Family-friendly holiday rentals in Lake Wissota

This is our second time staying here. This place is a GEM! We love the dogs and of course the view is amazing with the birds and wildlife!

Our family thrived at Liz’s cabin! The river was perfect for my younger kids—calm and shallow in most areas, great for first-time kayakers. For more adventure, we tried paddling upstream, which was a fun challenge and a great life lesson in perseverance! Downstream and around the cabin is smooth and peaceful, perfect for kids. I recommend bringing a cooler with simple meal ingredients. I packed sandwich supplies but wished I’d brought more—vodka pasta would be ideal here! I made a quick run into town for spaghetti, but options are limited (as Liz notes in her very helpful guide). We also had dinner at Pokegama Lakeside—great food, a beautiful lake view, and an authentic Native American canoe on display! Liz has created a truly magical place. The natural landscaping, cozy cabin details, and high-quality linens made it so comfortable. Thank you, Liz, for such a special stay!

Beautiful lake cabin. Had a lot of fun using the hot tub, kayaking, and sitting around the campfire. Stephanie is very responsive and checked in multiple times to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The cabin itself was kept very clean and very cozy. Would definitely stay again!

This was our second stay here & we will be back again! The property is so beautiful & quiet. The hot tub is really nice & it is so fun to lounge in there while watching/petting/feeding the horses. My son LOVED taking their paddle boat out on their beautiful pond, and my sister & I enjoyed this too. We ended up spending a lot of time on it, & even though the owners and the other guests were somewhere on the property, we didn’t really see anybody else during our time out there (which we appreciated because we weren’t looking to mingle). We cooked all our meals there & there was space in the fridge for everything & they had all the pots, pans, and everything else we needed to make all meals. The beds are comfy & the big window is so beautiful to gaze out of when you wake up. It was nice not hearing any noise from the roads or anything, & i felt like there was enough privacy from the main house & the other air bnb property. Overall a really magical weekend for all three of us :)

This was a truly spectacular place to stay, with beautiful surroundings, excellent amenities, and a very communicative host who accommodated all my needs perfectly. An extremely comfortable cabin and excellent for families. 10/10 and will be back.

This place is "ON" the Flambeau. Yard critters from whitetail, geese, ducks to turkey. Must try a pizza at the South Fork, walking distance.

This place is awesome! An incredible atmosphere. We were able go on long hikes with our dogs, watch live music, have a few beers, and eat fire roasted pizzas (which are delicious) without leaving the property. The cabin we stayed in was very cozy and comfortable. It had temperature control, hot water, and it was very clean. If you are looking to get off the beaten path and disconnect for a few days - I can’t recommend this place more. Sitting by a fire and looking at the stars was gorgeous. The owner is one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure to stay with. Jeff is an excellent communicator and was happy to help us find activities to do in the area. He’s got some amazing ideas to make his facility energy independent and also built a watermelon cannon that is absolutely hilarious to watch shoot watermelons across the property. It’s a unique experience in a beautiful part of Wisconsin. Don’t even debate it - stay at Wedges Creek, you won’t regret it.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at this property. Convenient location for us to see our daughter easy access to the trails and some great recommendations also in their guidebook :-) perfectly comfortable.

So when we pulled up I thought we had the wrong address. I just assumed from the look of the place and the name that this was a stand alone cabin. It was exactly like the photos show and we had a great time being all together instead of in 3 different hotel rooms! Loved the poker table to play games!! Thank you so much!

Beth was awesome to work with. Extremely responsive, and so kind and flexible to allow us to check in early with our baby so she could catch a nap. We used this space with friends for a wedding in that area and it was perfect. Highly recommend staying here.

We were able to unwind and relax. There was a large picture window facing the lake. It was not unusual to see a doe with her fawn eating clover through the picture window early in the morning. We played pool in the evening and hung out. There were trails we explored and we hunted mushrooms. We mostly just took pictures of the mushrooms. We left the mushrooms for the wildlife to eat. There is always something to do at the Ruffed Grouse Lodge. Or not if you just wish to relax.

We loved our 3rd stay at Mia’s Black Dog Lodge. It is very clean and well-supplied. The lodge fits our needs for a small ladies retreat perfectly.

Great place for our family reunion (10 adults and 1 kid)! Highly recommended for a peaceful retreat with beautiful surroundings right on the lake.

A beautiful property with stunning views of Lake Pepin / the Mississippi River -- this was a wonderful home base for a weekend visiting studios during the annual Fresh Art Tour, and exploring nearby Maiden Rock, Stockholm and Pepin. We had a great time and would have loved to stay longer if we could. Thanks for sharing your home with us

My son and I had a great stay at Serendipity! Bob and Lisa's place was a perfect getaway from the city. Bob and Lisa were great communicators and checked to make sure our stay was going well. The space itself was perfect for the 2 of us. The lake is right outside the door and we took advantage of the offered kayaks to get out on the water. We caught better than 50 fish right off the dock! We are already planning our return trip next summer!

Emily was an excellent host. She was extremely responsive and accommodating. There was a minor issue/mix-up when I first arrived; I reached out to her and she responded almost immediately and had things resolved within a matter of minutes. The cabin has the essentials that you need but it's the outdoor space that's the real gem here. There's so much room to explore and just wander about. You can really have an adventure without even leaving the property. The place was very quiet and peaceful; very rarely did I hear any cars drive by or hear any noise from neighboring cabins. I had my dog with me and she absolutely LOVED it here. We spent most of our time outside but in the evenings and when the weather wasn't as nice, the cabin offered a comfy and cozy space for us to relax. I would definitely visit again.

We had a great stay. The place was very comfortable, kitchen was equipped with everything you would need. Bed was comfortable. The house was immaculately cleaned. We give it 5 stars! We would definitely stay there again if ever visiting La Crosse again.

I was looking for something special….someplace a little out of the ordinary to drag my husband off to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. When I say drag, I just mean he is a homebody and prefers to stay home, do lawn work and sleep in his own bed…going away for the weekend is not his cup of tea. When I saw the cabin on a lake made from a repurposed box car, I knew I had found a place to entice my old homebody! Sue and Jeff’s boxcar did not disappoint. It is in a peaceful lovely location, with a nice deck and just a few steps right down to the very clear and tranquil Cable Lake. I loved the eclectic decor touches, my husband loved the comfy bed and lakeside location. To seal the deal, my husband is a retired railroad engineer and instructor so the idea of living in a boxcar for the weekend was kind of appealing! It is spacious and has everything you could need for an enjoyable getaway!

We have been staying at Carisa's place for years and it's always an awesome experience. We love Galesville and the surrounding area. This year we were really excited to bring our 8 month old for the first time. Carisa provided a brand new pack and play, making it one less thing we had to bring. We felt super at home and can't wait to return!

We had a fabulous stay! From booking until we checked out! Holly was very accommodating and sent a list of activities we could do with our kids while my husband was in town for a business trip! The house is secluded and very peaceful! However, close to anywhere we wanted to go! Plenty of room in the driveway for our kids to ride scooters and play! We had a fabulous trip and wonderful stay!

Beautiful property and cabin. I loved how the host posted helpful friendly notes and labels in various spots to make staying there and finding things easy. Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom all well stocked. I loved all the windows and beauty of the pines seen through them. Easy walk down to the river. Very clean and roomy.
