The Appalachian Trail (McAfee Knob), Smith Mountain Lake, James River, and Carvin Cove reservoir are also close. Feel close to nature while being close to conveniences of shopping and nice restaurants just down the mountain in Salem and Roanoke. One bed/bath with a pull out sofa in living room. Pet friendly! Private Luxurious Ms Helen's Down Under, once home to band practice and poker games now tastefully updated with modern decor and comfortable surroundings. This is the updated basement with its own separate entrance, bath, kitchen and Laundry room in my home. There is almost 700 sq feet to use or if you need a private getaway or crash pad. Loft style, their is no door on the bedroom. We do not block days at all in if it shows not available it isn't. We do not allow pets as host is allergic.

The Magical Cabin on Back Creek

Magic is the word most people use when they visit this hidden gem. Built in 1939 as a fishing cabin by a gentleman who incorporated box cars as rafters and beams, dates still visible since removing the attic. By far the best place I've ever lived. I decided to share it with others who love to explore, who love listening to the voice of the creek or who come just to sit on the porch high above the creek with a spouse, friend, family, or alone. For the best sleep, open the bedroom window!

The original log cabin was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). These cabins were built after the Blue Ridge Parkway was laid in 1935, which is just down the street. With love and attention our cabin's renovations were complete in 2017. We kept the original log walls to add a rustic feel to the contemporary, crisp clean decor. The cottage overlooks the babbling waters of Back Creek but is just a 5 minute drive to the grocery store, private yet convenient.

Their home was amazing, it was clean, exquisitely put together and very proactive approach from the owners as far as my stay during my business trip. they went outside their way to make sure I felt comfortable and hospitable during my stay. I would definitely recommend them in the future and definitely on my trips back to Salem.

Ann and Will are very great host. Soon as we came in the door there was a personalized note for me and my friends with some snacks and six pack of heniken for us in the fridge. That was very cool and greatly appreciated after 4 hr drive. The house is remarkably simple, modern, updated and super clean. The black reading room was my favorite place in the house. For those who bringing kids, they gave thought of them as well , hidden behind a Murphy door was an area where the kids could have some fun. Very impress overall and whenever we are back in Roanoke, Time on the 10th is where me and family will stay.

We stayed at this beautiful cabin for our anniversary, and it exceeded every expectation. The setting was peaceful and private, with stunning views and cozy, charming interiors that made it feel like a true getaway. The host was fantastic. Jeff was extremely responsive, welcoming, and clearly thoughtful in every detail. From the soft linens and kitchen seasonings to the handwritten note and thoughtful anniversary gift, everything felt curated with care. It was the perfect spot to unwind, reconnect, and celebrate. We can’t wait to return and highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a special stay.

We had an amazing stay at Dave’s place for my VT graduation. The house is stunning, with every detail thoughtfully considered during the renovation. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and I’m now inspired to buy the same couch for my own home. The location is perfect—just a 13-minute drive to downtown Roanoke and 35 minutes to VT. Plus, there's a grocery store nearby for any essentials. Dave was excellent with communication, making our stay even more enjoyable. We loved the fire pit and were delighted by the deer visitors. Highly recommend!!!
