Places to stay in Mangatawhiri
A privately located and relaxing cottage with farm views on a working dairy cow/sheep farm. Farm walks with incredible views with milking cows, calves, sheep and lambs. The cottage is located about 50 minutes drive away from the Auckland International Airport. Rush hour traffic during the week may add 30-40 minutes onto that time though. State Highway 1 and 2 are within 15 minutes of the cottage so access is easy to the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty beaches and further South through New Zealand.
The cottage is located on a working dairy farm with calves and cows. Cows are milked twice a day. Milking a few of the cows may be something that guests would like to experience. The farm is approximately 400 acres and there are a number of farm walks that guests may like to walk. The cottage is located well away from the main house and is private and quiet.
This is a private location with only a few houses along the road. There are a number of cafes with the farthest being 20 minutes away. The closest place for breakfast is within a 5-minute drive. There is a small superette 10 minutes away by car but it would be best if guests were well-stocked with food before they arrive.
  • Kate's farm is a lovely bit of rural New Zealand heaven. We stayed for one night on a family trip and took some time to walk around the farm, take pictures of the animals, and enjoy the scenery. The cottage is clean and stylish and Kate was very responsive. Great stay!

  • We loved the place. Kate is an awesome host ,smily and helpful. We felt like home ...best night in NZ also because we love farm life. Would stay one week if we could ,maybe next time.thanks for everything.

  • Nice, calm stay, would come again. Felt welcomed. Lots of mosquitos but the king sized bed has a mosquito net.

  • Very peaceful country setting - had a great sleep with all that clean country air.

    Rex2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awsome! The cottage and scenery were also great. I will come back this cottage again.

  • My family and I had a wonderful time at Kate's, and we wish we had more time on the farm. Kate herself is friendly and interesting, and took time out of her day to show us around and chat with us. The beds were comfortable and the wifi was great!

    Ali2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true taste of kiwi farm life, this delightful spot was perfect for our family. Our daughter loved all the animals, and the accommodation was warm, well appointed and value for money. If you’re arriving late I would recommend organising your food on the way as local shops shut early and selection is limited. Kate & Barry are wonderful hosts and you won’t regret booking this place. An easy 50 minute drive to the airport.

    Kieran2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kate & Barry were great hosts, very personable and informative. My sons and I learned quite a bit about their dairy cows. The country/farm atmosphere was so lovely to enjoy and experience. It was such a joy to stay in their cottage. With all the conveniences of home. It was new, with nice furnishings, very clean, comfortable, and cozy. It would be a great honeymoon, or longer stay experience. We wished we had more time to stay here. We thank them very much for their hospitality. Barbara Bucca & sons Mario, and Anthony

Barney and Donna built this studio to help with the overflow of visitors. Being 44 kilometres from Auckland international airport, while still in the farming district of north Waikato, it is very convenient and peaceful to stay for a day or two. Nearest cafe and restaurants are 10 minutes drive away at the Bombay Service centre.
Great place to recuperate after a long flight. On route to Hobbiton, Coromandel, Tauranga, Rotorua and Taupo.

  • Absolutely amazing space! Thoughtful touches that make you feel relaxed and at home. Great location with the perfect combination of feeling like a rural getaway whilst still being super convenient to the big city. Wonderful host, could not recommend enough.

  • Donna is such a sweet lovely host. Such a genuine and welcoming being! Had a wonderful stay at her place although we were only there for a night. This was such a tranquil place to stay at with lots of small cute touches everywhere. We loved the hens outside and Donna's lil black cat. Would definitely recommend and will be back for sure.

  • Diane’s home is beautiful! The pool and spa area and surroundings are stunning, but the location is also super convenient - it took us about 30 minutes to get to Manukau the next day. Would definitely stay again.

Her amenities are great there was a spa and a pool room she invited us to use when we wanted. A great stay with a lovely host!

A lovely cosy space, perfect for an overnight stay after a wedding, function, or hike in the Hunua ranges. We are on an equestrian property with excellent horse facilities.
The room is attached to the garage, with external access, its own bathroom and car parking space. Microwave, fridge and sink available to use in the garage. Breakfast foods will be supplied for guests staying 3 or less nights.
We are close to the beautiful Hunua ranges (10 minute drive to the walking tracks), 10 minutes from Bracu and 10 minutes from John Hill Vineyard. Just 15 minutes from the Clevedon Farmers Market (Sunday mornings) and 10 minutes to Springbush Equestrian Centre.
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Cara's place. The little apartment is beautiful and the kitchenette in the garage well equipped for little meals. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place, a little paradise. We were sad this morning when we had to leave. Thank you for everything!

    Eva2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Cara was easy and the accommodation is perfect if you like privacy. Highly recommend it.

    Stefanie2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable room, well decorated and with all you need for breakfast. Cara is a lovely person, very reactive !

    Marielle2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Really good space and nicely decorated as well. We only stayed one night on our way to the airport, but the room was perfect for us. On the farm property connected to the garage of the house, but still lots of privacy. You can tell that Cara takes the reviews to heart, because we read two comments about no outdoor sitting area and the warmth inside. When we came there was a bistro set outside and a ven inside. That was super to see!!

    Coen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really clean and cosy private room with private bathroom. Easy check in and carpark just next the door. Excellent for privacy.

    Tommaso2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was very smooth and pleasant thanks to Cara's detailed instructions and quick communication. It's a lovely spot to spend some time-far enough outside Auckland to be totally rural, but close enough to make it a great choice if headed to the airport the next day. Great room and great value, thanks!

The Pearl of Whakatiwai. A completely restored Bed/kitchen/dining room with separate shower and toilet. This house was built in the 50's and so we have lovingly recreated the whole 50's vibe for your enjoyment. Right on the edge of the Firth of Thames you can lie in bed and see the views that go on forever. A great little kitchen with new oven and fridge, plus all the tools you need if you want a "foodie" get away. Great fishing right on your doorstep.
You can invite friends and whanau to stay in the other large room of our house (see separate Airbnb listing for The Old New Whakatiwai Fishing Lodge), and make it a great place for a get together. We provide you with tea, coffee (flat whites on request), milk, butter, fresh fruit and a loaf of homemade wholemeal bread. If the chickens are behaving, also super fresh eggs!
Kaiaua and Whakatiwai are unique for the seabirds and fishing. It is a Ramsar site which means that the area is treasured and protected for the unusual stone and sand seabed. The Siberian Godwits fly all the way from, well, Siberia to come here each spring. There is a cycle trail that has nearly reached Kaiaua - it's currently stuck at the Taramaire Bird Sanctuary which is a fabulous place to visit. The Pub is great and does good "pub grub", the Fish & Chip shop is famous and was voted in the top three in NZ earlier this year. And The Pink Shop provides all sorts of yummy treats including the famous Kapiti Icecream....mmmmm.
  • What a great accomodation! We loved the house with fantastic ocean view. The house was very comfortable and clean. Roimata was a perfect host, very friendly and courteous. She baked us homemade bread and we got fresh eggs from her chickens :-) Highly recommend.

  • Wow, this place is just magnificent. All the homely touch’s; fresh baked break, fresh eggs and fruit were just amazing. Such good value and Roimata is lovely. The location of this place is also great, right on water with uninterrupted views. How good.

Simple sleep-out that should keep you comfortable whilst you stay in The Village. Located on a quiet cul de sac, the sleep-out sits at the front of the property with it's own private courtyard and plenty of space for on street parking.
Sleep-out includes wall mounted Television with AppleTV (including Netflix). Port-a-cot and iron available on request.
Best described as a small suburb in the middle of farmland. Meremere was once a bustling village, but since the closure of Meremere Power Station, it is a town waiting to have it's potential re-realised. Currently, the new library and community centre, school with playground and a corner dairy complete the village's needs. The village looks a bit rough and ragged around the edges, but it is an awesome little community that tends to keep to itself.

Located on a back road shortcut between Auckland & the Coromandel. The property is set on 13 acres & is quiet & tranquil where guests awake to the sounds of birdsong not traffic. Looking straight out from the house onto the grounds you can watch cattle & horses graze peacefully or watch and listen to the wild birds, especially hearing the Morepork (a type of owl) at night. By day there is a flock of 25 yellow/white Cockatoos as well as numerous Kingfishers, Fantails, Peewits, Pukekos & Hawks
Communal lounge, dining area and kitchen as well as a sunny deck and large lawn area.
Hunua falls and Hunua regional park. Miranda hot springs. Racing - horses and cars at Pukekohe. Bespoke restaurant Bracu nearby.
  • A beautiful quiet BnB. Claire and her husband are super nice, we sat comfortably on the veranda and got great tips for our later stay in Rotorua. The two dogs and the cat are super nice and at least the dogs will not leave you alone when they have found out that they are being scratched. The check-in rules (6-8 p.m.) are relatively strict, which is understandable, since this is due to the time of Claire's alarm clock, which rings extremely early the next morning.

Located just 9 kilometres from State Highway 1 at Mercer this cottage is about 45 minutes from Auckland Airport, 60 minutes from Auckland City centre, 60 minutes from Hamilton. Pukekawa is a beautiful rural area and has a service station with small country store offering basic groceries along with some fine local produce. The cottage is one bedroom, one bathroom, fully equipped kitchen with open plan dining and lounge area, bright and cheery and in a very peaceful and quiet location.

    James2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • it is very quiet and restful here. If you are looking for a nice, relaxing place....this is it. We were far enough out of the city, yet close enough if we wanted to go sightseeing

  • Really lovely spot - peaceful and restful. Great hospitality. Would have loved to stay longer.

    Karen2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I had average expectations for this stay but it really was great. Immaculate and with such thoughtful touches included, including plenty of snacks. Kerryl and partner could not have been more welcoming, kind or generous. A lovely little escape with complete privacy and all facilities you could ask for. Very friendly goats are the cherry on top!

    Phoebe2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • You need to come experience this little corner of heaven! We stayed the night after an evening at Bracu (which was amazing) and this studio was so lovely and peaceful. Beautifully decorated, filled with delicious treats and spotlessly clean, I wish we could have stayed much longer!!

    Laura2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our favourite stay in north island thus far, the most welcoming and friendly hosts, money aside we would have just paid to hang out with them. The Sleepout was very cozy, clean and with plenty of thoughtful touches. Kerryl and Tom very generously stocked the accomodation with plenty of treats and tea and coffee facilities. We woke up to a very fun and memorable experience feeding their animals, a sleep in was greatly appreciated with an 11 o clock check out. Overall, we will definitely be back.

    Alyssa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time staying with Kerryl and Tom. The place is in a beautiful location and close to Bracu (perfect for attending a wedding!). Nothing was missed, such great attention to detail. We loved all of the thoughtful touches. Wonderful hospitality. Thank you so much!

  • This is the escape you are looking for. Words do not do such places justice - this little cottage is situated on a beautiful, tranquil lifestyle block that will transport you away from your hectic life. You can relax, let your mind wander, and your body rest. But with all the comforts of a farm style getaway, this place still has modern bathroom facilities, a comfy bed, warmth, and style. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

  • Moya's place is in an absolutely beautiful setting. She greeted us and showed us the cabin (maybe not the right word?), then the grounds of their beautiful place. Our 2-night stay was delightful. It had the best mattress I have found yet in NZ! The breakfast foods Moya provided included homemade fruit preserves, including passion fruit. The place is about an hour from the Auckland airport and about 10 min from town, with a wide array of dining choices. The place is ideal and Moya the perfect hostess.

Two minutes from the Auckland motorway on-ramp and a direct route to and from the airport. Views out to the Waikato hills...also a challenging bush walk up a local hill Mt Robert and gentle wetland walk. Close to Auckland but Pokeno is far enough out of the rat-race. Easy to find, beautiful area and the loft is awesome ! Well decorated, modern, cosy and very clean. Shower works perfectly, with different pressure. The bed is big and comfortable. Several windows all around so it s really clear. Breakfast is lovely prepared with milk, chocolate powder, coffee, tea, bread, muffins, fruits, muesli cereal, weetabix, Greek yogourt... and probably more. In case of they are not there, they give you a paper with all information about restaurant and things to do around the area. Thank you and see you soon maybe on our way back to Auckland !

Just 40 mins S. of Auckland, close to Hunua Falls, the beaches of Maraetai & Beachlands, & Miranda Hot Pools. The Gables is a tranquil cottage in a native bush setting on a 7 ha property, with its own private entrance. Many of our guests are international tourists just arrived in, or soon to leave, New Zealand. It is not available for short-term lease, but is a great get-away. There is no public transport, so your own car is essential.
We are located 30 mins (off-peak) South of Auckland International airport, so make an ideal overnight stop for travellers needing a place to rest before driving further on, or for those returning to overseas destinations. It is a great couples retreat or a stop-over for parents with one or two children.
Your neighbours are mainly sheep, neighbour's cows and some distant houses. We are 15 mins to Drury village, where there are pubs and a great coffee roastery/cafe.

Under an hour from the centre of Auckland there is much to do and see in the vicinity of Ararimu. Bush walks, waterfalls, fine dining, casual pubs, take a scenic flight, or the steering wheel of a V8 Holden, go white-water rafting, play a round of golf. There are the golden beaches on the east coast and the black sand beaches of the west. There is plenty to satisfy the fussiest of shoppers from farmers markets to malls. See Auckland outside the city and stay in peace and tranquillity.
Your large bedroom consists of a queen bed, linen, pillows & duvet, a bedside table & lamp with a large internal wardrobe. You have your own toilet and bathroom with shower and large bath. There is a shared open plan kitchen with breakfast bar. Once booked the second room will not be let to anyone else.
Peaceful rural country area, you will often hear the clip-clop of horses going on a morning stroll. Situated in a no exit street going for a stroll down the road is a pleasant experience.
  • Great host, welcoming and made us feel at home. Provided us with everything we needed. Beautiful home, and would definitely recommend.

  • Comfortable private rooms with separate entrance in what you can feel is a wonderful family home. Clean and welcoming as you'd imagine that atmosphere would provide. The Continental breakfast included was delicious and have to mention the jam and marmalade (had to be homemade) with croissants was the most delicious. And then completely blown away by the scenery of tui's nest when I finally got to see it in the daylight.also at Andrew's recommendation the local Indian and bottle O owned by the nicest family whom we visited nightly. Hunua also has the best Grocery Store and Gas Station ever, I wish my local was as forward thinking. Just wish I'd got to meet their dog 🐶. Per fact rural stay for 3 hard working pee that needed some comfort at the end of very long days. Thanks for sharing! Philly, Hannah and Dylan xxx

  • The ranch lays in a wonderful valley, from which you can do great walks through the forest area near by. The house is cosy and comfy and most of all we enjoyed the amazing breakfast. Due to weather conditions we weren't sure, if we could reach the house and Andrew kept us up-to-date as well as offering another night. Just perfect!
