Places to stay in Rathkeale
Hi. We would love for you to come and stay with us in our spacious double room with en-suite and TV. We are situated in the quiet village of Croagh located approximately 3 miles from the beautiful village of Adare. We are 20 minutes from Limerick City and are also on the main Limerick to Kerry road. There is a local restaurant in the village within walking distance and other food outlets near by within driving distance. There are 2 local pubs in the village too to enjoy a local drink.
  • Paddy and Carmel were fantastic hosts. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The room was gorgeous and there was a lot of attention to detail. We didn't expect such a beautiful view from the bedroom window.

  • Thanks for the warm welcome! Also a very fast communication. Clean room, plenty of towels, a bottle of water & a candy bar next to the bed. Got offered tea at our arrival and breakfast in the morning (we liked the brown bread). Recommended!

  • A wonderful place to stay. The room is perfect and the bed is incredibly comfortable. Above all, Pat and Carmel's hospitality is second to none.

  • If you are looking for a snuggly soft bed with fresh, clean linens in the home of a friendly couple close to Adare but not in the middle of tourist traffic, you will be happy here. We appreciated the little touches—reading lamps on both sides of the bed, chocolates and water bottles waiting after our drive. So nice! Carmel & Pat were both home to welcome us, too, with a cup of tea, fresh apple tart (autumn visit!) and plenty of local information. Just what we needed!

  • Pat and Carmel were wonderful hosts. Very hospitable. Very clean comfortable room and handy location for Adare, Limerick City or enroute to Kerry from Limerick. Would definitely stay again.

  • Mary's place includes all the amenities you could ever want! It is lovely and cozy. She thought of everything, right down to leaving us a little tin of cakes on the table. This was a perfect 'home base' for us as we made trips to the surrounding area.

    Bailey2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I had an amazing weekend at Mary's place. It's much better than the pictures and so worth the money. On top of that, Mary is lovely and made us feel at home. Thank you very much and l hope to be back in the near future.

  • Mary’s place is just a lovely, an immaculate and private apartment at the back of her farmhouse. It’s brand spanking new, well-heated to ward off a cold Irish winter and full of lovely touches- including some home made muffins and ground coffee for brewing. Beautiful place and excellent value for money.

This is an old estate house, originally built in the 1600's and redesigned in the 1800's, supposedly by the same architect as America's White House . It was completely refurbished by its current owners in 2008. It is an old walled estate, situated on 114 acres, with 55 stables and 2 gallops. It consists of 3 floors, 8 ensuite bedrooms, four reception rooms, a large country style kitchen and a working national hunt yard. It is located on the outskirts of Rathkeale town and is a 10 minute drive to the pretty village of Adare and a 20 minute drive to Limerick city. Both Shannon and Kerry Airports are a 45 minute drive, and the car ferry at Tarbert (Co. Kerry) - which crosses on a half hourly basis to Co. Clare, home of Irish traditional music, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren - is only 30 minutes away. It is also part of the route of the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way.
The towns of Adare, Askeaton and Newcastle West border Rathkeale. Adare, an 8 minute drive from Beechmount, is renowned as one of Ireland's prettiest villages. The main street combines typical Irish architecture with the English styled buildings and infrastructure, purpose-built for the Dunraven estate. It is a tourist destination and is also a very popular wedding venue. It has many boutiques, pubs with Irish traditional music, hotels and a local heritage centre, which gives insight into the history of the village. There are two 18-hole golf courses - Adare Golf Club, home of the 2007 & 2008 Irish Open and Adare Manor Golf Club. There is also a popular pitch and putt course in the town and Clonshire Equestrian Centre which is a five minute drive from this location. Askeaton is a small town located on the River Deel, with a Desmond Castle dating from 1199 and a Franciscan Abbey dating from 1389. Located within the grounds of the castle is the Halla Mor (the Great Hall), one of the finest examples of its kind in Ireland. Also on the grounds is the Hellfire Club, an almost intact redbrick building built in 1740 (the same year the monks abandoned the nearby friary). It is one of two in Ireland. The Hellfire Clubs, throughout Ireland and Britain, were 18th-century clubs where rich men gathered to drink, gamble and have orgies. Visits by the devil and human sacrifice are part of the lore surrounding the goings on in Hellfire Clubs! Modern day offerings in Askeaton include a fine leisure centre, including a 25 metre swimming pool, a learner pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi hot tub and gym, with special facilities for disability - see (URL HIDDEN) Newcastlewest is the largest town in Co. Limerick. It is a busy town with many boutiques, shops, restaurants and pubs. It is on the route from Rathkeale to Kerry and is the birth place of "Munster's de facto poet laureate", Michael Hartnett (Irish: Mícheál Ó hAirtnéide) (18 Septemb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) October 1999), in whose honour Éigse Michael Hartnett (a literary and arts festival) is held annually (in April). On the outskirts of Rathkeale town is the 15th-century tower house of Castle Matrix. The castle was built as a fortress during the early 1400s by Thomas FitzGerald, 7th Earl of Desmond, and was later the home of Maurice FitzGerald, 9th Earl of Desmond. It contains a display of art objects and holds historical records and is one of a series of significant Desmond properties in County Limerick, as is the nearby towns of Adare, Askeaton and Newcastle West. In the cemetery of Holy Trinity Church are many gravestones bearing names of Irish Palatine families. These families came from Rheinland-Pfalz, the Rhineland Palatinate in Germany as refugees in 1709. Many of their descendants now live in North America, though the region around Castle Matrix in the villages of Killeheen, Ballingrane, and Courtmatrix contains the largest concentration of Palatine descendants in Ireland. Rathkeale's former railway station on the closed North Kerry railway line from Limerick to Tralee has been converted into the Irish Palatine Museum - (URL HIDDEN) Sean (Jackie) Finn, Brigadier of the 4th (Rathkeale) West Limerick Battalion of the IRA during the Irish War of Independence was a native of Rathkeale. His grave in the local graveyard features an impressive Celtic cross.
  • Paula was an amazing host. She was quick to respond and always went out of her way for our family. We were a large party traveling with people ages 75-18 months and this home has something for everyone. The breakfast was perfect. The scenery is breathtaking! We loved being out with the horses and dogs on the property. The kids cried real tears when they realized we were leaving! We will definitely be coming back to stay if we are ever in the area again.

  • If this amazing home is available - SIMPLY STOP LOOKING AND BOOK THIS HOUSE!!! I rarely write reviews but this time I had to let everyone know what an amazing family and home this is if you are in the area. Paula and and her family made us (11 cousins from all over the world returning home to Ireland for a wonderful wedding) feel so welcome. Incredible house, grounds and amenities. A few minutes from the wonderful village of Adare and a short run to the Cliffs, Ennis, Galway, I could go on and on. Do yourself a favor, you deserve the best... and this is it.

  • This is a perfect little gem 7 minutes from Adare's center! We drove to Galway for an evening out then off to Ennis, the Cliffs of Moher, and Doolin for a day filled of wedding planning, then off to Kilbaha for a fishing charter! We felt it was a perfect central meeting spot for someone who wanted to do it all but also loves having some place to come back to and call home for a few days! Space was clean, fantastic fire place, super comfy bed and very peaceful! Loved the occasional "mooing" we heard from some neighboring cows and the beautiful scenery!

  • Rose's cottage is lovely. We had an enjoyable experience there. We only booked one night but we should have booked another night. We had our own space, living room, kitchen and toilet and shower room downstairs, bedroom and toilet upstairs. We had access to tea, coffee, bread and biscuits. There was milk, butter and water in fridge. Rose's Dad Donie greeted us when we arrived. He showed us around and said if we needed anything to let him know. He was only next door. The following morning he dropped us back up to car which we had left in nearby hotel.

    David2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say! Beechmount House is a hidden gem in Limerick. Paula was very quick to respond to messages and she sent on directions which were spot on. We were greeted by her daughter Kate who showed us to our beautiful room. It wasn’t the twin room which we had booked as they had recently had a fire outside the that room and Paula didn’t want us looking out the window at the burnt out tack room. So we were in a lovely big double room with an extra double camp bed. Both beds were extremely comfortable and my friend found to her joy that the big bed also had an electric blanket! That was very welcome as the only drawback to our stay was that the room was quite cold. Kate did turn on the heating and we also had an electric blow heater which we made use of. I’m sure this is one of the quirks of living in a huge manor house and I can’t even imagine what their heating bill is like. The bed linen, towels and furnishings were all very high quality and the room tastefully decorated. Breakfast the next morning was way beyond what you expect from Airbnb and Kate looked after us beautifully. We had a wonderful full Irish fry up complete with gluten free sausages, pudding and bread for my friend along with cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, scones and brown bread. We were completely spoilt. We were lingering over our wonderful breakfast when we finally got to meet Paula and a more interesting person you cannot meet! Two hours later we were still there talking about everything from politics, local history to our shared love of music. Alas, we had to reluctantly leave. Our stay was too short and I would so love to go back again for a longer stay and a wander around the magnificent estate. I would highly recommend Beechmount House for a little taste of luxury and a very welcoming family. Paula and family, thank you so much for having us.

    Niamh2018-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Paula and her family was wonderful. I only wish I could have stayed longer -- but it was just my first stop on a long trip, and a perfect way to begin my trip through Ireland. Waking up to the horses and her four adorable pups was amazing-- and Paula's jovial attitude and thoughtful nature make it to the top of my list for best hosts. I thought Adare would be the main event nearby- but honestly, I'd make a special trip just to stay with them again!

    Mango2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Paula's location and home are so beautiful, calm, serene, and Paula and her family are fantastic hosts. Room, breakfast, hospitality, and patience were all out of this world, and we loved our all-too-brief stay. Thank you, Paula and Kate

    Anna2018-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Clear directions and stunning location, view from the bedroom windows enchanting. Soaked up the experience and very comfortable. Hosts were exceptional. Breakfast was a joy and the nearby villages of Adare another charm in itself. Would highly recommend a night in this surroundings.

  • Amazing, historical cottage in a quiet countryside location yet close to a range of attractions . A quality stay where all facilities exceeded our expectations. Gary was a brilliant host who communicated promptly and was full of local information. Would highly recommend .

    Graham2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Gary's property is really magical. The house is comfortable and cozy, and has everything one needs. Gary did an amazing job restoring the property, while retaining the original character of the home. The surrounding land is beautiful, and it was very special waking up to the morning light shining on the Irish countryside. Nice country walks right from the house. My 4 year old daughter loved exploring and visiting the resident horse and neighbor cows. Good location for exploring the west of Ireland. Very convenient to Adare, Limerick, etc. Gary and his family were all lovely and were available every time we needed help or advice. Highly recommend!

  • The best country cottage you can hope for. Beautiful, roomy, cosy, amazingly well equipped and outfitted. Fresh flowers in vases, firewood for the hearth - what could you ask for more! The place is beautiful and full of history and wonderfully restored. Gary and his ace decorator wife have made the most welcoming place I have been in a long time. Highly recommend it if you are in that neck of the woods! Triple A+ perfection :)

  • This cottage is the perfect base for discovering the Irish west coast. It is an oasis of rural tranquility, with the most important (tourist) highlights within favorable driving distances. Gary is the perfect host who overloads you with tips and makes you feel at home in no time. The house has a generous layout and if you like local history this is the perfect place; it is full of attributes that refer to more than three centuries of living.

Not only were Mary and TJ easy to communicate with and always there to answer any questions or concerns, they provided a vast degree of info on things to do and sights to see, even providing us a ride to and from Newcastle West. I highly recommend Mary and her amazing AirBnB!

Formerly the residence of an old Etonian British Army Captain and renowned horse trainer, our home is a fine Georgian country house built in 1831. Fully renovated in recent years, the house is bursting with character and charm and relaxation with family and friends is the order of the day. We are ideally situated very close to the picturesque heritage village of Adare, with all the main tourist sites of Kerry and Clare an hour away.
Our home is located in a lovely rural area in the Irish countryside - we are only 6km from the village of Adare, one of the most picturesque villages in Ireland and home to the world famous Adare Manor which will hosting the Ryder Cup in 2026 and the JP McManus ProAm in July 2020. We live in the middle of a wide array of amenities and attractions and are very close to Kerry and Clare. Our beautiful Capital, Dublin is a mere 2 hour drive away. Close by our house is Clonshire Equestrian centre where children can arrange to take riding lessons. Also close by are the Ballyhoura mountains located in South East Co. Limerick. Here you can find the largest trail network of its kind in Ireland for mountain biking and hiking. 98km of trails including forest road climbs and tight turns are guaranteed to leave you smiling.

  • For city-dwelling and suburbanite families, the Adare Coach House is a dream. Our children (6 and 4 years of age) love animals and were surrounded by dogs from the moment they arrived. Experiencing a taste of farm life first thing in the morning and in the late afternoons was THE highlight for them, while the Coach House's proximity to western Ireland's various attractions was most convenient for the grown-ups. The Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Cork, and other spots are all just a day trip away, and it's wonderful returning to the warmth of the farm and the Coach House at the end of the day. The House offers just enough space for four, lots of natural light and the bucolic peace of rural Co Limerick. Couldn't recommend this place more highly! Many thanks to Harry for his kindness and uncommon hospitality.

  • Our family had a great stay at The Cottage! The farm is amazing and his dogs are so sweet and loving! Nice touches with eggs, fruit, and bread. So accommodating and very helpful with travel trips. Would definitely stay there again!

    Terri2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the Coach House! It was on of the highlights of our vacation to Ireland. Nice touches with the homemade bread and apple juice made from apples on the farm and the fresh eggs from the chickens gave the option to staying in and making breakfast before heading out to sightsee! We loved seeing all the animals from the cows and 2 Large pigs to all the friendly dogs! We will definitely stay again, and suggest to anyone.

It has period furnishing in keeping with the house and is one of four available guest rooms.
Kerry) , which crosses on a half hourly basis to Co. Clare - home of Irish traditional music, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren is only 30 minutes away. It is also part of the route of the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way.
The towns of Adare, Askeaton and Newcastle West border Rathkeale. Adare is renowned as one of Ireland's prettiest villages. The main street combines typical Irish architecture with the English styled buildings and infrastructure, purpose-built for the Dunraven estate. It is a tourist destination and is also a very popular choice of wedding venue. It is on the route from Rathkeale to Kerry and is the birth place of "Munster's de facto poet laureate", Michael Hartnett (Irish: Mícheál Ó hAirtnéide) (18 September 1941 – 13 October 1999), in whose honour Éigse Michael Hartnett (a literary and arts festival) is held annually (in April).
  • Paula's home is one of the most beautiful Airbnbs I have stayed in. Paula and her family were very accommodating with our late arrival and were very knowledgeable about things to do in the area. I absolutely loved waking up early to meet all the horses and taking pictures of the stars at night. We wish we could have stayed longer!

  • So relaxing and atmospheric.

    Wayne2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Do not even hesitate to book this place!! The rooms are enormous and beautiful, with views of all the horses and fields — even got to watch the trainers/jockeys exercising 6 of them on the track the first morning. Breakfast is exquisite, served on fine china and silver. Warm & genuine welcome & care. Great location near (but thank God not IN) adorable Adare village. Book a lunch at the Carriage House at the Adare resort so you can walk the gardens and peek inside the stunning nearby hotel (ladies you must check out the gorgeous ladies room at the hotel!) 😁

    Wendy2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Paula’s place at the stables was incredible! We were welcomed to stroll through the beautiful garden and interact with the horses at our leisure. Paula’s daughter, Kate, was an excellent host, greeting us at the front door and immediately offering a hand with our luggage. Our stay was tailored to our comfort. The breakfast was as good as you will find and the amenities were perfect. We had a couple of lovely chats with a couple of stable workers and the neighboring farmer, an overall superb place full of good people. Also, we had a slight mix-up on the booking on our end and Paula was more than understanding and accommodating to us. Can’t recommend this place enough.

  • Paula's BnB is a stunning sweeping old generation farm house situated on acres of beautiful thoroughbred property. Paula has a wonderful energy about her, and we felt right at home. If you're looking for a quiet irish countryside getaway, look no further.

  • I am so happy I came across Beachmount on Airbnb and will definitely return. My family will be enthusiastically recommending Beachmount Paula and her family home to others. Next time, we hope to stay longer than one night. Beachmount is a little ways off the main road, but so well worth it! From the initial tree lined driveway, past horse grazing fields to the beautiful front door, we immediately began to relax. The interior of the magnificent house didn’t disappoint, from the warm greeting by Kate and the cozy, comfortable en-suite room on the top floor. Really appreciated Paula and Kate accommodating our request for an early breakfast, which was delicious and more than satisfied before our long return flight to US. An added plus recommended by Kate was a magnificent nearby restaurant for dinner - Neville’s.

  • Amazing place! So beautiful! Amazing breakfast! Visit the stables, pet the horses, and watching the jockeys train them! Friendly pups as well!

This is a bright and spacious bedroom, located on the second floor, with beautiful views of the side lawn and the gallop at the front of the house, where the horses work in the mornings. It has a king sized bed (5ft), plus the option of a comfortable sofa double bed (4ft 6ins), and has an ensuite bathroom with a shower. It is ideal for a family, but is also suitable for a couple. It is one of four available guest rooms.

  • Would recommend for a unique & memorable accommodation: - Amazing place to stay if you love horses, huge grounds and plenty of horses. Enjoyed walking around and checking on their beautiful horses! Some were curious and came towards me for a stroke :) - Room was bigger than expected & bed was comfortable - The dining room is so grand, had a lovely breakfast there each morning - Paula & Kate were so friendly and made our stay pleasant. Paula especially exudes such warmth and is so jovial! Would definitely recommend and this is a stay I will never forget! Will miss those horses for sure!

  • What a fantastic place to stay The house is beautiful and the property is stunning. Paula is a gem and we could not have been more welcome.

    Andy2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Paula was such a gracious host and the property is absolutely breathtaking. We stayed for one night here as part of our honeymoon and Paula was so sweet and got us a little bottle of champagne and chocolates to celebrate. She also had a lot of good traveling tips for us and we had a great big breakfast before leaving the next morning to get us ready for our walk on the Cliffs. The room we stayed in was lovely and exactly as described. The location is close to the adorable town of Adare which we stopped in for both lunch and dinner. This location was ideal for us to unwind after running around like mad people for the few days prior. We shared many great laughs with Paula and we hope to be back one day!

  • Awesome hospitality in a beautiful place.

  • Pure relaxation in a bucolic setting, with the added attraction of observing the horses go through their morning work-out. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable, and Paula laid out an amazing breakfast. I would highly recommend Beechwood House.

  • I had a spectacular stay with Paula at her beatiful home near Rathkeale. She is a truly welcoming and generous host. She provided recommendations for places to visit within a short drive and local sights. The home is beautifully maintained with all modern conveniences. She cooked a lovely breakfast each morning and always made sure I had everything I needed. Thank you again Paula. I'm looking forward to seeing you again the next time I come to Ireland.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful traditional thatched cottage. Martin was a wonderful host, and to arrive to a stocked fridge and home made pizza was very much appreciated.

  • Fantastic place to stay, I’ll be rebooking ASAP

    Connie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • A great house in a really good location for exploring the area. Martin provided outstanding hospitality and was very responsive to a couple of small issues that arose. We were greeted with a home made pizza on arrival by Martin, and also a hamper of grocery items for our use. The house is very roomy, and very quaint with its thatched roof, and has great appliances. The location was good for exploring the Ring of Kerry, Adare, Dingle and other local tourist spots. We are happy to recommend this B&B to all.

  • Lovely, well presented house. Short drive to limerick city. Enjoyed our stay , family of 5

    Edel2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great! Very scenic, quiet location that is conveniently located near Adare and Newcastle West . Inside and out, this has all the charm of a Irish thatched cottage, but with a bit of contemporary living incorporated. This cottage is cozy but far from cramped, and comfortably served our family of 4. Martin was extremely friendly and helpful. I’d gladly recommend this clean, cute B&B to anyone visiting the area.

    Brendan2015-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Martin is a nice host. He showed us around his beautiful cottage and had filled the fridge for the next morning. It's a beautiful house, really worth a visit. I would habe loved it to stay even longer.

  • Fantastic little old world cottage with a modern touch, loads of charm, in a great location, and with the perfect host. Had everything you could possibly need, and Martin was there to greet and provide anything that was needed on arrival. Private, flexible and idyllic.

The village of Adare is 15 mins drive and has a large selection of restaurants and other activities.
  • Great place! So many extra thoughtful touches we never expected and were so grateful for - some fresh snacks and flowers. Super friendly dogs on the property, our daughter loved playing with. Nice area for walks and all necessities nearby. Great base point for day trips around Limerick (we were able to do both Galway and Cork in a couple days). Donagh was incredibly friendly and available for whatever we needed. Loved it. Highly recommend.

  • Really a beautiful space and a fantastic setting!

    Mike2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Donagh’s farm cottage is a perfect example of the best kind of Airbnb experiences. A beautiful cottage on a working farm, in a location we would otherwise never have found. The cottage was great for our family of four, and our daughters loved being able to interact with the farm’s animals. Highly recommend!

  • A beautiful & comfortable cottage, in a beautiful & peaceful environment, close to Limerick & it 's galleries & museums.

    Jill2019-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • My sister lives in the area and told me I would not regret booking a stay at Donagh’s place -how right she was! The accommodation was so warm and cosy and there was a wonderful outdoor space where our small children could play. It’s a working farm so my toddler was fascinated with the ‘tows’ as she called them and loved the dogs, who were so friendly.Donagh was a fantastic host and really was very quick to respond to our needs. It is such a beautiful landscape there too which I feel is a real tonic for city dwellers.. highly recommended and in my opinion great for families!

    Amy2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Donagh’s home is off the beaten path and well worth driving the extra time to get there. Tucked away on a farm, it is peaceful, scenic and very charming. For those who appreciate solitude, it is very quite. Be sure to save time to walk the farm and take in the beautiful landscape. Donagh was warm and welcoming, showing us around and making sure we felt at home. The cottage was comfortable and - since it was a chilly day - the heated floors were fantastic. It’s has all the amenities you’d find in your own home. As it is a bit out of town, we suggestion bringing groceries for your meals or be prepared for a drive to get to restaurants. Our only regret was to stay just a single night.

    Kirsten2018-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Donagh's place. Quiet, relaxing and beautiful setting with plenty of animals for our three year old to enjoy. We didn't stay long enough!
