Places to stay in Westmore
For a short time a special discount will be offered for any three night stay during this winter. Now is the time to enjoy a winter in the Northeast Kingdom. 10-15% discount when booked. This spacious house is overlooking Lake Willoughby with breath taking views. The house is on a dead end road. My place is good for couples, business travelers, and families. While relaxing in the Great room enjoy the ever changing views including wildlife. So much to explore and do in the North East Kingdom.
The bathrooms have recently been remodeled and the kitchen is next. We are offering the house at a reduced rate until the kitchen is done. The three season enclosed porch does have a pull out couch for those who enjoy waking up to the sunrise. The Great room with the covered porch is most guests favorite where they spend time relaxing enjoying the breath-taking views.
Lake Willoughby, Westmore is a very special area with so much natural beauty. Hiking trails, beaches, local fairs, farmers markets, and special celebrations allow opportunities for you to enjoy the area. Burke Mountain is 30 minutes away and Jay Peak is an hour away.
  • This place is absolutely amazing! It’s so peaceful and the views are stellar. Donna was very easy to communicate with and very kind. We will definitely be back, beyond what we expected. Thanks Donna!

  • We loved staying at Donna’s place in Westmore. The view from the house in amazing. Very private location. The house had all the amenities we needed. The bedrooms and living areas are super cozy. The bathrooms are amazing. The ‘locals’ are very friendly. We highly recommend.

  • I stayed at Donna’s beautiful home. Even with it being winter time, it was absolutely amazing. The views were unbelievable. The home was impeccable. Very clean. It was just simply a perfect stay! I especially loved the shower and tub to relax in! Plus Donna was very responsive, immediately answered my messages and was wonderful to deal with. Highly recommend checking out her beautiful home and enjoy a great stay! I will be back for fall time😍

  • My boyfriend and I were looking for a quiet getaway after the holidays. Donna’s place was perfect! We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace and looking out at the insanely beautiful view. The updated master bathroom has a steam shower which was a pleasant surprise. Donna was a great host and provided info about the area. We had never heard of Lake Willoughby before and were totally surprised by their resemblance to Norwegian fjords (Stunning glacial lake between two mountains). We hiked Mount Pisgah, well worth it for the view!

    Jessie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Donna’s house is at a great location!! We enjoyed the sun set from living room couch, and played games by the fireplace!! And everyone loved the standing shower in the Master bathroom!! This is perfect spot to enjoy winter and summer activities!! The house was very clean!! Luckily sky was so clean and we were able to do star gazing from out side of the house!! This was something not planned so this was surprise for us!! Since this area is kind a remote if you are coming from city then the “Willoughby Lake Store” has almost everything if you forget any basic things to take it with you.

  • Everything was great! We had a lovely girls weekend. Super comfortable and cozy. Loved the fireplace and the cozy couch, comfy beds and stunning view from the front porch. Beautiful spot. Friendly neighbor even offered us dry firewood - amazing! Kitchen update will be awesome. Donna was super responsive. Would definitely come back!

Tiny, cozy, off-grid camp cabin on 14 acres in an old orchard clearing in the forest in the Lake Willoughby town of Westmore. Being off-grid, the cabin has no electricity, heats with a wood stove, and facilities are an outhouse with a composting toilet. Nestled in the majestic Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, sleep tucked in a loft. In the warmer months, have a glass of wine by the fire under the stars, in winter, by the wood stove. Enjoy... See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=574OLxvJmYM
In the warm months, stomp the streams that run the property and put your toes in Lake Willoughby as you sip coffee in the morning. Throughout the year, draw water from the stream. Launch your kayak or go mountain biking. In the winter months, cross-country or downhill ski at Burke, Craftsbury, local state and national parks, or Kingdom Trails Association. Fat bike winter or summer. Enjoy...
Our neighborhood consists of a few homes which share Coles Mountain and the eye-popping views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. There is a golf course run by Mr. Cole, who is a maple sugaring master, born on the mountain some time ago. There is an amazing wedding venue called the Little Wedding Barn run by his daughter with stunning views.
  • Wonderful place! Very quiet region with good trekking. We had a very good stay. The communication with Amy is very simple and all the instructions are very clear. I really recommend this place.

  • Really great off the grid location, beautiful in the Fall. Would come back again!

  • We had a great time ! This place is awesome if you want to relax surrounded by the nature <3 :-)

    Steve2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect, adorable cabin. Clean and meticulously organized. A fun tree swing. Not as buggy as we expected. Convenient to Lake Willoughby but off the beaten path. The cutest, cleanest outhouse ever.

    Cristin2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a haven. You feel as if you're in your own magical world, a world that (thank you Amy and Fire Guru!) has been very thoughtfully arranged. The cabin, though small, feels inviting, cozy, and comforting, with everything in its right place. A stream runs nearby (a one minute walk into the forest) for a cool morning dip, and the lake is a pretty drive away (perhaps three minutes). I am eager to return!

    Jacob2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amy & Brian's cabin is one of the most magical places we've had the pleasure of staying. Not only is the cabin perfect, but the property it lies on is absolutely gorgeous. Think old growth apple trees under a deep blue sky, with a nice breeze blowing through the open field. It's off the beaten path, making it truly private, while also being just up the road from the lake and other amenities. The cabin itself was easy to find and even easier to relax into. It's one of those places where you just immediately feel at home. The care and planning that went into the property is quite apparent, with a beautiful (seriously) outhouse, outdoor solar shower, large stone-lined fire pit, picnic table w/ umbrella, chairs, wash basin, etc. There are mini gardens scattered about and birds chirping. It's truly a happy place to be. The nighttime revealed one of the clearest skies we've seen in a LONG time, with countless shooting stars. The spiral arms of the Milky Way were very visible. A thunderstorm rolled in around bedtime and lulled us to sleep. The sleeping loft has two large windows that push open so you can keep them open even during the rain. Like other reviews mention, the battery powered LED lighting (candles/led strips) are generously located in every nook of the cabin, along with solar lighting in front of the outhouse, making it more than easy to find your way outside or hang out and play card games in the cabin at night. Even if Lake Willoughby wasn't 5 minutes down the road, this place would be worth a stay, but seeing that the lake is so close, it just adds to the allure. We easily popped our kayak into the lake at the closest boat launch and adventured for hours. A quick trip to Lyndonville offered a wonderful diner for breakfast as well as lunch at a delicious deli/store, along with a little resupply at a local market. Do not hesitate to stay here. Unplug, relax, and revitalize.

    Matt2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beyond cute. If you're looking for a very peaceful getaway, this would be it.

    Jacquelyn2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to get away from it all. Amy’s tiny house was beautiful and felt like you had your own private oasis. Our time here flew by and we will definitely return to see this property in the winter.

Sleep peacefully to the sound of the running brook. My home is located on a private lane across from majestic Lake Willoughby with a cozy room for you with two comfy single beds. Perfect for 1 guest or two. Close to local hiking, bike trails, and beaches at both north and south ends of the lake. Country store with Pizza & Deli within walking distance. Local pub & restaurants nearby. Boat access across road. Come and visit --Your room is always ready!
Come on in and make yourself at home. Your room is upstairs on the left, with 2 single beds, a bureau and a rack with hangers for clothing. The room has a woodsy view with sounds of the brook to lull you into a restful sleep. Bathroom has clawfoot tub/shower. If we have other guests, the bath is shared.
The house is located in a small village of Westmore. My place is situated directly across the road from the lake and I dont have any immediate access to the lake, except where I keep the kayak, up the road a piece, but it is not the best place for swimming. There is a great little country store within walking distance which has a deli, pizza and baked goods. There are several restaurants for a short drive and one directly up the road which is open mostly during the summer.
  • This is my second time staying with Susan. Great place!

    Anastasia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for a winter getaway. Susan is a wonderful host and we loved her home - it has character and ambiance and really good vibes. She stayed up late to greet us and was friendly, open and super helpful. The wifi in the house is great. The lake is a short 5 minute walk down the driveway and it was very cool watching the ice fishers. Willoughby Lake state park (10 minute drive) has free groomed (ish) cross country ski trails and a very good hike to the top of Mt Pisgah.

  • Had another nice stay at Mom's house (we were there last Fall). The snow and cold prevented us from doing what we had planned but Mom's house was toasty warm. It snowed for 3 days and Ron made sure we were plowed out. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the dogs loved having a safe place to run. We hope to come back in the Spring or Summer when more hiking trails are accessible.

    Jen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the best Air BNB locaction I have stayed in. My father & I came up to snowmobile and this beautiful homestead is a snowmobilers paridise. The house was cute, with amazing views...you can't beat it. Farmer Ron was so generous and kind with some truck problems. He was super quick to help and make sure we were all set to go! I will be back before the snow melts for another trip!

    Kalie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house was nestled at the top of a dead end road. Very quiet and breathtaking views. Sentinal Rock state park is a stones throw away. We would reccomend to anyone looking to explore Vermont's Northeat Kingdom.

  • Moms House When you go that far into the country, and up a dead end road you somehow disconnect, and a relaxed pace falls over you. So nice to slow down and soak in the Panoramic views of the mountains. Moms House is just like being at my grandmothers house, with every homey touch you could dream of! Super clean, smells good, comfy bed, full kitchen for meals. Debbie is very quick with responses and very reliable to set everything up perfectly for your stay at Mom’s House❤️

    Andi2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

Enjoy a quiet stay in the Vermont countryside. We live off a dirt road in a small town with plenty of land to explore. We are on 23 acres of forest and field and guests are free to roam about as they like. We have two indoor Australian Cattle dogs who are both friendly and harmless, but if you are not much of a dog person this might not be the right fit for you! Most of our time is spent outdoors or working, so the house is typically fairly quiet, and we are looking forward to sharing our home!
Although we live in a quiet town, driving 15-20 minutes in most directions will get you to different towns with stores, restaurants, lakes, parks, and places to explore such as; Newport, Derby, Barton, Orleans, Lake Willoughby. We are also about 25 minutes from the Canadian border, and 20 minutes to I-91.
  • It was a bit of a trek after a foot of snow but honestly not bad at all and we have 4wd but didn’t need it. Seriously transported! We had a fabulous stay. We had a long drive and just needed a quiet evening. It was snowing and beautiful! The dogs are very cute. They listen to their owners well. The room is like a small apartment. Very comfy bed and couch. Cute desk. And great view of tree line. I recommend a snowy stay! Bathroom is down stairs which could be a problem for some but not for us!

  • Elizabeth was an incredible host. She is truly pet friendly and the place is super cute! Did you know their walls are made of straw?! Strawbale construction?? Super cool! The house was well insulated from the freezing winter weather and the woodburning stove kept us nice and cozy throughout our stay. We bonded over The Office on Netflix and she even let our doggo out while we went skiing. Oh and her doggos, May and Shep, were super sweet and loving. Will definitely be back!

My home is an eclectic cottage filled with interesting art, in a light airy space, a short walk to Lake Willoughby, with a great porch and yard to hang out in.
  • A very charming home! Great location and a wonderful host!

    Kristy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Marysue's place is a unique and rewarding experience. The lake and hiking trails are nearby and the house is lovely, interesting, comfortable and practical. It's a very special place.

    Christine2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Marysue was a great host! The cottage was wonderful with everything we needed in a great location! Sunsets were magnificent just 1.5miles up the road at Sentinel Rock. Thanks!

    Becca2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful girls’ weekend retreat at Marysu’s cottage. We enjoyed ice cream from the local store, walks along the water and the beach as well as a hike on Mount Pisgah. But, even more so, we enjoyed drinking coffee on the porch, curling up in chairs with the many books throughout the house, and exploring all the little knick knacks that make this home so unique. The price and value cannot be beat!

    Emma2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This has it all! A welcoming host, excellent home with everything you could need and terrific location. Marysue was a pleasure to meet and rent from, the house is warm and very comfortable and it’s a very short walk to Lake Willoughby.

    Mathew2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a cozy cottage a block away from Lake Willoughby, an easy walk to the "center" of Westmore. Just up the hill is the amazing Sentinel Rock State Park. Worth the 5 minute drive for the history and the view. The cottage is filled with art, old home vibes, nooks and crannies, and comfortable places to relax. This is not a fancy place, but a place well loved and full of life. We felt completely at home. Generously simple breakfast things were provided. Lots of towels. Plenty of dishes/glasses, etc.. No AC, but lots of good fresh air ventilation, and the sound of a burbling brook right up against the house. There are a few decent places to get lunch and dinner within 5 minutes. Drive a little longer for more options.

  • True country living!!

    Ryan2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • The space was very cozy and wonderful to stay in. We walked down to the lake in the evenings for sunset walks and drove up to find a beautiful view on the top of the road at a small state park up there. Location was amazing and the space is well loved by Marysue.

  • Gorgeous views and beautiful campsites. The hike in was great and you feel on top of the world once you get to the campsites

    Savannah2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was great at answering questions. He reserved camp 1 for us. AMAZING views, especially at sunset. It's a bit hidden, so easier to arrive in daylight.

    Ryan2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Philip's property and camping sites are purely magical! The photos don't do the views any justice. They are absolutely stunning in person. Sitting by the edge of the site enjoying the calm breeze while looking out over the treetops lining the blue skies above the sunshine reflecting off the lake below with my young son was one of the most perfect moments of my life. All three sites have stunning views but we chose the third to have more privacy. There were other people camping on sites 1 and 2 and another down by one of the many structures built around the property but no one bothered anyone else and all were friendly when we passed each other. You can hear some noise from the lake below but overall, it is incredibly peaceful and we enjoyed a nice fire in the fire circle provided while gazing at the full sky of stars at night. Philip was friendly and quick to respond to our questions. He was available by phone to help us find the site when we arrived. Like others said, there is a bit of a hike to the sites. The trail to the first site takes about 3-5 minutes. To the third site took around 7-10 minutes. We don't have much experience hiking beyond large, flat trails and struggled to stay on the path when we first arrived (luckily Philip was readily available by phone and helped us get back on track!) and afterwards, while making trips to and from our car. My wife left small piles of pine cones along the trail to help us and others find the way. Hope it helps some of the other less experienced adventurers find their way to all three of the sites! We also left behind some extra firewood by the trail entrance. We can't wait to stay at this gem again! Thank you, Philip for sharing this beautiful place with others. We are so grateful.

  • Zen location, stellar views, the perfect Vermont haven to chill out with nature and enjoy this wonderful state! This is my 3rd time here, and definitely coming back!

    Jesse2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • 10/10! Philips sites are amazing. Site 1 has incredible views, but you may encounter some people if you chose that site as many people have been going to that area for years with their families to see the sunsets - which would still totally be worth it regardless, everyone in the area is so nice anyway! We chose site 3 only because it was the most secluded. All 3 sites are a really good size, we had a 9 person tent, a grill, and a table set up with still plenty of room. There were people at site 2, but we didn’t hear them, although we became friends and ended up hanging out! The walk was about 5 minutes into the woods, which sucks when you’re weak like me, but it was doable if you pack light! (I’d still do it again no questions asked) We knew to pack light from reading previous reviews, so instead of risking forgetting something we just packed everything we would’ve for a normal camping trip, and left half of what we brought in the truck until we needed it. I wish I could attach pictures, because nothing beats the views you get at these sites. I’ve already recommended the sites to 3 people who saw pictures of mine, and they can’t wait to check it out. There’s a lake at the bottom of the hill, but if you want to drive about 15 minutes, you need to check out Lake Willoughby while you’re there. So many beautiful places all around the area. We’ll definitely be back, thanks for sharing your property with us Philip!

    Kimberly2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great view and location. Quiet and we had a great time. Make sure to find wood for your fire before getting there as it is really expensive at the grocery store.

    David2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you like backpacking to a private beautiful camp spot this is for you! It is primitive but Philip built a convenient fire pit and small bench. There were two other campers next to us but we did not see or hear them.

    Diane2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Philip is a great guy with an absolutely stunning property! Highly recommend to both locals looking for a quiet place, and to those hoping to truly experience Vermont for the first time!

    Dominic2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Janelle and Kyle’s place was a great choice for us. The location is really nice, remote up in the mountains. Super quiet and relaxing for us coming from Boston. Janelle and Kyle were great hosts; they were extremely friendly and inviting and offered us great local tips as well. We even had a few off-chance connections we noticed through talking. The place itself was cleaned and convenient. The bed was also really comfortable which was appreciated after a lot of biking. Absolutely would stay here again. Highly recommend!

  • If you want to be immersed in rural Vermont and get the detachment from your hectic life then Colleen and Jon's spot is the place for you. With very personal touches and quick responses to any inquiry you have expect to feel spoiled Sutton. We were hoping to rent some snowshoes to trek around the property, and our hosts provided their own - you're dealing with some genuine people to say the least. Can't give this listing a better rating, and we certainly hope to return in the future!

Our guest house is close to many local activities and attractions, including Kingdom Trails mountain biking, V.A.S.T. trail snowmobiling, Burke Mountain Resort and beautiful Lake Willoughby. A detached studio with a full kitchen including a refrigerator, range with oven, toaster, coffee pot, silverware, glassware, and cookware. The bathroom has an upright shower, and full linens and towels are provided. We invite you to come stay with us and spend time seeing what Northern Vermont has to offer.
Our studio style guesthouse is perfect for couples or small families looking to get away for a vacation in a beautiful area hidden away in Northeast Vermont. Off the beaten path and named for our location on an elevation above the larger towns to the south, you'll find some of the best outdoor recreation in the country. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, boating, and a glacial lake only a few minutes away from where you'll be staying. You will have the entire place to yourself, with dedicated parking and a private driveway. We keep the house clean and offer free WiFi and satellite TV.

  • I highly recommend the Hilltop Guesthouse for anyone traveling through Vermont! It was such a fun place to spend the night. The guesthouse was very easy to find, with well-labeled signs close to a well-marked and paved road. The hosts really thought of everything: plenty of plates and pans to cook with in the kitchen, lots of channels on the TV, coffee to get you started in the morning, an ice scraper for the car—you name it, the Hilltop Guesthouse had it. The Wifi was fast and the guesthouse stayed warm all night, despite being a very generous size. The bed and couch were comfortable too! The space is super private and feels secluded, with plenty of trees, birds, and wildlife. A great value and a lovely experience, if you're looking for a Vermont Airbnb this is the one!

    John2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lila and Aaron were outstanding hosts! Super communicative and helpful. The guest house is really cute and the twinkle lights lining the path from the parking to the house were helpful and adorable. The path was well shoveled out and easy to walk down.

  • Overall we had such a great stay here and would definitely return in the future.

    Jackie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little cabin. It does get tight with two people and sports gear (ice climbing), but a nice kitchen space, which is useful since there’s not much dining in the area. A great place for enjoying Lake Willoughby.

    Kel2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy space for two. Affordable and within easy distance to the area's fun outdoor amenities. For those sensitive to sound, do note that the furnace hums around 35 dBA periodically.

The house is located at the south end of the lake, nestled between Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Hor with access to multiple trails for hiking. Our dock across the street allows easy entrance for kayaks, paddle boards, and swimming. Lake Willoughby is a crystal clear lake stocked with fish from the local hatchery. (Check lake boating laws for Willoughby Lake for use of certain water crafts.) The house is located about 10 miles from the Northeast Kingdom Trails. Plenty of parking on premises.
With over 10 acres of land, there is plenty of parking on the property, which makes it convenient for bike or boat trailers. There is a dock located across from the driveway, which provides easy access for kayaks and paddleboards. White Caps Campground is located next to this lake house that rents paddleboards and kayaks. The store prepares food and has some groceries. There is a mountain bike trail in Burke that is only about 10 miles away. Great dining is available within 10 miles of this property.
This location is close to Burke Mountain and the NEK bike trails. It’s just down the road from the access points to the hiking trails. There’s a dock for easy entrance to Lake Willoughby on the property.
  • This place is beautiful and clean, and it has an amazing view to the lake. The lake is very beautiful itself. Sarah and Steve are great hosts and very responsive. They offered us to use their kayaks, which was wonderful. We had a blast there, and everything was amazing about our stay. We hope to come back soon.

    Ali2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a simple, comfortable house -- with a million dollar view at spectacular Lake Willoughby! The house is warm, with comfy beds sufficient for the whole family, a living room with woodstove and board games galore, a basic functional kitchen with all the pots and pans etc. for cooking up a winter batch of soup and a grill outside for summer barbecues. A public beach with great swimming (gentle slope and sandy bottom, perfect for kids) is right across the street, which is also the trailhead for Willoughby's southern shore loop trail. The deli at White Caps campground next door serves breakfast and lunch. The house makes the perfect base for a Northeast Kingdom vacation, hiking up Mount Pisgah, rock climbing, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. In addition to the state park at Willoughby, Brighton State Park at Island Pond is a short drive away, as is the NorthWoods Stewardship center (with it's great demonstration forest and an interpretive trail featuring the foundations and cellar holes of the former Gardner farm), and the Nulhegan Basin visitor's center at the Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuge.

  • If you are debating on staying at Sallie's or somewhere closer to town, stay at Sallies! This was a healing experience for me. I recommend bundling up and sitting on the back porch + looking at the stars. I didn't get to meet Sallie for long but it is evident how sweet and caring she is. Her pets are hilarious, welcoming and everything I needed after missing my two cats from being on the road for a few days. Thank you Sallie for sharing your special home with us!

  • This was a great value for a quick one night stay for me. The location is gorgeous, it was easy to find, and super easy to check in and out. The room was comfortable, I had plenty of privacy, overall it was ideal for an inexpensive and comfortable space to sleep. Cute, friendly kitties to pet made it feel like home!

  • I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Sallie’s place. She owns a little piece of heaven and you will not be disappointed. The cottage is close to Crescent and Willoughby Lakes as well as Burke Mountain....take a swim and a bike ride the same day. I loved walking around the pond and relaxing on the porch with the cats and dogs. Sallie also provided STRONG coffee in the morning and organic apples for my trip back home. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend!

  • One of the best camp sites I have stayed at in Vermont. Views are amazing and Philip was very helpful.

    Ezra2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice camping spot with breath taking view :) Philip was helpful while communicating and the camping spot is easy to reach by foot ( only like 5 minutes walk ) We were only there for one night but, I keep this place in mind for a future camping trip !!!!

    Karine2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great secluded spot away from the packed campgrounds with outstanding views of Crystal Lake. Philip was helpful in guiding us through the beautiful woods to the campsite. It was about a 5 minute walk to the car. The spot is very primitive, meaning no amenities and no bed. We only had a tent with us. However there are bathrooms and showers that cost $2 per day to use on the same road. Its not realistically in walking distance but it's definitely handy if you're staying a couple days. Hands down the best camping spot I've ever been to and I would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to go back!

Mere steps from the rushing Passumpsic River and with clear views of Burke Mountain Ski Resort, enjoy the quiet and cozy guest suite of this sun soaked Chalet home. Located a few miles north of the Village of East Burke off Vermont Route 114, this location offers quick and easy access to Burke Mountain, Kingdom Trials and the VAST trail system. Set on 13 quiet and private acres bordered by the river, it is great for enjoying a waterside campfire, hiking the woods or having a summer swim.
This suite consists of a combination living room, kitchenette, dinette. Also a bathroom and bedroom which sleeps 5 containing a queen bed and a bunk bed with a queen bottom bunk and twin top bunk. Two internet connected TVs are available in the space, one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

  • I was one of the first guests to stay at this new place in Burke. I found it to be a really great value. It is just a few minutes north of Burke Mtn, East Burke, and Kingdom Trails. It has wonderful views of Burke Mtn. The space is, well, very spacious, occupying the entire basement area of the house, with a big living room, big bedroom, and big bathroom area. Groups with lots of ski, climbing, or other gear will really appreciate the space for sorting, drying, and organizing gear. The bedroom has a large bed (queen?) and a bunk bed. There is a Roku TV screen in there (no TV in the living room, but TV isn't why you go to the Northeast Kingdom). The kitchen area, which is essentially part of the large living room area, is a bit limited, so keep your meal prep simple. The hosts are quite friendly and communicative, while allowing you your privacy. All in all, this new offering in Burke is an excellent value and a fantastic value--I highly recommend booking it for your Northeast Kingdom adventures.

Birdhous in the heart of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Right off of Route 16 and less than a mile from interstate 91 for easy access to area attractions or rest along your route. This season, we're offering our guests room by room rentals, hoping to connect more with our guests and to bring better energy into our hous than has been offered when renting the whole place as a private space.
This home functions as a residential agricultural incubator in the warm months and is available as a cozy nest for travelers during the cold ones. Our hous is a budget, no-frills, basic amenities kind of place, but we'll be happy to rise to the occasion if you let us know what you need! The toilet is separate from the bath to allow for long uninterrupted periods in the tub.
  • Budget-Friendly. As advertised. Easy access. Need-to-know communication. Water is extremely sulfur-laden. I hope you don't have a phobia of Chickens

    Very quiet dead end road.
  • The house is a hidden gem! The basement is warm and lovely and comfortably fits 4 people. There is a door that takes you directly outside from the downstairs and you can stand under and overhang to take in the beautiful backyard and view. The upstairs was comfy and homey and the house came stocked with shampoo and conditioner as well as the kitchen had a lot of spices and condiments for our use. The "Downstairs at the BGV" has always been about safety and cleanliness. Now that's a little more enhanced. With Covid-19, getting away has a whole new feeling. Newport VT, in the NEK, is a great place to go. Right on the Canadian border this little City is surrounded by all the things you're looking for, without the crush of people. Come explore, stay & visit family, or friends, or do business. "Downstairs at the BGV" looks forward to welcoming you!
This private suite on the first floor, below the "Big Green Victorian - Upstairs" apartment, offers a large comfortable living room, complete with Cable, DVD, WiFi, and a '60's record player, with vinyls. The bedroom has a Queen-size bed and attached bath (with linens, towels...). A private screened in porch offers an additional social area (depending on the weather!). The temperature in the suite is 68 degrees with high ceilings. Sitting and watching television or reading or ... may be a bit chilly, but there are plenty of lap blankets. But you might want to bring a sweater if you run cold. However, to date no one has commented on the temperature. Some guests have commented that the bathroom is small. Perhaps. I like to think of it as being compact. It has all you need, tub/shower, toilet, sink, and a place to put things. This is an old house with the original bathroom, which was for function not necessarily for comfort. And that, is part of its charm! "Downstairs at the BGV" also has a microwave, and small refrigerator stocked with water. Fresh muffins and fruit provided on first morning of stay, with restaurant recommendations close by. As for coffee, there are three options available: 1. A coffee maker with Green Mountain Coffee can be placed in the space; 2. If you have pods, a Keurig can be placed; 3. If you like coffee but rather not make it, I can provide you with a carafe of fresh brewed coffee each morning (I get up early and it's not a problem at all). A device for boiling water can also be made available for those who prefer Tea. There is an air conditioner in the living room window (placed generally around the first of June and removed mid October).
Newport itself, sits at the southern end of Lake Memphremagog, an Indian name meaning (and fitting), "beautiful waters." From the "BGV" you're a 5-minute walk/ski to the lake where, if you have snowshoes or cross-country skis, can traverse in a variety of directions once the lake is frozen. Best to check before you proceed though. However, cross-country skiing on the bike path is permitted. The top of the lake is in Magog, PQ (Canada), a charming, French Canadian city, 40 minutes away by car. Along the way, the trip takes you through some of the lovely Eastern Township communities providing a variety of seasonal offerings. A passport is required.
  • Thoughtful touches and walking distance to the lakefront. Everything was clean and as portrayed in the listing. Tim was a great host.

    Elizabeth2020-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Conveniently located, terrific amenities, and super hospitality. Tim does a phenomenal job and we were super excited to stay at BGV downstairs for the 2nd year in a row.

    Stephen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • On a cold winter's day this was a wonderful place to be. Morning coffee by the bay window looking over the winter wonderland was perfect. Tim was more than gracious. Means for our morning coffee were provided. Muffins from a local bakery were delicious. Chatting with Tim and learning the house history was great! The space was very clean! The bed comfortable! The local was perfect! We wouldn't hesitate to stay there in future.

Some nice restaurants are within a quick walking distance and Tim supplies coffee every morning. Next time I am in the area, I will definitely be booking my stay here again.

    Colby2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Susan’s space is a lovely old cottage full of lovely furniture and furnishings just across from the lake. The lake is beautiful. When we were there the 5a was closed but a helpful man sent us over the mountain and the road was fine although I wouldn’t want to do that drive in winter, so check with Susan that it’s reopened before you head over. The lake area has a general store which serves food until 6 and any restaurants are a drive away otherwise. The room was light and clean and we watched the sunset over the lake with our pizza from the store. This area was beautiful even though we missed the fall foliage and was worth the trip and we would recommend Susan’s place as your stop over.

    Noel2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The view outside the window made my day. it overlooks the yard and the lake and the fall colors were perfect. I loved every bit of the room. Hope to visit again.

Rustic, timber framed cabin nestled in the hills 5 minutes from Kingdom Trails mountain bike network and Burke Mountain bike park! Our cabin sits in a meadow surrounded by wildflowers and adjacent to a small apple orchard. You'll have beautiful views of Burke Mountain with a short walk up the hill and 40 acres of undeveloped forest to explore. We have an outdoor fire pit, lawn games and a composting toilet close by. Come enjoy this magical place with your friends and family!
The cabin sits on the edge of a wooded forest and an open meadow. Parking is right next to the cabin. The cabin was hand built with traditional tools and using a mortise and tenon technique. The lumber (flooring, siding, shelving and bar tops) was milled right from the land. The cabin gets a lot of day time sun and offers spectacular star gazing on a clear night. There is an open space for outdoor fires, lawn games and enjoyed a cold beverage after a long bike ride, hike, or swim. 1/2 mile down the road is a secret, small swimming hole with a water fall.
You will be sharing the woods with our local neighbors - birds, squirrels, deer, and maybe a rare sighting of a bob cat or bear! Please be respectful and thoughtful about interacting with nature. This is a rural community but there are neighbors and farms adjacent to the property as well as a yurt down the hill that people also rent. Please be respectful of these people and be mindful of your noise after quiet hours.

The Dragonfly is good for couples, families, solo adventurers, business travelers, golfers (Orleans Country Club, and others),skiers (Burke Mountain and Jay Peak Resort), snowmobilers (VAST Trail is 2 min away...next field), ice fisherman (Lake Willoughby, Lake Memphremagog and others), hikers, for long or short term stay.
The Dragonfly at Cedar Pond Farm is a beautiful space to come and relax. The apartment is apart of a family homestead built by the owners father. It's on about 4 acres with an apple orchard, blueberries, raspberries, black berries and a large garden. The pond has ducks and often a beaver. All seasons are special at the Dragonfly.
Our neighborhood is basically a quiet dirt road without too many neighbors. The neighbor to our right is the Old Stone House Museum. They are implementing an old fashioned tavern in 2019!! It is a historical museum with 5 structures and 2 barns. It's the historical home of Alexander Twilight and also the Historical Society for Orleans County, Vermont. http://oldstonehousemuseum.org/ They have many special events throughout Spring, Summer and Fall.
  • Dawn is amazing host. Her hospitality and attention to small details is very impressive. The place is very cozy and clean. It has everything needed for a stay. Refrigerator had a lot of food that Dawn left for us: cheese, ham, eggs, juice, milk, butter, bread, pizza. Also different teas, coffee, hot chocolate, a lot of snacks, fruits. We came for xc ski at Craftsbury Outdoor Center. It takes 30 min to get to Dragonfly from Craftsbury on beautiful winter scenery road. Location is very beautiful in winter. You can see Amish people riding their buggy. Thank you Dawn for your hospitality!

  • Very nice place! A ton of amenities, and very comfortable.

    David2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Farm fresh describes everything about this place. Fresh eggs and just-picked blueberries were waiting for us on arrival, along with unexpected delights like a frozen pizza, bacon, juice, and (of course) Vermont cheese! The kitchen is super-easy to use because literally everything is labeled - even which pots can't go in the dishwasher! Around the space you'll also see labels on light switches, closets, coffee pots, and pretty much anything else you could have a question about. The extreme amount of thought that went into this place is what makes it a top-ten AirBnB for me. And we didn't even have time to enjoy the fire-ring or pond.

    Jesse2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay. Plenty of space for 5 people and a dog, with room to spare. Only a few minutes from Newport. An amazing value from an amazing host. thank you!

  • We had a great time camping on Phillips property. There was a very nice view of Crystal Lake, as well as a nice sunset over the mountains nearby. Off in the distance you can hear the old church clock strike on the hour if its quiet enough. The nice view of the train down in the valley and the church bells was a really nice touch. We had a good time with a nice fire and plenty of tent room. Thanks again!

This place is spotless and in a beautiful location. We had a pleasant surprise of some homemade zucchini bread that went great with our morning coffee. Next time I travel to the northeast kingdom I will definitely be staying at Terry’s place.

Magical timber frame cabin on private 75 acres nestled in the mountains ~ cross between a hobbit & tree house. Five minute drive down to pristine Lake Willoughby, 25 mins to world class mountain biking (kingdom trails), and 30 or 50 minute drive to ski resorts *Burke* and *Jay Peak*, respectively. Perfect for couples, friends & families who want to enjoy all Vermont's glorious Northeast Kingdom has to offer (ski, fish, hike, bike, swim, beer-cation, etc) while still getting away from it all.
3 THINGS PEOPLE LOVE about our HOME: 1 - The cabin is truly unique. A custom built timber frame, it feels a bit like a cross between a tree house and a hobbit house. Milled from trees on the property, guests have commented that the house “is out of a fairytale” and feels “like it grew out of the earth.” From the gracefully curved wood beams throughout, to the natural stone inside and out, to the sod (grass) roof, to the private 75 acres that are yours to roam, it is a truly special place - an ultra private and peaceful retreat. The two-story stone fireplace is awesome and the open floor plan allows you to enjoy each other's company with plenty of room to hang out and make memories. 2 - The area is simply amazing. Listed in NYTimes best seller "1000 Places to See Before You Die", the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) is spectacular. You will find some of the most beautiful spots in the NEK are minutes away from our property. There is something for everyone, for every season: hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, beach, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling (VAST), craft beer hunting, and foliage viewing. And one glimpse of the night sky (away from those city lights) will *literally* take your breath away (it is a MUST SEE! Trust me: Do not leave without taking in the night sky on a clear night). 3 - Our private woods are beautiful. Many guests have commented on how peaceful the location is and have enjoyed exploring and hiking the property itself (see reviews). Discover local wildlife in the beaver pond in your backyard or walking the property. Sightings include: moose, black bears, fox, among others. A walk in the winter will always reveal fresh tracks in the snow. We also have a fire pit, a BBQ, picnic table, hammock, and plenty of space to run around - all of which makes for a great spot to spend time outdoors with family and friends. 3 THINGS TO CONSIDER before renting: 1 - Our home is in the woods and it is off the beaten path. You will be happiest here if you are looking for a secluded and remote experience connected to nature. Frankly, we are in the sticks and that's how we like it:-) If the prospect of encountering wildlife (big or small- mosquitos to moose) is alarming, it may not be the place for you. Although the house is located near many desirable NEK activities, don't expect to find a Starbucks on our street corner. Big box stores are about 25 mins away in Derby (north) or Lyndonville (south), and there are plenty of other towns within 30 mins to explore. That said, there is the local country store at 10 mins (open year round) that has a great craft beer and wine selection, sandwiches, gas, and everything else your could possibly need- including friendly conversation. Come summer, they have an ice-cream window with just about the best ice-cream you have ever had. There is also a nice restaurant at the Willoughvale inn (also at ~10 mins). *Note*: Local places close at ~9pm; the perfect time to head home for a cozy night in. 2 - During mud season (spring thaw) and winter you will be happiest with a 4 wheel drive/an SUV . The driveway to the house is a half mile up a *dirt road*. We take care to keep the road plowed and clear, but remember ...this IS snow country! And there is only so much we can do to control mud. Also, if you can arrive during daylight hours, it will make your first encounter driving to the house more relaxed. 3. There is no cell service at the house. So if you want to be disconnected, you have a good excuse! We do have reliable high speed internet and you can connect your phone wirelessly; there is also a phone/land line for your use.
This stunning property is surrounded by glorious mountain views, no shortage of wildlife and plenty of space to roam. The breathtaking scenery surrounding the area is constantly changing with the seasons. Swim, fish, bike, hike, ski- it is all at you fingertips from this ultra private retreat. It's the perfect spot to enjoy many outdoor activities all year round!
  • My goodness, this space is beyond sublime. A true getaway, so quiet and peaceful and the light within the space is gorgeous. If it's possible, it's even more stunning in person than in the photos. Thank you Michelle for such a needed and appreciated escape!

    Kara2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing!! It is as beautiful, rustic and cozy as it appears in the pictures. Heated floors, fireplace fully stocked with firewood, very clean and well-maintained. Michelle is an extremely responsive and detailed hostess. One warning: if you go in winter DEFINITELY bring a 4WD or AWD vehicle. We went with 2 cars: a mini-cooper and a subaru impreza, and only the impreza made it to the house. Bonus: we skiied down the driveway. Thanks Michelle. We will be back in the fall :)

    Evan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for a place off the beaten path and we found it! The cabin is so unique with all the comforts of home and the best fireplace we’ve ever seen! Our daughter LOVED the loft. • We enjoyed three nights at this wonderful cabin. Upon arrival, our initial reaction was that the pictures do not do it justice!! Great location that is very remote and peaceful. The cabin was everything we expected and more.

  • Fantastic house to get away from it all. We came here in the middle of winter. The house is toasty warm with underfloor heating and an amazing log fire. You'll need a proper 4wd to get to get up the snowy road in winter. The house is dog friendly too which is nice and our dogs had a great time running around outside. Michelle was a great host, friendly and easy to get hold of. The house has wifi but no phone reception. There are nice walks to do a short distance away.

Enjoy your stay and all the beauty our area has to offer . The Rock Room is a beautiful recently renovated space that is private, clean, spacious and calming. It is located in the beautiful quiet quaint town of Westmore, VT. Home to Willoughby Lake. One of Vermont's most beautiful lakes. Our rooms offers a nice view of Willoughby Lake right from your bedroom window. The Rock Room is located along VT Rte 5A above the Willoughby Lake Store.
We have several excellent swimming areas around Willoughby Lake and/or around town. There are endless hiking trails, Mt Pisgah and Wheeler Mtn being some of the more popular ones. Canoeing, kayaking, and camping are staple things we do around Willoughby Lake and in the nearby area. Swimming in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. We have it all. If you like biking and skiing Kingdom Trails and Burke Mountain are about 20 minutes away and Jay Peak is about 45 minutes away.

  • Love staying at Rae-Kim’s cabins. Super convenient for mountain biking, low frill, but nice to have a roof over your head for those rainy nights!

  • Returned to the RKS cabins for the second time. Still a fantastic place to stay for my friends and I who came to Burke for biking on Kingdom trails. The hosts go above and beyond to ensure the guests are happy and the cabins are well maintained. Hopefully we will be back again next year!

  • This was a perfect spot to have a quiet and rustic getaway. Thank you so much!

    Gideon2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin is larger than I expected and very private. The large fire pit with free wood was great. Plenty of hot water from the shower. Overall, a great value considering the trails are so close by.

  • Perfect for the weekend mountain biker, hiker, etc.

    Steve2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Comfy bed. Location is amazing. Steps away from the trails. Place is super cute. You can hear the river running. I Highly recommend!

  • Michelle’s place is perfect for a visit to ride Kingdom Trails! The unit is perfect for a couple, and we had plenty of space for all of our stuff. The covered bike storage out back was a bonus, and there was a hose to wash our bikes as needed. Communication and check in was super easy. No one was staying in the rest of the house while we were there, so it was very private. We would definitely stay again!
