Places to stay in Mangersta
When you arrive at The Mangersta Pod you will find yourself in an extremely clean and comfortable haven. To ensure you have a good night's sleep the camping mattresses were replaced by a comfortable mattress right from the start. Situated in the village of Mangersta on the Atlantic coast of Lewis, the pod is a few minutes walk away from a remote beach and stunning cliff walks. This is an area of exceptional natural beauty with over 20 beaches as well as beautiful moorland and lochs.
The ideal place to relax. Very private with a beautiful view over to Mealisval, the highest hill in Lewis.
The village of Mangersta has ten occupied houses, bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The hills, to the east, are close by. The Pod looks out over the village crofts to the highest hill in Lewis, an ever changing view because of the fluctuations of light and weather conditions.
  • This is a lovely pod in a great location. Even in winter it was warm, comfortable and cosy. Tosh is a kind, thoughtful and generous host. I thoroughly recommend it.

  • What a brilliant pod. Big enough for one, or I'm sure two people, with everything you need in a well designed and compact space. The pod was absolutely spotless and so comfortable and welcoming. There was everything you could need for a cosy retreat or a base to visit the stunning scenery of West Lewis. Tosh and Jed have really thought about what people need from a small space to stay and are just so lovely and kind.

  • I don’t even know what to say about this place. I was traveling alone and Tosh was an incredible host. She stood out in the rain for me when I was having trouble finding the place with a flashlight. (If you are traveling at night, Waze is a liar and says you have Arrived early-keep going and the pod is on your right at the bottom Of the hill and there is a sign out front). Anyway the pod is so incredibly comfy with all the things you may need to make a meal and take a nice hot shower. Tosh was always available for questions and to offer tips. Mangersta is an incredible place and part of the island. Not sure if it was because of the time of year I went but it felt like I had that corner of the world to myself most of the time. I was very sad to leave tosh and the pod behind and would definitely come back to stay again.

  • I loved every magical moment. From the cozy pod to the stunning views, it was an amazing adventure. And Tosh just couldn’t make you feel more welcome! She is such a warm, thoughtful hostess. I cannot wait to return.

  • Perfect! Wonderful little 'pod'. It has everything you need and is spotlessly clean. Ideal location for exploring the island. Beautiful beaches, coves and hills to climb if you are so inclined. Very peaceful and ideal if you need a quiet retreat. Tosh and Ged are excellent hosts and extremely welcoming/obliging. We couldn't have wished for more. Thank you!

  • Mangersta is a lovely place, we enjoyed walks along the coastline and in the local area, as well as visiting lots of little museums and historical sites. Tosh and Jed were warm and welcoming and gave us lots of good tips about the area. The pod itself is well equipped and comfortable. Would happily stay here again!

    Rachel2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • A wunderfull place to be! We loved it very much. Tosh is a perfect host. The pod is lovely, fully equipped and very clean! 5 min to walk is one of the most beautiful beaches I ever saw. I highly recommend to stay there for at leaste tree days!

    Dominik2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully warm and welcoming place at the edge of the British Isles. Tosh has made a pod that is worthy of a royal visit, oozing charm and warmth. Still buzzing!

  • We stay for 2 nights at Yellow Shepherd’s Hut at Mangersta Croft Holidays and we loved our stay so much ! The location is outstanding : in the Island of Lewis, the housing is 5 minutes walk from the most beautiful beach where you can admire amazing sun beds. The accommodation is tastefully decorated, small but very well equipped. Elsie and Derek are considerate hosts, warm and discreet at the same time. We enjoyed our stay as well thanks to their welcome. In short, it is a remote place in the world, quiet and peaceful, surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

  • The best Airbnb I’ve stayed in - brilliant house with everything you could need. Fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, amazing (and unique) bathtub, and wood burning stove to keep cosy during blustery Lewis weather. Don’t hesitate to spend as much time as you can here!

    Erin2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay to explore the beautiful island of Harris and Lewis. The cottage was extremely comfortable and very well equipped. Kim and Steve were great hosts and were very quick to answer all our questions including sharing their delicious gluten free cake recipe! Thanks both!

Lots of lovely little thoughtful touches from Kim and Steve, including fresh eggs from their hens, lots of support offered in advance, personal welcome and tips provided. You could not ask for more. • We had a fantastic 5 night stay at the Old Post Office. It was a really comfortable home from home with lots of nice touches. We were made to feel very welcome and it was a great base to explore Lewis and Harris from. The kitchen is really well equipped so perfect for self catering and the whole place was very clean. We’ll definitely be back next time we visit Lewis.

Otter Bothy is a small, self contained cabin right on the banks of West Loch Roag, in the village of Carishader, perfectly situated for wildlife, fishing, walking, cycling, surfing and kayaking. Otter Bothy is situated beside Otter Bunkhouse, but offers private accommodation in a small but very cosy cabin, with spectacular views across West Loch Roag. At only a few metres from the shoreline, there aren't many places as close to the water as this! The minimum stay is two nights.
Otter Bothy has a very comfy double bed, with all linen provided. There are basic cooking facilities, including a two ring hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, pots and pans, and crockery for two. There is also a large shower room, with toilet and sink. The bothy has a decking area with seating outside to enjoy the beautiful views. New for 2020, we now have four sit-on top kayaks for hire, two doubles and two singles.  Prices are £30 a day for double kayaks, and £25 per day for single kayaks.
Uig is a remote, unspoiled part of the island, and has many beautiful beaches and cliffs, lots of wildlife, and is perfect for walking and cycling. The famous Lewis Chessmen, 12th century Viking chess pieces, were found at nearby Ardroil Beach. And the Callanish Stones are within a 20 minute drive of the bunkhouse. There are also boat trips available at Miavaig Pier, which is very close to the bunkhouse. Loch Croistean cafe is about two miles from the bunkhouse, and serves delicious lunches and dinners.
  • Nice and clean. Magnificent view to open the door every morning. Compact but cosy and you won't be disappointed. Stayed in bit cold winter (heavy rains and wind) but summer would be the best. But quiet winter walks are equally interesting...

  • A great place, especially quiet at this time of year (early November). Very cosy but well thought out space with storage boxes beneath the bed and space for your bag as well. A surprisingly spacious shower/toilet and just enough space to cook a basic meal. Loads of lovely landscapes and beaches a short drive away. Even saw an otter swim by about an hour after sunrise. Highly recommended.

  • Beautiful location, great shower, heating was on when we arrived, fire place in the garden and super friendly host. Also, there is a local map with lots of tips from the host which we found very useful.

Our cottage is peacefully located just a few hundred yards from numerous beaches, including Bhaltos - where, in summer, half a dozen small boats are moored, some just off the beach and others safely in the nearby jetty. Our crofter's cottage - built by my grandfather for his family in 1933 - has been sympathetically restored in recent years to provide comfortable accommodation for ourselves and our guests. We do hope you will enjoy spending time in Bhaltos as much as we do!
  • Murdo's place has everything you need and is spotless. We had a very comfortable stay. Murdo was also available late into the night to direct us to the house when we got off track.

  • George's house is in a beautiful location in Lewis, very close to three beautiful beaches, offering the chance to visit the most beautiful places in Lewis. The house is really big, complete with everything you need. We have not had the pleasure of meeting George in person but communication has always been fast and complete. For the Isle of Lewis I definitely recommend this house !!!! Thanks George.

    Agnese2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Mudro's place was fantastic! The house is very spacious, clean, and very comfortable. It has everything that you need for a comfortable stay and the kitchen is really well stocked with all kitchen equipment. Mudro left a load of special Lewis treats such as local smoked salmon, ice-cream, and hand made candles as a gift. I have never stayed in an Air BnB that has put such great effort into showcasing the local area. It was a really great treat and as an Air BnB host, I have definitely learned some new tips in hospitality. The house also showcases some fantastic local Scottish artists which we also really loved. The location on Lewis is also superb! One of the most scenic parts of the island and with the most gorgeous beaches. I would highly recommend Murdo's place.

    Ondine2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful week in spite if very mixed weather. So handy for the beach. The cottage is surprisingly spacious and the kitchen well equipped. Murdo George was great at answering any questions very promptly.

  • Lovely, homely cottage in a fantastic location.

    Catriona2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, clean home. Nice welcome pack and great communication from Murdo. Five minutes down to beach and harbour and two other stunning beaches 5 mins drive away. Loved it!

  • Lovely Croft in a stunning location, peaceful and relaxing, has everything you need. 3 quiet beaches within walking distance, good for wannabe surfers/ kids on boogie boards. Machair at Magerstadh is lush, bursting with orchids. The early drive to Leverburgh for a trip to StKilda is well worth the effort! Community shop and cafe nearby for provisions and treats! Murdo George is a helpful and attentive host. We had a great holiday here in a week of unexpected HOT sunshine😎

    Hilda2018-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly host and gorgeous location. Like paradise. Was very hard to leave the place. Murdo George provided good tips and always responded promptly. The house was clean and tidy and would be big enough for a whole family (We were only two). Murdo George even provided delicious local treats (salmon, biscuits etc.) which are among the best you can find on the islands. Altogether we highly recommend spending the holidays at Murdo George's place!!

Imagine being able to spend time in comfort gazing out over the sea cliffs, with a sumptuous king-size bed, ensuite shower room, Wifi, Freesat TV…then adding your own little kitchen, dining area and outdoor space and placing it in a bespoke pod at the top of the valley above the beach… SEApods are luxurious, ensuite, self-contained, self catering boutique rooms on the cliffs of Aird Uig, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with a vista along the West coast of Lewis.
SEApods provide you with all you could need for a self catering break with a well equipped kitchen, dining area and decking over looking the ocean. Pull out your dining table and raise a glass as you watch the waves and the sea life through your window. There is a great local shop just four miles away, the Edge Cafe in the village, fantastic Community tea rooms down the road, Uig Sands and Loch Croistean Restaurant only a short drive away (check opening times for the time of year you are visiting).
The Isles of Lewis and Harris are incredible islands on the edge. We have beautiful, unspoilt beaches, rugged hills and mountains, a fascinating array of fauna and flora, a rich history, exciting recreation and wonderful culture, not forgetting art, music and crafts including the world famous Harris Tweed. Uig peninsula is one of the most popular destinations on the island due to the wealth of world class beaches, huge expanses of white sand and turquoise seas. Surfers will know of the popularity of Cliff Beach in particular. Aird Uig is a village of two halves: the old crofting village and the former RAF (Royal Air Force) base. The base was constructed in 1954 to cover the North Atlantic gap during the Cold War. The 12 acre domestic camp was situated to the north of Aird Uig village and to the south of Gallan head and included married quarters. The domestic camp accommodation blocks have been converted into housing and incorporated into the village. Gallan Head in now owned by the community trust and visitors can walk out on to the peninsular to enjoy spectacular views.
  • Sarahs pod is brilliant. We spent two nights there and we loved it. So well thought out, and cosy too, and sparkling clean. We loved its remoteness and the Atlantic air. We'd love to come back again one day. A+++

  • Loved our stay in the pod. The views from the deck were awesome! Bed was super comfy and with the heating on the pod was lovely and warm. Plenty of excellent walks near by and a couple of cracking beaches also. The local shop only a couple of miles away is well stocked with all you could need.

  • The Sea pods are the perfect place to stay out on the Isle of Lewis. Set on an idyllic cliff top looking out at the ocean, it is perfect if you are looking for a remote and quiet place. The pod has everything you need for a good nights sleep. Would definitely recommend!

    Kirsty2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The location and views from the pod are absolutely amazing, there's literally nothing in front of you except sea, sea cliffs, and rolling hills. The pod is light, airy, very comfortable and super clean, everything was brand new and nicely done. Communication was very quick and always helpful and friendly. The booklet on the area/island was really helpful and a nice touch. Basically just a really great, enjoyable stay in a lovely place, would happily stay again and highly recommended.

It's also a great base for cycling, surfing, nature and wildlife spotting (from wild flowers to deer, corncrakes, and majestic sea eagles...) kayaking and fishing, and a peaceful and inspirational place for artists and writers.
  • We’ve stayed at many Airbnb’s and this was by far the best accommodation we’ve come across. The location was breathtaking and the amenities on site were of the highest quality. Amazing home entertainment system and jacuzzi tub made it truly a luxurious experience and is one of the only places we would love to come back to again in the future!

    Richard2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a getaway with that extra special something then this is the place. Waking up in the morning to see one of the best views on the island and all the wonderful wildlife is worth the cost without the stunning property.

    Graham2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Gillian’s place is in a stunning location with views to die for. It was surreal waking up in a morning to the fabulous view of the Uig sands with the sunlight across the water. It was so peaceful there and the perfect place to chill out after a days walking. Locally there is lots to see and do in a very scenic area. Gillian was a fantastic host who made us feel very welcome and whose thoughtful extra touches around the place were very appreciated. I can highly recommend this Air B and B !

    Sue2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding location Nice touches throughout the property generous provision of food and charming hosts

    Rajat2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Gillian’s place. The setting is spectacular and the accommodation was equally great, really comfortable, everything you need and lots of space. Gillian was a great host and communication was quick and easy both before our stay and during it too. The views from the apartment were fantastic, looking straight onto the beach, it was lovely place to watch the tide, weather and wildlife. We can’t recommend it enough as a place to stay and would book again in the future.

    Nick2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our three night stay at Gillian's was just magical. What a location! - just so spectacular, and close to many of the important historical places of interest. The hosts are lovely people who are providing accommodation which is exceptionally clean and comfortable - and with a fantastic home entertainment system to go with it. Our only regret was that we hadn't factored a longer stay into our itinerary to take advantage of this special place, in a unique and spectacular part of our planet.

During June, July and August, there is a minimum 7 nights stay Saturday to Saturday. Taigh Solas is a pet friendly, detached, centrally heated, 2 bedroom bungalow on the stunning island of Great Bernera, on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. The property is positioned on our croft and is securely fenced. There are two double bedrooms, with plenty of storage, a comfortable living room and stunning views across Loch Roag. The Iron Age House, Bosta Beach, Callanish Standing stones are all nearby.
Great Bernera is ideal for a peaceful and tranquil get away. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and anyone who loves getting away from the rat race. When the aurora is active, the Northern Lights are seen from most parts of Bernera. Wifi is available in all areas of the property.
Hacklete is a very peaceful village, with stunning views. There is a small jetty just down the road where boats or any watercraft can be launched. The beaches are simply stunning.
  • The house is wonderfully located with a very nice view! There is every comfort. It is an ideal base from which to explore Lewis and Harris whose landscapes, wild and deserted, are breathtaking. Thanks to Michelle for her welcome.

  • Beautiful home in a peaceful setting.

  • We had the most wonderful time staying at Michelle’s cottage. It’s a place that offers everything you need in terms of amenities and its location is perfect to explore the islands, while allowing for privacy and amazing views of the landscape at the same time. Michelle is a lovely, thoughtful person - we got this super nice welcome basket (oh, those eggs from the croft!), very helpful and informative about the area, potential Northern Lights appearance and it’s only because she told us about it, we saw all the falling stars on our first night in Lewis. Grateful for the entire experience and highly recommend the host and the cottage for a home away from home while on holiday in the Outer Hebrides.

  • Taigh Solas is the most wonderful idyllic base in which to explore the beautiful Isles of Great Bernera, Lewis and Harris. The space is cosy and bigger than I expected from the photos. It is very comfortable, clean, well equipped for cooking at home. The views and ever changing scenery from the lounge and kitchen make it extra special. Michelle is a great host and I am already planning when I can return.

Carloway is close to Callanish Standing Stones, Garenin blackhouse village, Dalmore beach. You’ll love the location, free wifi, and peaceful environment. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and one well-behaved pet (additional £20 service fee per stay). We are usually at home when our guests are here, so we can offer extensive local knowledge about our history, culture, where to visit, eat, etc. Read our excellent reviews over the last four years.
Our guests have commented that our place is spacious, and well equipped.
This is a rural location. Whilst there are other houses nearby, facilities such as supermarkets, banks, etc are located in Stornoway which is a half hour drive away.
  • The cottage is roomy, well equipped and ideally located to visit the sites on west Lewis. The best thing is the extensive library of books on Scottish and Western Isles history. Also, a large selection of walking maps.

  • Amazing place. Clean, spacious, everything you could need. Great hosts, very warm and welcoming. Jim gave us a great tour the first day we were on the island, we learned a lot we might not have otherwise.

  • Fantastic stay in Carloway. Jim & Fiona were really helpful when needed but totally respectful of our privacy too. Their local knowledge is phenominal and helped us make the most of our time. Highly recommended

  • Lovely, friendly hosts who were very welcoming and accommodating to our dog, Spring. Responded to our queries very quickly and checked that we were happy. The flat was flawless, so well contained and equipped, so we felt at home during our 7 day stay. Would recommend to all. Carloway was a lovely location, perfect for getting around the island, and close to lots of local attractions.

  • Jim is not just a superhost, he is a spectacular host! His place is perfect, everything you need is there, and so much more. Jim's knowledge of the area, and tips on what to see and do, made sure we got the most out of our short stay. Nothing is too much trouble, and Jim goes out of his way to make sure everything is perfect for you. I highly recommend a stay here, it's truly magical!

    Jo2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was excellent and fantastic. The most beautiful place of our trip.

    Fabian2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is actually more like a cottage attached to the back of Jim and Fiona's house. The cottage itself was spotless with great layout and space. An incredible local library caters for all interests and Jim offers a tour around the local area - you should definitely take this up. We felt it was a highlight of our whole trip and really gave us an insight into local life now and local history, tying together much of what we had seen on our trip with the insight of a local. The location is fabulous with so much on your doorstep, including beaches, walks and the Callanish Stones. Most of the rest of Lewis is little more than an hour away at its furthest and Jim can offer wonderful recommendations for all locations. Our stay was perfect and offered a much needed 4 day bolt hole on our trip around the Hebrides.

Gleannan is a fantastic base for those with a passion for the outdoors. It is well located for surfing, body boarding, sea kayaking, boating, scuba diving, rock climbing, water skiing, fishing (sea, salmon, trout), cycling, running, and of course excellent coastal and hill walking. The cottage has a lovely homely feel to it with a comfortable lounge for watching local wildlife from the window. If you are very lucky you may see eagles - golden and white tailed! Binoculars are a good idea too!
Gleannan is Gaelic for 'of the glen'. The cottage is a traditional style croft house built in 1953 and renovated in 2012 so you are sure to get a real feel for life on Lewis. It's a big part of the reason we love it. The lounge benefits from an open fire which really creates a fantastic atmosphere in the evenings. There is a large collection of surfing, triathlon, rock climbing and cycling magazines to inspire you! Our small library has fiction and non fiction books and reference material you may find interesting during your stay. The kitchen is a great size for 6 and has a washing machine, large indoor pulley for drying and a full size dishwasher. We wanted to offer guests the flexibility of sleeping 7 with doubles or 5 with singles. To accommodate that, the 3rd bed in the Twin bedroom is a folding adult bed with a sprung mattress to provide a comfortable sleep and regular use. We don't want you to have any surprises when you arrive so please make sure you check out the photo's which let you see each room - comments add useful information too. That way you will have a clear idea of what to expect. Other inspirational pictures give you an insight into holidaying on the island. Free High Speed Wifi & Internet throughout the cottage.
  • Gleannan is a super, cosy, clean & well equipped holiday home & ideal as a base to visit the many super beaches, historical sites, galleries, potteries, restaurants etc. on Lewis & Harris. Dave our host was quick to reply to any queries & left clear instructions for access, WiFi, heating etc. We stayed for two weeks & loved it as did our dog. Lovely bench in garden where you can sit & just look at the beautiful view. We didn’t want to leave & hope to be back next year.

  • Visited for one week in August. What a wonderful island so much adventure for a family holiday. Dave is a great host with lots of local advice on where to go and nice little touches such as so some local biscuits on arrival. Very homely space made us feel like we were at home straight away. Best air BnB we have stayed in by far.

  • Absolutely fantastic cottage, we’re a family of 4 with a dog and had loads of space. It was sparkling clean and equipped with everything we needed. It was such a good location to see the Isle of Lewis and Harris nothing was too far away. Dalmore beach was fantastic and less than 10 mins from the house so going there of an evening to watch the sun set and the wildlife was amazing! I saw a minke whale feeding for nearly 2 hours and a sea eagle fly right over the cottage. Dave was fantastic with his local tips and all his advice. I highly recommend staying here. Thanks Dave we will definitely be back!

The Wooden House overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and its rugged coastline. Set at the foot of Mealisvil, the highest mountain on Lewis, it has stunning panoramic views including St Kilda on clear days. Deer graze daily on the croft and are often a few feet away from the house. Nicole welcomes you to this beautiful and tranquil location. Guests can enjoy the entire ground floor, including bedroom, living room, kitchen and superb sun room. You will have complete privacy being the only occupants.
The upstairs is private for owners use only but your hosts will not be present during your stay. The living space has everything you need from usual kitchen utensils, microwave, oven/hob, dishwasher, toaster, pots/pans, kettle, TV, DVD plus dvds, wifi, washing machine, freezer and hair dryer. It is an ideal location for a romantic break.
Fantastic walks along the coast or in the hills. Beaches to die for within walking distance or a short drive. Uig sands where the infamous chessmen were found is a short drive away. Village shop, fuel, community centre, cafe and museum are a 20 min drive away. Stornoway is 1 hour drive. A small number of the chess pieces are on display at Lews Castle museum (free) which is well worth a visit but check opening days and times before going. A new restaurant has recently opened (Uig Sands) which has its own website. This is approx 25 min drive away. The Crown Hotel and Digby Chicks are restaurants in Stornoway which are extremely popular but I recommend you book in advance if you intend to go there in the evening.
  • Cosy house in a beautiful remote location, looking out to the Atlantic. Great beaches only a short drive away. Friendly helpful host.

  • Exceptional view in this hyper-cozy wooden house. To recommend !

    Benoit2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • The house is a haven of peace with an exceptional view. The cottage is very clean and comfortable. The deer in the garden came to visit us. To recommend without hesitation

    Sarah2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation of Nicole is uniquely beautiful in the west of the island of Lewis. The house is very cozy and stylish and offers everything you need. The view of the Atlantic Ocean is sensational in any weather! Within walking distance (10 minutes) is a small sandy beach, to the stunning beaches of Uig, Valtos and Reef it is by car 20 or 30 minutes. When booking the ferry crossings you should take into account that the streets are narrow and you accordingly slowly progressing: We have to Tarbert about 2 hours needed (Stornoway is probably a bit faster). Altogether absolutely recommendable!

    Franziska2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nicole and her husband met us when we arrived and showed us how everything worked. They were so friendly and welcoming. We absolutely loved the wooden house. We could see the Atlantic Ocean at the bottom of the garden and deer too. The house was incredibly cosy and well insulated. You couldn’t tell how windy it was outside at all! The WiFi was much better than expected and everything was incredibly clean and well maintained. The house is “quirky” as Nicole explained but very easy to learn its ways. We enjoyed using our German language skills for the washing machine :-)

    Anthea2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful space located in a beautiful spot. We regularly had rabbit, deer and sheep grazing in front of us. Our boys were delighted! As this is the host’s home it is very well appointed. Lots of cookware and we so enjoyed dining in the sunroom. The wooden house is very unique to this part of the world and is much like a log home in the states. It felt very homey. If you turn right out of the drive there is a beautiful white sand beach 10 minutes walk away and complete with grazing Highland cattle! The stacks are a short drive away. Further afield are the Callanish Stones (50 minutes) and Stornoway (1 hour 15 minutes). The house is almost at the end of the road and is remote. The vast majority of the roads on this part of the island are single track, so that should be taken into consideration when booking ferry travel. It took us an hour to get to Stornoway on our departure day because we’d booked the 7 am ferry and didn’t meet a single car on the road to give way to! Nicole and her husband were very welcoming and previously ran the house and a B&B, so they are accustomed to interacting with guests and were very responsive to my messages sent through the app. If you are looking for lovely accommodation in a beautiful and remote setting...this is it!

    Shelby2019-07-08T00:00:00Z

  • Friendly and helpful host. Beautiful place to stay. We really enjoyed our walk up the highest peak on Lewis straight from the house, and loved having our meals looking out over the Atlantic with deer and geese in the field. Would thoroughly recommend Nicole's place.

We are only a short walk to the beach. This is our family home and we (Dickon and Elly) live here with our 3 young children. This is a listing for a large double bedroom with king size bed. The room has its own separate bathroom with good pressure mains shower over the bath. This is our full time family home where we live with our three children so be prepared it's a busy household. Our house is situated in Uig on the Isle of Lewis overlooking Uig Sands. It is a short walk down to the beach. The room has a beautiful view of the mountains.
Uig is a very special place. There are endless walks, beaches and hills to explore. The famous Lewis Chessmen were found on the sands below our house. It is a very peaceful place. Plenty of golden eagles, sea eagles, otters, fish, deer and plenty of other nature to enjoy. We are a short walk (1/2mile) from an excellent shop and post office.
  • All is so perfect and friendly. Thank you

    Elise2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Elly and the family did a great job of making me feel welcome in their spare room, with so little ceremony that I really felt like a guest of friends, rather than like a customer! The children and spaniel were delightful too. I slept in a very comfortable bed, with a bathroom next door, and a good and powerful shower; something I appreciate! This is a superb location with glorious views in every direction. When the tide is out, there's a great circular walk incorporating the beach below the house, and lots of other places of local interest within easy driving distance. The village store up the road is well-stocked for normal provisions. Note that there aren't many places for food nearby, so you need to be prepared for that. Elly and her husband run a fabulous-looking restaurant just around the corner, but it was closed when I was there over the New Year holiday. I would love to come back when it was open; the combination of breakfast at the house, picnics from the store, and restaurant for dinner would be a very good one, I think! This was only my second AirBnB stay; the first one being in San Francisco soon after it started. So I really wasn't sure what to expect on the far side of the world, but I had a delightful stay which was just what I needed, and would love to come back again one day!

  • Thank you for a great stay. Lovely comfortable bed, great hospitality, great breakfast selection and lovely, welcoming family, living in the most beautiful place.

  • Loved it here! Very funny kids and super relaxed parents. We have stayed in their family home right by the sea. They made a huge effort to make us feel at home and show us around during our very short stay! I will definitely recommend to stay here if you want a glimpse of what life is like on the Island. 👍🏼

    Paulina2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely room, comfy bed. Great breakfast, a nice welcoming family.

    Hanna2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Keeper's Lodge. Elly and her family were very welcoming and we felt comfortable in their home. The house is warm and inviting, the bedroom is a lovely large room with a very comfortable bed, and guests have the sole use of a bathroom right outside the bedroom. There were breakfast items left out for us each morning which was a good start to our days. If you have the opportunity, we recommend booking a meal in their restaurant Uig Sands which is very close by, some of the best seafood we've ever had, and great views across the bay. There are some of the most beautiful walks nearby, and the stars at night are so clear. We highly recommend the Keeper's Lodge, and would definitely stay again.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Eloise’s beautiful home in Uig Sands. I was so amazed by the beauty of the area that I decided spur-of-the-moment to see if I could find a place. I lucked out! Not only do they run one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to (be sure to make a reservation), the house is charming and the setting with beach views just spectacular. Their kids & dog were very sweet. It was quiet, got a great sleep, nice clean bathrooom with everything you need, access to full kitchen, had a lovely walk toward the sand beaches. This location is very remote and you need a car to get there, but it’s a true gem worth seeking out. Delightful!

    Kristin2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Elly’s house with a stunning view to paradise and were welcomed by a lovely family for our two days stay! We will return for sure!

  • Great place to stay, fabulous views, lovely little beach, everything we needed.

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Valtos Cottage and would definitely recommend to others! The water views were incredible (much better than in the pictures) and the open plan living/ dining/ kitchen was such a lovely place to cook, eat and relax after days exploring Lewis and Harris. Everything we needed for cooking was available and the beds, showers and amenities were all excellent. There is also a steam shower and sauna. The local area was beautiful too- there were two stunning beaches right around the corner and the you can pick up fresh mussels, oysters and scallops from the nearby Scallop Shack. Thank you very much for having us Tod and Heather, we hope to visit again one day :)

  • An incredible 3 -night stay at A' Bhuail' a Tuath. Cathy and Murdo were very generous and accomodating hosts. As authentic as it gets - Cathy is a Gaelic teacher who has been living in Lewis for almost all of her life, as a result, she is a very knowledgable host who can teach you the beautiful language of Gàidhlig!. The suite is a neat, Hebridean styled suite that was exceptionally spacious and clean for its price. Any problems swiftly dealt with beyond any expectations. Tapadh leibh, Cathy and Murdo!

    Hon2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't have wished for a nicer place to stay in Lewis. It is very tastefully decorated and extremely clean. The number of nice touches is testament to the care and thought that Cathy has put into creating the perfect place to stay in Lewis. I loved it! When I return to Lewis for another visit my first choice will be A' Bhuail' a Tuath. Thanks Cathy!!

    Rob2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy was a lovely host. Her accommodation has all you need and was roomy and comfortable. It has easy access for the interesting places you would want to visit on the west coast. There is a lovely hotel half a mile away for evening meals. Will definitely keep this one on my favourites list.

    Moira2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A truly lovely place to stay!

    Sue2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • My two friends and I, we really enjoyed our stay at Cathys house! She‘s a very kind host and the accomodation is a nice and tidy flat. Also the communication worked quickly and fluently.

    Simone2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • This property, although a bit out of the way (you need a car) was perfect for our 3 nights on the Isle of Lewis. Cathy is knowledgeable about local history and happy to discuss the Isle with you, without being intrusive. The sitting room, en suite and bedroom gave us a lovely space to relax. We didn’t like the double bed being against the wall but you could really move it if you want. Cathy provides many, many personal touches which we really appreciated. Thank you for a lovely stay Cathy 😊

    Pamela2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy and her family (and cats!) were a delight. They went to a lot of trouble to make us feel at home. I mean, really really at home. Little things, like offering up a pair of binoculars, and big things, like offering to do our dishes and laundry. It was much more than I expected from an AirBNB, and very, very kind. The island of Lewis is also lovely a lovely place - I would recommend going up to the Butt of Lewis if you have time, it's a highlight. I wish I could have spent weeks there instead of only a few days.

    Jesse2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great and impeccable accommodation. Big room, nice bathroom. In the living room, we could warm food in the microwave or prepare tea and coffee. Murdo and Cathy asked us fresh water every day. Our used dishes were collected and washed every morning by our guests. Our stay was pleasant. Great location to visit the beautiful sites of northern Lewis Island: Garenin blackhouses, Arnol, Doune's broch, the beautiful Dalmore beach (surf), and further north, Port of Ness, the lighthouse from Butt of Lewis and Eoropia Beach. Take your time! Everything is beautiful!

Shoreside sits in a lovely quiet garden beside Loch Ròg Beag. Watch the tide come and go, fish jumping and all sorts of birds on the loch. Golden and sea eagles and otters visit occasionally. The house has an interesting decor reflecting my other occupation as an artist. Shoreside is 25 miles from Stornoway, 10 miles from Callanish and 8 miles from the beautiful beaches of Uig. Some of the best cafes and restaurants in Lewis are nearby. I am a Gaelic speaker and can tell you about the area.
Shoreside is unique in its beautiful private location. Ideal for birdwatchers, hillwalkers or kayakers and within easy reach of beaches, cafes, museum, post office and shop.
Gisla is a tiny village of just five houses. Uig has many of these small, scattered townships between rocky mountains, peat bog, loch and beautiful shorelines. Uig maintains many of its traditional characteristics including the Gaelic language, Sunday observance and a maritime connection that goes back hundreds of years. Many of the place names here came from the Norse language of the Vikings including ‘Uig’ which means bay. Uig is a pristine environment, with this in mind I only use environmentally friendly products to launder and clean.
  • If you are looking for a special place with a special host on a beautiful island, don’t look any further. Rupa will give you insight about the surroundings and more importantly, about yourself.

  • A very enjoyable stay in a lovely location. Rupa is very hospitable and very knowledgeable about the area, local history and the Gaelic language, lots of tips to help enjoy. Also a great place for those interested in art, highly recommended

  • It was really a pleasure for me staying at Rupa place. She is a very nice person, very helpful and lovable, she makes you feel like home. It's a very quiet place with a wonderful view from the bedroom.

  • Rupa is a very welcoming and considerate host. The situation is lovely, on the lakeside, and there are many interesting books and artworks.

    Chris2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Rupa’s was wonderful - such a lovely home, great location and a sanctuary! Rupa is amazing - so thoughtful, knowledgeable and caring. I look forward to a return visit in the near future.

    Christine2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • To go to Shoreside is to make a real trip, to leave one's habits and to immerse oneself in these very particular landscapes of the island of Lewis. It is giving up all the illusion of discovering this island in 2 days and accepting to take the time, simply the time to live. A truly original place, ideal for nature lovers and those fleeing organized holidays. But it's mostly the experience of meeting Rupa. Discretion, hospitality, friendliness, perfect availability. Rupa is an artist and lives a little bohemian way, which makes all the charm of this small house, to advise absolutely to the amateurs of formatted accommodations. In the evening, we warm up with a peat fire. Rupa is really on the lookout for her guests, transmitting her passion for the Gaelic language. Very patient also with our failing English who made great progress in contact with her, because she speaks very clearly and at a pace understandable for Frenchies. We loved this room overlooking the Loch, misted in the morning, then a changing sky at any time. The garden is a nice place to read or write (except at times when, as everywhere in Scotland, it is the kingdom of the midges ...) No problem for the spaces to share, such as the bathroom. Everyone lives his life independently in this house, including the dog "Keistle" who is a pleasant companion (who does not bark, even in Scottish). Rupa gave us a lot of very useful information on walks or hikes to do on the island. Ask her, for example, to tell you about "Bothy", a place that evokes, on a rainy day, the adventures of Tintin on the black island, absolutely impossible to find without the path she draws through the moors and rocks . Precious indications also on the history of this island, which did not know that happy days. These 11 days spent in Shoreside were the best part of our stay in Scotland. Yes, really, we wanted to remain and we were so sad when we had to leave our home. Pierre and Bénédicte (60 and 65 years old), Brussels.

  • Rupa is a really lovely person who makes your stay extraordinarily beautiful. Her house is the perfect place to calm down, enjoy the breeze and the nature and thanks to her tips, see the wonderful areas of the Outer Hebrides!

  • Waking up to that view & the waves crashing is incredible. Julie & David were very easy going and made us immediately feel welcome. They gave us great advice on walks & places to eat around the area. The bothy itself was so cosy with everything you could ever need. The welcome pack which was much appreciated & even included fresh scallops caught that morning by David himself! Thanks again & All the best to you both

  • Thanks so much for an amazing stay at the beach Bothy .. can’t speak highly enough of it, from the view , to the super comfy bed to the thoughtful touches like goodies on arrival and fresh flowers ! An absolutely stunning spot , highly recommended

  • Beyond our expectations! This bothy was fantastic, exquisite view, beautiful little beach (essentially your own private beach), superb walks close by. The scallops from the Scallop Shack were delicious. The kitchen had everything we needed including two hob rings which we hadn’t realised. And dog friendly! We would love to come back again soon and we were sad to leave!

    Amy2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the beach bothie. The location was superb with spectacular views of the white sands and turquoise sea which is on your doorstep. The hosts Julie & David were fantastic and always on hand with good local tips. The scallop shake has the most delicious fresh scallops and are a must have during your visit. We can’t wait to come back and visit again and hopefully for longer next time.

    Rebecca & Alex2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning little bothy. We stayed as part of our honeymoon to the Hebrides, and this place was really special. Hosts were brilliant. The place was spotless and extremely cosy. We had everything we could ever need. There were so many personal little touches. We think the highlight of our honeymoon is kayaking around the beaches and to the island opposite, sunbathing for the rest of the day before a couple of drinks back on the balcony in the evening. It was perfect and we’ll never forget it. We hope to be back in the future!

    Dominique2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed in the bothies for two nights on a road trip through the highlands/ outer Hebrides and it was delightful. Kneep is about an hour from Stornoway so make sure you have what you need before you set off but once you’re there you’ll never want to leave! The bothie has everything you need for self catering and Julie supplies you with some of the necessities (milk, tea, salt and pepper etc...). It’s a beautiful location and very peaceful, highly recommend.

    Annabelle2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly fantastic place. You have the beach to yourself. It is impossible to describe the view with words. White sands, turquoise waters: all to you. Serene atmosphere, lots of beautiful walks, the pod is great: brand new, very very well equipped and lots of great attentions (usb plugs with every power plugs - great for international travellers :)). We went to the scallops shack to buy some fresh ones for lunch...delicious!

A comfortable self contained apartment on the ground floor of our croft house with spectacular views across the sea to the island of Great Bernera and beyond, to the hills of Harris and Uig. Ceann Bodaich is a good base from which to explore the the moors, hills and lochs of this island, and the nearby archaeological sites.
Ceann Bodaich is suitable for couples of any age. The apartment, with it's own front door, has underfloor heating and a peat burning stove. You will have your own book lined sitting room, double bedroom, shower room and kitchen. If it is not too warm the stove will be lit and ready for you when you arrive. You can use our super fast broadband. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker and microwave, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. (We have a laundry room in the main house if it is too wet or windy to hang your washing outside.)
A short walk will take you to the shore where there are tidal lagoons, rocky and sandy beaches and coastal wildlife. We have otters, seals, and occasionally whales and dolphins in our seas. There are buzzards and ravens nesting nearby and Golden and Sea Eagles are often to be seen in the skies above us. At the other end of the croft you will find the village loch with it’s own islands and wildlife; there are waterfowl and herons to watch and in the Autumn the swans arrive. Tolsta Chaolais is is often called the prettiest village in Lewis and there are many delightful routes to explore on foot. The landscape is characterised by beautiful outcrops of rock amid the wild flowers and rushing streams. The Doune Braes Hotel is a mile and a half away by village road and moorland track and serves food all year. We are less than 5 miles from the Calanais Standing Stones, the Broch at Dun Carloway and the Garenin Blackhouse village. Half an hour’s drive from Stornoway and an hour from the hills of Harris, the magnificent beaches of Uig, and the Butt of Lewis. If you give us some notice we can usually arrange a boat mooring for you

  • It’s a very quiet, very cosy and friendly place. The living room is just great, we enjoyed the stove with the peat fire on a cold evening. The breakfast is outstanding, it’s more a giant gourmet meal with local products than a breakfast! Also we enjoyed the possibility to buy the products of the crofting for creating our own meals (eggs, selfmade bread, selfmade jams). The area is just loveley and a lots of animals are living here. Alison and her husband are loveley, helpful people. We felt like home here. Thank you for everything!

    Marianne2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Ali and Sandy’s apartment was such a highlight of our trip to the Outer Hebrides. The apartment is beautiful with views out over the rolling countryside and the sea. It has everything you need for a truly wonderful stay - the bed is super comfy and the kitchen has everything you need to cook yourself. Their hospitality was wonderful and we were lucky enough to meet some of the other local residents over drinks and croft produce on our last night. The horses and collies are an added highlight - we loved meeting them. Thank you for a very special stay.

    Claire2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Alison's place was perfect for our stay. Great hospitality with a thorough introduction to all of the facilities and local area as well as a tray of tea and yummy cake! Very quiet and secluded. We loved meeting the dogs, too.

Carloway, Isle of Lewis, United Kingdom

Viewforth is a detached, former croft cottage built in 1912. The house overlooks the area where Carloway River flows out into Carloway Loch and is surrounded by green slopes dotted with sheep. On a sunny day or at sunset it is very difficult to drag yourself away from the windows at the front of the house watching the light change the view. The house has a fully enclosed (cocker spaniel proof) back garden and the garden at the front has beautiful views across the loch.
You enter the house through a porch at the front with space for outdoor clothes and shoes. The hallway leads to the living room to the left and separate dining room to the right. Both rooms are filled with light and are cosy. The living room has two recliner leather sofas, a tv with free view channels and a range of books and maps for you to use during your stay. The dining room has a large wooden table with seating for six. The kitchen is reached through the living room and runs along the back of the house. It has loads of cupboard space and is well equipped for cooking during your stay. There is a cooker with electric hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer, tumble drier and microwave. The compact bathroom is between the living room and kitchen under the stairs. It is currently being replaced and will have a mains shower. Photo to follow when it is finished. Upstairs there is a twin bedded room and a spacious master bedroom with a king size bed. Both bedrooms have large fitted wardrobes with plenty of storage space, enough even for those who don’t like to travel light! A travel cot is available if needed. The house is heated by oil fired central heating and is very cosy. At present there is no wi-fi in the house but there is a very strong mobile signal and 4G at the house and surrounding area.
Viewforth is in an area of the Isle of Lewis called Carloway. The house is situated close to the road leading to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. It is a drive of less than 5 minutes and is described as a “living museum” for visitors showing life in a traditional Scottish blackhouse. A less than 15 minute drive will take you to the Callanish Standing Stones. Three routes take you from Carloway to the main town of Stornoway, all of which are very scenic and let you see different parts of the island. There are two beaches within a 5 minute drive of the house. Dalmore is the closest and biggest. Dalbeg is a wee bit further along the road and it also offers the chance to walk the croft that surrounds the beach. Both beaches are sandy and often have waves rolling in from the Atlantic. They are both signposted on the main road out towards Bragar. Viewforth is in a brilliant position for exploring the whole of the Island because it is well connected by road. Ness in the north of the island is about 25 miles away and the area of Uig is a 30 minute drive away with the reward of a stunning beach at the end. The areas beyond Stornoway are well worth a visit too. Tarbert, the main village in Harris can be easily reached in just over an hour by road and it is a very scenic drive.

    Amanda2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary's home is cosy and comfortable and in a lovely location. Carloway is great for exploring other areas of the island. We also enjoyed taking walks in the mornings and evenings down to the pier or up to Borrowston. Hilary was a very helpful host and responded promptly to any queries that we had. Thank you for having us!

Three bed roomed detached house situated yards from the shore of Loch Carloway (Sea loch). The property has recently been refurbished with a new kitchen, bathroom, new wooden flooring and carpets throughout. It is in the perfect position on the West Coast of the Island to visit such historical sites as the Callanish Standing Stones and the Carloway Broch. There are fishing rods for use, beach furniture and numerous children's toys kept in the detached garage. Wi Fi is also available
There are fishing rods for use, beach furniture and numerous children's toys kept in the detached garage. Wi Fi is also available
There is no shop or petrol station in Carloway. The closest are either at Barvas or Cameron Terrace/Leurbost where you can get a good selection of food, wines and spirits and both have petrol/diesel. They also carry a diverse range of other goods – from midge repellent and fishing gear to surf equipment (Barvas). In Stornoway there are two supermarkets – Tesco near the ferry terminal and the Coop on the way out of town toward the west side. There are fishing rods for use, beach furniture and numerous children's toys kept in the detached garage. Wi Fi is also available. The Doune Braes Hotel provides meals (best to book) and takeaway food. It has a bar and lounge. Forty North (Bragar) does the same but you need to pre-order takeaway and collect. Menus for both Doune Braes and Forty North are in the folder but may be subject to change. There is of course a wide selection of restaurants in Stornoway - An Lanntair has a top class chef in Kenny Mackay and Digby Chick is recommended. Don’t go past Cameron’s fish and chip shop without sampling!
  • An amazing place to relax and adventure from while on the Isle of Lewis. The hosts, Mairi and Kenneth make you feel right at home with lovely touches of welcome. We enjoyed the quietness of its location and the views. Highly recommend this comfortable home for your Hebrides travels.

  • A dream place and kindest hosts. Would come back in a whiff if possible.

    Elke2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Of all the places I’ve stayed in Scotland, Lithir is my favorite. The house is lovely and very comfortable. There are beautiful views from every window and ever possible amenity a person could need. Kenneth and Mairi shared lots of helpful information before and during our visit. Mairi also invited us to a pop-up community cafe during our visit that had the best food and a cheerful atmosphere. The location makes visiting a wide variety of sights on Lewis quick and easy, and the house is located on a quite road that is pleasant for walks along the Loch. I would absolutely recommend Lithir to anyone visiting the Isle of Lewis.

  • Wonderful house in the perfect location. 40 minutes drive from Stornoway on good roads. Very central for touring round. Nice welcoming touches. Mairi was a very caring host. Through the back gate and turn right there’s an honesty shed with fresh eggs, freshly grown vegetables and delicious home-made cakes.

    Doris2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time in Harris and Lewis and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. The house was lovely and cosy and had everything you needed. Perfect location right on the water and it was an ideal base from which to explore the island. Kenneth and Mairi were great hosts, very warm and welcoming and communication was swift and easy. Absolutely loved Harris and Lewis - we’ll definitely return and when we do, we know exactly where to stay!

    Rebecca2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • A warm house and great welcome in a beautiful place. Kitchen was very well stocked which made us feel at home straightaway. Useful information provided about places to visit. Recommend Blackhouses, Callanish Stones and the community bazaar for secondhand books and nearby beaches - whatever the weather!

    David2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful location next to the loch surrounded by wildflowers and the sound of birds and insects. Very convenient for exploring Lewis, but quietly situated so the best of both worlds. Lovely welcome from Mairi and excellent directions from Kenny. We didn't want to leave!

  • A very cozy house in an incredible area 😊 I don't wanted to leave!

  • The Bunkhouse is nice and clean with beautiful view on the sea. I liked kitchen there with lot of plates and everything you need for cooking. You can find also some games and books there and enjoy them on comfortable sofas. Isle of Lewis is beautiful and if I will come back I would stay here again.

    Natália2020-01-30T00:00:00Z

  • The bunkhouse is a wonderful place to stay - very homey and a gorgeous place to chill and read a book in the evening after using the copious cooking facilities for dinner. Donald was an excellent host with advice for activities and some great local tales as well as showing 2 other guests how to prepare and cook fresh lobster! Very comfy beds - overall much bette than camping in 40mph winds!

Cottage commands a picturesque setting with spectacular Atlantic sea views. The cottage is reached by crossing a footbridge over Tob Bhalasaigh (Valasay Bay / Cove). Tob Bhalasaigh is designated as a priority site of special scientific interest as a sheltered lagoon with a rare mixture of seaweeds only found in this unusual mix of salt and fresh water. Otters and seals are frequently seen, both in the Tob and along the seashore.
Valasay cottage is owned by Kenneth and Carol MacLeod who offer you a mix of relaxation and the opportunity to explore the surrounding beauty at your own pace. The cottage is two-bedroom with a sitting room, large new kitchen (fitted 2016), new bathroom (also fitted 2016) and extensive outdoor area with easy access to the surrounding area. Valasay Cottage is a well-equipped home from home with modern appliances, comfortable new beds and new bedroom and living room furniture for relaxing after a day of activity. The living room hosts a multi-fuel stove to sit beside and watch nature outside large patio doors. Valasay Cottage is provided with Freeview TV service (although we are certain you will not need it!) and heating throughout. Fishing rods are provided should you wish to catch your own dinner, however if you are not fortunate enough Breaclete has a well-stocked village store and there are timetabled mobile services such as butchers van, grocery van and fish van. There is also a bus service daily to Stornoway (with the exception of Sundays).

  • Kenny’s place is a beautiful getaway practically on its own wee island within the island. The property itself is clean, cosy and has everything you need, the people in the area are lovely (sadly we missed the Hogmany party as decided to go see the amazing display of stars and Milky Way over Callanish) and there are some great spots nearby to visit. Kenny was also great to deal with, a fantastic host and we would love to return. Being dog friendly was an added bonus. Thanks again Kenny, and if anyone is thinking of booking, go for it, you’ll love it as a base.

    Drea2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for exploring Harris and Lewis

    Janet MacLaren2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a very special spot - beautifully remote and cosy. We loved walking over the bridge to come home after a big walk and feeling surrounded by nature. There are good walks (long and short) straight out of the cottage, and Bosta beach is beautiful and only about 10 mins drive away. Kenny’s communication was great throughout, with a very comprehensive welcome/info pack. We really benefited from the maps and leaflets about Lewis & Harris left in the cottage, so we could explore. If you’re into watching whales or dolphins, really recommend a visit to Tiumpan Head while you’re there. Hope to come back!

    Sophie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and 2 friends spent a few nights at the cottage - after arriving in the dark due to a cancelled ferry we woke up the next day to blue sky's and stunning veiws from the sitting room. The house has room to spare with all the basics you need available in the kitchen including fresh milk for tea. The hike out past the front door to the nearby beach is well worth the hour or more ramble with gorgeous views the entire way. Though the weather was a little chilly to use the outdoor seating the surrounding garden was lovely. The bridge to the cottage was pretty picturesque and very manageable even laden down with many bags and heavy winds ha.

    Zoe2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Kenny's house. The location was absolutely fantastic, and we loved the secluded location, but with easy access by car to the local shop/café, and all the walking on the island. The only slight negative was that we found the mattress on the main bed to be lacking in padding, meaning that we could feel all the wires and springs in the mattress. Maybe a good idea to take your own mattress topper, or ask Kenny if he can supply one. Other than this one small issue, we had an absolutely fantastic week.

    Duncan2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Valasay Cottage is in a really special spot and we had a great few days exploring Lewis and Harris. The cottage itself is well equipped, with everything you might need for your stay, including bed linen and plenty huge towels for a cosy bath after a day walking. Although we had a couple of days' good weather, which allowed us an amazing day at Bosta Beach, when it turned a bit soggy there was plenty in the cottage to keep us and the kids (seven and five) occupied. My only complaint is that there is so much to see and do that we'll have to go back! But for now, I have great memories of sipping coffee in the lovely wild garden, listening to the water rush under the footbridge and the birds around the Tob.

    Louise2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week in the cozy tastefully decorated house. The location is fantastic- very quiet and nice location and yet easily accessible. especially the kitchen with the view into the garden we liked. The communication with Kenny was friendly and reliable. Thanks for the nice days on the Isle of Lewis!

  • We had a wonderful stay. Sarah could not have been more hospitable and kind to us. She gave great tips of places to visit in the area and it was lovely to chat with her. The space was very clean and had thoughtful touches. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent. Best mussels I have ever had. Beautiful view from our window. Highly recommended.

  • Our stay at Seacroft was incredible. Sarah was very attentive to every detail including, I noticed, making sure to greet everyone by name. We had a couple of requests about our menu choices relating to Gluten free options and Sarah magically made it happen ;-) I will definitely be back to Harris and my choice for accommodation, if its available, will be Seacroft. Thank you Sarah for making our stay extremely enjoyable.

  • Cosy, warm, welcoming and comfortable, thank you Christine! We only had time to stay one night. Christine's cottage was perfectly located for all the sites we wished to visit on our trip to Lewis. Wished we could have stayed longer:)

    Lesley2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start - Christine’s place is a real gem. We stayed for two nights but wish it could have been for longer, it was the perfect base for our time on Lewis. The location is ideal for exploring the area and Christine gave us lots of tips on things to do and see which helped us make the most of our time there. The place is brilliantly equipped with lots of really homely touches - plenty of towels, everything you could need in the kitchen (egg cups included!), jigsaws, books, dvds, the works. The bathroom also needs special mention for the best Airbnb shower we have ever experienced! We will definitely stay again if we’re lucky enough to return to Lewis.

  • We had an excellent stay in the pod. We did not know what to expect, having never stayed in a pod before but it was brilliant. The view was absolutely incredible and we could lie in bed watching the sky and dramatic coastline. The pod was cosy, extremely clean, full of useful amenities like quick boiling kettle, heated towel rail, lovely big comfortable bed complete with warm Harris Tweed blanket, kitchen facilities, welcome snacks, TV and nice little touches. Sarah was a wonderful, thoughtful and knowledgable host. The food in the restaurant was delicious - the giant scallops were a favourite!

    Amy2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for a couple of nights in The Seapod, amazing views and such a comfy bed. We saw a few seals in the bay below and had lovely walks on the huge beach nearby. Great breakfasts and dinner at the Seacroft. Sarah was a really good host and we would thoroughly recommend this lovely Pod.

  • Amazing little pod perched at the side of a cliff with stunning views - ideal for a cosy and romantic break. Sarah was a brilliant host and not only booked us in for dinner at the guesthouse the night of our arrival (when we ate freshly hand-dives scallops from earlier in the day!) and provided breakfast for us inside our pod - she also gave us lots of local tips on nearby walks. We wish we could have stayed longer and will be reminiscing about our trip for a while to come.

    Meltem2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • The pods are quite something... The place and surroundings are spectacular and special. The old RAF base has a unique feel and while being in the middle of no-where you get a genuine connection with nature and the village. The pods are very comfortable and Sarah is an amazing host. Would recommend on the highest regards.

  • Stunning views from the pod and it was amazing to be able to hear nothing but the crashing waves below at night. Pod was cosy and equipped with everything that we needed. We stayed for dinner and the Scottish breakfast the following morning was super! A lovely retreat!

  • These pods are beautifully presented with lovely, extra, homely touches. Bed is super comfortable and kitchen is well equipped for such a small space. Our stay was right in the middle of Storm Dennis doing his thing! The wind howled, the rain lashed, the hail pelted and, though it creaked a lot, we stayed safe and cosy inside Breeze. Sarah's communication was excellent and, though we didn't need anything, I am sure she would be right on hand if you did. The location is stunning, right on the cliff top, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a lovely pebble bay. We enjoyed watching the seals playing, surfing the rollers - priceless - and 3 stag on the moor, on our way home. Thank you Sarah.

  • This is one of the best places we have ever stayed. Having your morning coffee watching the sun come up over the cliffs was just amazing. Cosy pod with breathtaking views. Sarah was a great host and the place was sparklingly clean. The kitchen is small but well equipped and the shop nearby has everything that you would need. Very dog friendly too. The only issue was that being there in winter means that the nearby restaurants are closed for the season but we were happy to make use of the facilities. We will be back!

We will provide you with a continental breakfast hamper or you can wander down the hill to have a full cooked breakfast at SEAcroft. Your kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, hob, kettle, toaster and all the cutlery, crockery & utensils you need. Pull out your dining table and raise a glass as you watch the waves and the sea life through your window.
  • The view from Breeze was absolutely outstanding. Well decorated inside and cosy too. Sarah is a lovely host full of local information. Check in, check out was easy and again that view is amazing!

  • Seapod was a really cool place to stay and different from the usual accommodations. Sarah was very welcoming and friendly and provided everything we needed. Dinner was also great in a nice space with a good, friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed the pod with amazing views in the evening and the morning. Overall a great experience! would definitely recommend it. Thanks Sarah x

  • It is hard to put into words how wonderful the pods at SEAcroft are. The location and view are outstanding - a full side of glass opens out straight over the cliffs, meaning mornings in bed with tea whilst watching the waves. Sarah and Andrew are great hosts - the pods are perfectly equipped with everything you need so you can be totally self-sufficient but it is worth going down to the main house for the full Scottish breakfast, and for an evening meal (or 2, or more!). Andrew is a great chef - the food is local, beautiful presented, but be warned the portion sizes are generous! Plus there is a great atmosphere in the dining room when all the various guests gather to sample local gins and whiskeys. I cannot recommend this special place highly enough - and I will most definitely be going back!

  • Where do we even begin! Our stay at SEAcroft was a dream. The pods were thoughtfully built and appointed, and even though they're quite new, they fit in beautifully with the surrounding landscape. The bed was the most comfortable we'd slept in during our entire trip throughout the islands, and all of Sarah's touches made our stay so welcoming and special. Waking up and going to sleep with the cliff views cannot be beat. If you're able, I highly recommend booking dinner with Sarah for one of your meals (the mussels and the local Abhainn Dearg whisky were excellent!) As for the location, Uig is a quaint and stunning part of the island, even if a bit of a drive from Stornoway. The local community shop is well stocked and the bay of Uig and Mangersta cliffs and close by. Finally, Sarah was the real gem of our trip. Communication with her was a breeze and she made us feel so welcome. She was understanding when we were running late for dinner and check in, had endless local recommendations, and really made our holiday special. Thank you Sarah-- we can't wait to come back!

Andrew is a wonderful cook and Sarah a perfect host. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to relax and really explore the island.

  • A great place to stay and base your trips around Lewis. Norman’s place has all the modern features. Comfortable, warm and clean. There were only two of us on this trip but it is setup for a family. I would stay again for a longer time for sure. Chris

  • A snug place at a nice and quiet location with sheep in the 'back yard'. The house itself might be in need of some modernisation (except the nicely equipped kitchen), but everything we needed during our stay was there and we had a great time. Norman has been a wonderful host, very helpful and kind.
