The cottage sits in the corner of the estate courtyard, the garden to the rear looks out across a private lake and deer park which is home to a variety of wildlife.

  • I had high hopes for the cottage but what met us what better than I could have imagined. We were met by our very polite host and made to feel very welcome. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything you're going to need for your stay. The hot tub was warm up on our arrival and the fire place was fully stocked ready to be lit. We're looking forward to our next visit.

    Amy2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hosts and amazing venue. The place was spotless and the team were most welcoming and there for us arriving. The venue was exactly what we were expecting and we enjoyed relaxing in the private garden in the hot tub each night under the stars with an incredible vue. The hot tub was spotless and already to go as we arrived. The accommodation is 5 star and the log burner in the bedroom really adds to the character and comfort that the property offers. Can't recommend enough! 5 star plus in my eyes!

HerdyView Lodge is situated in a peaceful location, overlooking rolling hills surrounded by nature on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is a cosy, modern 3 bedroom chalet with a log burner. Situated close to the market town of Penrith and Lake Ullswater it is in a perfect location for exploring the Lake District and the Eden Valley. Away from the tourist crowds but also within easy access to hotspots and amenities. There are attractions in the local area for all ages and interests.
HerdyView Lodge is a Scandinavian lodge based on a small, quiet residential site and is surrounded by local farming land on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is within easy access to the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Peninnes. Surrounded by local wildlife and plenty of walks. The lodge is well equipped for all self catering needs and comprises of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan lounge/kitchen. Guests are free to use the log burner and wood is provided for their first fire. The old traditional large windows at the front opens onto a decking area that overlooks fields in front (often occupied by Herdwick sheep). At the back of the lodge is a small garden with seating where a small BBQ and fire pit are also provided. Here also there is a small herb garden to use. There is space for two cars to park at the front of the property. There is always tea and coffee to use as well. The space is very peaceful and relaxing with herdwick sheep, rabbits, deer and cows regularly occupying the view. The lodge is convenient for the M6 north and south also.
The lodge is 5 minutes from the Market Town of Penrith and 5 minutes to Lake Ullswater. There are plenty of nice pubs, tearooms and restaurants nearby to enjoy. There is a pub within walking distance serving local ales and food. The nearest villages include Askham (an pretty village where Askham hall is located who have an award winning tea room and restaurant), Lowther (where you can explore Lowther Castle and Gardens), Tirril (the Queens Head pub here sells award winning pies). There is direct access to numerous walks/cycle routes in this surrounding area, Eden valley, Lowther land and the North Lake District fells. Lake Ullswater has many walks connected by the Ullswater steamer boats, access to different water sports and many other attractions. Pooley bridge is the nearest point on the Lake, where there are pubs, tea rooms, shops and walks. Another fantastic area to explore is Haweswater reservoir, a quieter place and where walks are more remote and equally, if not more, beautiful (if you have a Northern Lakes OS map then the front cover is a picture on a walk at Haweswater). The Market town of Penrith provides you with local amenities, supermarkets, independent shops and cafes. There are many places to take children nearby, visitor centres (such as Rheged and bird of prey centre), an ice cream farm and also many historical sites to see for example Lowther and Brough castle. From the lodge you can easily explore a wide variety of areas, not just the Lake District National Park but also the Pennines, Eden valley and the historic north Cumbria (such as Hadrians wall!)

  • Charlotte was great at replying to any questions we had before we arrived and gave clear instructions on how to find the place. Lots of local information provided as well! The place was really clean and it's easy to travel to all of the lakes. There is a lovely bridge and river just north of Butterwick (a couple of minutes drive away) and can be seen from the road, it's worth taking a quick look if you get the chance.

    Lizzie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts were fantastic. They do not live on the property but when we arrived as the area is a beautiful remote place they come down to make sure we were on accessing the place as we got a little lost. Communication was very quickly responded to and they were always there to help if needed. A great recommendation for food was much appreciated and the area was perfect for what we wanted. I cannot say enough how great Charlotte and Bob were. I would absolutely stay with you guys again. Thank you for a great weekend.

    Rayhan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was a great host, giving clear directions and easy to communicate with. The place was very clean and an ideal base for a couple to explore the Lake District.

  • Charlotte's place is lovely and cosy. We had a brilliant weekend and would love to stay again!

    Jonathan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was one of the best hosts I’ve dealt with on AirBnB, she went above and beyond for us and was incredibly accommodating. The Granary itself was a beautiful property and the views were amazing, the rooms and bathroom were clean and everything worked perfectly! I would love to be back and would definitely recommend.

    Faiz2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte's lovely Penrith getaway is amazing! It's the perfect size for a couple or individual to get that country escape you're after! She is also a polite and very responsive host, so you'll never feel like there is anything missing as she definitely delivers that personal touch. Would highly recommend.

Fermain Cottage is a charming lakeland home that has been lovingly renovated over the years to a high standard. It is a three storey property on a peaceful road, just a very short walk from Ambleside town centre. With ample parking for two vehicles, it is a perfect base from which to explore everything the Lake District has to offer. A tranquil, cosy and memorable place to stay, for up to five people. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
The front door opens straight into a newly renovated and well equipped kitchen area. The oven, gas hob and microwave gives you plenty of cooking options. There is a fridge / freezer, kettle, Nespresso Coffee Machine and dishwasher. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils - everything you need for a self-catered holiday. Stone floors lead through to the living room where there is a dining table / chairs and two sofas. There is a wall mounted television and a wood burning stove which is lovely to sit by in the evenings (please bring your own logs). There are some books and games kept in the living room which you are welcome to use. The house is fully centrally heated throughout and the controls are on the first floor landing. The bathroom is a stunning focal point of the home. After a long walk in the hills you can take a soak in the claw-foot tub, or have an invigorating shower with our complimentary toiletries. There is also a double bedroom on the first floor and laundry facilities. The top floor houses a large second double bedroom and a smaller single bedroom. There are excellent views of the surrounding fells from the top floor. On prior request we can accommodate a sixth person on a pull-out bed in the single bedroom. It is a full size single mattress bed (see photos) and would probably be best suited for children. There is an additional charge of twenty pounds if you would like the sixth bed to be made up. Stair-gates and a travel cot can be assembled prior to your arrival, upon request. Being a traditional lakeland cottage, the staircases are quite narrow and steep, which may present a challenge to the elderly or those with mobility problems. Outside: The back door leads out from the living room to a small, peaceful garden with an area of grass and benches. There is a gravel driveway large enough for two cars. There is a large lockable shed in the garden. If you want to store bikes etc in there, I am happy to arrange for the key to be left for you. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
Ambleside is a bustling and lively village where you will find plenty of things to do. Many happy hours can be spent wandering around the town and its interesting shops (with plenty of stops for coffees and cakes!). Ambleside is one of the best places to shop for outdoor gear if you are into fell walking / outdoor activities. In the evenings there are a number of restaurants within walking distance from the cottage if you don't feel like cooking. Pop into one of the many cosy pubs for a drink. The Lake District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - there is so much to explore! Turn right out of the cottage door on foot and there are a number of beautiful walks up the hill and onto the local fells, which are suitable for most people and children. Or take a short drive for some more challenging walks in the area - Helvellyn on a clear day offers unparalleled beauty from the top.
  • Fantastic location and a warm, welcoming cottage with everything you need.

    Chris2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just got back from a stay with two toddlers and a baby and the cottage was perfect! The cottage had a baby gate, high chair and travel cot all ready and waiting for us. It’s in a great location so close to walk into Ambleside centre and some fantastic views from the bedrooms on the top floor. Gareth was really responsive to my messages, and check in/out was so simple. The cottage was spotlessly clean and felt so homely and cosy, we’ll definitely be returning here for more Lake District adventures!

  • Excellent accomodation, close to Ambleside centre (the hill to the cottage isn't as big as it looks on Google maps). It had everything we needed despite spending most of our time out walking or hiding in the local pubs from the weather! All in all, would highly recommend if visiting Ambleside or the Lake District in general!

Tarn House has a great selection of local pubs and eateries including the 'local' Talbot bar (a 15 minute walk away), Chesters by the River (coffee, cake, breakfasts, salads, pizza – again, 15 minutes walk) and the wonderful Britannia in Elterwater (half hour walk, 5 minute drive). Check out dozens of other recommendations in the Guidebook below.
  • We had a great time staying at Tarn house; it is a lovely comfortable space, huge sitting dining area, with a very grand fireplace and cosy fire. There’s lots of helpful information to help you explore the local area. The location is stunning and so peaceful. We saw deer, herons, many rare birds. The weather was good and there are plenty of lovely walks on your doorstep.

  • We came for the first time in 2019 and decided to return this year. Really amazing place for a group of us to stay, and again had a beautiful memorable time together, this time enjoying the walk to the pub in Elterwater, and also up Loughrigg Fell.

    Naomi2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very good house, clean, warm, well equipped and very comfortable. It's bigger than appears on photos. Good tips on local area and suggested walks are excellent. Host (David) is quick to reply. (Just a little note - there is not a view from within the house). However in all other aspects this is a great house.

Greystoke is a stunning village, the centre of which is a mere 200 yards away. We have a fabulous pub "The Boot & Shoe", a village shop where you can buy everything you may need and we are lucky enough for it still to retain it's Post Office! A short walk from the central Shop/Post Office will allow you to take in the splendour of our 14th Century Church, itself quite spectacular and something to take a look at. About 7 miles from Greystoke you will find our nearest stretch of water "Lake Ullswater" and it's just stunning. We have Pooley Bridge to one side, then Glenridding and Patterdale to the other, all have boats to hire so you can explore the Lake for yourselves, but there is always the Ferry's that can collect and drop you off at various points throughout the length of the Lake. A 20 minute drive and you could be in Keswick, a wonderful town with lots to see and do, and them there hills and mountains are calling for you to climb them. Grasmere, Ambleside and Windemere are not much further so you'll be spoilt for choice as you are surrounded with the beauty of the Lake District. Carlisle is also about a 20 minute drive from here in the other direction, itself is a fascinating place to visit, with it'a Castle and Cathedral, Tullie House Museum and much more. Just a little further and you have "Hadrian's Wall" and the Roman Fort "Birdoswald"

  • Hazel and Ian make you feel very welcome on arrival , and they did the same for our dogs ! The accommodation is lovely and cozy and just what we needed as a stop over on our way to the Highlands. Will definitely revisit !

    Jim2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place with a real in-the-middle-of-nowhere feel, but only a few hundred metres away from Greystoke centre and a lovely pub. Beautiful scenery all around, loads of great walks and many pheasants and other birds roaming the grounds. We visited during early Feb 2020, during heavy flooding, but the grounds and the local roads were pretty much unaffected by the floods. The accommodation is lovely and warm, and the boiler room was warm enough to dry all of our stuff! There's plenty of parking and Hazel gave us a truly warm welcome and all of the information we needed about the area. We'll be back.

    Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • A very welcoming host, and very comfortable place to stay. Centrally located but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Penrith. Thanks John.

    Giles2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • A handy bolt hole in the centre of town It is in a quaint quadrangle right in the centre of Penrith, but is calm and peaceful as it is away from the road. It can be a little hard to find with sat nav, based on the post code alone, so do check with the full address. There are plenty of places nearby to eat and drink and a well stocked High Street with a variety of shops. Larger stores and filling stations are on the edge of town by the railway station a few minutes by car. Parking spots are a couple of minutes away, they're not free, but John can provide a council pass which waves all charges. The church clock is noticeable, although you soon become accustomed to the chimes. At weekends late night revellers cut through the church yard outside on their way home. If you are a light sleeper perhaps some ear plugs might be in order. The tea room downstairs is very quaint, packed with quirks and features; as is the surrounding area. The architecture reminds me of the model buildings I used to have on my childhood train set.

    Mark2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very good value, cosy room. Clean bathroom, good breakfast, ideally situated and a lovely view of the church

  • John is very nice and welcoming. I changed my arrival time and that was no problem. Clean cosy bedroom with clean towels and tea and coffee facilities. There was another guest but I didn't hear them. Pretty place near the church. Some church bells but to be expected and to be honest it was such a pleasant stay that I can't fault. Wonderful breakfast. Highly recommend and I would use again.

Comfortable room in a Victorian town house with separate but private shower room and toilet . We are located in the center of Penrith with all amenities within walking distance.
This room is within a 4 star guest house at a lower price than our other rooms based on a minimum 4 night stay.
Penrith is a market town and lies 3 miles outside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park
  • Very clean and Tidy. Very comfortable. Great value. Very flexible and amenable host

  • This is an Airbnb in a very popular guest house 5 minutes from the centre of Penrith. The quality of the room is the same as the B&B. I think the only difference is that you don't get ensuite. However the facilities are for your exclusive use and of a very high standard. Would recommend.

  • This is a great place and it is conveniently located. Susan is very accommodating even with my crazy “Photographer schedule”. I highly recommend it.

  • Great hosts , nothing too much bother , I will be back

    Don2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Susan is a lovely friendly host who is very accommodating. Shower always had constant supply of hot water (much more reliable than my own). Tea & coffee making facilties was a nice touch. Shower & toilet private, but not en-suite, but this wasn't a surprise, as the room description makes this clear, and was not an issue. Room was on 2nd floor, which again i knew and was not an issue. Very good value, and B&B is centrally located in Penrith, so ideal for those using trains/buses. Very nice walk through the woods to the Beacon on the summit of the hill behind town. Would heartily recommend.

    Jus2018-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Centrally located and friendly host. Susan is attentive and helpful and keeps the rooms spotless. Would happily return!

  • I had a great experience at Albany House. Responsive communication from Susan during booking process. I was greeted in person upon arrival and shown to my room. The room is just as it is presented in the photos and description on the booking site. Impeccably clean and comfortable. This is a private room with a sink/tap in the room. The bathroom and shower room are private but separate from the bedroom. This was clearly stated in the booking and it was not a problem at all. There are a few key features which are important to me which influence my satisfaction and thus my review of a property as follows: 1. Parking 2. WiFi 3. Comfort/cleanliness 4. Abundance of hot water for shower Albany House delivers positively on all accounts. Parking is on street, but free and a local parking disc is provided. I never had any problem finding a space. The broadband speed is excellent. The signal strength was a bit weak in my top floor room, but it did work most of the time. The room is well appointed, thoughtfully presented, and quite comfortable. The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Fresh towels and toiletries provided and topped up daily. The guest house does offer breakfast for an additional fee, but I cannot comment on it as my schedule did not allow me to partake. In summary, my experience at Albany House exceeded my expectations. It is an excellent value for money. I hope to return again in the future.

    Jeff2018-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Good accomodation for the price and location. Super clean. Tea making facilities available in room and TV. The toilet and shower were not en suite but that didn't bother me. They were clean and worked fine with plenty of hot water. Very good.

Small converted outbuilding next to our family home, with own entrance. Ideal Coast to Coast Cycle stopover or to use Penrith as a base. Easy access to the town (10min walk but with a quite steep hill on the way back!) as well as being within 5 miles of the National Park and Ullswater. The property looks over Penrith to the hills and is within a few minutes walk of local woods. Sleeps two people comfortably but able to accommodate up to 4 in total.
Upstairs bedroom - double bed, additional single mattress available, drawers, patio door to garden area/washing line. Downstairs living area - with double sofa bed, armchair, TV, stereo, microwave/convection oven, dining table. Kitchen area (downstairs) - fridge, sink, electric kettle, toaster, mugs, glasses, basic cutlery. Shower room (downstairs) - loo, small sink, shower. Secure bike storage available in our garage. Please note that the stairs to the bedroom are quite steep and may not be suitable for toddlers. The stairs do not have safety gates. Please also be aware that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. The cooking facilities are a little limited as there is no hob and limited space to prepare food. However, there is a combination microwave (Microwave, Convection Oven and Grill) for heating simple or ready meals. We also live within 10mins of the town centre, for anyone wanting a more substantial meal or to pick up supplies. We have three children, a dog (collie), a cat and some hens - all are friendly! They do not enter the guest accommodation but you may come into contact with them outside.... We are happy to have your children here. We are also happy for you to bring one dog by prior arrangement.
Penrith is a small market town on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Our property is in town and we are within walking distance of several supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, take aways, pubs, an independent cinema, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall. We are also very close to Beacon Edge, a popular wooded area for dog walks.
  • A clean and private space, really conveniently situated close to town and the main station. communication was great and cleanliness / presentation gets top marks :-) Thanks Sean and Natalie for hosting me!

  • This is a no brainer for us. If we are in that area then this is the first place we look to stay. It quaint, stylish and perfect from both a size and location size and the added touches of fresh bread, milk, cereal selections etc are just great. Highly recommend

  • What a cracking find. After a trip to the north lakes spa, we wanted somewhere convenient and suitable for 3 ladies to share! This was perfect. The accommodation is quite compact- but we didn’t need much space. The space is lovely- very nicely decorated and I liked all the cycling and running books/ maps etc. The host was super welcoming and even helped us find a local running route so we could have a bit of an explore. The little touches like supplying bread, yogurt, cereal etc was lovely. We couldn’t make the most of it as we had plans for breakfast out but it was a nice touch. A fab little place and we’ll definitely be back!!

    Laura2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sean’s accommodation was perfect for our stay in Penrith. He met us at the property which was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was just right. We would recommend Sean to friends and family and gladly stay again.

    Sara2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic small apartment that suited me completely. Sean was very quick to respond to queries and friendly face to face. The accommodation was very clean, modern and comfortable. I would recommend it as a place to rest after a challenging day out in the Lakes or the Eden valley.

  • Loved this little place so much, really close to a bunch of activities and the town has everything you’d need. Warm and cosy with lovely views from the bedroom too.

This centrally heated, one bedroom Guest Suite is part of a Georgian property built in the late 1700s. The Suite is located in Newton Reigny which is a peaceful village 5 minutes drive from the historic town of Penrith. 5 minutes to the M6 and A66 allows for easy access to the Lake District World Heritage site (the closest lake Ullswater 15 minutes drive). Free parking on the property's driveway and space also available to store equipment.
Sitting just 5 minutes from Penrith and the M6 this guest suite is in an ideal place for exploring the Lake District, town and surrounding areas. The most direct route to the closest lake Ullswater we find takes no more than 15 minutes (although Google maps says 17!). The guest suite is centrally heated by a renewable energy source. Downstairs it has a kitchen with a microwave oven, portable induction hob and a large selection of utensils. Across from the kitchen there is a sitting area where guests are able to relax by the electric opti-myst fireplace. Leading off the kitchen along the hallway there is the bathroom which has a walk in shower and heated towel rail. Upstairs is where the bedroom is located with a very comfortable king size bed and an electric blanket. The TV has all freeview channels and Netflix which has a large range of films, documentaries and TV series and can be used for free so is a perfect way to relax at the end of a day. The suite has keyless entry so guests are able to check themselves in. Across from the suite there is a heated utility room where guests are able to dry wet and muddy clothes/boots and store bikes/equipment. *Please note the driveway can be a bit narrow if you're in a large van*
  • From the moment we booked to the morning we departed the whole experience was brilliant. Easy directions, spotlessly clean and lovely and warm, fresh eggs and milk in the fridge, a bonus having a utility area to dry our wet walking gear. Throughly recommend .

  • Ali’s place is the perfect get away if your wanting a cosy treat. The location is not too far from all the top hikes around the lakes which Ali kindly suggested. My partner and I will hopefully be re-visiting soon in the near future.

  • Delightful please to stay, would definitely recommend.

    Bethany2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning place which felt cosy and welcoming, can’t recommend highly enough. Beautiful location and a great local pub also added to the experience!

    Kieran2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • I really liked this place. It was smaller than I realised from the photos, but cosy and everything I needed was there, including some very inventive space saving gadgets. The host was friendly and informative. The bedroom was really comfortable, the place was very warm and clean and the bathroom/shower were all clean and hot. Ideal for single people I would say. I would use this place again without hesitation. (Also excellent pub with great food about 5-10 minutes walk away).

    Garry2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place. Better than I expected. Loved the little touches of the fresh flowers and the snowdrop flowers on the windowsill. The little basket with goodies in too. Will definitely stay again and have already recommended to family and friends.

    Jennie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage and a really good host.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Alister's guest suite was really lovely and cozy. He had thought about everything, and we had everything we needed and more (the heated blanket in the bedroom was incredible and we loved our morning eggs!) Alister even gave us a guide including recommended walks and places to visit, and when we were struggling on where to eat, he gave us great recommendations, and let us know about potential traffic problems nearby beforehand. Would absolutely recommend and we'd definitely love to come back again!

The Garden Flat is in a wonderfully peaceful location overlooking Ullswater with panoramic views of timeless yet ever-changing fells, lake and sky. Experience it all from the bay window seat, sofa or even the bed, from the bench outside or on the lawns of Wreay Mansions. Step out of our front door in to an unforgettable landscape. We're on the Ullswater Way walking route and Pooley Bridge is close by. Enjoy a pint brewed at the Brackenrigg Inn. Fine dine or wild swim at Another Place.
This superbly-situated flat has already enjoyed some big changes – the start of a transformation to make it the perfect place to enjoy Ullswater. There is an open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge with new John Lewis oven, hob and dishwasher, new pans by Green Pan and a striking teal sofa by Gallery Hudson. In the bedroom we have a new Ercol Teramo double bed, and you can enjoy luxurious linen from Tielle Love Luxury – we discovered it at the fabulous Pig hotels chain. There's a new Sony Bravia TV with around 80 channels and radio stations available and if you have a Netflix account you can connect up. And you can listen to your own music using our Minirig speaker. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a bath and a shower. There is a lobby so you don't need to bring muddy boots or wet gear in to the flat. And a private parking bay is included. The flat has an impressive sandstone portico and a huge bay window where the views of Ullswater and the fells – including Helvellyn – are unforgettable.
Wreay Mansions is a cluster of apartments converted from a historic 19th century hunting lodge with elevated views of Ullswater – Wainwright's "loveliest of lakes" and the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The new Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Just down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn with more great views, food including Sunday lunch, its own microbrewery and – in winter – a big, roaring fire. Bustling Pooley Bridge – with its pubs, shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is a new temporary footbridge and free car park to use until the new stainless steel crossing opens this spring to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge or the famous Sharrow Bay hotel on the opposite shore. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. Fuel is competitive and there's great local food and drink on sale.
  • This is the perfect getaway! Views are stunning, hosts are so helpful and thoughtful with some lovely touches (choc, wine and beer gifted to us!) Lake ullswater is a 5 min drive as well as the amazing Air Falls waterfall. Windermere is just an hour away and there’s some great pubs/ restaurants with lots of choice. We will be back again in the summer

    Alicia2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I spent two nights at the Garden Flat. It was absolutely lovely and the perfect place to wind down and enjoy nature. The view is incredible and the flat is located on a quiet hill. The pub at the bottom of the hill is perfect for some tasty food that will fill you up for not too much money. From the house it's very easy to get to the Ullswater Way that will take you through the hills. Definitely recommend! Best wishes, Lisa and Scott

  • Communication with Matt prior to the stay was great, with lots of helpful information. Check in process was all very simple with a lock box and the view from the apartment, across the yard and to the lake/mountains is stunning no matter the weather! Heating in the flat was great and the added touches of underfloor heating and a fully equipped/new kitchen were great. A perfect base for a weekend in the Lake District

  • Lotte’s Room is part of much loved family home. Kath is super organised and efficient and covers everything you may or may not need! Lotte’s room is a large bright room, our bed was 2 twin beds together making it a super king size bed. The en-suite shower room was and cosy. Everything is sparkling clean! We had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Kath and her family could not have been more welcoming and kind. We are already booked in April as this is a great location for anyone heading north to south or visa versa - or someone wishing to base themselves to explore Penrith and The Lake District.

Cosy studio apartment in central Penrith. Wi-Fi and parking available!! Perfect location to go explore the lake district and beautiful town of Penrith, 10 minute walk from the train station. Lovely cafes, and delicious restaurants, great antique stores to go explore in the town! All walking distance!
The historic building is made up of five separate apartments. My apartment is on the first floor. The studio is a well lit, modern and stylish with a double bed with a double bunk bed on top. I have a washing machine which guests are welcome to use as well as all other necessary appliances. Cyclists are welcome to store their bikes indoors, and motorcycle tourers are able to park their motorcycle safely outside the apartment building. I will try to accommodate early check in and late check out requests, and I will try to accommodate early and late baggage drop/storage where it will help a guest’s situation. GUESTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE THEIR OWN BEDDING WHEN THEY RESERVE THE APARTMENT LATE ON THE SAME DAY.
The apartment is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Penrith at the NorthEast gateway to the Lake District. Extremely convenient for the many restaurants of the town. Ample parking, very close to the bus station and a short walk to the train station. The apartment is part of a grade 2 listed historic building with an attractive communal entrance which my co host and I maintain ourselves.

Perfect location, close to Lake District hiking spots and right next to the high street. Definitely bringing my friends back for a weekend away!! Couldn’t recommend it more!

My property is a beautiful, character-filled Edwardian townhouse, slowly undergoing renovation. The room is a nice sized double bedroom and in a quiet location, situated on a square with a wonderful private residents garden. The room is minutes away on foot to the train station and to the town centre with plenty of great supermarkets also very close by. The house is occupied by myself and I’ll be on hand to offer advice and recommendations. Meals can be arranged on request.
The house also has a private patio to the rear and is located on a delightful private gated garden which you are free to use for your relaxation. Please note that there is no access to the kitchen.
The house is part of a conservation area and is a highly sought after area, being centrally located yet very quiet. Transport links are second to none, and the town centre and train station are all walking distance. Trains will take you direct to London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Thornythwaite Farm is a cosy smallholding tucked into the foot of the fells above Ullswater lake. We're lucky enough to have space to work and play in this beautiful place, and for our growing menagerie of hens, ducks, sheep and bees. The fells are on our doorstep with the lake a 5 minute drive down into the valley and Keswick and Penrith are both easily reached in quarter of an hour. Dockray is a 5 minute walk down the road and is home to The Royal hotel which serves great food all day.
    Cosy en-suite bedroom.
The farm stands alone in its own land, surrounded by fields but with easy access to the road and local footpaths. It is a quiet and peaceful location, lots of birdsong and lovely views. There is the 400 year old Matterdale Church just across the road and a smattering of five neighbouring houses. The village of Dockray is a 7 minute walk away along a footpath which follows the road where The Royal Hotel serves food and drink. Thornythwaite Farm is a great location, nestled in the hills in the valley of Matterdale, close to lake Ullswater and great for walks. It is a lovely hour’s walk through woodland and past the water falls (Aira Force) to the lake where boats (the Ullswater Steamers) make trips to various points around the lake including Pooley Bridge . There are trails along the lake as well as walks up into the hills. There is a Sailing centre in Glenridding for boat hire.

  • Jacqui and Trev were the best hosts ever. Hikers and MBT guys it is a heaven! We felt like a part of a family and we can't wait to return. My favourite Airbnb experience so far. Trev in a few minutes made for us shoe rack for drying shoes plus amazing Sunday dinner:) Our muddy clothes were washed and nicely folded for us by Jacqui. Lovely couple who's place is a must to visit. Definitely 10+++ experience

  • Excellent hosts, really helpful. A lovely place to stay. Many thanks

    Lorna2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, very comfortable and so friendly. And fantastic food! Excellent bed and shower, so many little "extras". Jacqui and Trevor welcomed me like a friend and made me feel at home immediately. I would love to come again and would recommend strongly! Thank you.

    Lorna2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui's home is absolutely gorgeous. I stayed one night while walking the Coast to Coast trail. It was a scorching hot day and Jacqui was kind enough to welcome me to her home much earlier than the official check in time.

    Vera2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, not sure what to say as I could go on for ages! The perfect accommodation with the perfect people. Clean, comfortable room with an amazing bathroom/hot water. All necessities are including for the bathroom as well as a tea/coffee set up in your room. The smallest of touches are provided (i.e.- robes, medicine, first aid kid, hair dryer etc... I could list 100 more items). These small touches are just an extra benefit. You must get the breakfast and dinner that Jacqui and Trev prepare for you for an extra 15 pounds. Delicious and gracious size (pretty much a Texas sized meal ;). Their home is surrounded within the Lake District and everything you would want to explore is right outside the door. I actually extended my time their a couple days I was so mind blown with their beauty of Bampton Range, the surrounding villages and the fam bam itself. I’m not really a bath person so I mostly used the clean and big shower, but a beautiful, huge bath is provided for soaking and relaxing if that is your jam. You will not find any place for this value. Book now before someone else does! Cheers.

  • Fantastic hospitality, lovely, friendly couple who really put the effort in and make you feel extremely welcome in their home. Lovely house in lovely location. Definitely recommended!

    Laura2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui and Trev are by far the best Airbnb hosts that I have ever met. Even before we arrived, they were really good at staying in touch and thoughtful about giving directions and asking about food requirements. The moment we arrived at the house they gave us the warmest welcome imaginable. They invited us for a cup of tea, asked us about our plans and gave us recommendations accordingly. They had a road map ready for us and were really accommodating when we were late for dinner due to the weather. Trev even offerred to book us tickets for visiting the Bird of Prey centre which was a lovely touch. We could not have asked for more and cannot wait to be going back. In addition, the house was very clean, in a fantastic location.

    Bogdan2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Jacqui and Trev for a wonderful couple of night, we really enjoyed your food and your company and Harley was a star (we hope he enjoys his new chew toy). Nicky earnt her ice cream so we stopped in at the Cream O Galloway which was lovely. Thanks again, Will and Nicky

We enjoyed friday evening eating in and playing games around the table. Saturday we eat at a local pub. During the days we enjoyed walking, and were pleased to come back to a warm cottage with room to hang our wet coats. Towels were provided and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable.

Motherby House is an 18th century grade II traditional farmhouse, the house has lost none of its original charm. Hooks embedded in oak beams show where bacon was once cured and log fires add to the warm homely atmosphere. Families are always welcome. Unwind and relax in our oak beamed living room with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and a selection of home made cakes. There is off road parking and secure storage for cycles. The hamlet of Motherby, is positioned between Penrith and Keswick.
A traditional former lakeland farm house with secret walled garden.
Motherby is a small quiet village surrounded by open fields. Motherby has a scenic backdrop of both the Lake District fells and the Pennines. The national park boundary runs at the end of the village. We have pubs near to us that all serve good food and cask ales. The Coast to Coast cycle route runs through Motherby. The next village of Greystoke has village shop & post office a pub which does great food and in summer a open air heated swimming pool and a cycle cafe.
  • Great location for plotting north Lake District, easy access and lovely farmhouse

  • Jacquie's place, Motherby House, is a superb place to call "home" during your time in the Lakes District! It is cozy, yet spacious, and spotlessly clean! Our family of five, with three adult children, booked both rooms and were wonderfully comfortable and treated like royalty by Jacquie and her husband. The location is peaceful and quiet with an abundance of nearby adventures and activities. Add to this an absolutely outstanding breakfast, perfect communication, easy check-in and out procedures, and kind and friendly hosts and who could ask for more? We would absolutely stay at Motherby House again!
