Places to stay in Crocketford
Part of a period farmhouse we have a newly appointed apartment available for holidays in our lovely area of Dumfries and Galloway. Dumfries and Galloway is a part of Southern Scotland often overlooked by those heading North to the Highlands. It retains it's slow old fashioned unchanged character and is a hub for arts and crafts aswell as having many wonderful beaches and excellent pubs and restaurants. Dogs are welcome if well behaved and kept on a lead around the garden.
The surrounding land and gardens are not over looked and guests can enjoy complete privacy.
  • Everything was fantastic! The beautiful surroundings and the blazing hot fire is enough to entice anybody, but the star of the show was definitely Martin himself! Stayed in many places around the world, and never seen such fantastic hosting. Will return next year!

  • Martin was a great host, my stay was really enjoyable and felt very relaxed. Loved the cosiness of the place and the log burning fire. My dog fell in love with Willow and made his trip special.

  • It was a dark and stormy night... but I was warm and cosy here. Great little place in a beautiful setting. Martin gave me a friendly welcome and had a fire going for me, which was much appreciated.

  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely weekend. It was very windy and rainy so the fire was welcome relief from the cold. We had a very cosy weekend. We ventured to Caerlaverock Castle and had a lovely few hours there and then back to the warmth of the fire, a whiskey or two and some nice food, cooked in the Agar All in all a lovely weekend. Martin had lots of information about the local area. We would visit again. Thank you.

    Natalie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We were greeted by a friendly welcome from Martin and his lovely dog Willow. My dog and Willow had a great time running round together in one of the fields in the farm. A lovely peaceful location for a short break.

A cottage with a different. Old meets new. The traditional cottage has been restored to the highest standards and the modern extension to the rear with floor to ceiling glass on three sides is where the kitchen, dinning and family room is sighted, this takes in the amazing views in of Bengairn and Criffel. Brigston Cottage is one of the oldest in the hamlet. It is centrally located in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway which means if you come to stay you can explore the whole region with ease.

Fresh air, silence, peace. This 18th century cottage next to the ancient Lochpatrick Mill stands in its own lovely gardens on a quiet rural back road, yet within 10 minutes of Castle Douglas, the ‘Food Town’. The house sleeps nine. Spacious, warm, well-equipped, book-lined, with an open fire, a small bowling green, a tennis court, and challenging coarse fishing - the house is a perfect holiday escape. All welcome.
The whole house is available. It is spacious, warm, welcoming and well-equipped, creating a relaxed, informal atmosphere, with an open wood fire in the living/dining room.
The Mill and Miller’s House are set in a sheltered dip in the rolling green hills of Galloway. Smithy Cottage on the other side of the quiet back road is the only other house in the immediate vicinity. The house is 5 minutes drive from the simple village shop in Springholm and the similar village shop in Crocketford. It is 10 minutes drive to the small, bustling, farming market town of Castle Douglas where there is a large Tesco, a Co-Op, petrol stations, restaurants, antique and bric-a-brac shops and pretty much everything else you might want for your stay, including row-boating on the local lake, the beauties of the Scottish National Trust’s school of gardening at Threave Gardens and nearby Threave Castle. The larger historic town of Dumfries, with its many department stores, Robbie Burns and town museums, swimming pool and ice skating rink is about 25 minutes drive away. Carlisle is just over one hour away by car and less by train from Dumfries.
  • The Millers House is such a lovely house! Very cosy, warm and comfortable, feeling like a home away from home immediately. There is most things you will need (bring loo roll though as there wasn’t much when we arrived) and the kitchen is very well stocked for most food prep requirements. The area is lovely, and central to many amazing places nearby. The house was easy to find too, which is great after an 8 hour journey! We loved the big dining table and open fire - perfect for long evenings playing board games after being out in the wintery wild winds all day! Point to note - the twin room and single room are both on the ground floor, whilst the two doubles are upstairs (the cutest staircase ever!), and there is a bathroom on both floors. We definitely recommend this lovely house :-) and will return.

  • Really nice house with every kitchen utensil and dish you could ever need, huge garden with lovely views

    Lisa2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming cottage with plenty of space for 9 people, including living and dining space. It is a treasure trove of pictures, ceramics, glass and books, with an eclectic and tasteful mix of old furniture pieces. White Company bed linen was fresh and beautifully laundered and pressed. The kitchen was full of recipe books and incredibly well-equipped with cooking equipment of all kinds. The children loved the large grassy area and enjoyed exploring the burn at the bottom of the garden. We had a lovely visit.

  • Kathy was excellent at communicating quickly and took a booking at short notice as we were looking for somewhere comfortable and clean to accommodate family travelling from abroad for a funeral . Kathy was very supportive and flexible and would regularly ensure that the fire was lit while we were out to make the home warm and cosy when returning at nights . Excellent host . Thank you Kathy .

  • Cowar Cottage is fantastic. It is in the perfect location for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. Although it was tempting not to do any exploring as the cottage, its facilities and the stunning garden and its views were idyllic. The cottage description is spot on and David is a perfect host.

  • A great farmhouse, spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and found it a lovely warm home in some very stormy weather! Would happily recommend. Well equipped kitchen, spacious open plan living area and very comfortable beds. We would book again if the opportunity arises.

  • What a fantastic cottage, which was very clean, tidy and very well equipped for all of our needs, with spacious accommodation and comfy beds, everything you need for a few days away. The cottage is ideally located for the majority of the 7 stanes MTB trails, some of which are less than 20 mins drive, which was perfect for us. We will definitely consider staying there again should we be in the area.

  • Very comfortable. The beds were so comfortable it made it hard to get up in the morning. The living room was cozy with the fireplace. The fenced in yard was nice for the boys to play in. The wifi was good.

The lovely views from our home.
Our part of Galloway has great walks and views, a very good pub just two miles along the road and they serve great food [ The Galloway Arms ] Please Note. We are unable to let our guests use our kitchen to cook their own meals.
  • This is more traditional BnB and provided a super spot to stay for our trip. The cooked breakfast gave a great start to the day. Christine the host was very helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. A very authentic experience with a lovely host.

Isolated, private and peaceful, next to a reservoir. Ideal for long weekend breaks, half term and holidays! Beautiful, completely renovated and refurbished, with log burners, CH, WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen and plenty of space for relaxing. Lovely views from every room. An enclosed lawn with mature garden overlooks the reservoir which has a back drop of the stunning Dumfriesshire hills. Walking, fishing, cycle trails, beaches and many other attractions are all within reach.
You will find on arrival professionally serviced fresh linen and towels for all guests, and luxury mini toiletries in each bathroom. A selection of tea, coffee, fruit juice, breads/ pastries and seasonal goodies will be provided to help you settle in as well as some essentials in the fridge. Please let me know if you have any other particular requirements. Plenty of parking space, and a lockable store room for bicycles and outdoor gear will help to make your stay easier. You can book for 3 nights or more.
As can be seen form the photos the cottage is in its own lovely unique setting. The local area was in May 2018 named by the Telegraph to be one of Britain's best picnic spots and two Henry Moore sculptures are found nearby. A great deal of the surrounding area is used for grazing, so please close gates and respect our local farmers and their livestock, as you share this beautiful countryside. Solway coast beaches, the Galloway National Park and Scotland's first Dark Sky Park, Seven Stanes cycle routes, Food town of Castle Douglas, Artists’ town of Kirkudbright, Threave Castle and Estate, and Drumlanrig Castle are all within easy reach. The Cocoa Bean Factory, and Mabie Farm Park provide wonderful days out for younger guests or visit Laggan for Scotland's longest zip wire and other outdoor pursuits. Bistro pubs can be found in the nearby hamlet of Auldgirth and slightly further up the A76, in the town of Thornhill. Dumfries town is around 20 mins drive East down the A75, where you will find supermarkets, filling stations, banks, and shopping etc as well as Ice rink, cinemas and indoor swimming pool. Tesco .com will deliver groceries to this cottage. Castle Douglas is 15 minutes west on the A75 has many gift shops, restaurants and an indoor swimming pool and loch. If you are on retreat, it is wonderful to walk up the steep hill opposite to Henry Moore's cross.
  • This is our second time staying at Cornlea. We already knew that the property was in idyllic surroundings and that the property was furnished tastefully and had everything we may need for a short stay. It was also spotlessly clean. A welcome pack was provided for us with some lovely goodies to start our stay (thanks Sarah!) We explored the surrounding area a bit and would highly recommend the walk at Garlieston and a visit to the quirky Wigtown. We all hope to return again soon.

    Deborah2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. We’ve stayed before and no doubt will go back again.

    Jamie2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Cornlee is a lovely cottage with magnificent views and very quiet. Brilliant location for traveling around the South West of Scotland with easy access to coast and lots of wonderful scenery and glorious walks. The cottage is very comfortable with all mod cons including working wood burning fires, wonderful decor, comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. A safe place for children to play outside and even get up close and personal to the wildlife - pheasants were knocking at the door! The week at the cottage went by very quickly and will definitely be going back.

    Sarah2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely setting right beside reservoir. Local walks were nice although wet in October. Property very spacious and great to have 2 separate living spaces as well as dining kitchen. Beds large and very comfortable. Very well equipped kitchen

    Zoe2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious and comfortable accommodation, ideal for larger families. There is plenty of room to all be together, but to also spread out! Cornlee has everything you need after a day exploring the beautiful countryside: 3 bathrooms, washer, dryer and well equipped kitchen. There is useful secure storage for bikes. There are fantastic views from all rooms, especially those at the front of the house, overlooking the loch and hills. Whilst we enjoyed sitting in the sunny garden when the weather was good, it was really cosy inside watching the rain lashing against the windows. Cornlee is in an extremely tranquil setting. We barely saw other people, just the very occasional car on the road across the loch. However, the nearest main road is a short drive away, with easy access to amenities and visitor attractions. We had a fantastic family holiday and were very sad to leave.

    Marie2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great house with lots of space, and beautifully finished. The location is idyllic - photos don’t do it justice. Sarah was very quick and clear in her communications.

    Pete2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Cornlee is a perfect picturesque cottage with modern top quality fixtures and fittings set in the middle of beautiful countryside by a reservoir...if you want peace and quiet this is the place to go. It’s everything and more as described on the website. Sarah the host is brilliant....I would highly recommend staying here and our group hope to stay there again soon

Specially designed for large groups to have fun in any weather. Huge oak dining table seats up to 16. Blazing woodburners, views to hills, cheerful llamas. Games room for tournaments - converts to cinema for wine, woodburner & popcorn. Llama walking, motorcycle sidecar trips. Stunning countryside & coast, abundant wildlife & outdoor activities. Sleeps 12 easily and can have 4 extra people - ( see later). 6 bedrooms, 6 bath/shower rooms). For more info, type Durhamhill into search engine.
Bathed in natural light with great views through the panoramic windows. 2 kitchens & seating areas, & 2 woodburners (it can be split into 2 cottages). Guests can relax here, undisturbed, for the whole holiday or go out to explore the stunning Galloway countryside and shoreline. We have hills, woodland, lochs, rivers and great beaches and coves, all still relatively undiscovered. Expect attention from Durhamhill's cats, hens and llamas. This is why I'm afraid we don't allow dogs. To set up the 2 extra guest beds we open a sliding wall between the bunk & twin rooms, making one room for 6 people with limited floor space (see photos - rooms 5 and 6). Aso 2 sofabeds (small doubles suitable for one adult each), one in each open plan kitchen/sitting room. In summer, the sofabed in games building can be used instead by 2 adults/teenagers (shower room and kitchenette here). Please contact owner to discuss bookings for more than 12 people. Out of peak season, one half of house can be rented on its own Mon to Frid.
Durhamhill is a short distance from the neighbouring village of Kirkpatrick Durham. This village has many artists. The owners (at Durhamhill Farm) have thick house walls and like hearing laughter and fun. The surrounding countryside is very pretty and there is pub which serves food 1.5 miles away.
  • The Coach House is in a lovely rural setting and is a great place for family gatherings or catching up with friends. We stayed for 2 nights for 3 birthday celebrations and had a wonderful time. The games room was a bonus given the wet weather. Our host kindly showed us the llamas and made us feel very welcome.

    Nick2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We celebrated a family birthday at the Coach House and all three generations had a wonderful time. It’s a great space and is perfectly suited to large family gatherings. Fabulous touches like coffee and homemade cake on arrival really made the difference. And the llamas! Juliet was very generous and let the children feed the llamas their breakfast and take one for a walk! Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

    Lisa2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place. A group of friends and I just had an amazing weekend celebrating my 50th birthday. Juliet was very kind and baked two cakes for our arrival. The house was perfect for our wee party. We’ll definitely visit again. Thank you 😊

    Viv2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Really excellent accommodation, perfect for large groups and ideal location for those looking for quiet country break. Hosts were very responsive and helpful during our stay. Even learnt the difference between a llama and an alpaca !

    Chris2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a long weekend there for my husbands surprise birthday family get together. The Coach House was ideal for this. It is a beautiful house, very well decorated, very well equipped in a beautiful spot with lots of thoughtful touches to help you enjoy your stay. The games room proved a big hit with the 'kids' and adults alike. The hosts were very welcoming with home baking on arrival and letting us meet and feed the llamas. The emphasis was definitely focused on our enjoyment with the stereo / games/ cinema room etc. Would highly recommend and would certainly return.

    Janice2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • We were lucky enough to spend time at the Coach House for a hen weekend and we could not have asked for a more beautiful place or more helpful hosts. The llama walks and sidecar trip for the bride-to-be added to the hilarity of the weekend and the afternoon tea set up with homemade cakes was a lovely personal touch. The responses from the hosts were very prompt and the decor of the house was beautiful. I would highly recommend this place and would love to stay again!

    Sophie2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding hosts, so friendly and gracious. The house is stunning and the country side is beautiful, we will definitely be back to explore the fishing and countryside again

    William2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful trip to the coach house, the place was spotless with a nice personal touch of afternoon tea and cake laid out for our arrival. The sidecar trip and the lamas were an added bonus and allowed the bride and hens to be distracted for us to decorate the outbuilding. Having the outbuilding was great to add another venue for the following evening hen activities. The hosts were very welcoming and responded to messages quickly. I would highly recommend

Great area for cycling (off the A roads) and for visiting Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright. • Craigadam has its own charm we could not resist. We were staying as 2 couples with 2 kids under 2 and we had a wonderful time. Lodge is perfect size for 2-3 couples with kids and all bedrooms are a great size and on-suite bathrooms. Breakfast in the main house was amazing and we really enjoyed our stay. We had a really crap weather for a day but staying in the lodge was very enjoyable and the sheltered central courtyard was a nice option on a rainy day. There was even a sandpit available that our children enjoyed a lot. Hopefully next time we will be able to explore walks available straight from the lodge. Also, the location offers a lot of attractions within up to 20mins drive - especially for the little ones. We can't wait to be back to see other things we missed out on this occasion.

An 18th century family home in the heart of beautiful Galloway - it exudes history and old world charm and elegance. As long as you like comfort, calm and a host with a passion and over 20 years of bed and breakfast experience. Gentle walks up the hill, enjoy the lovely garden and tennis or simply use Chipperkyle as a base to explore Galloway.
Chipperkyle has two bedrooms - a double and a twin. Each has its own bathroom. Photographs of all the accommodation is on the Chipperkyle website. Both rooms each sleep 2 only.
  • Both this home and it's host are an exceptional find. The house is cosy and feels like you are staying in a museum with all of the incredible artwork in each room. Willie goes the extra mile to make sure you feel comfortable. Sitting in the drawing room with the fire on is a must! It was so relaxing I nearly fell asleep there! Breakfast is great but what I loved more was the teapot and China that it was served in. Little touches like that really made this trip special and memorable. The room and bathroom are comfortable and spacious. The bath is a must! There are some lovely walks nearby and Willie has a lot of maps and leaflets to help guide you. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend! Thank you so much for the hospitality.

  • Stayed as a couple for two nights over the Easter weekend and had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. Willie is such a great host, attentive yet unobtrusive and a great chef- breakfast and evening meal were both delicious. Chipperkyle is a gorgeous unspoilt country house in the most peaceful setting. Our room was beautiful, huge comfy bed and amazing ensuite bathroom both with fabulous views over the Galloway hills. We loved chatting to Willie about the history of Chipperkyle - so interesting. We enjoyed a walk one evening around the estate accompanied by Willies dog 'Socks'who showed us the way! We left feeling refreshed and uplifted- fantastic!
