Places to stay in Pooley Bridge
HerdyView Lodge is situated in a peaceful location, overlooking rolling hills surrounded by nature on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is a cosy, modern 3 bedroom chalet with a log burner. Situated close to the market town of Penrith and Lake Ullswater it is in a perfect location for exploring the Lake District and the Eden Valley. Away from the tourist crowds but also within easy access to hotspots and amenities. There are attractions in the local area for all ages and interests.
HerdyView Lodge is a Scandinavian lodge based on a small, quiet residential site and is surrounded by local farming land on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It is within easy access to the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Peninnes. Surrounded by local wildlife and plenty of walks. The lodge is well equipped for all self catering needs and comprises of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan lounge/kitchen. Guests are free to use the log burner and wood is provided for their first fire. The old traditional large windows at the front opens onto a decking area that overlooks fields in front (often occupied by Herdwick sheep). At the back of the lodge is a small garden with seating where a small BBQ and fire pit are also provided. Here also there is a small herb garden to use. There is space for two cars to park at the front of the property. There is always tea and coffee to use as well. The space is very peaceful and relaxing with herdwick sheep, rabbits, deer and cows regularly occupying the view. The lodge is convenient for the M6 north and south also.
The lodge is 5 minutes from the Market Town of Penrith and 5 minutes to Lake Ullswater. There are plenty of nice pubs, tearooms and restaurants nearby to enjoy. There is a pub within walking distance serving local ales and food. The nearest villages include Askham (an pretty village where Askham hall is located who have an award winning tea room and restaurant), Lowther (where you can explore Lowther Castle and Gardens), Tirril (the Queens Head pub here sells award winning pies). There is direct access to numerous walks/cycle routes in this surrounding area, Eden valley, Lowther land and the North Lake District fells. Lake Ullswater has many walks connected by the Ullswater steamer boats, access to different water sports and many other attractions. Pooley bridge is the nearest point on the Lake, where there are pubs, tea rooms, shops and walks. Another fantastic area to explore is Haweswater reservoir, a quieter place and where walks are more remote and equally, if not more, beautiful (if you have a Northern Lakes OS map then the front cover is a picture on a walk at Haweswater). The Market town of Penrith provides you with local amenities, supermarkets, independent shops and cafes. There are many places to take children nearby, visitor centres (such as Rheged and bird of prey centre), an ice cream farm and also many historical sites to see for example Lowther and Brough castle. From the lodge you can easily explore a wide variety of areas, not just the Lake District National Park but also the Pennines, Eden valley and the historic north Cumbria (such as Hadrians wall!)

  • Stayed here for a relaxing weekend. The place was great. Comfortable, with everything you need to have a chilled time with friends. All the great info provided before we arrived meant that we could just pull up and make ourselves at home, but May was very hospitable and happy to provide any help we needed. We would stay here again.

  • We had a fantastic stay in Herdyview, what a stylish, cosy lodge! The log burner was lovely and kept the lodge warm and cosy, even during Storm Dennis! The beds are really comfy and the views are amazing. Sadly we couldn’t make use of the veranda but would highly recommend the lodge.

  • Charlotte was a great host, giving clear directions and easy to communicate with. The place was very clean and an ideal base for a couple to explore the Lake District.

  • Charlotte's place is lovely and cosy. We had a brilliant weekend and would love to stay again!

    Jonathan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was one of the best hosts I’ve dealt with on AirBnB, she went above and beyond for us and was incredibly accommodating. The Granary itself was a beautiful property and the views were amazing, the rooms and bathroom were clean and everything worked perfectly! I would love to be back and would definitely recommend.

    Faiz2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte's lovely Penrith getaway is amazing! It's the perfect size for a couple or individual to get that country escape you're after! She is also a polite and very responsive host, so you'll never feel like there is anything missing as she definitely delivers that personal touch. Would highly recommend.

  • Charlotte's place was the perfect stop for us when travelling up to Scotland. The directions she provided were so helpful in finding the place as due to traffic we arrived later than planned. When something went wrong Charlotte and her husband were so helpful in sorting it out. Have already recommended to friends and family to stay at Charlottes place!

Thornythwaite Farm is a cosy smallholding tucked into the foot of the fells above Ullswater lake. We're lucky enough to have space to work and play in this beautiful place, and for our growing menagerie of hens, ducks, sheep and bees. The fells are on our doorstep with the lake a 5 minute drive down into the valley and Keswick and Penrith are both easily reached in quarter of an hour. Dockray is a 5 minute walk down the road and is home to The Royal hotel which serves great food all day.
    Cosy en-suite bedroom.
The farm stands alone in its own land, surrounded by fields but with easy access to the road and local footpaths. It is a quiet and peaceful location, lots of birdsong and lovely views. There is the 400 year old Matterdale Church just across the road and a smattering of five neighbouring houses. The village of Dockray is a 7 minute walk away along a footpath which follows the road where The Royal Hotel serves food and drink. Thornythwaite Farm is a great location, nestled in the hills in the valley of Matterdale, close to lake Ullswater and great for walks. It is a lovely hour’s walk through woodland and past the water falls (Aira Force) to the lake where boats (the Ullswater Steamers) make trips to various points around the lake including Pooley Bridge . There are trails along the lake as well as walks up into the hills. There is a Sailing centre in Glenridding for boat hire.
  • Such a beautiful place to stay. Jim, Victoria and the family are so very lovely. We'd recommend to anybody.

  • The description of the apartment was 100% accurate. It's in a perfect position for Pooley Bridge and all of its amenities. We've had a perfect stay ! Thank you .

    Mike2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, just as described - a warm and cosy haven for our February visit to Ullswater.

    Andrew2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another fantastic stay at Pooley Bridge. Lovely apartment with great amenities. We will probably be back (again) at some point!

    Emma2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here, great place in a stunning location!

    John2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! Stayed here end of January 2020 with my fiancé and our dog for our 5 year anniversary as a weekend away. Pooley Bridge is a fantastic little village in beautiful surroundings. Handy shop next door to the apartment, pub and cafe also. Didn’t visit the cafe however the pub next door was very good, great food and friendly staff. The people in the village were all very friendly and welcoming, we met some really great people during our stay. The apartment itself was immaculate. Apart from an unfortunate problem with one of the light units upon arrival which was rectified almost immediately by Hazel. There were various little touches which didn’t go unnoticed but makes a massive difference, for example ear plugs, face wipes and various leaflets for days out in the lakes. For the dog there was a basket with throws, dog bed and a bowl ! The apartment was always warm, if anything too hot for January! But there’s a smart meter to adjust if needed. WiFi was spot on. Bathroom immaculate, shower and bath great, shampoo and shower gel provided, hairdryer to use and plenty of clean towels. Bed was seriously comfy!! Also a mini dressing table in the bedroom. Kitchen was great again, everything you need, all the utilities appeared brand new?! Living room / sofa area was fine, if you’re spending all your time on the sofa your doing the lakes wrong!! Ullswater is a 2 min walk away, the views are spectacular as they are around a lot of the lakes, however having it on your door step is an added extra. The steamer boat is a 5 minute walk away across the bridge as well. I really can’t complain about the stay in general at all, the bridge in the village is under repair due to a storm which meant access to the other side of the Ullswater was more difficult however we knew about this prior to arriving so wasn’t an issue as we walked everywhere anyway. Parking was hard to come by, we were lucky most nights to get a space in the car park outside the pub which is free but again nothing that Colin / hazel can do about that and there are other car park spaces around the village if required. Overall a perfect stay and we will definitely look at staying here again! 10/10

    Lewis2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly placed apartment overlooking the river where you can sit in the kitchen and eat breakfast while watching the wildlife. With a nice smart tv and comfortable furnishings and a bed that doesn’t hurt your back the place was really perfect. The place was absolutely spotless and the kitchen is new and very smart. For two it’s the perfect retreat for a break. The surrounding area speaks for itself. I can’t get enough of the Lake District. So many things to see and do I need to get back her very soon. Thanks to the hosts our stay was that bit more special.

    Stuart2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage in a perfect location for exploring around Ullswater out the lakes in general. This was our second stay and pretty sure we'll be back for a third

    Kris2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this cottage for a relaxed New Years and Anniversary trip away and it couldn’t have been more perfect for it. The apartment is spotless and spacious with a location that couldn’t have been better. It’s central location is meters from good food, pubs, local stores and a stones throw from Ullswater. This meant we could easily set out on walks throughout the day and choose a new place to eat every night without having travel, and with Penrith a 10 minute drive away that offered even more choice. The apartment is great value for money and the hosts are very responsive, I would definitely stay here again.

There was another guest but I didn't hear them. Pretty place near the church. Some church bells but to be expected and to be honest it was such a pleasant stay that I can't fault. Wonderful breakfast. Highly recommend and I would use again.

The Garden Flat is in a wonderfully peaceful location overlooking Ullswater with panoramic views of timeless yet ever-changing fells, lake and sky. Experience it all from the bay window seat, sofa or even the bed, from the bench outside or on the lawns of Wreay Mansions. Step out of our front door in to an unforgettable landscape. We're on the Ullswater Way walking route and Pooley Bridge is close by. Enjoy a pint brewed at the Brackenrigg Inn. Fine dine or wild swim at Another Place.
This superbly-situated flat has already enjoyed some big changes – the start of a transformation to make it the perfect place to enjoy Ullswater. There is an open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge with new John Lewis oven, hob and dishwasher, new pans by Green Pan and a striking teal sofa by Gallery Hudson. In the bedroom we have a new Ercol Teramo double bed, and you can enjoy luxurious linen from Tielle Love Luxury – we discovered it at the fabulous Pig hotels chain. There's a new Sony Bravia TV with around 80 channels and radio stations available and if you have a Netflix account you can connect up. And you can listen to your own music using our Minirig speaker. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a bath and a shower. There is a lobby so you don't need to bring muddy boots or wet gear in to the flat. And a private parking bay is included. The flat has an impressive sandstone portico and a huge bay window where the views of Ullswater and the fells – including Helvellyn – are unforgettable.
Wreay Mansions is a cluster of apartments converted from a historic 19th century hunting lodge with elevated views of Ullswater – Wainwright's "loveliest of lakes" and the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The new Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Just down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn with more great views, food including Sunday lunch, its own microbrewery and – in winter – a big, roaring fire. Bustling Pooley Bridge – with its pubs, shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is a new temporary footbridge and free car park to use until the new stainless steel crossing opens this spring to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge or the famous Sharrow Bay hotel on the opposite shore. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. Fuel is competitive and there's great local food and drink on sale.
  • Communication with Matt prior to the stay was great, with lots of helpful information. Check in process was all very simple with a lock box and the view from the apartment, across the yard and to the lake/mountains is stunning no matter the weather! Heating in the flat was great and the added touches of underfloor heating and a fully equipped/new kitchen were great. A perfect base for a weekend in the Lake District

    Alex2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This a beautiful place to visit in the lakes, stunning views from the flat. Easy to access, lots of beautiful walks and also lots of information in the books matt provided. A pub round the corner with lovely food. Perfect getaway. The hosts extra little touches made us feel even more welcome.

  • A wonderful apartment with great facilities and an amazing view. Great host who communicates well and adds some lovely touches. Would highly recommend.

  • I would highly recommend staying at the Garden Flat! We stayed for a weekend and the flat was spectacular with views that can't be beat. With amazing kitchen amenities, we were able to cook multiple meals and sit and relax with some of the fun games and TV provided. Matt provided excellent food and walk recommendations as well. We hope to come back in the future!

  • One of the best Airbnb’s I’ve stayed at. The view from the living room is second to none. A great place to use as a base from adventures in the Lakes.

  • Absolutely amazing would 100% recommendfor a quick couple of days away

    Daniel2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The garden flat is just simply perfect. It is in the most beautiful location with the most fantastic view. We were lucky enough to have a night of clear sky so being able to watch the stars from the window seat was pretty special. Matt has created a open living space that is practical, cosy and stylish. We loved the original art work around the flat, it is clear a lot of thought has gone in to making this a special little space. Matt was a great host and offered great advice about places to eat and visit in the local area. The flat was sparkling clean and the little welcome gifts were a lovely touch. The garden flat really is the perfect place to stay in the most beautiful location, we loved it and are already planning on when we will be returning. Thanks for creating such a beautiful place Matt!

    Kimberley2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully peaceful stay with stunning views over the lake. Great places were recommended to eat all within a short drive and some lovely little touches to the flat topped it off. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quiet getaway.

Free parking on the property's driveway and space also available to store equipment.
Sitting just 5 minutes from Penrith and the M6 this guest suite is in an ideal place for exploring the Lake District, town and surrounding areas. The most direct route to the closest lake Ullswater we find takes no more than 15 minutes (although Google maps says 17!). The guest suite is centrally heated by a renewable energy source. Downstairs it has a kitchen with a microwave oven, portable induction hob and a large selection of utensils. Across from the kitchen there is a sitting area where guests are able to relax by the electric opti-myst fireplace. Leading off the kitchen along the hallway there is the bathroom which has a walk in shower and heated towel rail. Upstairs is where the bedroom is located with a very comfortable king size bed and an electric blanket. The TV has all freeview channels and Netflix which has a large range of films, documentaries and TV series and can be used for free so is a perfect way to relax at the end of a day. The suite has keyless entry so guests are able to check themselves in. Across from the suite there is a heated utility room where guests are able to dry wet and muddy clothes/boots and store bikes/equipment. *Please note the driveway can be a bit narrow if you're in a large van*
  • Delightful please to stay, would definitely recommend.

  • Stunning place which felt cosy and welcoming, can’t recommend highly enough. Beautiful location and a great local pub also added to the experience!

    Kieran2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • I really liked this place. It was smaller than I realised from the photos, but cosy and everything I needed was there, including some very inventive space saving gadgets. The host was friendly and informative. The bedroom was really comfortable, the place was very warm and clean and the bathroom/shower were all clean and hot. Ideal for single people I would say. I would use this place again without hesitation. (Also excellent pub with great food about 5-10 minutes walk away).

    Garry2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place. Better than I expected. Loved the little touches of the fresh flowers and the snowdrop flowers on the windowsill. The little basket with goodies in too. Will definitely stay again and have already recommended to family and friends.

    Jennie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage and a really good host.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Alister's guest suite was really lovely and cozy. He had thought about everything, and we had everything we needed and more (the heated blanket in the bedroom was incredible and we loved our morning eggs!) Alister even gave us a guide including recommended walks and places to visit, and when we were struggling on where to eat, he gave us great recommendations, and let us know about potential traffic problems nearby beforehand. Would absolutely recommend and we'd definitely love to come back again!

    Megan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say. Everything we have at home and more. We took out hot water bottles but an electric blanket negates the need for them. Quiet village apart from strong winds. Some lovely touches like fresh eggs and artisan bread just added that extra special touch. Highly recommend this as a great place to stay. Just to add we left a night early as we had to rush home. Without any prompting Ali refunded us £25. That's what we call great service. Thanks Ali

Greystoke is a stunning village, the centre of which is a mere 200 yards away. We have a fabulous pub "The Boot & Shoe", a village shop where you can buy everything you may need and we are lucky enough for it still to retain it's Post Office! A short walk from the central Shop/Post Office will allow you to take in the splendour of our 14th Century Church, itself quite spectacular and something to take a look at. About 7 miles from Greystoke you will find our nearest stretch of water "Lake Ullswater" and it's just stunning. We have Pooley Bridge to one side, then Glenridding and Patterdale to the other, all have boats to hire so you can explore the Lake for yourselves, but there is always the Ferry's that can collect and drop you off at various points throughout the length of the Lake. A 20 minute drive and you could be in Keswick, a wonderful town with lots to see and do, and them there hills and mountains are calling for you to climb them. Grasmere, Ambleside and Windemere are not much further so you'll be spoilt for choice as you are surrounded with the beauty of the Lake District. Carlisle is also about a 20 minute drive from here in the other direction, itself is a fascinating place to visit, with it'a Castle and Cathedral, Tullie House Museum and much more. Just a little further and you have "Hadrian's Wall" and the Roman Fort "Birdoswald"

  • Hazel and Ian are great hosts and are on hand to answer any queries. The property was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed for my stay. Breakfast supplies were provided and were much appreciated. Will book again.

  • Hazel and Ian make you feel very welcome on arrival , and they did the same for our dogs ! The accommodation is lovely and cozy and just what we needed as a stop over on our way to the Highlands. Will definitely revisit !

    Jim2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place with a real in-the-middle-of-nowhere feel, but only a few hundred metres away from Greystoke centre and a lovely pub. Beautiful scenery all around, loads of great walks and many pheasants and other birds roaming the grounds. We visited during early Feb 2020, during heavy flooding, but the grounds and the local roads were pretty much unaffected by the floods. The accommodation is lovely and warm, and the boiler room was warm enough to dry all of our stuff! There's plenty of parking and Hazel gave us a truly warm welcome and all of the information we needed about the area. We'll be back.

    Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay very clean lovely location. Owners were very helpful and friendly would highly recommend staying here.

Small converted outbuilding next to our family home, with own entrance. Ideal Coast to Coast Cycle stopover or to use Penrith as a base. Easy access to the town (10min walk but with a quite steep hill on the way back!) as well as being within 5 miles of the National Park and Ullswater. The property looks over Penrith to the hills and is within a few minutes walk of local woods. Sleeps two people comfortably but able to accommodate up to 4 in total.
Upstairs bedroom - double bed, additional single mattress available, drawers, patio door to garden area/washing line. Downstairs living area - with double sofa bed, armchair, TV, stereo, microwave/convection oven, dining table. Kitchen area (downstairs) - fridge, sink, electric kettle, toaster, mugs, glasses, basic cutlery. Shower room (downstairs) - loo, small sink, shower. Secure bike storage available in our garage. Please note that the stairs to the bedroom are quite steep and may not be suitable for toddlers. The stairs do not have safety gates. Please also be aware that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. The cooking facilities are a little limited as there is no hob and limited space to prepare food. However, there is a combination microwave (Microwave, Convection Oven and Grill) for heating simple or ready meals. We also live within 10mins of the town centre, for anyone wanting a more substantial meal or to pick up supplies. We have three children, a dog (collie), a cat and some hens - all are friendly! They do not enter the guest accommodation but you may come into contact with them outside.... We are happy to have your children here. We are also happy for you to bring one dog by prior arrangement.
Penrith is a small market town on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Our property is in town and we are within walking distance of several supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, take aways, pubs, an independent cinema, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall. We are also very close to Beacon Edge, a popular wooded area for dog walks.
  • This is a no brainer for us. If we are in that area then this is the first place we look to stay. It quaint, stylish and perfect from both a size and location size and the added touches of fresh bread, milk, cereal selections etc are just great. Highly recommend

  • What a cracking find. After a trip to the north lakes spa, we wanted somewhere convenient and suitable for 3 ladies to share! This was perfect. The accommodation is quite compact- but we didn’t need much space. The space is lovely- very nicely decorated and I liked all the cycling and running books/ maps etc. The host was super welcoming and even helped us find a local running route so we could have a bit of an explore. The little touches like supplying bread, yogurt, cereal etc was lovely. We couldn’t make the most of it as we had plans for breakfast out but it was a nice touch. A fab little place and we’ll definitely be back!!

Cosy studio apartment in central Penrith. Wi-Fi and parking available!! Perfect location to go explore the lake district and beautiful town of Penrith, 10 minute walk from the train station. Lovely cafes, and delicious restaurants, great antique stores to go explore in the town! All walking distance!
The historic building is made up of five separate apartments. My apartment is on the first floor. The studio is a well lit, modern and stylish with a double bed with a double bunk bed on top. I have a washing machine which guests are welcome to use as well as all other necessary appliances. Cyclists are welcome to store their bikes indoors, and motorcycle tourers are able to park their motorcycle safely outside the apartment building. I will try to accommodate early check in and late check out requests, and I will try to accommodate early and late baggage drop/storage where it will help a guest’s situation. GUESTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE THEIR OWN BEDDING WHEN THEY RESERVE THE APARTMENT LATE ON THE SAME DAY.
The apartment is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Penrith at the NorthEast gateway to the Lake District. Extremely convenient for the many restaurants of the town. Ample parking, very close to the bus station and a short walk to the train station. The apartment is part of a grade 2 listed historic building with an attractive communal entrance which my co host and I maintain ourselves.

  • Amazing area full of great views of the country side. Loads of shopping nearby for days out and plenty of pubs and restaurants to go to. Very nice and comfortable apartment with an excellent indoor pool and hot tub and also a gym. I would definitely recommend this place very happy with my stay here

    Leah2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I had a perfect Christmassy getaway here. If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful and secluded to get away from it all- this is it. The self contained apartment has everything you need for a stay away, home away from home. The bed is huge and so so comfy. The bath is also big and perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day. The space is sparkling clean and situated just upstairs from reception and the pool/spa facilities, so you don’t even need to go outside to get there. But don’t worry about any noise, all I could hear in the evenings and at night was the odd sheep bahhh-ing and, silence! Bliss! Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here, and I’d love to go back already- I didn’t want to leave.

  • Kath’s place was great and a perfect stopover for our trip to Scotland. It was squeaky clean, comfortable and warm. Both hosts very friendly and helpful. They recommend an excellent pub for our evening meal.

  • Simon and Kath are the loveliest hosts. We were driving from afar and had to check in late, yet they were happy to greet us. The room was SUPER CLEAN! Location was great, it was exactly what we needed! They also had the cutest cat! So thank you so much for such a lovely experience!!

  • Great hospitality, a high level of cleanliness and friendliness. Great honesty bar which is well stocked. Toiletries, towels and tea/coffee making facilities supplied (with real fresh milk), as is a hairdryer. Located about 15-20mins on foot to the centre of town, and about 10mins from the train station. Within easy reach of the roundabout which has links to the M6 and A66.

    Kathleen2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • I didn't get the chance of staying at Kath's and cancelled the trip at the last minute as my friends by surprise had arranged accommodation in Penrith for us near the party we were attending. However the room looked super on the website.

    Liisa2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic space that’s just perfect after a long day. Room was sparkling clean, bed was comfy and the shower was lovely and hot- all I needed! Kath and Simon were very welcoming and offers suggestions for eating out. A fab 5 stars and will definately be booking again next year. Thank you!

Room 1 comes with TV, dining table and settee as well as a self contained kitchen. It is above a Tea Room in the Church Yard. very quiet area of Penrith except for the church bells occasionally. Some meals can be provided at extra cost. Room 2 is smaller with a double bed, tv, kettle, double wardrobe and chest of drawers
Center location, though quite, with access to local shops and amenities.
The room is situated in St Andrews Church Yard and park area, in the heart of Penrith, with local amenities very accessible. The church clock is right outside the window but the chimes are turned off at night time, however, the church bells are rung occasionally each week.

A stunning, modern cottage set within an ex-farm conversion. Views across the Eastern Lake District and Blencathra. Two double bedrooms, and two bathrooms make it a perfect getaway for two couples or a family. The cottage is only 5 minutes off the M6, and you can be on the edge of Lake Ullswater within 15 minutes. The local village has a fantastic country pub dating from the 17th Century, swimming pool and shop. This really is the perfect location for discovering the Lake District!
The cottage is situated in an ex-farm: Red Barn Farm. Originally part of Greystoke Castle Estate, Red Barn is comprised of 5 separate dwellings, two houses are occupied by the joint owners, and the remaining three are let for holidays. Red Barn is set in 2 acres of beautiful garden, which our free-range chickens love to wander. You can see straight across to Blencathra from our houses. Feel free to use the outdoor patio area for eating or relaxing.
Greystoke is a rural village, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by mountains, and only 10-15mins from the nearest lake, it is a picturesque area. The village of Greystoke, which can be reached by a 5-10min walk from the property, has a great pub, swimming pool in the summer and village shop/post office. The property is only 5mins from the M6, Junction 40.
  • Had a brilliant time at the beautiful cottage. The place was very clean, tidy and spacious, tasteful decor. lovely countryside location, away from it all. Spent evenings by the wood burning stove, which was great after spending days exploring amazing lakes and mountains. Really appreciated thoughtful touches such as milk, fudge and a bottle of Prosecco. Would highly recommend

  • Can’t say enough about this lovely cottage and accommodating hosts. The cottage was a perfect blend of traditional features with modern comforts. Clean and well presented throughout, with a friendly host and lots of tips for local hot spots. The location was great, with lots of beautiful spots in the northern lakes nearby, along with practical amenities in nearby Penrith. We would definitely stay again and have already recommend to others.

A short walk onto the fell above the village, enjoy panoramic views over Ullswater (3m walk to Pooley Bridge) and the mountains beyond, it's fun to explore the many prehistoric standing stones and the Cockpit stone circle, left by Helton's Stone Age settlers. There are many footpaths and cycle routes right from the door, cycle hire available a couple of miles away at Lowther Castle. If you have children to entertain, Lowther Castle is less than an hour's walk along the river from the house and their amazing Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind are always a hit. You can enjoy the return walk through the pretty village of Askham via the Punchbowl Inn, Askham Hall Garden Cafe or the Queen's Head. There's also a small traditional village store in Askham stocking a good range of food and drink. In summer, there's a well kept heated outdoor swimming pool in Askham, open weekends and weekday afternoons through the school holidays. There are a wide variety of activities and great village pubs either within walking distance or close by. The award winning Askham Hall restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin Star, is only 1.5 miles away! The nearest supermarkets and shops are in Penrith, 15mins drive. For keen walkers, Ullswater is only 3 miles away on foot, over the fell above our village, where you can join the Ullswater Way and combine a walk with a ride on one of the Ullswater Steamers. Or you can continue walking along the old 'Roman road' footpath across the fell towards Haweswater, giving access to the 'High Street' range of mountains.
  • You really won’t regret staying here. A lovely cosy cottage, with everything you might need. A warm welcome from the thoughtful host awaits you, with lots of tips of what to go see & do. Highly recommended!

  • Claire and Chris were very welcoming and made our stay. I would recommend this as a place to stay if you want a quiet getaway in the lakes

    Angus2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage, at an outstanding location and two amazing hosts. The cottage is very spacious and has a very warm feeling. The location is marvellous and close to many local attractions. Claire was very welcoming and extremely helpful with tips and suggestions for activities; they were quick to bring us bottled water when the bad weather cause damage on pipes and the water pressure was reduced. We had a great break, enjoying not only the outdoors but also the cottage and hope to get there soon for some more

    Spiridoula2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

    Jason2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such an awesome place to stay! Outstanding communication, great location, super friendly and welcoming and the space is so cosy and lovely. Would love to stay again! Claire is a wonderful host and gives super helpful tips as well. Thanks so much!

    Toni2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very well and tastefully furnished property - not the kind of place where you realise that you’re missing salt, a bottle opener etc. Everything has been thought of and is coherent, tasteful. The property is semi-detached (adjoins Claire’s house) but this is not an issue at all; we had complete privacy and the hosting was absolutely unintrusive. Claire and her husband know local walks and can advise if needed. The location is quite unique, in that it is very quickly reached from the M6 and yet entirely rural and within immediate reach of classic Lakes walks.

Comfortable room in a Victorian town house with separate but private shower room and toilet . We are located in the center of Penrith with all amenities within walking distance.
This room is within a 4 star guest house at a lower price than our other rooms based on a minimum 4 night stay.
Penrith is a market town and lies 3 miles outside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park
  • Very clean and Tidy. Very comfortable. Great value. Very flexible and amenable host

  • This is an Airbnb in a very popular guest house 5 minutes from the centre of Penrith. The quality of the room is the same as the B&B. I think the only difference is that you don't get ensuite. However the facilities are for your exclusive use and of a very high standard. Would recommend.

    Robin2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place and it is conveniently located. Susan is very accommodating even with my crazy “Photographer schedule”. I highly recommend it.

    Manuel2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts , nothing too much bother , I will be back

    Don2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Susan is a lovely friendly host who is very accommodating. Shower always had constant supply of hot water (much more reliable than my own). Tea & coffee making facilties was a nice touch. Shower & toilet private, but not en-suite, but this wasn't a surprise, as the room description makes this clear, and was not an issue. Room was on 2nd floor, which again i knew and was not an issue. Very good value, and B&B is centrally located in Penrith, so ideal for those using trains/buses. Very nice walk through the woods to the Beacon on the summit of the hill behind town. Would heartily recommend.

    Jus2018-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Centrally located and friendly host. Susan is attentive and helpful and keeps the rooms spotless. Would happily return!

    Barbara2018-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great experience at Albany House. Responsive communication from Susan during booking process. I was greeted in person upon arrival and shown to my room. The room is just as it is presented in the photos and description on the booking site. Impeccably clean and comfortable. This is a private room with a sink/tap in the room. The bathroom and shower room are private but separate from the bedroom. This was clearly stated in the booking and it was not a problem at all. There are a few key features which are important to me which influence my satisfaction and thus my review of a property as follows: 1. Parking 2. WiFi 3. Comfort/cleanliness 4. Abundance of hot water for shower Albany House delivers positively on all accounts. Parking is on street, but free and a local parking disc is provided. I never had any problem finding a space. The broadband speed is excellent. The signal strength was a bit weak in my top floor room, but it did work most of the time. The room is well appointed, thoughtfully presented, and quite comfortable. The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Fresh towels and toiletries provided and topped up daily. The guest house does offer breakfast for an additional fee, but I cannot comment on it as my schedule did not allow me to partake. In summary, my experience at Albany House exceeded my expectations. It is an excellent value for money. I hope to return again in the future.

    Jeff2018-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Good accomodation for the price and location. Super clean. Tea making facilities available in room and TV. The toilet and shower were not en suite but that didn't bother me. They were clean and worked fine with plenty of hot water. Very good.

I would have no qualms recommending this accommodation to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in this area.

  • A little slice of heaven in the Lake District. We fell in love with the boathouse, every little detail has been considered, a perfect little get away with the most magical views. We lapped up every minute from the log fire, to cups of tea over looking the lake and made a beautiful tea in the kitchen (that quite possibly has every utensil going!). When we did venture to Pooly Bridge the local amenities were great, we pitstopped in Granny Doubekins where the team were so lovely! Would 100% recommend to anyone, we are already looking for a date to come back 💕

  • Hopland Cottage is homely and comfortable. A real home from home. Jan and Dan were the perfect hosts, friendly and welcoming. The offer to pick me up and take me to the train station was an added touch I wasn’t expecting. It made my travel so much easier. Easy access to Penrith and Keswick on the bus, 5mins walk away. Village is friendly and quiet. Walks from the door. A really peaceful and relaxing stay x

  • Simply perfect! Beautifully appointed but homely cottage in a stunning location. Would highly recommend 👍🏻

    Annette2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jan and Dan set the highest standards for being super hosts! Their attention to every detail was remarkable...initial greeting & orientation, informative well-prepared house book, great tips & recommendations, etc. They anticipated every comfort & convenience and supplied it with generosity. We were delighted to meet them! And the dear, beautifully restored cottage was a complete luxury of charming comfort: furnishings, linens, decorating, all amenities were the highest quality & such a pleasure to enjoy. Oh, and the very beautiful garden & patio was a joy. Hopland Cottage is not a standard Airbnb. It is exceptional! We rented for a month and felt we were in a dreamy storeybook illustration, that we didn't want to leave. As an added bonus, Stainton is a sweet village & a perfect location for day trips to the surrounding towns & lakes. Also, the nearby buses are reliable, comfortable & a good alternative to using the car. If you want to visit the lovely Lake District, you couldn't choose a more perfect home away from home.

    Terry2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Hopland cottage! The cottage was tastefully decorated, warm and inviting and had all one would need for a "delightful weekend in the country" I'm quoting from the film, Withnail and I, I'm a huge fan, a lot of the movie was filmed in the surrounding areas, which the hosts were aware of and they were happy to give us a little more history on that, which was greatly appreciated. It's a perfect spot for some amazing walks, pub lunches and of course a beautiful drive to Lake Windermere, even through it rained most of the time, we thoroughly enjoyed it and still managed to take a boat out on the lake and enjoy some cosy fireside dinners. Would highly recommend! Thank you again Jan & Dan!

  • I was taken care of for 4 days by traveling alone. There was no bus on weekends, but the host checked the recommended walking points every morning and sent them to the bus stop where the bus was out. Postcard-like scenery, farms have footpaths everywhere, so you can walk inside. Very recommended. Sindy and Terry (and lovely colli) were very nice and thoughtful! The room and en-suite bathroom were clean and tidy, also full English breakfast was lovely. You'll see the view like postcard. I'll definitely come back! Ryoko

  • What a wonderful experience we had at La Ruche in Tirril! Sindy and Terry were the perfect hosts. They were very willing to answer any of our questions and make recommendations, all the while totally respecting our privacy. Our accommodations were spotless and the bountiful breakfast filled us to the brim! In addition, the separate entrance gives real indépendance to the traveler. We would return to La Ruche again and again!

Would highly recommend anyone visiting Lake District to stay here. It was really a 10/10 experience and couldn’t fault it in any way.

The apartment is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Penrith at the NorthEast gateway to the Lake District. Extremely convenient for the many restaurants of the town. Ample parking, very close to the bus station and a short walk to the train station. The apartment is part of a grade 2 listed historic building with an attractive communal entrance. Please note that I take responsibility for the up keep of the communal entrance and alley way for the Airbnb guests.
The historic building is made up of five separate apartments. My apartment is conveniently on the ground floor next to the communal area. The studio is a well lit and stylish living space with two double beds (in bunk formation) and a sofa bed. Cyclists are welcome to store their bikes indoors, and motorcycle tourers are able to park their motorcycles outside beneath the apartment window. I will try to accommodate early check in and late check out requests, and I will try to accommodate early and late baggage drop/storage where it will help a guest’s situation. GUESTS MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A SMALL STUDIO. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY TO SLEEP FIVE PEOPLE BUT THE SMALL SPACE IS NOT IDEAL FOR LARGE GROUPS. IF YOU ARE RESERVING THIS APARTMENT PLEASE APPRECIATE THAT IT IS ONLY A SMALL SPACE. Also, we have no television reception in the apartment. However, there is a library of DVDs, books, CDs and video games, and, of course, we have WiFi so as you can always watch your television shows via the internet.
The apartment is situated just off the Main Street in Penrith. Although the alley way is not the most attractive part of Penrith it is a very convenient location for accessing all that Penrith offers.
  • Small and perfectly formed. Great location too. My 10 year old son loved the bunk beds and great contact with Shaun, the host. Hope to come back again next year!

We enjoyed friday evening eating in and playing games around the table. Saturday we eat at a local pub. During the days we enjoyed walking, and were pleased to come back to a warm cottage with room to hang our wet coats. Towels were provided and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable.

The Cottage is a recently restored Grade 2* building which has been modernised for comfort situated in the centre of the pretty historic market town of Penrith within easy reach of the Lake District. It has a south-facing private walled garden
The property has a private sunny garden and patio, with level access from its own designated parking area to the key-coded front door, and is in easy walking distance of the town centre. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, a downstairs toilet/ utility room with washing machine and drying rack. The living room has two large comfortable sofas, a wood burner with a starter pack of logs (and more available to purchase if required), wall tv with wi-fi. Easy stairs lead up to a light landing, a master bedroom with brass double bed, a full-sized underfloor-heated bathroom, a second double or twin bedroom with cosy ensuite shower room also with underfloor heating, and a third child's/single daybed bedroom, all bedrooms having window seats overlooking a private front garden. At the rear is a lockable yard with house and/or street access where bicycles, canoes, etc. can be stored in relative safety.
The town is renowned for its food shops and good cafes/cakes. Try Chapter 12 in Little Dockray! This is the 'centre' of Britain, close to the Scottish Border, right between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Penrith is famous for annual events, such as the Potfest exhibition, the Lowther Horse Trials, and the Winter Droving parade. There is an independent cinema, a good leisure centre, and the Rheged underground exhibition centre is one mile away.
  • This 'cottage' is BEAUTUFUL! Being called 'the cottage', we expected a small, cosy accommodation. It was certainly cosy and homely but we found it to be very spacious and grand with gorgeous window seats with shutters and antique decor. Full of vintage charm and interesting things to look at. On arrival we found a selection of essentials....tea, coffee, juice, milk and a tin of biscuits which went down very well with our boys! Such a thoughtful touch! There was everything we needed in the cottage and enough wood provided to have a good fire for each of our three nights. We found the cottage to be spotless. The location of cottage is perfect to wander into Penrith by foot or explore the local area by car. The car parking space was secure and right next to the cottage. Rachel and Andrew were the perfect hosts. Communication was excellent before, during and after. Thank you for a wonderful stay in your stunning home.

My property is a beautiful, character-filled Edwardian townhouse, slowly undergoing renovation. The room is a nice sized double bedroom and in a quiet location, situated on a square with a wonderful private residents garden. The room is minutes away on foot to the train station and to the town centre with plenty of great supermarkets also very close by. The house is occupied by myself and I’ll be on hand to offer advice and recommendations. Meals can be arranged on request.
The house also has a private patio to the rear and is located on a delightful private gated garden which you are free to use for your relaxation. Please note that there is no access to the kitchen.
The house is part of a conservation area and is a highly sought after area, being centrally located yet very quiet. Nord Vue Barn is conveniently situated in the Lakeland village of Penruddock, which benefits from very easy access to the M6 and only 15 minutes drive to both Keswick and Ullswater. The property was an 18th Century barn which the owners converted to an extremely spacious holiday cottage, with the best of traditional and modern features. It is ideally situated for people wanting to go fell walking, running, mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding and other mountain and lake activities.
Since 2012 Nord Vue Barn has consistently achieved the VisitEngland 4 Star Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service.
Penruddock is a very friendly village with a local pub, school and village hall.

  • Beautiful barn space in the heart of the Lake District. Easy access to Penrith and surrounding nature. Would recommend.
