Places to stay in Poolewe
Traditional 19th century crofter's cottage in the village of Inverasdale overlooking Loch Ewe, refurbished to provide modern self-catering convenience whilst retaining its rustic character. Set within 6 acres of partially wooded croft land with access to the loch shore and panoramic views over the mountains of the Great Wilderness, Beinn Eighe & Sutherland. Huge sandy beaches are 5 minutes away by car and close to the famous North Coast 500 touring route. Children & pets welcome.
Coille Bheag is a six-acre working croft situated in Inverasdale, on the shores of Loch Ewe in the wild and beautiful landscape of Wester Ross, perfectly placed for exploring the hills and mountains of the Great Wilderness or the Torridons as well as our wild land and beautiful beaches. We are within the Wester Ross National Scenic Area and the Unesco Biosphere, 4 miles from the village of Poolewe and the NC500 tourist route. We enjoy beautiful views across the loch towards the mountains, including An Teallach; Beinn Eighe and the mountains at Ullapool and in Sutherland, and have direct access to the loch shore. The Cottage is a traditional 19th century stone-built Highland croft house, set up for self-catering and sleeping up to six people in two double bedrooms (one of which is on ground floor) plus one single bedroom with extra pull-out bed. (We can lend you a travel cot for babies if you let us know in advance, but bring your own baby bedding!) Children and pets are welcome, but we're sorry, the Cottage is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs. It commands beautiful panoramic views over Loch Ewe and the mountains and there is no street lighting for miles, so if you're a stargazer you'll see wonderful dark starry skies on a clear night. If you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! The cottage has its own garden area, a sun lounge, and ample parking. The living room has a compact Aga stove which burns coal or wood, set in the original old stone fireplace. We can supply you with fuel, which is included in the price you pay along with electricity. The room has satellite TV/radio and DVD/CD player as well as two small sofas and a coffee table. A range of books, DVDs & CDs is also available for you to enjoy. The bathroom is on the ground floor. The Cottage is great for a family holiday or a romantic getaway - and if you come for Christmas, we'll even throw in a real Christmas tree from our own managed wood.
This is a friendly traditional crofting village in a very rural environment. There's plenty of scope for outdoor activities - walking, swimming, cycling, climbing, fishing, wildlife watching or messing about in kayaks - but not much in terms of nightlife! We're very close to some wonderful beaches, some within walking distance, and we're conveniently placed for hillwalkers. There aren't many opportunities for formal dining, but there are plenty of pubs and cafes offering good food, some of which are open throughout the winter. There's a pub, shop, weekly market (not winter) and indoor heated swimming pool available in the local village of Poolewe (10 mins by car), and many more shops, pubs and takeaways in the larger village of Gairloch (20 minutes by car). Boat trips and day cruises are also available in Gairloch or the ferry port of Ullapool (90 minutes) or you can go kayaking on our loch with local company Ewe Canoe. If you're into history, there are two local museums nearby to visit - Gairloch Heritage Museum, and the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum in Aultbea. Keen gardeners can visit Poolewe's world-famous Inverewe Garden (10 minutes), there is a pony trekking centre at nearby Red Point, and golfers can enjoy "possibly the best wee golf course in Scotland" at Gairloch Golf Club by the beach.
  • We had such a good time on our weekend to the cottage. Such a calm space with lovely welcoming people and thoughtful touches to help us enjoy our stay. We were only sad we had to leave!

  • Alasdair is a very welcoming host. The cottage is a lovely old place with lots of character. Really cosy with the log burner. Loved the garden, we could walk down to the lock and explore the rockpools. Further up the road there is a beach you can visit. We had a little swim there too. And the views from the upstairs windows are amazing!!!

    Vanessa2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage to explore one of the best bits of the world. Everything you need and more thoughtful touches!

  • A perfectly formed original cottage in a trad, and slightly quirky, comfortable and cosy style. It's in the most amazing location for both quiet and active moods and enjoys ever changing light, colour and weather which affect the stunning views and landscape all around it. Alasdair and Clare were easygoing and helpful hosts. And their hens lay quality fresh eggs should you run out. Altogether a happy and memorable stay in a fantastic part of West Coast Scotland.

  • Lovely, quirky cottage with lots of character and incredible views. Helpful hosts and stunning beaches nearby which meant we enjoyed some fabulous winter walks! Struggled to find somewhere nearby for a "pub lunch" but imagine this wouldn't be such a problem in season. Great find!

    Jodie2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, comfy and well equipped, a great place to stay with stunning views.

    Martin2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place for winter break, we will need to come back in the summer! Thanks for a great Christmas

    Catriona2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was a pleasure to stay in, was very cosy, especially with the fire on and Alasdair and Kate were very accommodating (helped get our car out of a ditch, oops!). The views here are stunning and we spent a lot of time at the loch just staring out. Seeing all the stars was one of the best things I’ve ever seen and was definitely the highlight of my weekend. I’d definitely go back and recommend anyone looking for a relaxing time away to book this amazing place! Thanks again to you both.

    Joe2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious lodge set in an outstanding coastal location. It was my parent’s who stayed there as a present from myself and they spoke very highly of the entire trip. Would recommend.

    Kris2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a a wonderful stay. The place was spotless on arrival and I think the pictures of the inside do it a disservice. Much bigger and more open than I expected, fantastic space for the 4 of us! The location is beautiful too :)

    Jack2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing month at the cabin. So much to see and do in the local area with our dog, the ability to work from the cabin and amazing hikes and trips further afield too. Highly recommend this for a restful, peaceful stay to fully relax in the Highlands.

    Emily2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect Highland retreat - outstanding lodge, beautiful scenery and warm hosts. Our only disappointment was not being able to book for the same time next year as someone beat us to it!

The Bothy is a small converted barn with open plan living, ideal for adventures. Modern facilities, wood burning stove and large shower, in a light and comfortable space.
Rural village on the North Coast 500 route. 5 mins from Inverewe Garden. Ideal base for hill walkers, cyclists and touring.
  • Charming, comfy and cosy. Fantastic location too.

    Kate2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Bothy is a quiet and peaceful place with everything you need for your stay. A little shop just down the road provides anything else you may need. It is situated in an ideal location for exploring the area and was sparkling clean. We received a warm welcome from Dorothy as well as a roaring fire in the wood burner which made for a warm and cosy evening. Would definitely recommend.

    Cheryl2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent Bothy. Very cosy with the fire on

    Carol2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay in a cosy, clean and warm little cottage. Dorothy was pleasant and happy and available if needed. Everything that is needed was made available and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little cottage B&B for a lovely quiet stay.

    Ruth2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the Bothy and you will too. A very tasteful conversion with everything you need for your stay. Highland hospitality at its best and brilliantly situated in a postcard pretty village. An ideal base for touring this amazing part of the world. Stoer lighthouse is a must see, a lovely drive up to the Cove to the war memorial and chance meeting with a large heard of Highland cows. In Poolewe itself the village shop is well stocked and the pub does great food. Gairloch is close by and a lovely trip. Enjoy...we did!!

    Bev2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place as advertised and the wood stove going when we arrived was a welcoming touch! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Anna-Marie2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This accommodation was a lovely surprise, even though I had of course studied the description and photos. The building is cleverly restored. You can tell that was done a while ago, since some fixtures and fittings could use a bit of tlc, but that won't affect your stay much. What this accommodation has in abundance is coziness. When we arrived, the fire was burning and we felt so welcome and instantly, soothingly comfortable after a wet (but beautiful) day. We made ourselves a cup of tea, settled in the two chairs by the fire and felt very content. We very much appreciated the separate beds, close enough to feel together but nice to not feel everything the other person does. It's very quiet, and nice and dark at night. The kitchen has enough amenities to prepare your meals. Parking is right in front of the property. Its situation a bit off the road gives a nice secluded feel. One of those places you wish you had arrived earlier to be able to enjoy it a bit longer.

  • It’s a huge space in a really warm cozy house. Mairi is a lovely host and took care of us very well. We had a little struggle finding the place but I would blame google map. The breakfast is not included in the price but Mairi gave us enough food items to have in the morning which was like the breakfast for us. Highly recommended.

  • Overall good. The house is more difficult to find, the navigation can't find a specific location, call mairi, and then she comes out to take me to the house, breakfast is average, bread bought in the supermarket.

  • Aside from being in the village of Poolewe and not far (~5 miles) from Gairloch, this airbnb has many perks. The room we stayed in was spacious and sparkling clean. The TV, mini-fridge, sitting area, ensuite, and lovely garden view (with koi pond) all added to our pleasure. Superhost Mairi is super friendly and made us feel very welcome during our 2-night stay. Breakfast foods provided were plentiful, and we stretched them to last us for a while. We were sorry to leave!

Newly built, An Sealladh Studio is the perfect base to start your Wester Ross adventure. Read on.. An Sealladh Studio has been road tested by us for a year while we built our house, and frankly we were sorry to leave it. An Sealladh Studio is located above our detached garage next to the house, set within the croft. The good sized studio is bright and airy and has stunning views over Loch Ewe and the mountains.
The studio comprises an open plan kitchen/lounge/bedroom with separate wc/shower room and can comfortably accommodate up to 2 adults and 1 toddler—camping cot and highchair are available at no extra cost. In the kitchen area you will find plenty crockery, pots, a cooker, fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave. We have a washing machine in the garage, just ask if you wish to use it. The bed is an Ikea pull out bed daybed. Eco Initiatives Guests can learn about the practicalities of harnessing renewable energy from the Earth's natural environment. Water and geothermal energy are being utilized to ensure the house and studio carbon footprint is as minimal as possible.   We also have an electrical vehicle charger (7KW/3.4kw) which guests can use and will be charged at cost. We invite guests to actively participate in identifying, monitoring and photographing flora and fauna on the croft and in the locality and put any interesting observations in the Nature Diary which will help us build up a record of the biodiversity in the area.
There are numerous sandy beaches and plentiful walks which, combined with turquoise seas and ever changing light, make Wester Ross unforgettable. Rich in wildlife and steeped in history, Poolewe and the surrounding area will provide you with an abundance of things to see and do: From Archaeology to Geology and from adventurous activities, to sitting back and watching the world go by, we’re convinced there’s something for everyone. The house has been recently renovated to keep the original feel of the old croft house but now has added contemporary design and amenities - WiFi, chilled out lounge, dining room, big kitchen to eat and be merry, fabulous garden and 2 big bathrooms. The house faces south so it's light, airy and warm. We are only 100 metres from the coast and the NorthCoast500 - this is a paradise for cyclists, walkers, lovers of nature, climbers, water sports enthusiasts, artists, musicians and photographers....
The house is on two floors - bedrooms, landing, cupboard and bathroom with bath and shower on this floor whilst on the ground floor we have the dining room with seating for 6, lounge with our famous pallet sofa (!), large TV for evenings in, woodburning stove (new top of the range Yotul), big kitchen with space to prepare, cook and serve dinner. The kitchen gives access to the garden which wraps around the property and has a view up the glen....it'sa special place. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, and fridge with small freezer. Also coffee and tea pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc all provided to make your stay as easy and pleasant as possible!
There is so much to do and see in this part of Scotland. There's a great walk directly from the house to Loch Kernseary with spectacular views across to Torridon, Loch Maree and Slioch are a short distance away, Inverewe Gardens are a must, fishing trips and whale watching cruises are to be had from Gairloch Harbour. There are great cafes and restaurants in the area too - Poolewe hotel does simple but good quality food and The Bridge Cafe in the village is excellent for coffee and home bakes (Manu and Ana are from Galicia and give Poolewe a little Iberian charm!).
  • Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Spacious and nicely presented accommodation. Would definitely book again!!

  • Lovely place, so peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The accommodation was so clean, the neighbour Scott checked us in and gave some great tips. I could absolutely recommend this cottage, there is a ‘coffee box’ manned by Vincent just down the lane who makes great churros, and Inverewe gardens is just up the road. The cottage is very well equipped, has everything you need and we loved it! Great place, thanks again.

Unique, peaceful, loch-side accommodation on working croft on Loch Ewe's western shore. A comfy double bed, with a single bunk bed above, in Juliette's cosy shepherd's hut. A shower-room, kitchenette, dining and lounge areas are in the Hub nearby. Electric vehicle charging point. Set in Wester Ross National Scenic Area and Unesco Biosphere, 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Poolewe and NC500 route. Uninterrupted views over loch to An Teallach; Sutherland mountains and Beinn Eighe.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the top single bunk bed in Juliette's has a built-up side, so is suitable for children confident of climbing the sturdy ladder hooked to the side. THE CROFT We specialise in growing historical daffodil varieties, maintaining Plant Heritage's National Plant Collection of pre-1930 daffodils, so the croft is ablaze with white, gold and orange in April. Although we don't keep livestock, this is a three-and-a-half-acre working croft, and during the summer we're working flat-out lifting, cleaning and sorting out daffodil bulb orders for despatch. We have many commitments, so we're constantly chasing our tails, and we can't deny the croft looks messy -- especially after summer rain. Some of the land is peaty, rough grazing, but the inbye is bulb plots and grass and meadow flowers. The grass is kept long deliberately to encourage birds to feast on the seed (and to attract corncrake, which haven't found us yet), with paths mown through it. JULIETTE'S For your comfort, there is an electric panel heater in the hut and a choice of duvets of varying TOGs, plus fleecy throws and microwavable bedwarmers. There is bench seating and a table in the hut, and, for al fresco dining, a table fitted over part of the towing gear with cushions for the plat. THE HUB The lounge area of the Hub has a corner window seat, a comfy sofa, and a television with DVD slot and FreeSat box. A JVC radio plays tapes and CDs. The kitchenette has a coffee machine, toaster, kettle, induction hob, combination microwave and 'fridge, plus all the cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses you should need to rustle up a meal. Please ask if we've forgotten something. Teas, coffees, drinking chocolate, sugar and milk are provided. The dining area seats four comfortably. The Hub has convector heaters in both the main room and the shower-room. Toiletries, a hair dryer, feminine hygiene products and basic first aid items are provided -- please feel free to have a rake around in the cupboard beside the wash hand basin. Just ask if there's something else you need. An expanding heated clothes horse for wet clothes can be set up in the vestibule of the Hub.
The croft is an ideal base for outdoor activities: walking, (energetic) cycling, birdwatching, botanising, kayaking, swimming (wild or tame), climbing and photography. Sandy Firemore beach lies a couple of miles north of us, just beyond Inverasdale Primary School, now a volunteer-led tea room, open for delicious homemade bakery on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Further along the peninsula is the tiny, working harbour of Cove, and, at the end of the road, are dilapidated WWII gun emplacements and the Sasan, which commemorates the brave Royal Navy and merchant seamen who perished undertaking the "worst journey in the world" (Churchill). If you'd like to know more about the role Loch Ewe played in WWII, head along to the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum, beside the main road at Aultbea (10 miles/16 km away). To witness how this challenging environment has been tamed horticulturally, visit Inverewe Garden, a mile northeast of Poolewe, en route to Aultbea. During the summer, you can lunch at Aultbea village hall on a Thursday; visit the market at Poolewe village hall on a Tuesday, and dance to a ceilidh band there on Wednesday nights. On Friday evenings (5 to 7 p.m.), fish and chips are served from a caravan beside Poolewe camp-site. Poolewe Hotel serves evening meals in the bar and restaurant, and offers free WiFi. Bridge cafe in Poolewe is open until about 4 p.m. -- how about refuelling there after a swim in Poolewe's newly refurbished swimming pool? There are post offices and grocery stores in Poolewe, Aultbea and Laide -- the latter sells petrol and diesel too. Fishing and marine-wildlife-spotting trips operate out of Gairloch (10 miles/16 km to the southwest) and Badachro (beyond Gairloch). Gairloch has more facilities, including a bank A.T.M., public library, museum and 9-hole golf course. Booklets, leaflets and a fairly up-to-date copy of Yellow Pages, the local paper, will be left in the Hub, so you can keep abreast of what's available.
  • Duncan and Kate’s croft is in a stunning location on the western shore of Loch Ewe with views across the loch stretching from the mountains of Letterewe Forest all the way to Suilven in the north. The croft has access directly to the loch shore and it’s a fabulous location for bird and wildlife watching. During our stay, there were Great Northern Divers and wintering Slavonian Grebes on the loch and, if there hadn’t been so much else to do, I could have happily spent the entire time birdwatching from the croft. The sleeping accommodation is in a charming, cosy shepherd hut, with bathroom, kitchen and lounge facilities in a separate hut just a few yards away. Throughout our stay, we enjoyed flawless sunny days and brilliant clear night skies which, as it was the very end of October, meant that it was also very cold outside - there was snow on the mountains and a hard frost at night - but the hut and the hub were always warm and very comfortable. Everything we needed was provided, including breakfast food, beverages, snacks and even a welcome dram or two of whisky! There was also a well-stocked library of books in the hub, and both Duncan and Kate were happy to provide us with lots of helpful information about the area and local wildlife.

  • What an amazing place to stay. Loved the shepherds hut and the relaxation space of the hub was excellent

  • Duncan’s place was a dream. A place you would not normally stay but glad you did! Amazing views, welcoming family (Duncan, his wife and adorable dog), and a warm/cozy hut. It was a bit of a drive but well worth it. I recommend to any couple or person who want to make lasting and unique memories. Would stay again if we could on our trip! Thanks again!

    Rachel2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is marked very well by their very sweet wind turbine, with the hut in the lovely garden overlooking the Loch. The area is beautiful, the dog is adorable, the beds were warm and comfy. Whisky included. Cheers!

    Ralph2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was an awesome place! Right on the water with an amazing view of the moon and milky way at night and sunrise in the morning. Duncan and Kate put a lot of thought into the setup and made sure I felt at home and knew how everything worked. There was even a piece of cake Kate made, which was delicious. They are very sweet and their dog is so cute too. I had a great time talking to them and wish I had more time there

This is a beautiful residential caravan that has been clad with larch to give it a cabin effect and cool feel. This comes with all bed linen & towels. Fully functional kitchen with gas cooker. It also has a large decking area with outside seating area with amazing views of the Isle of Skye.
This Caravan is situated on a croft at the highest part of Gairloch giving stunning views. Very private location with only one neighbour this also a holiday rental called Bothan Buie.
The Caravan is very close to the village an easy walk down to the pub and a harder one home as is up hill all the way for 1 mile.
  • A fabulous find with amazing views out to the isle of sky. The caravan was immaculately clean with plenty of clean towels. It was late when we arrived and the lights and heating was put on for us, so a lovely thought. We were able to take our small do too and it was perfect for exploring the area. Great gas cooker and full size fridge freezer but little cooking utensils but we managed fine.

  • We stayed in Kirsty’s caravan for two nights in early January. We were looking for good value, comfortable accommodation for one of our regular trips to the area, and the caravan was perfect for our needs. It was clean, cosy and warm, and kitted out with everything we needed. The caravan is sited in a lovely, private location with views over Loch Gairloch, and it’s just a short walk from shops and a good pub.

  • What an amazing spot absolutely stunning the sunsets you'll get will be spectacular you can walk down to the village pub, cafe, it's windy but spot more than makes up for it I can't think of a better place in gairloch looking right over to the sea Kirsty and Scott were lovely and left us lots of goodies bread milk etc to many to list and we really appreciated it

    Paula2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy wee caravan with fantastic views and kirsty was a fantastic host.

    Andrew2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty's caravan is set in a wonderful location over looking Gairloch and the hills surrounding. Ten minutes walk down hill is 'down town' Gairloch with a great little coffee shop and bookshop, local corner shop and grocers just a little bit up the road. We had a fabulous few days here exploring the beaches and hills nearby with our kids. A great escape from our busy city lives! No hesitation whatsoever in recommending. A great spot to unwind and relax.

    Rachel2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location is good, the views are amazing. An ideal place to chill out for a day or so, not exactly luxury but it has everything you would need. Would recommend it and the hotel at the bottom of the road does very nice food.

  • The house: Clean, modern bathroom and shower room with underfloor heating. Comfortable bed linen and pillows. Bedroom and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, warm, and with welcoming decor. Bedroom had a bed, lamp, heater, side table, coat hooks, leaflets for local attractions, and a hairdryer. If you’re an animal lover - they have an adorable and friendly dog, some chickens, and a horse. Parking is just outside the house. The host: Guy was very helpful with directing us when we got lost, providing lots of useful local tips and maps, and offering cups of tea on arrival. His daughter was home too and they both gave us a warm welcome. Location: Not far from Gairloch at all. Inverasdale is a good stop if driving the NC500 or taking a coastal walking holiday. The house is in a fairly remote area (like most of the Highlands!) with only a handful of homes on the same road so it’s quiet. If you’re wanting a quick walk to the shop/pub/beach this isn’t the place, but it’s perfect for peace & quiet, and views over the highland. We wouldn’t hesitate to return if ever near the area again.

  • Guy and his family a very welcoming. After a short drive to the house, we were offered a tea, sat down at their table and talked a lot. Guy and his wife both were very interesting and interested people who could give as further information for our roadtrip. We only needed one of the bedrooms - but both were really fine. They are seperated from the rest of the house with a toilet and a bathtub adjacent to one room and another toilet with a shower adjacent to the other one. Very clean, absolutely nothing to complain, we'd come back any time. Thanks for a wonderful evening, night and morning!

  • We really enjoyed our night at Emma’s place. A lovely cozy space with great views, beautiful bathroom. The breakfast served in our room was absolutely outstanding. Emma and her husband were very friendly and gave us suggestions on where we could eat as well as places to see along the rest of our NC500. A really fabulous place, we would definitely stay here again if we’re in Strath. A really good experience.

  • The Old School House is beautiful, Emma is a wonderful host and makes you feel right at home in her home! Room 2 was our room and it has everything you need. Emma’s recommendation for tea and the next leg of our NC500 trip were amazing and really helped us out. I can’t recommend this place enough, so sad we couldn’t stay longer.

  • Emma welcomed us very warmly. The room was clean, very modern and comfortable at the same time. The size was quite enough and you could look through the window to the sea. The private bathroom was across the hall, which did not bother us. We were most thrilled with the breakfast, that was really a dream. We would like to have stayed longer!

Overlooking the river Ewe and mountains beyond, the house is situated in the heart of the village within walking distance of pub, local shop, post office and the world renowned Inverewe Garden. This listing is for our double ensuite. *** PLEASE NOTE THAT BECAUSE OF WORK COMMITMENTS WE CANNOT ALWAYS OFFER ACCESS TO THE PROPERTY DURING THE DAY ****. This doesn't seem to pose a problem as our guests want to be out and about taking advantage of the varied scenery and wildlife this beautiful area has to offer! This remote area offers an excellent opportunity to see some of the rarest wildlife in Scotland in its natural habitat. Golden Eagle, Sea Eagle and many other smaller birds ie. Crossbill and Siskin can be found in the area. A colony of Common Seals is resident in Loch Ewe and Grey Seals are also found near the mouth of the loch together with the Great Northern Diver! Otters forage all around the shores of the loch and up into the River Ewe. Pine Marten, Wild Cat, Red Deer and many other secretive creatures may be seen locally. The famous Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve is only 20 miles distant - here can be found some of the rarest flora, bird and insect life. Undoubtedly some of the best times to visit this beautiful part of Scotland is late spring and early summer (April/May) when our bird and wildlife is actively nesting/breeding and foliage is bursting on the trees and plants. Colours are fresh and the weather can often offer clear blue skies. Bird song is at its best and the night skies are just amazing!!. Late August and September shows off the purple of the heather-clad hillsides. But Winter too will show you these amazing landscapes with snow on the Mountain tops!! Come and enjoy this experience with us. With some of the most rugged mountains in Scotland the area is popular with hill walkers and also abounds with a variety of low level paths and trails. Beautiful beaches are within a few miles drive and regular boat trips from nearby Gairloch allow the opportunity to view whales, dolphins and seals. Poolewe stands at the head of Loch Ewe about half a mile from the world famous Inverewe Garden. It is one of the oldest settlements in the area as shown by the the recent discovery of a Pictish Stone in the old burial ground. During the 17th century Loch Maree was the main centre of iron production in Scotland. Poolewe was one of the first places in the country to have a blast furnace, but the felling of most of the woods around Loch Maree led to the decline of this industry. In the 18th century Poolewe was the main port serving the Outer Hebrides. Cattle and goods were sold at a large market (Feill Iudha or Ewe Market) held on the flat area behind the village. The Second World War saw Loch Ewe as an important naval base for convoys crossing the North Atlantic and sailing around Scandinavia to Murmansk. Today Poolewe is a flourishing community offering a good choice of tourist accommodation. The village is an ideal base for exploring the Western Highlands with excellent opportunities for rambling, hillwalking, climbing, birdwatching and observing natural history. The road towards Cove offers spectacular views across Loch Ewe to the Sutherland mountains far to the north, with a stunning panorama of some of the remotest mountains in Scotland behind Poolewe itself. Just beyond Inverasdale is Firemore with its superb sandy beach. The road ends at Cove where a cave can be found which was used as a church until the late 19th century. Extensive coastal defences were built at Cove during the Second World War to protect the convoys anchored in Loch Ewe. Their remains can be seen at the very end of the road. CN.C. 500. Route. We sit above the harbour, with beautiful views out over the 9 hole golf course looking over the sea to the Western Isles and Skye. Hopefully you'll see one of our stunning sunsets, and if you're up early you'll see the deer grazing the course rough.
OAKWOOD BED & BREAKFAST. We are the only house with views over the golf course and the sea. You are welcome to sit outside on the decking area and soak in the views and maybe watch some wildlife! We have a decent complimentary set of golf clubs to loan if guests fancy a round. There is a small fridge in your room should you wish to bring the odd bottle of wine or two. We provide wine glasses etc in rooms. Toiletries are provided along with towels and a hair dryer. There are also coffee and tea making facilities in your room. I serve a scrumptious breakfast of your choice, in your room so if you wish you can just stay in your pyjamas and relax. It's a 5 minutes walk to The Old Inn restaurant and pub. (great food) We have a lovely walk from our gate up over down to the harbour or down onto the stunning beach, it takes about 20 mins at a leisurely stroll.
We are a couple of minutes walk from a pub/restaurant (The Old Inn) which serves mouth watering food, including freshly caught Seafood. The harbour, again a short walk, where you can book the whale/Dolphin watch boat or the Glass Bottom boat or other sea trips. These can all be booked online before you visit if you wish, as they are very popular. There are also small motor boats to hire. There are many lovely walks in the area as challenging as you like and up into the hills. We are only 7 miles from the famous Inverewe Gardens. We have our own great, new wee museum in the village and the WW11 Artic Convoy museum is just 12 Miles away in Aultbea.

  • We had a nice one night stay. The check in was friendly. We were able to select what we wanted for breakfast from a menu the evening before and Susan bought it to our room in the morning - it was delicious. The bathroom is a very creative use of space and is therefore rather small but it doesn’t affect the functionality at all.

  • After a 16 day road trip around Scotland, I have to say that my stay at Emma's just might have been my favourite out of all accommodations! It was easy to find and I had the absolute warmest welcome from Emma who is the most gracious/kindest host! The room was stunning, with lovely personal touches, fresh milk for tea and just about anything else I could have needed! In the morning, Emma brought breakfast into the room so I could sit by the window overlooking the loch to eat it and it also might have been the BEST breakfast I had had during my journey in Scotland! Emma offered some great local advice for my next day of the road trip and the only thing that could have possibly made it better was to stay for more than one evening!!! I will be back! :)

Welcome to this colourful bungalow situated right on the shores of Loch Ewe, just metres away from the dramatic point at which the river enters the loch, with its own private entrance to the beach and gorgeous views across the loch to Inverewe Gardens and the mountains beyond. You will have your own double bedroom and access to a private dining room/lounge, whilst having shared use of my kitchen and bathroom. The dining room/lounge also has a spare single bed in case there are three of you.
You are welcome to use my kitchen to cook in, but have access to your own dining room/lounge which has games and books about the area. I'm afraid I only have one bathroom so we share that, it has both a shower and a bath.
Situated in the village with all the local amenities that provides, the bungalow itself has great views and its own garden heading to the beach, giving a wonderful sense of spaciousness and privacy. A fabulous cafe where all the food is locally sourced and homemade, a well-stocked shop, a post office, village hall with weekly market and ceilidhs in the summer, as well as a swimming pool, are all within a few minutes walk, not to mention the world famous Inverewe Gardens which are just on the other side of the bay.
  • If I had to underline something , it'd be her hospitality. The house is really nice and the room but enough for us. Dorje shares her kitchen and bathroom with the guests. It is situated in a stunning place with incredible beaches.

  • Very pleasant host and nice sitting area

  • This is a lovely Airbnb close to the water and close to the town’s hotel, which serves meals as an option. We did not have a chance to meet our host but she always communicated well.

  • Dorje is friendly and feels at home

  • We really liked it that we had our own space and also the different places (bathroom, kitchen, living room,...)! Everything was very clean! We enjoyed our stay and would come back if we are in the area.

My place is close to the beach, family-friendly activities, and nightlife. You’ll love my place because of the people, the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the neighbourhood. My place is good for couples, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
  • This is a fantastic cottage in Gairloch. Very homely, cosy and spacious. Has absolutely everything we needed for a week, could have stayed longer. A great location, we used it as a base for exploring the north west coastline, coming back to this wee place every night was so relaxing and comfortable. Totally recommend staying here, we hope to be back one day!

Shore Cottage offers beautiful accommodation for families or couples looking for a relaxing break in a spectacular coastal setting - directly beside the sea. The land belonging to the house stretches along an acre of coastline, but the immediate garden is fenced. From the house and garden, otters, porpoise, dolphin, seals and many seabirds are often seen.
Shore Cottage is a newly renovated house, completed in 2016. The well laid out open plan kitchen, dining and sitting rooms provide uninterrupted views of Loch Gairloch. There is an adjoining covered deck that allows you to enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather, and a cosy log-burning stove in the living room for colder days. Downstairs, a TV room allows relaxing evenings for all – no disagreements about what to watch! In addition, there is a comfortable twin bedroom and large shower room downstairs. Upstairs, there are 2 peaceful king size bedrooms with beautiful views over Loch Gairloch, and a large family bathroom.

From the house and garden otters, porpoises, dolphins, seals and many seabirds are regularly seen. Shore Cottage is set in both a beautiful and a convenient location. While being within short walking distance of sandy beaches, boat trips, shops, galleries, a golf course, pubs and cafés, it is also in a peaceful secluded area – the perfect spot for relaxing.
  • This is a beautiful house in an absolutely breath taking part of Scotland and Andrew was an excellent host. Nothing beats waking up to those views, even in the middle of winter. The house was perfect for a cosy winter break, the facilities were excellent and Gairloch has plenty of amenities. Highly recommend and would happily stay again

  • The house of Andrew and Linsey is located in a scenery of outstanding beauty with amazing views to the sea just a stone's through away and Harris & Lewis in the far distance. The house is thoughtfully laid out with a superb design tucked into an amazing garden with beautiful colors even in autumn. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Andrew's communication has always been spot on and so beneficial. And not to forget in an amazing real time! We loved to stay longer than just 8 nights and definitely wish to come back. Take care Gerhard

  • A beautiful home with everything you need. Stunning location with amazing views. Andrew keeps in touch throughout the booking process. I’d definitely go again

    Catherine2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • We should have stayed longer! Shore cottage is located in an outstanding place. We enjoyed the wood burning oven, a lot of space, best beds (slept so well!) and these stunning views from the living room of the sea. And we loved all those beautiful walks and hikes in this fantastic area (a lot of things to do and to see...) What else should you know when booking Shore Cottage? Just do it! In reality it looks even better than on the fotos: even more space, even more views. And you should stay longer than we did (it was only four days). Important but almost unnecessary to say: everything was clean and in a perfect condition and communication with Andrew was always quick and easy.

  • This is an amazing property in a stunning location. Shore Cottage has every amenity you could wish for and Gairloch is a charming village in the heart of a spectacular area of North West Scotland. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property - our only regret was that we did not book it for longer than 5 nights. We found it difficult to leave on the day of our departure!!

    Judith2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal location for this very comfortable house.

  • We left wanting to come back to this beautiful place. The house has stunning views wherever you sit, and it’s Scotland at its best. We have stayed in dozens of places and this one really impressed us. Outstanding!
