is a lovely touch, especially the fresh eggs. Edwin and Fiona are very kind people too.

  • You need to spend at least three days here to even begin to explore all special places in this “Garden of Ireland “. Selena’s place is the perfect location with so many attractions within easy reach. We were warmly welcomed by Selena and her family. These peoples are kind and earthy with that genuine Irish instinct for hospitality. Stephen

  • This is one of the cuties places we stayed in Ireland. You really get a feel for the countrysides of Ireland. When we arrived, Tara had a fire going and the bed warmers already turned on. Everything about our stay was wonderful.

  • You will not be disappointed if you stay here. Such a cute cottage away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Location was close to many hiking trails and the scenery was amazing! You’ll miss out if you don’t book with Selena!!!

    Charsie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The farm of Selena and Alex is a perfect place to switch off, warm up next to the warm oven in rainy weather and go on great trips. All animals are very tame and trusting - you are greeted with love and get your money's worth when cuddling. The fields are what you would imagine Ireland to be, and even in February there were cute lambs. The equipment leaves nothing to be desired - you can borrow shoes on site to explore the farm. Communication works great - that's why it can be recommended without any restrictions!

    Irina2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Selena was great about communicating and had the cutest little cottage room for us to stay in. Fire was nice, but we had such cold days and being out all day it was a bit hard to keep it as warm as we would’ve liked. Although Selena kept heated blankets on the beds and lots of wood to stock up the fire so we managed just fine once we got it up and roaring! We definitely had a good time exploring Wicklow, hiking, and having a can of Guinness while hanging out by the fire at night. Definitely worth the experience if you want to enjoy the real farmland of Ireland. (I really loved feeding the chickens and ducks) :)

    Allison2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for “rustic”, as I was, this is the perfect place for you.

    Kam2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing opportunity! A chance to really work on a farm was a dream for this city girl. The cottage was very comfortable and quiet. Lots of places right on the farm to walk and explore. Hosts were great and offered lots of info regarding the area and things to do.

    Denise2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • SpringFarm is a beautiful and idyllic working farm which considering being located in the rural Irish countryside is only a 10 minute drive from the nearest motorway. The accommodation itself is a 3 roomed traditional cottage with a bedroom, bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen/dinning room which hosts an amazing little log burner fire. Awaiting you is an information book pertaining to the farm and things to do and see in the area as well as pans, cutlery and condiments. The hosts Alex and Selena are absolutely brilliant; despite leaving you to come and go and explore as you please they are always happy to help and assist in any way they can. We felt very comfortable and at home here we did also have some car issues whilst we were over here and they literally bent over backwards to do everything they could to help us out. No areas of the farm were off limits we had a lot of fun venturing through the surrounding fields taking in the breathtaking countryside and meeting all the animals along the way. Long story short this is a fantastic little place to stay for anybody who is looking to enjoy and explore the true countryside. Thank you so much for having us we are very much hoping to come out and stay with you again soon 😁

    Nicole2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great sheep farm experience with welcoming hosts. The fire was lit when we arrived and there was a great atmosphere in the cottage. All the amenities we needed were there, and we felt very lucky to see the buildings and livestock of a working farm. Way better than a clinical hotel stay. A highlight for us was a tasty cooked breakfast which included black pudding, fresh duck eggs and bacon with the hosts in the farmhouse kitchen. Already missed Selena and Alex’ conversaion while we drove away. Highly recommend this place.

  • Tom’s place is clean and tidy, it has a comfortable layout with everything you need for a couple to stay. We brought our dogs and it was great to see them made welcome also. The fire was lit for us when we arrived which was cosy. The kitchen has lots of bits and pieces in it rather than being bare of food and everything we needed was there. Tom was friendly, made sure we had what we needed and was happy to talk to us about finding things to do.

  • Fantastic cottage in a really nice setting. Really close to a lot of amazing sites in Wicklow, we really enjoyed hiking Glendalough and walking Brittas Bay beach. Facilities in the cottage are great, perfect for cooking a meal and relaxing in front of the fire for the evening. Loads of really helpful tips of sites to see in the area. We really enjoyed our stay here, as did our dog who spent most of the evenings running around with the dogs who live there. We will be definitely be back.

    Christopher2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tom's place was ideal - great facilities, lovely setting and Tom was really helpful and friendly. Tom and Elli's guidebook of local tips was particularly helpful. Both of us and our dog had a fab weekend and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again for any future Wicklow adventures.

  • The place is so cozy. It has all that you need for a relax vacation with your pets. I love how Tom let his doggo welcome us as he was not home to greet us when we checked in. Despite the weather we had a lovely stay at Tom's place. Thanks for lighting the fireplace for us. We for sure will choose Tom's place again. Highly recommend!

    Tuyet2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Tom’s lovely cottage for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s nice and cosy with a wood stove which really warms the place up, and it has everything you need in the kitchen plus a good sized bedroom and loft area. Tom has thoughtfully left some very helpful local tips on walking trails, local pubs etc, and he’s only too happy to share local knowledge with you. This is the perfect place to base yourselves and explore the beautiful Wicklow mountains area. We hope to be back one day!

    Mitch2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

Set on the outskirts of the Wicklow Mountains, this spacious 3 bed property with landscaped garden, is ideally suited to walkers and holiday makers alike. It is the perfect place from which to explore this beautiful part of Ireland: Dublin, Glendalough, the Wicklow Way , Stately Homes, Beaches ( 8 miles drive) Waterfalls and Clara Lara water park (seasonal). The house is 5 min walk to the town centre (with restaurant / pubs serving food) ,and 15 min. walk to the mainline station (Dublin).
The house is set in its own grounds with easy parking
In the immediate area there are beautiful woods and river walks, including Avondale, once the home of Charles Stewart Parnell. The town centre has been used as a film location ( Michael Collins / Love divided ) Town facilities include Parnell Park, the quirky Cartoon Pub, two churches, four pubs- one of which serves excellent food, Bates top class restaurant , a supermarket and, don’t forget a visit to the coffee shop – once the coffin shed!
  • The house was perfect. A large Irish house in the countryside. Restaurants and pu nearby. A supermarket for shopping. We had rented a car and were able to walk around the county. A wonderful area and very nice people. ++ for Christina who took care of the accommodation and was very responsive. I highly recommend. A real bowl of fresh air

  • Charming house with a very pretty garden. We were 5 and all delighted with the comfort of amenities and bedding. The village of Rathdrum is very relaxing and located 20 minutes from Glendalough and its beautiful views of the Wicklow Mountains. The finishing touch: the pretty Rathdrum Cartoon Inn, which was full even on Sunday nights! In short, perfect experience.

  • Jame’s cottage far exceeded our expectations. Communication was excellent and check in a breeze. The location was brilliant, within easy walking distance to the village. The place was sparkling clean and incredibly spacious. Warm and cosy with all the amenities you could wish for. If your looking for a great property and value for money you cannot go past this gem in Rathdrum!

  • Very clean and tidy. The living spaces and master bedroom are very spacious and comfortable. All the extra bathrooms with showers and a bath made our stay extra comfortable. The laundry machines are good - they are outside in a separate little shed, just next to the house. Highly recommend! We wish we had planned to stay longer because we were so comfortable.

  • We had a great time at James' house. It's very spacious, well equipped and very clean. The communication with James was superb, he always replied very swiftly. A supermarket, takeaway restaurants and a few pubs are present in walking distance. For us, it was perfect with a short trip to the Wicklow Mountains to hike and a short trip to Wicklow to see the sea. Definitely recommendable!

The most appealing aspect of the cabin is the views. Situated on 4 acres it will give you a space, but you will not be far from wild and farm animals.. The Happy place Cabin was designed and built by local craftsman to enhance the peaceful surroundings. The cabin has to offer a large bedroom (double bed), brand new Shower-room, all linen and towels included, please note that its takes 25 minutes for water to heat between showers. The heart of the cabin is definitely in the kitchen-living area, it's high ceiling, white walls and wooden beams, wood burning stove make it the ideal place to relax and enjoy. There is a sofa bed in the room which sleeps 2 children comfortably .Bedroom opening onto a deck with stunning views of Wickow hills.. Perfect place to sit back in the the evening sunshine with a lovely cup of tea and a book. There's outdoor seating dotted around the garden and the pond, aimed to encourage guest's enjoyment of watching the Red kites soar in the air, or simply to enjoy the beautiful colors of the gardens. Breakfast basket filled with fresh eggs from our hens, traditional brown soda bread, butter and home made jams from our fruit garden and milk. There is a basic kitchen with Tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge and cooking facilities 4 electric hobs, oven, toaster , microwave , dishwasher pots and pans. There is a secluded rustic outdoor barbecue area beside the stream for the guests to enjoy, please bring your own charcoal. A car is a must to make the most of our local amenities. The roads surrounding the Lodge are narrow & wild with greenery, hence we don't recommend walking the the local areas. Check-in from 2 pm Check-out before 12pm. Please let us know your estimated arrival time, if you can. Please check prices as we do have some special deals or last minute price drops. We are happy to see children around but their will have to be supervised at all the time as there is deep fish pond and the stream close to the cabin.

  • Our stay at Heather's was only for the night but Heather was happily waiting for us when we arrived. (We had gotten in late after going out to the restaurant she recommended for dinner, which was just gorgeous!) She had everything we needed for our stay; tea and coffee, and snacks in the bedroom and an amazing shower! We felt very relaxed and had a lovely breakfast of fresh bread and spreads, and cereal. Everything was great, we couldn't say a bad word about the place!

  • We spent one night at Heather and Nigel's. We were wonderfully well received. Room and bathroom clean. The bathroom is shared. On request from us and with participation, Heather prepared our picnic the next day, picked us up at the place of our choice and we were able to be re-presented the next day by Nigel. Very full breakfast with amazing homemade cookies :) I highly recommend !

  • Thanks so much Tara, we really enjoyed the stay. It really is a lovely barn conversion, super clean and beautiful scenery around. The only very minor thing would be the heaters in the main room working on arrival but once we got them firing, it was all good. Thanks so much for hosting.

    Gerard2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tara’s place was the perfect base for our weekend away in Wicklow! It was an easy drive to many popular places like Gelndalough, Avoca, Bray and Greystones. The cottage was beautifully situated, well furnished and very cosy for our winter stay. The kitchen had everything we needed for the time we were there. Tara was very helpful in her communication about our stay and was very accomodating. I would highly recommend Tara’s place to any couple looking for a weekend retreat in the Wicklow countryside!

    Laura2020-02-16T00:00:00Z

    Emma2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely air bnb. Location was gorgeous. The property itself was set inside a courtyard so was private and quiet. A lovely cosy space. Tara had the heating on and the fire lighting for us on arrival, which was very much appreciated on a cold, wet day! Would recommend a stay here.

    Aoife2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • An oasis of calm and tranquility, we could not recommend Taras place higher for someone looking for a few days away to recharge or to explore the beautiful surroundings of Wicklow. So relaxing! The accommodation is well renovated, laid out and so welcoming. When we arrived in the evening on New Years Eve, Tara had some lights on, the fire lit and a Christmas tree up which was lit up and it was so welcoming! Also, the electric blanket was on on the bed, a cosy and warm surprise. As a host, Tara was wonderful. Any queries we had, she responded super fast and was so helpful, 10 out of 10!

Safety blinds in each room. Plenty of towels provided and shampoo and shower gel. Kids loved the books and board games also. Highly recommend for families.

  • I cannot recommend this stay enough. Incredible location, beautiful scenery, immaculate amenities. Clare also provided wonderful touches with local guide information, signs around the place and it was show room condition when we arrived. The photos do not do it justice, it's impossible to capture how great the rooms, kitchen and bathrooms are. Don't hesitate to book here! Book as soon as you can and for as long as you can!

  • Amazing stay, the location is ideal if you're looking for a quiet place. Wake up in the morning staring at the horses. The place was very clean and to a very good standard. We stayed with my wife and son and had plenty of space to enjoy staying indoors on these long rainy days. The place is warm and cozy. Clare is very responsive and super helpful. There is everything you'll need to cook. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore the Wicklow area, it's also not far from Dublin, and only 5 km to the motorway that connects Dublin to Wexford.

    David2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • A Gem! Located on a horse farm in the country; quiet, clean, comfortable and new/modern amenities. Clare is a lovely host who brought us fresh eggs and we particularly connected with her equine lifestyle. Don't miss this if you prefer peace and quiet in the Irish countryside.

    Donna2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Clare’s space is top notch. Everything is modern, clean and comfortable. A lovely touch was waking up and seeing some of their beautiful horses in the fields each morning. The fresh eggs were delicious, and the bread, milk and butter was much appreciated. We loved using the space as a base for exploring the east coast, especially in and around the Wicklow mountains. I wish we had more time to spend there.

  • I bought a team here to help them agree on behaviors they want to live for 2020 and actions they want to accomplish. We couldn't have asked for a better place. They came as a team and left feeling like a family. Helen and Dave were amazing. Running a yoga class for us and even pointing us in the direction of a beautiful waterfall in Glendalough. I'll definitely be coming back in the future.

  • Just returned from a very memorable family reunion at Avondale Retreat..we we looking for a large house not too far from Dublin as a few of us were flying in for the weekend..it’s about 1 hr drive from the airport but you feel a million miles away from the city. Difficult to describe how special this house feels..even though the pictures are lovely it’s even better in reality.. Gorgeous open-space room for brekkie and dinner together with the sun shining in..a fully equipped kitchen (we brought all our food and drinks for the w-end), another cosier space to have wine and chats by the fire with lots of snug blankets and cushions around. All the bedrooms are lovely and spacious.. Beautiful country area to go for a nice walk/run and treat yourself to a sauna in the house afterwards! It was the exactly type of relaxed atmosphere, space and location we were looking for! Highly recommended by our family ..I’m now looking for an excuse to go back!!

  • If you are planning any kind of trip with 15+ people, with a focus on comfort, space, nature, peace and ease, then you must book with Helen in Rathdrum. 17 of us had more than enough space (with beds to spare!) and wanted for nothing. The yoga studio was our absolute favourite but the cool decking area outside with the giant swing was the perfect surprise. Even little things, like the ample amount of ice in the freezer and the incredible selection of teas and fruit, really made us feel so well looked after. We adored the slippers rule of the house and lived in the ones provided by the front door. We made great use of the incredible space and most of the guests with me have asked me to pass on the link to the house so they can plan their next big group trip there. Thank you so much Helen, one of the easiest and most fantastic Airbnb experiences of my life!

The Loft at Avonbeg House is a Cosy and tranquil 19th century Cottage for 2-4 persons situated in the farmyard of Avonbeg house , once part of Charles Stuart Parnell's Avondale estate in the rolling Wicklow Hills 3km's outside Rathdrum. The Loft is a real nest with log stove and open living area. Sleep in a romantic double-bed under the original timber beams and there's room for two more people in the couch in the living area. The loft is 15mins from Glendalough and 50mins from Dublin
Peaceful and relaxing haven in nature but close to all of Wicklow's great amenities. One dog is allowed in the loft only but there is a charge of €10 per night for your pet payable at the property on arrival.
Local pubs with lively country village in Rathdrum, Markets and restaurants/Pubs in Aughrim and Macreddin, Hiking in Glendalough and Wicklow Way and Brittas Bay 15 mins away.
  • Had a great stay in this beautiful old converted barn loft. Located in a very peaceful part of the country, but only 15mins away from Glendalough, Wicklow Town, Arklow, & Avoca. Rathdrum is nearest town. A 5min drive will bring you to where the local shops, restaurants and bars are. Alternatively we walked 15mins to the local pub in the village of Ballinaclash. Grocery shop one side of the counter, pub the other. A must! All downhill on the way to the pub. Uphill on the way home. The loft has all the amenities required. Hot water in a powerful shower, and the place was roasting once we lit the stove. It was nice not having a TV. Would recommend this place to anybody looking for a peaceful retreat. Secluded, but still not too far away from civilisation.

  • Leah's place is beautiful! You could not find a cottage with more charm. The property is also gorgeous just to hike around and explore. Leah was very helpful with giving us directions and connecting us with cab companies. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Great find! Well equipped but not cluttered. You could definately come on a retreat here to soak in some country air. Great comms and host allowed us to check out later on which really helped. There is no TV and for me this is a bug positive. Instead we lit the log burner poured a few drinks and played cards! Thanks for having us

  • A lovely cottage. Perfect for a couple for a weekend. Of note the ladder was quite rickety which is worth considering when booking. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were excellent. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • Leah was such an amazing host. Sad it was only a short stay, because the location and cottage was very magical. Love the donkeys, the roaming cats, and my chicken friend. Thank you for the wonderful stay, Lewis and Be.

Set high in the Wicklow Mountains on the edge of the National Park, Far Pavilion is a romantic studio space with panoramic views overlooking Glenmalure, the longest glacial valley in Ireland. This is a wonderful place to unwind and relax, to watch how the light falls on the landscape or stare at the unpolluted starry sky and then, refreshed, to explore and meet the unexpected.
The Space The accommodation is a handcrafted log-style studio, open plan with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table, living space, sleeping area and separate bathroom (shower and bath). Guests can lie in the king size bed and gaze at the mountain on the opposite side of the valley. Heating is from infrared wall panels fitted with thermostat and timer. Guest Access Far Pavilion is adjacent to the host's house but entirely separate and guests have full private access apart from, maybe, a nosy horse, daring deer at dusk and dawn, a fox or an Irish hare if you are lucky and occasionally a herd of marauding wild goats! A car is essential and the cabin is approached up a rough track from the steep tarmacked laneway off the Greenane to Glenmalure road. Parking outside. Outdoor shoes/boots a must. Binoculars a good idea.
The area is renowned for hill-walking. The Wicklow Way passes by the Glenmalure Lodge: the hub of the community and local pub with its friendly welcome, good food and great atmosphere. Glendalough with its monastic site and lake is 15 mins by car. Rathdrum (7km) has a supermarket, Post Office and train station. Wooded walks in Avondale Forest Park, Clara Vale & Deputy's Pass. On the coast, Wicklow Town and Arklow are each 30/35 mins drive with the fabulous sandy beach of Brittas Bay in between. Wicklow Gaol, Avoca Handweavers & Mill, Greenane Maze, Mount Usher Gardens and Kilmacurragh are popular too with many more interesting places to explore within easy reach. At certain times of the year, the treat that is Bosca Beatha, the mobile sauna on the banks of the Avonbeg river in the field below the Glenmalure Lodge, is quite an experience with the brave plunging into the river afterwards followed by a restorative pint in the pub!
  • This property is unbelievable. Stylish, cosy and fully equipped. Amazing views, waking up to the mountains and wandering sheep was so cool :) Anne was very attentive, easy to contact and helpful. Would 100% recommend this property to explore Wicklow 😃

    Jessica2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. The cabin is cosy and modern and has everything you need and Anne provided some nice supplies for us. Views were amazing. Would definitely come back

  • The Far Pavillion is just magical! Such a wonderful little retreat and Anne really has thought of everything! There's loads of fantastic little touches and the design and amenities are fab. We booked our stay on the same weekend as Storm Ciara and we saw all 4 seasons in one wknd, we were treated to a blanket of snow on our last morning, the scenery is stunning! The cabin is so comfy, cozy and welcoming, we loved it! Thank you, Anne!

    Collette2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • What's not to love about Far Pavilion! It is exactly as described and better in reality. Such a unique setting with beautiful views and easy access to the Wicklow mountains. Our host Anne was an excellent communicator, went above and beyond with hospitality leaving breakfast bits, wine and snacks for us as well as offering us local walking tips at our request. We really had to tear ourselves away at the end of our trip. Highly recommend!

    Emma2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful experience in this brand new retreat. We were warmly welcomed in a very comfy and well designed place. The Far Pavillion is perfectly located if you want to discover the Wicklow Mountains area or simply relax.

A quiet cottage nestled in the Wicklow mountains,
Our neighborhood is quiet so this accommodation is not subtitle for party's.
  • Jean was such a great hist and made our stay extra special with the small details. Great location for day excursions to the Wicklow area.

    Troy2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely stay, the house is better than what is shown in the pictures. Jean and her husband are a lovely couple, really good people. We had a small problem with the heater, but is was solved really fast. Everything is super clean, and well taken care, she also left us breakfast for the morning. Will definitely come back in the future!

    Laís2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice independent house with complete equipment, one feel just like home. Jean is a very kind and helpful host. We strongly recommend.

    Bruno2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable, spotlessly clean and perfectly located home-away-from-home. Comfy bed, excellent water pressure in the shower, and plenty of space for a couple to stretch out. Excellent small kitchen including stove/oven. Located down the cutest country lanes, this is a great base from which to explore Wicklow County (Glendalough etc). Jean and family are hospitable and available elsewhere on the property, but scrupulously unobtrusive. The added touch of breakfast items was lovely and made for an authentic experience. Thank you Jean!

    Amy2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jean and her husband welcomed us with a lot of kindness, and a lovely touch of attention: something to eat breakfast! Their accommodation is very well located for exploring this beautiful corner of Ireland, including Glendalough and the Wicklows Mountains. We really enjoyed these two days spent in this region, thank you again to Jean for his welcome! I recommend!

    Hélène2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jean's place is a lovely self-contained apartment adjacent (but detached) to her house. Jean and her partner are lovely warm-hearted people and we were glad to learn that they use the money from the airbnb to help raise foster children. The place is cosy, but spacious enough to relax. It's very clean and modern. We do a lot of our own cooking and the kitchen is a good one for that. There's also a cloth washing machine which was invaluable for that point in our trip. Jean adds several little touches including some irish soda bread upon arrival...nice! Location is great for Glendalough, but you'll definitely want a car. Also take little walk up their road in the evening – there are some spectacular views... Definitely would recommend. As one other reviewer mentioned, the space is perhaps a little nicer than the photos convey...

    Hari Karam2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts with a very warm welcome and a nice home! We stayed with Jean with our 1.5 year old son for 2 nights. We were received very nicely, were allowed to use the private garden with fantastic views, swing, slide and trampoline and had in Jack, the little dog, a nice playmate for our son. The small apartment was as expected. Everything was clean and for our son there were toys, books, high chair and travel cot. We felt very well, thank you!

    Laura2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jean and Oliver are fantastic hosts. The property is set amidst the "Gardens of Ireland" with beautiful surroundings. Especially recommended for families, as the two are very fond of children and we were always allowed to use their garden (including swing and trampoline). Thanks for that Jean!

just 50 minutes from Dublin airport, 15 minutes from Glendalough & Brittas Bay Beach, 5 minutes from Tinakilly house & Mount Usher Gardens, 2 minutes from Kilmacurragh National Botanic Garden, with Deputies Pass, Carrik Mountain and Avondale House there is more than enough to keep our guest busy. Car is neccessary as we are in a very small village, with very limited public transport, taxis are available from wicklow town but advance booking would be needed.
My home is spacious/airy, I pride myself on high hygiene standards. my kitchen is available to my guest, with all mod cons. Thereis outdoor patio seating for either an early fresh coffee / yoga or a late night glass of wine, star gazing is amazing on a clear night. There is a fenced playground suitable for any under 10 year old guests. with swings/climbing frame (supervision required..)
My home is set in a beautiful rural setting, with limited noise/light pollution, with instant access to the M11/N11 I a perfectly located to meet any guests holiday requirments.

  • Sheena's place is as described. It's away from the main town but not that away. I loved your house and she and her partner is amazing. Got good tips for the area. Overall loved the stay....

    Apurva2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely place to stay, close to many of the touristy things in Wicklow co. Sheena was a wonderful host when I arrived they were having a family get together and I was offered to join them for food and drinks which I thought was very lovely of them to invite a stranger to their party. The place was very clean, quiet and close to many amenities (by car). I very much enjoyed my time there.

    Emily2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • It was the quietest night ever. No noise disturbs the night's sleep. The place is a good starting point to eat in Wicklow, for example, or to hike in the mountains, what we did. Sheena is friendly in touch and always gives good tips. The price-performance ratio fits well you can recommend the place well.

  • Great place to stay! Bernie and his wife are really nice, and we got yummy scones for breakfast which were well appreciated since we're vegetarians that don't eat eggs (other than in baked goods occasionally), so it was nice to have something other than just oatmeal for breakfast!

  • We loved staying at Bernie’s place. She and her husband Vincent were very friendly and talkative, and we learned a lot about Ireland and the Glendalough area by visiting with them. The breakfast of homemade fresh scones, cereals, yogurt, coffee, tea and fruit was plentiful, delicious and filling. Bernie also treated us with freshly baked apple cake the day of our arrival. Bernie and Vincent were the perfect hosts! Our lovely bedroom had its own private bathroom with plentiful hot water. We enjoyed our time at Bernie’s greatly and highly recommend a stay with her.

With views over the valley, "Ananda" has its own woodland and stream and is perfectly situated for guests to explore beautiful places such as Avondale Forest Park, Glendalough, Glenmalure and Avoca. Stunning Brittas Bay is only 20 minutes away by car.
Prior to August 2018 we offered guest accommodation in our family home "Whitebeam". However, we have just renovated a separate building close to the house as a new guesthouse. "Ananda", which is the Tibetan word for "bliss", is self-catering and completely separate from the original cottage which dates back to 1905. It boasts a luxurious sleigh bed for your comfort and has both electric heating and a wood-fired stove. The whole property is on a three acre site, two thirds of which is covered by mature woodland. A year-round stream flows through the trees. Drinking water comes from our own well. "Whitebeam" is home to three friendly dogs and our resident hens and geese who supply us with delicious organic eggs. There are two beehives situated in a secluded spot, well away from the house. We do not use herbicides or pesticides on our land, so please excuse the occasional weed!! We are fortunate to have buzzards and red kites overhead most days. We are also visited by many other species of bird including sparrowhawk, tree-creeper, goldfinch, bullfinch and Ireland's smallest bird, the goldcrest. The most recent species to be identified here is the Greater Spotted Woodpecker. This bird is still relatively rare in Ireland, only breeding here since 2006.
Visitors really are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful scenic places to visit, for example the valley and lakes of Glendalough are less than 20 minutes drive away. The famous Avoca Handweavers offering delicious food and gifts is in the nearby village of Avoca.
  • Loved every second of staying here! John welcomed us in person, showed us around, and gave us delicious homemade bread and flapjacks (along with jam, organic eggs, and butter). The garden is beautiful. Everything is super close with a car, and this is an excellent location if you want to explore the nature of Wicklow. John also gave us a binder full of local tips and must-visit forests, restaurants, and more. Can't wait to be back again! :)

  • A very cosy and welcoming retreat in wonderful Wicklow countryside. The guest house has all you'll need, and some thoughtful extra touches too. Do take the time to explore John and Madeleine's garden - its magical. Lots to see and do nearby. We recommend The Grainstore restaurant in Aughrim for a fabulous meal.

  • Wonderful relaxing stay in a great location. John's advice and local knowledge was very helpful, and the fresh eggs and bread were particularly thoughtful.

  • Beautiful cosy gem nestled in the Wicklow countryside. Stylish space with everything catered for. John's brown bread and flapjacks are amazing and a lovely touch. Explore the woodland path at the rear of the garden and get a cuddle from the resident canines if you are so inclined! A perfect place to chill out and relax, would highly recommend.

    Miriam2019-07-14T00:00:00Z

  • We can definitely recommend Madeleines and Johns cozy accommodation. We were warmly welcomed and were surprised as our expectations were exceeded. The property is located close to the sea (20 minutes) and the beautiful Glendalough in Wicklow National Park. Ideally located. the small house is fully equipped and was spotless! John and Madeleine bake organic bread and organic biscuits that really tasted great. In addition, you will find fresh eggs, butter, milk, jam, delicious espresso. So everything you need for a great breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, as in the hotel. Overall, 10 out of 10, we would like to come back.
