  • What a lovely place to stay! Elaine's home is beautiful, comfortable, and I was made to feel very welcomed and to make myself at home. I think that this was the best night's sleep I've had in many, many years. And the homemade bread at breakfast...wow!

    Colm2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Elaine was amazing. Elaine is very hospitable and accommodating, a lovely person. We lacked nothing. There is a living room that is fully available with everything your heart desires, from an open fire (which Elaine lit every night) to a bottle of wine. Breakfast was simple, but tasty and plentiful. A fridge, kettle and microwave are available. As well as the food. The bedrooms are nice and big and very lovingly decorated! On our departure, Elaine sent us on the way with many tips in our interests (which she had selected by listening carefully), fruit and congratulations. A boxer lives with her, a very nice dog, who is only allowed to enter the guest area on request.

    Penny2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine's home is absolutely fabulous, such a beautiful place! The house is so quirky with endless personality. Elaine has so many personal touches and thought put into hosting. She was excellent at communicating even though my booking was last minute. I arrived to a very warm welcome and a beautiful log fire. The room was gorgeous with the most comfortable bed! Elaine even put on the electric blanket for me! She had also left out little sweets and chocolates which was lovely. The property is just off the motorway, making a great stop-off point. The area is so peaceful and tranquil however, that it would make a great place to stay a little longer. Although it's rural, the proximity to the motorway and the fact it's in the midlands makes it a great base for travelling around Ireland. Best of all was Elaine's hospitality. I had such a lovely evening chatting with Elaine and another guest by the fire with her fabulous dog, Drake. It really was a lovely experience!

On the day of my arrival Declan met me in his house very kindly, and showed me the whole house, he had left me milk in the refrigerator, he gave me some welcome gifts, he really made me feel at home. They are really very good hosts, I will return home, I totally recommend them!

  • If you’re looking for an authentic Irish experience you’ve found the right place ! Elaine is the perfect host, she is very responsive and gives lots of attention to her guests. She also gave me advices on what to do for the rest of my trip.

  • Staying with Elaine was an absolute delight and I cannot even begin to describe how utterly fantastic and incredible both Elaine and her house are. Staying with Elaine was easily one of the best parts of my 10 days in Ireland. I decided to come to Ireland on a last minute whim after breaking up with my partner in Paris. I had no plans coming in to the country. After a few nights in Dublin I rented a car and decided I would drive around and see the country. The universe must have been on my side (for once) because somehow I ended up finding Elaine's listing and booking for a night (which then quickly got extended into 3 once I realised how amazing Elaine is and how well located her house is). I will forever remember and be grateful for the three days I spent with Elaine. She was exactly what I needed after a breakup. She fed me and took care of me. I never wanted to leave. Elaine offered me her incredible company and helped structure the rest of my trip. I look forward to coming back sometime in the future and staying with her again! I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Elaine for a few days. You won't regret it. You'll come a stranger and leave a friend.

  • I had such a great time with Elaine that I extended my stay.

  • If you love a touch of country lifestyle or you want to experience the real Ireland then this is for you. A perfect place to relax, read a book by the fire, take a short trip to nearby areas. The property, is located in the pristine rolling green hills of the Irish countryside. This gem of a host is going to treat you. She has an immense wealth of local knowledge and can give you a lot of helpful information to do with the area. Elaine is a warm and friendly host whose hospitality truly went above and beyond when I wasn’t able to procure a hire car over the Christmas period. She generously took me to several out of the way locations to explore and was able to give me some very local experiences unique to the area. Elaine is a very thoughtful host and prepares wonderful home cooked hearty fare. Upon arrival she had left some nice touches in the bedroom to make the stay more comfortable. She has some lovely pets so if you are an animal lover then you will love to meet the two cats and dogs that live on the property. I went in a stranger and truly feel I can out as a friend. Can’t recommend more and will definitely back!

  • Lovely home and great conversation even though we only spoke for a short while . Room was very cosy and bed so comfortable. Thanks Elaine

  • Very highly recommended if you looking for a traditional Irish farm house to stay in which is welcoming, peaceful, relaxing, homely with an open fire as you enter. Home made traditional fresh Wheaton bread, local fresh honey served on China and a super Freindly great boxer called drake this is perfect place for you to stay. Elaine is a wealth of knowledge of the local history, folklore with no shortage of interesting local places to visit. To summarise this short review a hidden gem.

  • You will get a great welcome at Elaines fabulous & full of charm Farmhouse.

  • Elaine was better than a host. She made us feel like family even to the point of giving me her physio appointment, as I had accidentally damaged my foot. Not only that, but we had gone over to Ireland to try and trace my family background and she cracked it. Amazing amazing or what. Marks out of 10. 12. You won’t be disappointed GO & ENJOY 🍀👍🏻🙏🏻❤️

At Brennan's Cottages, we have self catering holiday cottages in Laois which are pet friendly and ideal for exploring the countryside. It is a tranquil, rural county famous for the unspoiled Slieve Bloom mountains (great for angling, golf and horse riding) but there is also the Donaghmore Famine Workhouse Museum and Irish Fly Fishing + Game Museum. It equals the perfect getaway in the heart of the country for all the family or a quiet retreat to relax and unwind with nature.
Four Poster King Size Bed, ideal for honeymoons and romantic getaways.
  • Lovely quiet and quaint cottage. Bed was perfect and cottage facilities great - had everything we needed. Will definitely be back again. Margaret was an excellent host looking after everything with quick responses.

  • Mag is a phenomenal host! We really enjoyed our stay. Very peaceful and quiet, perfect place to relax and enjoy the Irish countryside. Our dog Iris loved it too! Highly recommend for a couple or single travelers.

  • Perfect for a romantic getaway! It is small, but it has everything you need to spend a wonderful time in a realistic Irish cottage. Especially the nice evenings with tea and Guinness in front of the fireplace are extraordinary special. Margaret is a superb host, she is super friendly and helpful and she makes you feel welcome. She offered a lot of tips on what we could do in the area. It was a great experience and we totally would like to come back.

    Miriam2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent get away from it all cottage, a stove to warm the nights, a wee kitchen to cook a meal for two, a four poster bed... All conveniently located in beautiful gentle green countryside. Margaret is a superb host, very friendly and helpful with great local recommendations and knowledge - A wonderful rustic retreat.

    John2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place just as described. Friendly host who left us a bottle of wine and stuff for our breakfast on the first morning there. It’s out in the country but that’s exactly what we wanted. Overall great experience staying here!

    Wayne2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was fantastic!!!! The cottage is so great and we have nothing missing. Margaret was super friendly and helpful, although on the day of our arrival, she herself was in great stress. We did not find out until later and she did not let us know. We could always ask for advice and tips, and were never disappointed. The small and large cows in the immediate vicinity, were for us an additional i point. Simply fantastic. Too bad that one week passed so fast. We would like to have stayed longer.

  • My husband and I loved this adorable cottage. It was our favorite accomodation during our stay in Ireland. This private cottage offered the peacefulness of a rural setting while also being just 10 minutes from the town with plenty of amenities. The cottage is also ideally located to hop to nearby cities like Dublin and Cork. Highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a country setting while still being close to most major cities.

This studio apartment is the pride and joy of Bridie and Martin...a retired couple who have embraced Airbnb with great enthusiasm! The amazing reviews given by the guests speak for themselves! Cullahill is surrounded by wonderful Irish countryside and has several public walkways from leisurely rambles to challenging treks up the nearby hills. It’s a 5 min drive from Castle Durrow (popular wedding destination) and has every comfort imaginable for a fantastic stay. All welcome 😁

  • Myself and my partner had a wedding in Castle Durrow and we were lucky enough to find this charming place close by. Breeda and Martin could not have been more welcoming and had the apartment stocked with beautiful brown brown and breakfast essentials...it was ideal. Really lovely and I would highly recommend it to anyone hoping to stay in the area.

  • It was a pleasure to stay here, communication was excellent prior. On arrival I was welcomed, and they had a fire lit for me, which was a delight—as I’m a wedding photographer; and was shooting a wedding the next day. The place was super clean, and comfortable. Plenty of food and herbal teas also! It went over and beyond my anticipation. Thanks again

    Jason2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Breeda and Martin's place was cozy and felt like home! We were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful view.

    Liza2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This might be my favourite Airbnb, the apt itself makes you feel right at home, the view is magnificent and the "breakfast" will make you think you're in "Hansel and Gretel".

    Simon2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby in Castle Durrow. We arrived to a lovely cosy log fire, a fully stocked kitchen and fridge (enough to feed an army!) freshly baked bread and chocolate brownies! The bed was very comfy and there were plenty of clean towels. Honestly it was a fantastic stay and Martin even gave us a lift to Castle Durrow. Such lovely hosts and 5 star hospitality. Thanks so much

    Erica2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • 5 stars all round. This place is ideal for those who are attending a wedding in Castle Durrow. 5 minutes down the road in the next village. Super stay , possibly the best Airbnb we have stayed at for the price and what was available. Upon arrival on a bitter winter's day,the stove was lit. The presses were full with a huge variety of food. The place was spotless and the bed was tremendously comfortable! Cannot fault the accommodation and the two top host's.

    Alan2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Breeda & Martin's home. We were soo pleasantly surprised with their welcome & how cosy, clean & well stocked the Airbnb was. We will certainly be back, and as hosts ourselves, we been shown how to go the extra mile with our own Airbnb - so thank you for that aswell. Next time we'll make sure we have time to make you a cup of tea! Thanks again for your hospitality & thoughtfulness, the best Airbnb stay we've had to date!

Situated in picturesque North Kilkenny, one mile from the village of Gathabawn. Located just off the M8, halfway between Cork and Dublin. Within 25 mins of medieval Kilkenny City. The Rock of Cashel and Thurles are also within 30 mins. A number of walking trails in the surrounding area.
  • We had a really restful time in Margaret's cottage. She had the place set up for us when we arrived, fire lit and milk and butter in the fridge. The house has plenty of space for one or two couples. It's a great place for a quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle, it feels like stepping back in time. The bedroom we used was comfy and we slept very well. The kitchen is also well stocked for cooking. One improvement could be a water filter in the kitchen - the water is fine to drink, but has some grit in it. Great value for money overall. The house is in quite a secluded area driving distance to plenty of walks, other villages like Durrow and the town of Kilkenny. We walked down to the pub Mackeys which took about 20 mins and had a good atmosphere on New Year's Eve. Make sure you bring your supplies and just enjoy settling in in front of the cosy fire!

  • Margaret was a great host. She offered to light the stove for us for our arrival which I think was very nice. The cottage is super cute, cosy, warm and comfy. If you're into nature you will definitely like it as the views are very pretty.

200 year old traditional one storey farmhouse. Renovated to retain as many original features as possible while incorporating contemporary essentials (like a bathroom for instance!!). Majestic ancient beech trees shelter the house. Ideal spot for nature lovers or guests who appreciate a bit of peace and quiet. Guests comment on the comfort of the bed! I consider my home to be relaxed and comfortable. I do NOT live in suburbia. It s a 20/25 minute drive to Kilkenny, 7 minutes to Drrow and about 5 minutes to local supermarket. Please believe me when I say that my home is not suitable for you if you intend to trip the light fantastic in clubs etc as my home is located n the middle of the countryside - so please don't blame me if you are disappointed at the rural nature of the setting! Durrow has a few places to eat - Castle Durrow (open Wednesday to Sunday) Bowes (daytime only), Ashebrook House (weekends only) and The Castle Arms Hotel (open morning noon and night!) This area is a great base for people who want to explore the South East (Carlow, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford & Kilkenny). It is also perfect for anyone attending a wedding at Castle Durrow. There are also beautiful woodland walks in durrow.

  • Marie’s place is just a small paradise perfectly located in Kilkenny County. Thank you again for your amazing taste & hospitality.

    Sophie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy accommodation tucked away in the countryside. Marie is a great friendly host. We booked last minute but she responded very quickly. Directions via the app were spot on

    David2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a little gem! Marie’s cottage is amazing and she is the best host! Would go again in a heart beat!

    Manon2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay, Marie waited until we arrived to explain everything. Its accommodation is very nice and cottage style decoration gives it all its charm! In addition the kitchen area is very well equipped!

    Tania2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place if you need somewhere handy, Marie was more than hospitable and made things so easy... even dropped us where we needed to go the next morning 😃

    Tony2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best bed and breakfast I have ever been. The apartment is fully independ from the host house. It has all equipment you need to spend your night and be ready for your trip. What strike me at first was the beauty of the place and all touches of attention Marie put inside this apartment. It is very cosy. I really felt like being at home. Breakfast can be taken inside the apartment: you can use what Marie put inside the fridge and let inside cupboards (there are a lot of things: jam, cheese, butter, juices, milk, bread, cereals...). You can go there without any hesitation.

    Michaël2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute place and Marie was so welcoming and helpful!

    Jolene2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Marie’s cottage is a wonderful stay. The interior looks even cuter in person and it’s very impressive that the house is over 200 years old and she’s restored it to such a nice condition. That being said, it’s a country cottage. You may find a few crawly friends hiding in the upper corners. But, Marie does a lovely job keeping the bathrooms, bed linens, and such clean. She also left juices and snacks in the fridge. It’s in the middle of nowhere. No WiFi service. But this was nice for us for a chance to disconnect. The cottage is closest to Durrow, but after leaving I would recommend going just a smidge further to Ballyragget for a late dinner if needed. We stayed here on a pass-through to Kilkenny and would do so again if needed!

One of the oldest unspoilt traditional thatched cottages on the rental market in the whole of Ireland. Staying here is like stepping back in time with a little modern twist. A real romantic get away from it all, cosy little cottage.
The cottage is very comfortable and cosy. Very quirky, having two stair cases, half doors front and back, two lofted bedrooms, and a 250 year old cast iron Victorian Range in the Kitchen area which is fully functional. Fire her up and she will not only heat the cottage but you can cook on her as well. Other forms of heating comes in the form of an Everhot range (like a mini Aga) which is used for cooking as well and in the sitting area there is a Optimyst woodburner effect fire place for instant heat! Although the cottage is old to say the least it has all modern facilities such as firdge and freezer, flat screen tv, waching machine, microwave, kettle and toaster, toilet and shower. Guests can make use of the PAY AS YOU GO WI FI dongle. Please contact me on robinsonjohn@live.co .uk if you wish to use wi fi and I will set it up for you.
The Cottage is set right in the heart of the Irish Midlands so having easy access to Dublin 1 hour 20mins, the wonderful ancient city of Kilkenny which is about 40 mins. The historic town of Abbeyleix is but a 10 min drive. Fishing, walking in the Sleive Bloom Mountains just 20 mins away, pony riding, bog walking, ancient castles and traditional irish pubs. Swimming pools and Cinema just a 15 min drive. Or simply stay at the cottage and relax and nip in to the village pub for a little socialising. Don't forget to bring your dog, we welcome your pet here at High Nelly cottage.
  • Overall excellent. Absolutely lovely cottage. Would recommend to others.

    James2019-09-18T00:00:00Z

    Jessie2019-08-16T00:00:00Z

  • such a cosy wee place for a getaway, we adored our time here. Louise gave great tips on walking in the area too so highly recommend asking for her advice on local hang outs and excursions.

  • Very nice rural cottage with lovely homely touches in a lovely village

    Patrick2019-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great cottage, quiet, out of the way... expect to be in rural countryside with plenty of nice places to walk. The nearest town is about 10 minutes drive from the cottage. Great communication with the host... she gets back to you quickly. WiFi is a little difficult to figure out but cell services works well there. The heating is more than adequate. The shower is not terrific... leave it on “eco” mode and you’ll have the best results. The oven system is one I have never experienced but it is easy enough to figure out with the notes left in the cottage. Sleeps 3 very comfortably... 4 if you don’t mind sharing the double bed. Very clean and it was a nice touch to be able to watch local television (especially in Gaelic). The local pub is nice and the folks in there are good for conversation. Quintessential Irish country cottage. Expect to drive to anything you want to see... it is remote and I don’t know that there is public transportation nearby. Don’t let the proximity to the road worry you... it wasn’t a problem at all. Watch your head going in... 5 feet high. We are very tall and the interior is very spacious. We didn’t have any problems. We would gladly stay here again.

    Chris2019-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Louise's cottage was just what we hoped for for our stay in Ireland. It was all we could have asked for. The cute, coziness of the thachett cottage was the experience that we were looking for in Ireland during winter. Louise, although not there to welcome us was always on hand if needed or to suggest places and the cottage was just spotless. I will be recommending this stay to anyone. 10 out of 10 experience.

  • We had a wonderful stay in he big house. The place was spotless and Marc was a wonderful host. The area is quiet and perfect to get away from it all. Would definitely stay again!

    Carly2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • If we could give this accomodation 6 stars we would. Marc was absolutely lovely and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcomed (he even left us two beers in the fridge for our arrival and breakfast for each morning in the form of little cereal packets which was a nice touch). The house was quite large with a massive bed, bedroom and lounge room which were all very comfortable. The kitchen was also very well equipped with everything we needed. It was only a 10 minute drive to the nearest shop as well. Definitely recommend staying here - we stayed for 7 nights and still didn't want to leave! Cheers Marc!

    Melanie2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Marc has a wonderful house in a superb area. Definitely, one of the best experiences I had with Airbnb. On top of this, Marc and his dog Freddy were excellent hosts.

    Núria2018-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Marc's apartment is a treasure. It is very comfortable and well equipped for longer stays. The location is ideal for getting away from town life, but is within an easy drive to shopping, restaurants and pubs. It is very quiet and the nearest neighbors are cows and sheep. It is a great place to watch how agriculture is practiced in central Ireland. Marc is an attentive host and takes care of any issues immediately, but respects your privacy. The apartment has everything needed for a very relaxing stay.

  • This was one of our favorites stops on our 5 week holiday. We traveled from Marc's place each day and were able to see so many of the beautiful places in Ireland. If you want to stay in and relax this is the perfect location also. There are beautiful views of the countryside from the upstairs living area. The place has every convenience and is very spacious. We visited Darrow for a meal on the Sunday night and there was a carvery, music and a dance on for the locals. It was great to see all the locals doing some top tapping!!

    Carmel2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute beautiful location in the countryside. This was by far the cleanest place I've ever stayed. The cottage is even nicer than the pictures show on airbnb. I'd recommend Marc' s place to anyone, and would definitely stay there again. It's centrally located in Ireland, if you don't mind driving a little. We visited sights from the coast east, South cpast, and, west coast...all day trips. Nothing was more than a 2 1/2 hour drive. I couldn't be more satisfied.

  • Rose Cottage is a nice place in a very quiet location with all the basic amenities you'll need on site. The heating system warms up very quickly which is great because it's quite damp and chilly at times. Ann is very quick with responding to questions and Peggy is accomodating and warm also. Overall a nice experience. Thank you both!

    Rahmo2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, rustic place with everything we needed. All the baby equipment was very useful so we didn't have to bring our own. There isn't much in the area so you do need a car. Good amount of space for 2 adults and a baby. There is a dog which greeted us most of the time but it never entered the Air BnB. Great if you love dogs but we had to be cautious because of our little baby. Check in was very easy too.

    Jenny2019-07-30T00:00:00Z

We stayed for a week and have spent a great deal of time over the last few months in Airbnbs due to a extremely long property purchase.. we've been in a LOT... and would say this was the most comfortable place we gave stayed and best sleep as it actually was a King size bed which normally you dont get even if advertised.

  • We needed a place to stay on very short notice and thankfully we found Angela's house. It's a little bit out of the way, but that of course is part of the place's charm. Clean, tidy and well-stocked. We had a very comfortable stay.

We are off the beaten track in a rural setting with views of Cullahill Mountain and with plenty of space and activities for children to play; Steam Sauna, 40ft long natural swimming pool (great health benefits), outdoor fire pit and barbecue, Treehouse and Bar.. We grow our own food and try to minimise our footprint with regard to waste. We are close to Historic Durrow Castle and Country House, Stradbally (Electric Picnic), Kilkenny City, Abbeyleix, Rock of Cashel and Portlaoise.
An original place to stay..This is a working painting studio and is based upon the one I used to have in the mountains of the Berner Oberland, in Switzerland and has just been newly renovated. If you wish to experience something unique, then this is for you. It has a full size double bed, sofa-bed, living seating/viewing area, small kitchen and lots of natural light and views towards Cullahill Mountain. It is Entirely made of wood and has original Swiss doors leading out onto your own private porch. The new Norwegian wooden extension, now provides a separate bathroom, sauna and kitchen with washing machine and is only a 10 second walk away. We provide bottles of drinking water. A torch is also provided for late nights.
Beautiful rural setting, with farmland as far as the eye can see, rolling hills and views of Cullahill Mountain and surrounding forests and almost no light pollution. A retreat from city life.

  • The house was fantastic. It was a large and beautiful property with lovely views. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless and spacious. The shower was hot and powerful and the bed was very comfortable. Located in a rural area meant driving/cabs/buses were a must. Hosts had great knowledge of local area for food, drink and transport options. We were welcomed with a lovely breakfast in the morning which was a pleasant surprise. Tea, coffee and biscuits always available. Clean towels and hairdryer were provided without asking. A truly memorable stay and perfect if looking to play some golf or hike the slieve bloom mountains. Marie and Ciara went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and make our stay one to remember. We will come back! Thank you!

  • Thank you to the lovely Marie and Ciara for a fab stay in their beautiful home in Castletown. I needed somewhere comfortable to stay while I was completing a course in Mountrath. I was made to feel right at home from my arrival cup of tea and chat with Marie. I had two perfect nights’ sleep in my en-suite room, Marie also had breakfast set up and ready for me each morning before she headed out for work. All in all I would highly recommend a stay here, if I am ever visiting the area again I will definitely stay with Marie and Ciara again.

  • Our stay at Ciara's place was much too short - we got there in the evening and had to leave for Dublin early the next morning - but we greatly appreciated the beautiful house and Ciara's hospitality. Everything was clean, comfortable, well thought-through; Ciara cooked us breakfast in the morning and made sure we lacked nothing. I wish we had more time to relax and get to know the area - next time, perhaps!

Property is double glazed throughout and fully insulated. Ample parking close to Johnstown and 20 minutes from the medieval city of Kilkenny. Easy access to the M7/8 motorways. Commanding position and wonderful views.
Eirke House built in 1794 has a long history. The Georgian property as been refurbished to a very high standard after being purchased derelict in 2005. It is situated in a prominent position just west of Johnstown village. The accommodation is nicely situated with easy access to Kilkenny & Cork/Limerick/Dublin via M7/8 motorways and has great views of The Slieve Bloom & Slivenamon mountains. Quite and peaceful location for a relaxing stay.

Rathdowney Tuohys pub is one of the quaintest pubs around with live music most nights and close by. 16th century tower castle with a Victorian farmhouse attached. Steeped in history, this wonderful property provides a private and tranquil space perfect for a family gathering or creative retreat.
Experience the medieval ambience mixed with that of a cosy Irish farmhouse. The property has a large safe garden enclosed by the original complete bawn wall. Set back from the road and surrounded by its own beautiful farm land with expansive views of the surrounding countryside. Interesting historic features intact including sheela na gig, arrow slits and original stone turret staircase. Delicious DIY breakfast supplied. Full central heating and two open fireplaces for lovely roaring log fires. Find us on Facebook for the latest pictures and events taking place at the castle!
Beautiful rural setting within the undulating hills of north County Kilkenny. Our castle is between the Medieval city of Kilkenny and magnificent Rock of Cashel. Conveniently located just 4 miles from the M8 motorway, roughly half way between Dublin and Cork. Twenty five minute drive to Kilkenny city, renowned for its historical buildings, excellent shopping and a huge variety of pubs, restaurants and festivals. Wonderful base for touring the area, with plenty of opportunity for walking and country pursuits. Beautiful looped walks locally and close to Freshford Village which has everything you could need.
  • The castle is beautiful and authentic, the communication is easy, the stay was really perfect.

  • Stayed in clomantagh with a few friends. Definitely one of our most memorable experiences. Everything went smoothly and communication with our Phyllida was excellent. Would highly recommend.

  • Very unique accommodation hosted by a very friendly & facilitating host. Kids & adults alike will enjoy the experience.

  • We thought this would be a perfect midway point between Killarney and Dublin on our way back to the airport, and indeed, it was perfect. It’s not as isolated as you might think - there are towns nearby for food, etc. but it is isolated enough to feel like you’re enjoying the countryside. Lots to explore on the grounds including an old church and graveyard. The living space is just as shown - takes you back a few hundred years but with all the modern amenities. So, so wonderful! Highly recommend it.

    Kerri2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • How very special to stay in an Irish castle that has stayed within the one family for so long! Everything was beautiful and we felt very spoilt. So much space and everything we needed. No TV which was actually a lovely break for us all. We would love to come back here one day!

    Emma2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Clomontagh Castle is unique in the best way, I think it's my favourite AirBnB ever! As we pulled up the driveway and saw crows were circling the top of the castle tower, we had no idea what to expect inside... and it was a wonderful surprise. When we walked into the cozy, mismatched and warm kitchen (with a lovely Rayburn range heating the room) and found fresh flowers and a loaf of homemade brown bread on the table, we felt really welcome. The castle / farmhouse has all the modern conveniences you might need, but in a truly unique setting. Every room is different and felt full of history, especially the longest bath I've ever seen and the amazing four poster bed in the castle tower itself! We loved exploring it all, and for every old and slightly shabby part, there was a thoughtful touch to make us really comfortable, such as the electric blankets on every bed and spotlessly clean bedding and towels. We joked about it being a place that might even have a few ghosts, but if it does they are definitely the benevolent kind, as by the end of the weekend we all felt so relaxed and peaceful. We loved our stay, and hope to come back again soon. Thank you Phyllida!

  • Noel's cottage is one of the best airbnb stays we have made. The cottage is well equipped, warm and well placed to visit Durrow and the surrounding villages that are filled with history and its secrets. Noel and Aisling even took the time to warn us of some weather that came our way during our stay. We were sad that we had to leave. I strongly recommend a stay at the cottage.

Greenville Cottage is an art filled home, with history, warmth, atmosphere. The sounds of birds and nature are all around, and proximity to the Devil's Bit Mountain and other nice walking areas is a bonus. Your hostess has a deep interest in the arts and history and is close by if guests need help planning their trip. Denise's artisan breads are part of the welcome. An ideal place to get away from it all and yet central for visiting cities like Kilkenny, Limerick, Cork, Dublin as day trips.
Greenville Cottage is part of my home, a stone built thatched cottage dating back to the early 1840s. It was built by my Great Great Great Grand Father Martin Maher. His brother James also resided at the property, in the part where I reside with my husband and three children. James and his family emigrated in the late 1840s, to the United States, settling in Greenville Ohio. The Cottage Accommodates four guests, having two bedrooms, the Parlour Bedroom and the Loft Bedroom, and one bathroom, as well as a small but functional kitchen and the living/dining room we call "The Aula" . In the past year we had to do necessary renovations on the cottage and are very grateful to the Heritage grant that facilitated the re-thatching of the back roof. Guests can enjoy looking at the beauty of this craftsmanship while eating in the Orchard Garden, snugly situated at the rear of the house, and available to our guests. The house has many examples of art, mostly by local artists, photographers and crafts people, who are our friends, which guests can enjoy, and the interior design of the cottage is of an exceptional high standard.
The area is rural, situated near the Devil's Bit Mountain. There is a lovely town park in Templemore town, with a lake which is ideal for picnics and walking. You will be close to the Rock of Cashel, Birr, Kilkenny city and many other places of historical importance in midlands Ireland. Guests can also take slightly longer day trips to Dublin, Cork, Kerry and still return home to the comfort of Greenville Cottage at night.
  • This is a very special, unique, creative, welcoming and warm place. Denise went above and beyond with her hospitality and helpful info about the region. The space was extremely comfortable, with many sweet touches, like the fire in the stove each evening. The welcome package of local treats was so delicious. Denise's bread is addictive! It was a privilege to stay in this family home. thanks to Denise and Joseph for their thoughtful kindness. Highly recommend.

    Catherine2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Greenville Cottage is a classic bit of Ireland. Set outside of Templemore, this lovingly restored cottage reflects the best of this area. It is exceptionally reasonable, comfortable, and adorable!

  • Greenville Cottage provides an authentic Irish stay in the beautiful county of Tipperary. A great locale for exploring all that is on offer in Templemore and beyond. The name “Meagher” means kindly and hospitable, which is exactly how you’ll find Denise and Joe. We were greeted with local fare and homemade artisan bread, a comfortable bed and a lovingly restored cottage showcasing local artists works and other interesting artefacts. We look forward to returning to this beautiful county in the future.

    Jeff2018-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Denise and Joe offer a lovely quiet setting in an old family cottage that’s been restored. It’s a cozy cottage on a quiet lane, with a peat burning stove to warm up a chilly evening. The cottage is comfortable, relaxing, and provides all a traveler needs. Denise welcomes guests with wonderful homemade bread. The cottage is a short drive to the Devil’s Bit, and Rock of Cashal as well as other sights in the interior of Ireland. I would certainly recommend travelers to Ireland visit Denise’s B&B.

    Kathy2018-09-19T00:00:00Z

    Fionn2018-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Laura keeps an absolutely lovely home. She was such a welcoming supportive host. A fry up in the morning even! We were there for a wedding at Durrow Castle and all the extras she did for us really made our experience shine. She does hair, so was happy to loan me some hair pins when I forgot mine. She drove us to town so I wouldn't wear out my feet before the dancing. She suggested a stop by Bob's Bar, which I highly recommend (you could give Lennon's a miss!). The only thing I would comment on is that the room is in a loft. I might have known this when booking, but forgot by the time we arrived. Therefore your first floor "room" is open to the ground floor landing, although Laura keeps doors to the landing closed at all times, it does remove some of the privacy. We did not find this as issue at all, its just a point to note. An absolute lovely, charming host, I would definitely stay again.

The Front garden is the Guests area, and is a secure area, except for the calves looking in over the wall ! The house is surrounded by working farms, so activities vary according to the Seasons. There will occasionally be farm noises and smells which are part of living in a Rural Community. This home has pets, A Boxer dog and cat. They will not be in your part of the house, unless you invite them in, and if you do, be prepared to be loved unconditionally by them!!! Unfortunately we cannot accept guests pets. You are welcome to arrive from 4pm ( with drop off of luggage welcome any time), and feel free to relax till 11am . The only smoke welcome in the house is turf and wood smoke, all others will be put outside! The house is down a private driveway and is over 1/2 km from the road and village of Killasmeestia. So "walking distance" is a personal choice!! Parking is free and secure. Bedrooms have their own keys for added security. There is WIFI and TV, in the Sitting Room. Signal can be erratic in other parts of the house due to the thick walls and location. Be prepared for the peace and serenity of the area to sooth and charm you. Guest Access Guests have a separate Entrance, which leads them to a Sitting Room on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 2 large bedrooms which can accommodate 2 guests in each room. There is a bathroom with a Shower and bath on this floor. Guests have a garden to use and can avail of Al Fresco dining if the weather permits.
Raheensheara, is a farm in the South West of Laois. It is surrounded by rolling farmland nestled between the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the North ( designated a World Heritage Site in 1986), and the Cullahill Mountains in the South. the area was originally known as Upper Ossory. The little village of Killasmeestia is at the top of the Driveway. The Local area is nestled between Rathdowney and Borris-in-Ossory. This is a real slice of Rural Ireland, with Donaghmore Museum just minutes away, and the Heritage Towns of Roscrea and Abbeyleix a short drive away. The Rock of Dunamase, Emo Court, Damer House, Timoney Standing Stones, The Devils Bit, Cullahill Castle, Grantstown Lake, Abbeyleix Bog Walk, GlenBarrow Waterfall, and The Ridge Of Cappard Walkway are all waiting to be explored near by. The Nearest pub, is The Green Roads and is about 3km away. There are a number of traditional pubs within a 10 minute drive, in Borris-in-Ossory, Rathdowney, Errill, Knock and Coolrain. A little further gets you to Durrow, Roscrea, Portlaoise, and Templemore. There are a number of lovely restaurants catering from a cup of coffee, an Irish breakfast to fine Dining very nearby. I would suggest Rosie O'Gradys (Borris-in-Ossory,) Roisin's Loft (Ballaghmore), Fiacri House (Knock) The Willow Tree (Rathdowney), Bowe's (Durrow), Durrow Castle (Durrow), and The Cotttage (Loughmore) and many many more..... Come and discover this little bit of the Beautiful Hidden Ireland.
  • What a great find. Elaine is such a great host and her home is beautiful. Sitting by the fire chatting made for a wonderful evening. My bed/room was really comfortable. And the breakfast. Such a nice touch. I’ll certainly be back again. Thanks Elaine.
