The village is 8 km from Maria Alm and 14 km from Saalfelden. Other places nearby: Zell am See can be reached in 30 minutes after 28 km and Dienten am Hochkönig after 7 km in 10 minutes. Hinterthal is located at the end of a valley and in winter there is a direct connection to the Hochkönig ski swing with 33 lifts and 120 km of slopes. Snow-safe from Christmas to Easter. 40 km of groomed trails in the area also make the heart of a cross-country skier beat faster.
