Places to stay in Ferns

Places to stay in Ferns
I live in a 4 bedroom detached house, right in the village of Ferns. My home is very comfortable, warm and modern, in walking distance of the local pubs and shops, and beside the castle grounds. When you want two separate rooms, please book for at least 3 people. Ferns is a very historical, make sure to check out the history, http://www.fernsvillage.ie/ Ferns - the Ancient Capital of Leinster and Gateway to Norman Wexford. Nearby towns and attractions: Courtown, Gorey and Enniscorthy.
I ensure to have no personal items in the bedrooms and bathroom. I always dress the bed with fresh, clean bed linen, the bedroom is warm, comfortable, and clean. Fresh towels and toiletries are laid out for you.
  • Helen is great host, very nice and helpful with everything. Her hause is beuatiful and warm just like her. Highly recommended

  • Really handy place to visit Ferns and surrounds. The castle is next door and is really interesting. Helen’s a lovely host with lots of information about the locale. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed (very important), was comfortable and warm. Also important, the shower works well and you don’t have to dance around to get the water.

  • Helen is a perfect host. The place is good too, everything I needed. Will stay again

STUNNING SELF CONTAINED PRIVATE GUEST SUITE. With floor to ceiling windows and door framing the view of our tranquil garden, stream and pond. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine relaxing on the handcrafted terrace listening to the sound of birdsong and if you fancy, being adored by our big gentle Goldendoodle and our teacup Yorkie. Don't worry if your not a dog lover they'll be in with us. The suite is entirely self contained with a kitchenette and own door access.
Coming in from the private terrace you'll find a very comfortable queen sized bed, a seating area with table from which to plan your day. TV with cable channels. Wifi (free) throughout the suite, independent heating controls for your comfort and a full length mirror. From the bedroom its two steps down to a separate kitchenette which has a coffee machine, a microwave, a hotplate, a toaster and a small fridge. The fridge will be stocked with a few goodies for your arrival and a few essentials in the cupboards. There's no laundry facilities in the suite but we are only next door so you are welcome to use ours. The main feature in the bathroom is a terrific power shower. Though completely self contained there is a lockable door through to the main house. Guests are free to enjoy all of our peaceful garden. The entire suite is always pristine clean. Want to see more we're on fbook. fallingwaterferns. Pop over for more info. Or more pics on instagram fallingwaterferns.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet and surrounded by farmlands. The roads are quiet and walking is a pleasure. We have prepared a guest book for the suite which details all the local places to eat and visit to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. While tranquil and peaceful the amenities of Ferns are only a three minute drive away. Take away, pubs, restaurants, shops and a 24 hour garage shop. Ferns is an ancient town believed to have been established in the 6th century when a monastery was founded. Amazingly Ferns was not only the capital of the Kingdom of Leinster but also of Ireland. The city was destroyed by fire and shrank to its current size. However the remains of Ferns Castle is still standing and tours are available. Additionally it is a very easy drive to the towns of Gorey, Enniscorthy and Wexford. The glorious beaches of the sunny south east are easily accessible
  • Darrell is a great host. We loved his dog Alfie! Beautiful relaxing home, would recommend to a friend.

    Karen-Ann2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Darrell is such a gentleman as we couldn't find the place and he had no problem to pick us up in town. Lovely and cosy place to stay with a beautiful green view. Even better is the warm reception from his dogs. We definitely will recommend and come back in a near future.

    Osmar2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Not a single complaint, everything was perfect. Darrell was the friendliest host we’ve experienced, and as dog lovers we adored being able to love on the dogs if we so chose. Highly recommend!

    Ashley2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Darrell's house is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing getaway. The room is exactly as in the pictures, and you'll have a lovely porch from where you can enjoy the garden, and the sound of the creek and a waterfall just in front. Alfie and Tannar welcomed us on the house, they are lovely. And Darrell was a perfect host. Totally recommend!

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A great rural location. Idyllic for a summer base with the brook outside the patio. Darrell and his wife are caring hosts and place a great deal of emphasis on attention to detail. Great value for money for a couple. Highly recommended.

    Des2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Darrell's place is a quiet utopia! Its breathtaking even though I only stayed 2 nights it was a gorgeous quiet spot - I visited in the rain so I can only imagine the beauty of it in the summer. The sound of the waterfall while we slept was peaceful to say the least. The space was perfect & super clean. Will definitly book again if needed for my visit's to my friends. Thank you Darrell. P.S. Your dogs are just the sweetest!

  • We had a really lovely experience here. It's a little off the beaten track but that's what makes it special. The room was wonferful and amenities very handy. It's lovely to be able to make a cup of tea and coffee. Darrell was an excellent host, great communication and the doggies were very friendly. I would definitely come back preferably when it's warm so we can enjoy the outdoor area and waterfall. One night isn't enough!

Beautiful tree house with amazing views as seen on RTÉ's "The Big DIY Challenge". Enjoy a hilltop sunset over southern Ireland or watch a rainstorm pass over the fields from an elevated cozy site. Light a romantic fire in the wood stove and enjoy a glass of wine whilst taking in the views from multiple oversized windows. Stargaze from the loft bed through a large skylight. Enjoy grabbing an apple from the deck set within the apple trees which connects the tree house to the matching bathroom pod.
The tree house is cleverly designed, it incorporates function and style seamlessly. It wasn't just built for functionality it was carefully thought out from it's white washed wooden walls which give it a clean crisp feel to the gloss kitchen cabinets that add modern touch. You can open it up with the large hatch window that turns the kitchen counter into a inside/outside bar or close up the double glazed windows and light the fire which provides a beautiful ambiance and quickly heats the tree house. It's fully insulated and has modern electrics, the sockets all have USB plugs built in. There is also a electric heater if you don't want to light the wood stove and a Bluetooth speaker which easily connects to all phones so you can play a bit of your favorite music. Kitchen has mini fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and coffee machine all accessible but hidden out of sight. Breakfast is Continental style and all stocked in the tree house before your arrival for you to enjoy at your leisure. The bathroom even though it's two meters off the ground has a fully tiled floor, normal toilet, sink and large two person shower with rainfall shower head. Two huge windows in the shower make you feel like your in the wilderness but because of the bathroom pods height and location it's completely private. Bathrobes are provided for your comfort but we suggest you bring your own footwear. The shower water is heated with an on-demand gas water heater which is almost silent so all you hear is the water. Fire wood or eazy light fire logs are supplied. Must be able to climb ladders and no children allowed.
Located in a rural setting but only mins from N11 and the new M11 Enniscorthy bypass. About 1 hour from Dublin and 10 minutes from Gorey Town which has many restaurants, pubs and coffee shops.
  • Cosy and warm beautiful views including many wild birds. The greatest shower you will ever take and one of the best spaces you will ever stay. Matt and Ruth went over the top to make sure we were ok they even had a personalised card written for us. (which we kept by the way) 100% reccomend staying at "the hideout" Thanks Matt and Ruth

    Magdalena2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our 2 night stay at the treehouse was amazing. It’s called the hideout for a good reason; you have the run of the place and feel totally removed from day to day life. Matt and Ruth have it kitted out with everything you could possibly need. You’re left to just sit back, enjoy the amazing nature views and the cozy interior. I had to drag my partner out of the place!! We’d happily go back.

    Alan2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my boyfriend spent our one year anniversary in the hideaway and it was absolutely fantastic! What a wonderful space Matthew and Ruth have here, it is everything you want for a relaxing weekend away. It is an experience we will never forget and hope to come back soon! Thank you Matthew and Ruth for being such attentive friendly hosts!

    Ailish2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at The Hideout. The directions were spot on getting there and Matthew and Ruth were very welcoming upon arrival. The Hideout is just a slice of heaven. No other way to describe it. Everything we needed for our stay and more. All the little touches were just amazing. When we needed more firewood all I had to do was text and they had it to us problem. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back!

    Sarah2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time at the Hideout. Ruth and Matt have thought of everything. The little touches, snacks, diffuser etc! If you are looking for a chilled getaway with no distractions this is the perfect place. The view is also sensational! I can’t recommend this stay enough. We couldn’t fault anything.

    Aoife2020-03-01T00:00:00Z

  • We are just back from one night in the hideaway during an orange storm warning and honestly, it was the most incredible experience. You can thoroughly immerse yourself in nature while remaining dry and warm. This place is a completely Gem and Ruth and Matt were exceptional hosts. The treehouse was immaculately clean and the overall experience was outstanding. Thank you Matt and Ruth!

  • Paul was an excellent host, very informative. Goes beyond expectation with hospitality. Very centrally located.

    Olivia2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Paul's place was amazing, lovely garden, very quite bedrooms and high standard of hospitality. Paul is our best guest ever: he gave us two rooms instead of one, invited us to a lovely barbeque, and it was a pleasure to share our guest's experience chatting in the garden. the play room is the cherry on the cake: we will never forget our time there. Set in a beautiful part of rural Wexford, the house is surrounded by mature trees and offers our guests fantastic country views and a peaceful retreat from the hussle and bussle of daily life. Our house is set on 1 acre of land and is decorated to a very high standard. The spaces are bright and airy with the emphasis being on relaxation.
Guests would need to be dog friendly as there are 2 pets in the house. Our pets are extremely well trained, adult & child friendly. Our dogs are restricted to certain areas of the family home.
We are only 7 mins drive from the historical village of Ferns, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The Village is steeped in history and is the location of the magical Ferns Castle. We are only 15 mins drive from the historical town of Enniscorthy. You will find lots of great Restaurants & Bars in the town. A must visit for anyone interested in Irish history is the famous Vinegar Hill situated only 10 mins from Enniscorthy. The bustling towns of Gorey and Wexford offer a large selection of shops, great Restaurants and Bars. Wexford offers many great Golf Courses some of which are with 15-20 mins drive. Wexford is of course famous for its beaches with the closest being 30-35 mins drive.

  • Hello Airbnb ers. Gillian and Tony’s home is as described. It is peaceful, surrounded by green farmland. The house sits on its own large garden among a big lawn. The extremely clean and tidy home has large bedroom and large bathroom, in fact every area is bright and spacious. Everything works and is where you would expect it to be. That’s the home, perfect. Now for the hostess and host. Warm, friendly and most helpful. I was so comfortable it was as if I was staying with friends at home rather than in accommodations, meanwhile if you require privacy inside or outside it is there to be had. There is a large gated garden and lots of safe parking places. To sum up, wonderful place, wonderful hosts and all should feel welcome and happy there. Besides, it’s a bargain ! The historic village of Ferns is a few minutes away in case you need a castle or pub fix.

  • This was one off the best places I have stayed in.Myself and my friend needed somewhere nearby to stay whilst working in the area and this place was unbelievable.Paul was the best host you could ask for and really makes you feel at home.On arrival Paul was there to great us and show us around and would do anything to make our stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. In the evenings Paul would get the guests together to play pool, table tennis and air hockey which was brilliant as you got to interact with other guests from different parts off the world and speak to some really interesting people.Paul thank you once again for making our week at work a brilliant one and I will be highly recommending your place to the other guys from work if there working in the area in the near future which they will be! Regards Robert

  • We had a great stay with Paul! The place was warm and cozy and bedrooms were comfortable. Paul was very welcoming and has plenty of stories about the history of the area. We had only one night at his place but will definitely be back!

    Greg2019-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute pleasure to have met Paul. He is the highlight of the house, not that the property has any less to offer. The house was stunning in terms of gaining an experience from a trip. Having a craic at the game-house to star gazing in his beautiful backyard. Paul was a gentle and our zen master while we barbecued at night and temperatures dropped unexpectedly. I would recommend anyone and everyone to visit his place and it should be on top 10 things to do when visiting Wexford. I am sure we will be visiting him soon during summers to experience this slice of heaven again. Its a must trip if you are visiting Wexford for a PROPER Irish experience. Stay blessed Paul... Cya soon !! P.S - House was super clean and has all the amenities possible.

  • Very nice house for family or groups of 2 or 3 couples, located in a very calm and quiet place in the middle of the field. The house is serviced by all amenities, including wifi, bed linen, towels, kitchenware and appliances. I certainly recommend it.

    Bruno2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, comfortable property in the middle of amazing countryside. Perfect base for our family of 2 adults and 3 teens to explore the countryside of Ireland. The house is well equipped and clean. Plenty of space and a big garden too. There are a few neighbours, but it feels very private. The surrounding roads are very quiet, just the odd tractor! We did a lot of driving - a car is essential. But we found lots to explore within an hour’s drive. We even made it into Dublin for a day, via the Park and Ride in Carrickmines and the the Luas tram. Damian was very efficient and easy to deal with. Everything was simple and straightforward. A great host.

    Chris2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Damian's place is great for those who are looking for a calm and secluded place to use it to discover south-east of Ireland and the nearby beautiful beaches. The neighbourhood is very nice and very quiet, you can have some great nights of sleep here. The house is full of space and very comfortable and has a huge garden where we played football with my son. Although the house offers only very basic food supply (mainly salt and a very fine complement wine at arrival -thanks! :) ) it has one of the most equipped kitchens I have ever seen. As we were there with a family and cooked for ourself it was very useful. Damian was very helpful if we had any request or question. I definitely recomend!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Curraduff. The house is great and really lives up to its name Comfy Country House! The house is clean and modern and the garden is great for the kids to play. We had a great time seeing the sights and cycling the country lanes. It's also a great base from which access the South East's sandy beaches or historic locations.

  • This home is amazing. I could tell that a lot of work and love went into this place. The house is in a secluded area however anything you need is within 20 minutes. Damian was a great host with constant open communication and always willing to help no matter what the question. Super clean with modern amenities. I look forward to going again next year.

    Franklin2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Damian's house. It was perfect for us and our kids. We made a last minute decision to look for a place to stay in Wexford and booked Damian's house. It is a hidden gem! We took short spins to Courtown, Wexford Town & New Ross over the time we spent there. The house was spotless, had a lovely garden for the kids to run around and a beautiful deck to sit out on in the evening sun. The sauna was a treat also! We will definitely return to Damian's house. We cannot recommend it high enough. Thanks Damian.

Take a break from the world in an authentic Finnish log cabin. The Cabin is a unique cosy space in the heart of the Wexford countryside with beautiful views and a warm inviting atmosphere. Experience the calm and tranquillity of the Nordic pine wood interior. Located near historic villages and vibrant towns, miles of beaches and coastline and an array of forest walks, it offers a beautiful base for any trip. Perfect for cosy retreats or family getaways - The Cabin is a wonderfully inviting place
The Cabin is warm and welcoming and offers beautiful views of Sliabh Bhuí mountain with stunning evening sunsets. The space is calm and peaceful and offers a great opportunity to connect with nature. There is lots of garden space to play games or listen to the birds sing. The Cabin is flooded with natural sunlight and the decking provides the perfect spot to try some morning yoga or have a late brunch in the midday sun. In the evening, watch the sunset and be dazzled by the night stars brightness. At night, the space becomes a cosy haven to relax in before a restful nights sleep on the memory foam bed. The Cabin is intimate yet spacious and offers all ages a unique experience to stay in a home away from home.
The local and historic pub ‘The Harrow’ is only a 1.5km walk away. Nearby Boolavogue has the Fr. Murphy center telling the history of 1798 and Ferns Castle is also a short drive. There are lots of forest, hill and nature walks within a short distance and of course Wexford’s beaches and beautiful coastline are all within 15 minutes drive. Spend an afternoon visiting the set of Brooklyn in Enniscorthy or sampling some of Gorey’s wonderful restaurants. Nearby Carrig Rua offers a lovely forest walk or try spot a Red Squirrel in Camolin Forest. I would be happy to make suggestions for things to do around Wexford for all ages.

  • We had a fantastic stay. Paul is an exceptional host who went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable weekend. He treated us like family, even taking my kids fishing one evening! We wish we could have stayed longer as we’d have loved to have made use of the kayaks, had another lovely al fresco dinner (with fresh herbs and veg from Paul’s amazing garden), and settled the family air hockey battle once and for all! We would definitely stay at Mountfin House again! Thanks a million, Paul.

    Kendra2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Paul is an amazing host, and will help you with anything you need, knows loads about the local area and what you can enjoy. You will have an amazing time at his home as he is always at hand with anything you need. His home is a must to stay at if you are in the area. My only regret is that we werent able to stay longer!

    Sadie2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Received a very warm welcome from Paul. The kids had been on a 4 hour journey down from Belfast so the games room was a welcome reprieve for them and the parents :-) Food was in order and with Paul’s knowledge of the local areas he directed us to the a local pizza joint which kept the hungry hoards happy. We were there for a 1 night stop on they way to the ferry from Rosslare early the next morning. Very nice setting in the countryside. It was a short but very pleasant stay. Cheers Paul.

  • It is with great simplicity and kindness that Paul shared his home with us. The moments shared in the kitchen to prepare meals or in the garden to discuss around the table, will remain key moments of our stay in Ireland. Indeed, Pau in "superhost" is eager to meet its "guests" multicultural exchanges guaranteed. It's a lot of simplicity and also kindness, that Paul has shared with us. The moments we share in the kitchen while cooking, or in the garden. Indeed Paul has a superhost cares to make his guests spend time together and meet each other: multicultural interaction granteed.

  • I think the title Superhost has earned Paul rightly. He is super friendly and helpful, took time to give us good tips for outings. He also thought about what our children might like. It was a very relaxing stay and we felt very comfortable. It reminded us more like visiting relatives, maybe not seen for a long time, but warmly received.

    Christian2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • 4 of us arrived at Paul's place on Saturday evening and we were absolutely amaized how welcoming he was. From the minute we arrived we felt as we were visiting a dear friend not a b&b host He made sure we felt like at home We were able to use his game room , play piano and were welcomed to use BBQ Paul was very accommodating (we were able to bring our dog with us and Paul gave us a bedroom away from the others guests just in case someone didn't like dogs which just proves how he thinks and looks after everybody) He was also very helpful giving us directions and recommended beautiful places that we visited. Great location. Close to Enniscorthy where you have good choice of pubs and restaurants Fantastic sandy beaches nearby We were sorry to leave and if we were going back to County Wexford we would definitely stay with Paul again!Highly recommended Gorąco polecamy. Fantastyczny gospodarz.Niesamowita atmosfera .Bardzo pomocny Swietna lokalizacja.Niezapomniany weekend.

This cosy get-away was recently renovated and is the perfect base for exploring the South East or for sitting around a warm fire with good company.
The property itself has been lovingly restored to the highest specifications large windows looking out over the Black Stairs mountain. Clean, light and spacious, it sleeps 6 people in three double bedrooms, with cot and highchair available. Two spacious bathrooms include an electric shower and shower bathtub. An extensively equipped kitchen, including a broad range of herbs and spices, opens out onto a furnished patio which overlooks the private garden. There is a utility room with a washer and dryer, a wood burning stove which has logs provided. The house is equipped with a television and DVD player and WiFi. Large vegetable patches line the driveway and guests are encouraged and welcome to pick and use any seasonal veg as they wish. The local village of Ferns is a charming village with a selection of traditional pubs, cafés and restaurants along with a historical castle which is worth exploring. It is the perfect location for hikes and country walks or a swim in the Irish Sea. Nearby Gorey has five large supermarket along with bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. Gorey is also very accessible with a good rail network and bus system.
  • We stayed for a week with our children (aged 5 and 6) and had a lovely, relaxing holiday. The house is fully equipped with everything we needed and the view is amazing. Peter provided lots of local tips for sightseeing (half of which we managed!) and there are great beaches within 30 minutes drive. We would highly recommend this home. Thank you Peter!

    Lorien2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is off a high standard, well maintained and in a truly beautiful location. Peter was an excellent and thoughtful host who communicated well all the things we needed to know

    Tony2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful building with stunning views - very comfortable, well equipped. Peter is a thoughtful host.

    Tom2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's house is fabulous! Gorgeous views! The beds were comfortable, the house warm and the whole space felt calm, cosy and relaxing. Would definitely recommend a stay!

  • We were a family of 4, a couple and two kids of 2 years old. It is a beautiful, wonderfull and charming cottage, much better than our expectations. The cottage is warm, clean, with all the ametities a family needs, with plenty of light and beautiful views from inside the cottage. There is enough space for the children to play inside and outside the cottage. There is everything needed to cook in the kitchen and also bits and pieces of food in a case you arrive without food (cans, Salt sugar, coffe, tea,, etc), wich was good in our case for the first night (after we replaced them). Peter and Alison were helpful if anything needed and very friendly too. If we came back in the same area, we wouldn't hesitate to ask Peter and Alison to come again at their place. Best place to stay!

    Gemma2019-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's house is a perfect place to relax and unwind away from the modern world - the house has been recently remodelled and is warm and comfortable with stylish furnishings. The kitchen is very well-equipped and Peter is a great host with everything thought of - there is even internet which we didn't expect. There are amazing books to read with a wonderful view from the hilltop, fresh vegetables and herbs, a gorgeous garden, suntrap patio and comfortable surroundings. If you come with small children, bring a stairgate to attach (as we did) as they are steep/open between the slats but otherwise it is brilliant for a young family (our kids are 5,3 and 1). There is a proper cot in one of the bedrooms too. We would love to return.

    Lisa2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was my third stay in Peter’s home, and the gorgeous cottage just as relaxing and comfortable as always. With beautiful views from every window, and all the comforts and extras you could ask for, the cottage is also close to Gorey and Enniscorthy, making it perfect for day trips. Peter is a great communicator and check in is a breeze. Hope to return to this wonderful cottage soon.

    Margaret2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Peter’s home, and the cottage was just as wonderful as we remembered. Spotless, bright and spacious, it is the perfect location for exploring Wexford, especially Gorey.  Perched on a hill with an incredible view of the Black Stairs mountains, Peter’s home is a wonderfully peaceful and comfortable getaway spot, and we are already hoping for a return visit!
