Welcome to La-de-da! We are located in beautiful, rural Howardsville, Virginia with convenient access to all the recreational amenities the James River has to offer. We are a VERY scenic 35 minutes to Wintergreen, all the wineries, breweries, distilleries and orchards in the region and great hiking trails! We are far enough outside of the cities of Charlottesville and Scottsville to provide peace and quiet, but just a scenic 20 minute drive to Scottsville and 40 minutes to Charlottesville.

The newly renovated home was initially built to house workers from a soapstone quarry located on the property. During the remodel, we even found rationing coupons from 1945 hidden in the walls!

This was a lovely place to stay down in Nelson County. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bed comfortable, and I enjoyed having some quiet reading time in the living area. Amy is very communicative and was able to accommodate a last-minute request to extend my stay. I would definitely stay here again.

Visited from DC, looking for a weekend getaway. We got what we were looking for. The expectations were well managed by the photos and description. The space was really comfortable—all kitchen necessities available (we made breakfast both mornings), living room with streaming capabilities, bathroom with shower and tub, and one bedroom (cozy). It felt like one of those Safari hotels where the animals are right outside your window, except here it was cows and their calves—which was cool for us not being around farms very often. Surprisingly, there was no smell inside or outside on the property with all the animals. There were flies, but we kept the doors closed and there were no issues with bugs. Mattress was pretty firm. Plenty of seating outside (benches, rocking chairs, tall boys). Pasture and view of mountains were beautiful. The host was responsive and friendly. Loved the stay here and already talking about visiting again!

Wonderful place to stay! The house was spotless and had spacious living areas. The kitchen was beautiful, clean, and fully stocked. The bedroom was comfy and the property as a whole was super peaceful. Me and my husband loved the overhead fans, the spacious shower/bathroom, and the easy check-in. I would definitely stay here again if we were in the area! This historic home deserves to be seen and cherished by future guests.

Sherry and her husband were great hosts! The apartment was awesome. There were so many personal touches and amenities that we really appreciated. We really didn’t get to enjoy much of these because we were attending graduation ceremonies and related activities around campus and separate parties. We would definitely love to come back here to really enjoy it. We definitely highly recommend the Captain’s Quarters to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful place to stay.

Our stay at Wes and Tessa’s winery was amazing. They were wonderful hosts and very welcoming! Tessa was very communicative from the beginning. The house was perfect for our group with a kitchen that was fully equipped with everything we needed to make breakfast each morning for our large group! We loved the peaceful location, and getting to walk down the lane to have a wine tasting and pizza on a slow afternoon was wonderful! We would definitely stay here again if we’re in the area.
