Birch Bothy, peaceful rural retreat

LizzieRating, 5 stars2 months ago
A really lovely stay. Even though it’s early in the season we loved the herb garden just outside. The cowslips on the table and breakfast ingredients were a lovely touch. Shower had good heat and power. Woodburner was super easy to use with kindling, newspapers and logs provided. For those bringing food it has everything you need, but note there’s no oven. Microwave and hob cover an awful lot of cooking options though. There’s a small icebox in the fridge too. Overall a lovely stay, only one comment being that I think the bed is foldable and when I sat down hard once I though I was about to be folded into the bed which gave me a little shock 😂 Ross was great.

North Pennines, walking, dogs woof!

Martin was lovely and responded straight away ,he gave all the information needed and was very clear with instructions. The cottage was beautiful inside and out and there’s a lot to do from board games to instruments, tvs, books and fire pit outside. It has something to keep everyone entertained. The beds were comfy and it was a cozy environment.Theres a hare and hound pub on the doorstep which does nice food and drinks with an outside seating area with a view of a lake, and there’s a nice walk to a gorgeous waterfall next door .All around a stunning place.

Village property - Wayside Cottage DH8 9NL

Spacious and comfortable cottage ideal for a couple in a pretty village by the moors. We enjoyed visiting the surroundings including the city of Durham and Beamish Open Air Museum as well as castles and countryside. On street parking was no problem as we always parked in front of the cottage.

Garden Cottage in tranquil North Pennine valley

We loved our stay at the cottage. Peter and his family were kind hosts, allowing free access to the beautiful grounds at their property. Our puppy loved being able to chase the resident dog (Betty) around the secure garden, a first for her! The cottage is immaculate and even nicer than the photos. The location was perfect for quiet long walks, remaining unspoiled from tourism. It really was lovely and we’d love to come back.

A beautiful peaceful spot surrounded by beautiful countryside and views. We particularly loved the field with the horse behind the house. Beautifully decorated. Comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen.

Stunning views nr Lake District, spacious & snug

SarahRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
What an absolutely stunning location! We wanted a relaxing break and this is exactly what we got. Vicki and Tom have created something really special. The Hayloft is small yet had everything we needed for a family of 5. There were plenty of books and games to enjoy. Vicki greeted us at the door, making us feel welcome and had left us some homemade treats. The kids had a blast, exploring the grounds, playing on the trampoline and climbing the nearby hill to catch a glimpse of the fighter jets flying overhead. There was a lovely walk to the river and you can roam freely over the fields. We enjoyed watching the sheep and horses roam and also saw deer, rabbits, frogs and kestrels. The house has a view of the Settle-Carlisle railway so we enjoyed a bit of train spotting too. There was so much to soak up before we even thought about heading out. The nearby town of Kirkby Stephen had plenty of shops and we enjoyed a meal from The Mango Tree Indian. We would 100% recommend a stay here!

Woodcroft Farm-secluded-scenic-peaceful-relaxing

A lovely relaxing stay at this wonderful peaceful cottage. Felt like a home from home, so much so that we've just booked to stay again in July! The cottage had everything we needed and more. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, very quiet, near a good market town with independent shops (butcher, baker, vegetable shop, craft shops). Within easy reach of lots of places to visit in an area of the country that we hadn't really explored before - went on a guided tour of Durham Cathedral, rode on the Weardale Railway and visited Beamish Living History open-air museum. Lovely to meet Sarah, very welcoming and enjoyed talking to her - thank you for the cakes. Sarah sent good recommendations before our trip for food so we could book, including Buen Appetito in Wolsingham and The Fox and Hounds in Cotherstone.
