  • Walk while seeing salmon spawn
A 30 minute drive to Goldstream Park on the Malahat meeting at the sign post in the parking lot. We will walk the banks of the river to the Nature House to learn some basics of the area and of the local animals and flora. We will then return to the river to observe the salmon spawning, noting their various stages of spawning and other distinct changes in behaviour. "Goldstream has a world-class salmon spawning stream with thousands of Chum Salmon returning each year. Bright colours and hooked jaws develop on male Chum salmon after they enter breeding streams." This is a nine-week display starting mid-October of salmon swimming up Goldstream to spawn and die. It is a unique opportunity to be up close and personal with nature in action. With salmon spawning and dying comes other animals as well including birds of prey such as bald eagles to feast on the dead carcasses. We will spend a maximum total of 90 minutes at Goldstream Park. Snacks (apples or snack bars) will be provided to participants. We encourage the use of personal water bottles for our guests. COVID: All guests must abide by the 6 feet or 2 meter rule when on this experience. No exceptions unless family participants. I will wear a face covering. Other things to note This is an experience for the entire family. The trails are flat and there is an easy 10 minute walk to the Nature house through the forest. Guests should wear good runners or boots and dress for the weather. I will bring a good camera to take pictures for you to keep as memories.
