We have a large double en suite room in the original part of our 17th Century farmhouse. With a small cupboard with hanging space and a travel cot, and a separate pop up single bed available. These will be placed in the room for your arrival if requested. We have provided tea and coffee making facilities and a TV with free view. We are a family of 3, including our 3y.o. Daughter who will no doubt want to show you her treehouse. Access is up 1 flight of stairs.
With original beams and a coat of arms hanging this charming room can make you feel like lord/lady of the manor. The modern en suite has a deep bath that is the comfiest I've ever used, and a powerful over bath shower.
Our home is a secluded gem, full of charm and character, but it is on the doorstep of Newmillerdam, Nostell Priory and Wakefield city centre with its galleries and cathedral. Local pubs and restaurants provide plenty of choice.

Ben is a great host really friendly and interesting to talk to and pre stay communication was excellent and helpful. I highly recommend staying with Ben although a little way from Leeds, 35 mins on the train, you are more than compensated by the comfort and hospitality provided.

  • Very clean and tidy house with a friendly and welcoming host. It was perfect for a stop off on a road trip. We had a comfortable night's sleep and there was some breakfast left out for us in the morning. Would recommend!

    Olivia2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • I am super grateful and blessed to have been in Ben's house, he is a formidable, kind and attentive person who cares about his guests. Above the house, it is an authentic palace, nothing to envy to the hotels of 5 stars, the finished ones are perfect, very well decorated the house, in fact, it was decorating it of Christmas in the days that I stayed and it was very elegant. Without a doubt, staying at Ben's house is the best thing you can do, you have comfort, a good bed, heating, shower, TV in your room, we go to a luxury hotel and the owner is the best person you can find.

    Alejandra2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is a 5* rating! I highly recommend your stay with Ben! The space is very clean, he had thoughtful small touches to make our stay very comfortable, and he was an overall GREAT host! Many thanks Ben, you might see us again soon ;)

  • Ben’s house is amazing! Ben is the best host you can have. The house really nice and luxury. Every detail is perfectly placed. We felt that we were in a five stars hotel. • Idyllic indeed. With lovely hosts and a grand building. A perfect quiet weekend getaway to ramble around Yorkshire and do things at an easy pace.

    Nabeel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is an AMAZING property beautifully located and just great place to have down time. Some lovely walks, the bed is super comfy even equipped with electric blanket! Tina & Jasper are always at hand to answer any questions that you have too. There was lots of nice touches, with fruit left, yogurts, cereal for us to eat. The stain glassed window above the bed is a wow factor and when the sun shines through ..make sure you have your camera on the ready! We enjoyed it very much, we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, walked to the pub & back for nice Sunday dinner. We also went to the Thai restaurant in Shafton, nothing to look at from the outside, plus you have to walk through the pub to get to the restaurant but wow the flavours were amazing ( the lady chef used to cook for the Prince apparently in Thailand ) Really pleased we got the chance to stay at this place, a little different then your average weekend away! Thank you 🙏🏽

  • Christina and Jasper were kind, generous and attentive hosts. Just the right amount of attention. There as and when you needed them. The accomodation was quirky, comfortable and had everything you needed and more. Location was fantastic with loads of local attractions nearby or rural walks if that's your preference. Was exactly as you see in the photos. I would recommend it.

    Rebecca2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • A really unique place. Perched at the top of the Yorkshire hills, we were perfectly placed for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in an incredible converted room, unlike anything I've previously stayed in. The hosts Christina and Jasper were fantastic from start to finish. One of our best and most interesting experiences on airbnb, wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

    Seb2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing weekend staying at the church. The place is ideally located in a beautiful town. • A great, quiet cosy cottage in a perfect location. Easy communication with the owners and walking distance from the lake at Newmillerdam.

    Hazel2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for this perfect little cottage. Lovely views and everything you need for a quaint overnight stay. Check in is simple and all basic amenities you need is provided. Would definitely stay again having the opportunity!

    Elle2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts David and Wendy were very quick at responding to messages and both are very nice and friendly. When we arrived the place was sparkling clean, there were all the little added extras like juices, water, breakfast items. We also really loved the fact that you could buy the books off the shelf and the money would go to the hospice (lovely little touch). The location is perfect, with just a couple minute walk to newmillerdam. The bed linen was super soft and the bed was so comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Wakefield, who still wants to be in the beautiful country side to stay here! Absolute pleasure, can’t wait to come back!

    Katie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, excellently equipped, very clean and charming cottage. The hosts are very contactable, very helpful and approachable at all times. Added bonus of lovely neighbours either side of the cottage who also made us feel welcome when we bumped into them in their respective gardens. No hesitation in recommending this cottage and we would gladly stay here again.

This is a single bed in a small, but tidy, shed at the end of my garden. It is quiet, cosy and safe, you have access to the kitchen and bathroom (let's say 30 minutes per day each would should be ample to rustle up a couple of snacks, have a shower, etc etc) , Please do not book for other people with your account. I am no longer taking bookings other than for people who are members of airbnb.
This is small, but ideal for the light traveller. I have slept in there myself, and I LOVE IT!!! I've put it on airbnb because I thought to myself, if I could book 14 places like this for a cycling holiday (I have just come back from one on the River Rhine) It would be perfect. You have electricity for lap top, phones, lights, powered by the solar panels and a marine battery that I used to use for a caravan in Devon (see pictures) Your view is beautiful, and you can gor for walks around the field and pick mushrooms, spuds and onions, and the chickens might give you an egg or two It sounds crazy, but I'm kind of proud of it. Hotel with a minibar for £65 a night?? You're welcome to that!! I'll chuck in a cold one for free! I have put it down as a 7 day maximum stay, because it IS NOT A HOUSE! I know it sounds daft, but I would feel awkward if somebody was 'living' in it. and I don't mind if you use anything out of them which I won't particularly notice missing (that is all the basic foodstuffs and toiletries). I wish to stress, this is not a house stay where you potter into the shed for sleeps. It is the kind of place I would love to stay when I am abroad on bicycle trips at the price. It is perfect for overnight stays as a break on long journeys, and perhaps for a few days exploring, but, although I want you to be happy, if you want all mod cons please book one of my rooms in the house.. By all means contact me if you want a longer stay, I'm not the most horrible person in the world!
    Quiet, working, residential.
  • A great little place to stay, exactly what it says on the tin. Value for money is exceptional, and I would highly recommend

    David2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Steve is a great host and a really lovely person. He went out of his way to make sure I felt at home. The views were fantastic and it was great value for money.

    Christopher2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Steve has been the most welcoming host I have ever stayed with. I told him I was going to the Leeds festival, and he surprised me with a vintage "Leeds Fest" t-shirt for me to keep! He was even generous enough to let me borrow his tent to camp at the shows so I didn't have to overpay for a taxi each night. He welcomed me on the first night with good conversation and just seemed overall glad I was there and to enjoy the company. Thank you so much, Steve! Cheers!

  • Perfect stop over place

    Jon2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved it. Genius of an idea yet so simple. Will return to (hopefully) visit for a songwriting retreat..

    Pete2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • I can't recommend Steve's hospitality highly enough. What a guy! I had a lovely cosy stay in the shed at the bottom of the garden amongst the chickens and the veg plot and Steve's knowledge of medicinal herbs is second to none. A very generous host.

    Emma2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Steve is one of the most hospitable and generous hosts I have ever met. He is ultra friendly and kind, he always makes you feel at home. You can feel in heart that Steve wants to make his guests as happy and comfortable as possible. Talks with Steve over cups of tea and snacks had made me feel connected. Perhaps such attempts to understand the worlds of people from different backgrounds, are in Steve's words, "connection with real people", putting human touch in the Airbnb experience. Back to the shed. The stay in the shed is one of the most comfortable stays I have had. The bed was more than comfortable, cozy, with firm pillows and heavy duvets. I sank into the bed without waking up for a solid 8 hours. It was a unique and lovely experience. I wish I could put 10 stars in Value but there could only be maximum 5 stars. In conclusion, it was absolutely amazing to stay at Steve's shed, and I wish to visit Steve again shall there be another chance!

We think you've found an amazing place to stay. This is one of three double bed rooms in a spacious converted chapel. If required this room can accommodate your travel cot or our extra floor mattress. It is opposite the main bathroom on the ground floor. All rooms are light and airy each with their own shower/ toilet facilities. We provide breakfast as part of your booking, and other vegetarian meals can be provided if requested. Helpful hosts and a unique and homely place to remember.
Durkar Chapel was initially a Victorian Primitive Methodist Chapel, converted ten years ago into a large family home with additional creative spaces both indoors and out, creating a unique and relaxed space to visit. It is close to the M1 motorway (J39) and has good public transport links if required.
The chapel is located 2 minutes away from J 39 M1 three miles from the city centre, and the award winning Hepworth Gallery. Three miles in the other direction, in the rolling countryside is the internationally famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We are close to Pugneys Lake, a countryside water sports facility within walking distance of Sandal Castle and visitor centre. We have recently organised a special deal for our guests with the Nuffield Health and Fitness centre. So bring your sportswear bag and swimming costume for a wonderful /relaxing/ healthy living experience. Check out their facilities at www.nuffieldhealth.com/gyms/wakefield. Your hosts are relaxed and helpful, with a good local knowledge of the area that includes local walks, popular shops and leisure amenities.
  • An amazing hidden space with lovely hosts

  • Alison's place was perfect for me and mum to stay over Christmas. She was so lovely and welcoming and communicating with her in the lead up to our arrival was a dream. The room on the second floor was very spacious and full of natural light. The room in the attic was smaller but totally fine for me. Alison left food in the kitchen for us every morning for breakfast and even though we hardly saw her, she was absolutely lovely. Hope to stay again :)

Free on site parking; own external door with key; luxurious linen, fluffy towels, toiletries, hairdryer, fresh flowers, chocolates, Wi fi, USB ports. Light refreshments and choice of breakfast served and included. Lovely conservation village close to M1 and rail links. Ideal for country park and sculpture trail. Guests say we go the extra mile. We offer 5* comfort and enjoyment; fresh flowers and fruit with home made treats in your room. Relax early evening in the conservatory, with complimentary olives and a glass of prosecco. The cottage doubles as an art gallery for all our paintings, many of which have been in exhibitions. Choice of breakfast menu included and served at the table; supper available by arrangement for a small supplement. Full use of all ground floor rooms and garden areas plus, unusually for this area, free, secure on site parking. We don't charge extra for couples with one small child aged 6 and under who will sleep with them. We offer a delightful private room with adjoining ensuite facilities. The latter has a new, large walk-in shower, and there's plenty of hot water at any time of day or night. Soft, fresh towels and a range of high quality toiletries are provided for you to choose from, including wash gels, shampoo and moisturising creams. The bedroom contains one very comfortable single bed and for two guests, there's a good quality fold down bed, complete with an additional topper mattress. There are plump goose down pillows and we only use high quality bed linen. Comfort and a good night's sleep are essentials. Throws and cushions keep you extra warm and comfortable. The bedroom is fine for one person; snug but perfectly adequate for two. The room houses an extensive collection of art and poetry books for you to browse but other light reading is available from the shelves in the living room. We have some quirky pieces in the room, lovingly collected over the years, like an antique French prayer chair. Original art work surrounds you and whilst there is no television in the room itself, you are very welcome to use the one in the living room. A kettle, cafetiere, tea pot and cups plus fresh coffee and a range of teas are provided in your room; these offer that bit of early morning comfort in bed without moving very far. Home baked biscuits or cake are left for you to enjoy each day. Amity Cottage is an 18th century stone cottage, originally converted from an old barn, now fully modernised and extended, but also retaining some original features such as the beamed living room and the stone mullion window. This room is also full of original art work, much of which has been painted in one of the studios we have in the cottage and which we can make available to guests if they want to use them. Breakfast can be served in the dining room overlooking the conservatory and beautiful gardens, or made available in the kitchen or your room if you prefer. Breakfast time is flexible between 7.30am and 9.15am and we offer a menu from which to choose. Please inform us if you have special dietary needs in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate them. If you prefer something else, we can also offer that by prior arrangement the night before. Our gardens have been lushly planted for year-round interest and are lauded by many people. There are a number of areas in which to sit and enjoy a view. A heated summer house in the garden provides a lovely place to sit. The garlands of small lights inside and around the trees outside create a magical atmosphere. Smoking is allowed in the gardens but we ask that you dispose of the remains carefully outside in the bins. Although on a very quiet lane, there are many good places to eat and drink within walking distance. There are supermarkets just a short distance away and a very good bus service runs along the main road which is about a 3 minutes walk from the cottage. For those wanting a good, freshly prepared and home cooked meal in the early evening, we can offer a two course supper by prior arrangement and a small contribution per adult meal. Children aged 6 and under will be offered a modified version of the menu and there is no extra cost involved if their parent has booked a meal. Most diets catered for, eg. vegan, coeliac. All our bread, cakes, biscuits, preserves and meals are home made by Jan using fresh ingredients.
Newmillerdam is a small village on the outskirts of Wakefield but within easy access of major northern cities such as Leeds, Sheffield, York and Manchester. Newmillerdam Country park and lake is a place of outstanding natural beauty with plenty of walks. There are three very good pubs/restaurants within easy walking distance and an excellent Italian restaurant. Newmillerdam is seen as a prestigious village in which to live. Amity Cottage is on a very quiet, unadopted lane across from the Country Park and with open fields to the side. For parents travelling with a child, there is the Country Park Gnome Trail and we can even provide the bird seed with which to feed the many ducks and swans on the lake.
  • we had the most wonderful stay with Ted and Jan! their home is full of art, they have many stories to share and take so much care over their guests. breakfast was delicious as well as all the other surprise snacks/baked goods left out for us. the room is so cosy and warm with bedding to sink into. The house is extremely well located and easy to find as we came to visit the yorkshire sculpture park and hepworth gallery- both of which were a very quick drive away. we could not have asked for a more lovely time and would definatley stay again. bigges thanks to you both.

    Nada2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gem of a place. Ted & Jan are charming, talented and give a really warm welcome. Delightful

    Dominica2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely find, such a welcoming couple you feel just at home. Complete contrast to a Travelodge, soulless and uninspiring, here you’ll receive a warm welcome. Cosy fire, comfy living room, tea and biscuits on arrival, great conversation and good company. I also enjoyed a lovely evening meal with the hosts which was very tasty and super value and so much better than wandering out alone to eat. They couldn’t do enough, even popping out to find me decaf coffee for breakfast! Thoroughly recommend.

    Sue2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Ted and Jan are wonderful hosts and I would highly recommend staying here. They both make you feel at home instantly with such a warm welcome and by adding wonderful thoughtful touches to the accommodation. A big thank you to you both for making our stay memorable and for going over and beyond with your hospitality and kindness. We both throughly enjoyed your company and chatting away all evening. Thank you for everything Pardip and Jamie.

  • You will get a very warm welcome from Jan and Ted: they are very generous and work so hard to provide fantastic hospitality for their guests.

    Roger2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality, very generous hosts, fabulous meals, nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed our stay very much, and had a lot of laughs!

    Roger2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Ted and Jan went out of the way to make us feel comfortable. We had purchased a beautiful dinner that Jan prepared and the breakfast was exceptional - Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs at no extra cost! Fresh flowers, proper tablecloths! The best AirBNB for food that we have ever been to. We recommend Ted and Jan's place to anyone who enjoy stimulating conversation and beautiful food! Thanks again!

    Jillian2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • The best airbnb we've stayed at. Ted and Jan are outstanding hosts and went out of their way to make us feel at home. They also cooked us a lovely vegetarian supper for a small additional charge. The breakfast was excellent (and is included) - home made porridge, preserves, bread and fresh fruit chosen from their menu.

  • Great little hideaway with good local amenities and transport links. Even managed to squeeze in a park run on the Saturday. Host was lovely. Nice thoughtful touches for valentines to make it extra special too

    Ryan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cath is an awesome host. I have been staying at the lodge for a few weeks while working in the area and it’s always cosy, spotless and welcoming. This time Cath had decorated the lodge for valentines which was a lovely touch. I arrived late because of a really bad storm and she was really gracious about it, lighting the log burner evoke I arrived so it was toasty and even pouring me a drink. She makes it feel like a home from home

    Zillah2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a cosy, warm and pleasant stay at The Lodge - despite the best efforts of the storm raging outside! Cath had thought of everything to ensure that we were comfortable, and the breakfast was both plentiful and delicious. Thank you!

    Timothy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Cath’s place - which is really convenient for me new job. It’s a lovely cosy base to explore the area - I love the log burner and Cath makes a real effort to make her guests welcome

    Zillah2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Lodge is a really lovely cosy place which is super convenient for the M62, M1 and A1 so great for exploring the area. Cath couldn’t be more helpful and has added lots of personal touches which make the lodge really special. Curling up in front of the log burner was the perfect way to spend the evenings

    Zillah2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, better than than the photos. Perfect for what I needed and great host. Lovely breakfast provided in the property and everything you need. Highly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

    Kieran2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge was a lovely cosy place to stay over Christmas and the little extra touches that Cath left made all the difference, especially arriving to an already lit fire!

  • I have recently just left dawns after staying there for 3 nights. Dawn has been amazing. She was quick at replying to messages from when I was booking my trip until leaving that day. She greeted me and shown me around, getting to know each other over coffee. The room was amazing and gave me everything I needed. Dawn was there to ask questions and recommend places to go but also gave me space that i needed as well. Breakfast was full of choice and she went above and beyond even when I needed a lemsip! The place was clean and tidy with personal touches. The place is value for money and I couldn’t have asked for a better price and only a few minutes to Outwood. I can not recommend. Dawn enough, i fully enjoyed my visit all thanks bro dawn. Will defiantly be returning in the future xxx

    Stacey2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Dawn's place was a great experience. Dawn was very accommodating towards us and had some great recommendations for things to do in the area. The room had everything we needed, it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room was very good value for money and the breakfast was an added bonus. Special note for the cats who were really nice and friendly! Highly recommended stay.

  • A lovely warm welcome by Jess to her wonderful home. Clean room with a clean shared bathroom. Tea or coffee was available for us in the kitchen if wanted. Perfect stay for us and literally across the road from the station to jump on the train to take the 10min journey to the centre of Leeds. Plenty of parking.

    Abi2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Squeaky clean and stylish house a stones throw from the train station so access to Leeds is effortless. Quick to respond and a really comfy bed!

  • Lovely place for a quick stopover working. Very clean, nice bed and good sound insulation - there’s a lot of road noise outside but inside you don’t hear a thing with windows closed. Jess was very helpful and quick to respond to queries.

  • Very relaxing, stylish house. Extremely clean and Jess was very prompt to assist in any questions.

Cosy (i.e. small!) room in shared household. Quiet street, access straight into the countryside out of the back garden. Pets welcome. Ideal spot if you are passing through (2 miles from A1, 2 miles from M62), or if you fancy a stay at one of the few towns where we commit regicide (Richard 2nd was starved to death in Pontefract Castle), which is 20 minutes walk away. Full internet, kettle, USBs in the wall and off-street parking. Yorkshire is the best county in England by a massive margin.
It's nice and quiet on the edge of town here where I live.
  • Steve is a super friendly person and he treated me with a lot of respect. There were very good days of chat and visits to the beautiful countryside in backyard. I will definitely stay in his room more often when I am in Baghill!

The apartment was refurbished in 2018 to a high standard with WI, parking & a garden. We are in very quiet location, 5 minute walk from Pontefract centre. A central location for Leeds, Wakefield, Doncaster, York & is also in the north of England half way if you are travelling from Scotland to the south. Pontefract Racecourse is a short distance away. I also run the Pottery by the Apartment so have a go on a pottery wheel or paint a pot when you stay booking is essential.
A lovely 2 bedroom apartment in a block of 4 with your own parking, front door, garden and is on a private road so no road noise. It is very spacious and can sleep up to 6. The kitchen has all you would need to self-cater and has all your home comforts, as I have stayed at many airbnb's so knew exactly what I would want offer for your stay. All beds have mattress toppers for a great night sleep. In the kitchen we leave teas, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, sugars, sweetener, eggs, Bread, homemade jam, boxed cereal, porridge, muesli. If you have other request just send a message.
Mill Hill lane is a quiet cul de sac we are at the very end of it. The lane is access to the apartments and pottery only so you wont have any traffic disturbing your stay. The surround area has cycle paths and lovely walks through wentbridge woods. Xscape and Junction 32 have all the shops you could want as well as a ski slope, large cinema and lots of food and entertainment areas. Pontefract race course is 5 minutes away. You could also delve into history and wander around the ruins of Pontefract Castle which was part of the war of the roses and mentioned in the film Braveheart. There is also a museum and tearoom at the castle.
  • The place was a little awkward to find however dont let that put you off. Lovely host and a very clean space!
