Inside, go up the spiral stairs to the cozy mezzanine bedroom (please note that it's low up there). The unique stairs are from the old star observatory on Titirangi (the local maunga/mountain)! Pōhatu, meaning stone in Maori, is a beautiful 1925 Arts & Crafts house built by one of regions wealthiest landowners. Lovingly restored in 2020, the guest room is self contained and absorbs the morning sun. Pohatu is located beside the Waimata River, on a 3000m2 section surrounded by mature trees and gardens which afford privacy for sitting outside with your favourite beverage. The property is a short walk to the beach, shops, bars and restaurants.

From the beginning it was perfect. Easy clear instructions for lockbox. Upon opening the door, them home felt and smelled nice and clean. My kids and family were in awe of the house as a whole. An absolute perfect home away from home, couldn't recommend more. House is very warm with the heat pump and it also has the addition of a fire place too with a woodshed at the back! Everything was so comfortable, my kids loved the spa bath the most! Everything was amazing, thank you Tina we very much enjoyed our stay. Meitaki ma'ata, Memory 🌺

We stayed at Pamela's home for a month in April/May. The home was conveniently located for everything we did in Gisborne and was very clean and spacious!! Amanda was helpful with any inquiries we had and graciously provided fresh linens weekly. It was nice to have a tub and large bathroom (no electric outlets took some getting used to for us but learned that is common for safety reasons). Would stay again! Thank you!

It was our 2nd stay at Ellie's house and we love it. It is a beautiful property, with a 100% amazing river view. It was great to watch the waka's every morning and evening. Ellie is a great host, left us to it, but was there if we needed her, and I could not recommend her place any higher. If possible, we will re book every time we are in Gisborne

Stunning location. Stepping out onto the beach was absolutely divine Geraldine was a lovely host, responsive and helpful. Very cute location. I would love to go back. Very doable to get to Gisborne especially if you hire a car.
