Places to stay in Mangatarata
The Pearl of Whakatiwai. A completely restored Bed/kitchen/dining room with separate shower and toilet. This house was built in the 50's and so we have lovingly recreated the whole 50's vibe for your enjoyment. Right on the edge of the Firth of Thames you can lie in bed and see the views that go on forever. A great little kitchen with new oven and fridge, plus all the tools you need if you want a "foodie" get away. Great fishing right on your doorstep.
You can invite friends and whanau to stay in the other large room of our house (see separate Airbnb listing for The Old New Whakatiwai Fishing Lodge), and make it a great place for a get together. We provide you with tea, coffee (flat whites on request), milk, butter, fresh fruit and a loaf of homemade wholemeal bread. If the chickens are behaving, also super fresh eggs!
Kaiaua and Whakatiwai are unique for the seabirds and fishing. It is a Ramsar site which means that the area is treasured and protected for the unusual stone and sand seabed. The Siberian Godwits fly all the way from, well, Siberia to come here each spring. There is a cycle trail that has nearly reached Kaiaua - it's currently stuck at the Taramaire Bird Sanctuary which is a fabulous place to visit. The Pub is great and does good "pub grub", the Fish & Chip shop is famous and was voted in the top three in NZ earlier this year. And The Pink Shop provides all sorts of yummy treats including the famous Kapiti Icecream....mmmmm.
  • What a great accomodation! We loved the house with fantastic ocean view. The house was very comfortable and clean. Roimata was a perfect host, very friendly and courteous. She baked us homemade bread and we got fresh eggs from her chickens :-) Highly recommend.

Our house is located in the edge of town with all the amenities close by yet very quiet. The bedroom has a queen bed, dresser, fan etc. There are shared toilet and shower. Guests can use the kitchen and outdoor dining as required.
House is quite and conveniently located with lots of trees around.
I love the easy walk to local shops, restaurants, community pool, and essential services. The Hauraki rail trail just around the block for cycling or walking and the beach is about 5 minutes drive....
  • We spent only one night here. Everything was ok.

A privately located and relaxing cottage with farm views on a working dairy cow/sheep farm. Farm walks with incredible views with milking cows, calves, sheep and lambs. The cottage is located about 50 minutes drive away from the Auckland International Airport. Rush hour traffic during the week may add 30-40 minutes onto that time though. State Highway 1 and 2 are within 15 minutes of the cottage so access is easy to the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty beaches and further South through New Zealand.
The cottage is located on a working dairy farm with calves and cows. Cows are milked twice a day. Milking a few of the cows may be something that guests would like to experience. The farm is approximately 400 acres and there are a number of farm walks that guests may like to walk. The cottage is located well away from the main house and is private and quiet.
This is a private location with only a few houses along the road. There are a number of cafes with the farthest being 20 minutes away. The closest place for breakfast is within a 5-minute drive. There is a small superette 10 minutes away by car but it would be best if guests were well-stocked with food before they arrive.
  • Kate's farm is a lovely bit of rural New Zealand heaven. We stayed for one night on a family trip and took some time to walk around the farm, take pictures of the animals, and enjoy the scenery. The cottage is clean and stylish and Kate was very responsive. Great stay!

    Zelda2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the place. Kate is an awesome host ,smily and helpful. We felt like home ...best night in NZ also because we love farm life. Would stay one week if we could ,maybe next time.thanks for everything.

  • Nice, calm stay, would come again. Felt welcomed. Lots of mosquitos but the king sized bed has a mosquito net.

  • Very peaceful country setting - had a great sleep with all that clean country air.

    Rex2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awsome! The cottage and scenery were also great. I will come back this cottage again.

    伸吾2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful time at Kate's, and we wish we had more time on the farm. Kate herself is friendly and interesting, and took time out of her day to show us around and chat with us. The beds were comfortable and the wifi was great!

    Ali2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true taste of kiwi farm life, this delightful spot was perfect for our family. Our daughter loved all the animals, and the accommodation was warm, well appointed and value for money. If you’re arriving late I would recommend organising your food on the way as local shops shut early and selection is limited. Kate & Barry are wonderful hosts and you won’t regret booking this place. An easy 50 minute drive to the airport.

    Kieran2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kate & Barry were great hosts, very personable and informative. My sons and I learned quite a bit about their dairy cows. The country/farm atmosphere was so lovely to enjoy and experience. It was such a joy to stay in their cottage. With all the conveniences of home. It was new, with nice furnishings, very clean, comfortable, and cozy. It would be a great honeymoon, or longer stay experience. We wished we had more time to stay here. We thank them very much for their hospitality. Barbara Bucca & sons Mario, and Anthony

Simple sleep-out that should keep you comfortable whilst you stay in The Village. Located on a quiet cul de sac, the sleep-out sits at the front of the property with it's own private courtyard and plenty of space for on street parking.
Sleep-out includes wall mounted Television with AppleTV (including Netflix). Port-a-cot and iron available on request.
Best described as a small suburb in the middle of farmland. Meremere was once a bustling village, but since the closure of Meremere Power Station, it is a town waiting to have it's potential re-realised. Currently, the new library and community centre, school with playground and a corner dairy complete the village's needs. The village looks a bit rough and ragged around the edges, but it is an awesome little community that tends to keep to itself.

It was a super clean, and new space with everything you Could need. Pretty much a full kitchen and nice bathroom. Although we never met the host she really lovely, thoughtful and quick at responding in her messages. 10/10 place !

  • The cottage was great! Location was perfect for our travels on the way back towards Auckland. The property was gorgeous and the space was inviting. We were greeted by the cutest pup when we drove up, I believe his name was Fen. Then we were shown around the property a bit and got to say hello to the cows! Definitely a highlight! Cherie was amazing and super responsive, definitely made the process smooth and enjoyable while also giving lots of privacy. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Michelle2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This accomodation is stunning. No question. From the moment you drive in you realise how special it is. Cherie and her husband have created a stylish, spacious and very tidy accomodation that has everything you need. The views from the windows out to the fields and cows are breathtaking. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was heaven. Easy 5 minute drive into main shops of Thames. We will definitely be booking this again.

  • Kathleen's place is located in the beautiful Kauaeranga valley close to the Pinnacles hike. You'll enjoy a stunning view of the valley while staying there. Kathleen is an attentive host and prepared an amazing breakfast before I headed out for my hike. Every morning I was greeted by Prince, the curious 1-year mini-horse :). Overall a lovely place to spend some quiet time.

    Andrew2019-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Kathleen and her family were fantastic hosts. The surroundings and the house were amazing and the view from the terrace was stunning. Everything was like in the pictures. There was a lovingly prepared breakfast and I have received many tips for things to do in Coromandel. With the little horses, the llamas, dogs and cats, you really felt like you were on a farm. I highly recommend the place.

    Jennifer2019-03-12T00:00:00Z

The view from the veranda very scenic and at night perfect to enjoy the milky-way while cuddling their friendly dog. Moreover, Kathleen prepared a perfect breakfast with fresh scrambled egg for me and gave me great tipps for the rest of my journey. And her husband introduced me to the cute mini horses and lamas. I would definitely come back and can highly recommend to stay there.

Our place is located in the small village of Turua on the banks of the Waihou river. To the East we have a fantastic view of the Coromandel mountain range and to the West, the Hauraki Plains. Within walking distance is a bakery, and dairy (grocery shop). The popular Hauraki rail trial is a 5 min drive from the property and we have a secure place to leave your bikes if required. The Kauaeranga valley is 20 mins away and is very popular for those wishing to take the pinnacles walk. The historic mining town of Thames offers many things to do and is also the place to find all the local shops and supermarkets. Thames is a 15 min drive from the property. If you are looking for the beach, Pauanui and Tairua are an easy 40 min drive over the hill. Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach are around an hour drive and make ideal day trips. Another popular day trip is to Matamata , home of Hobbiton and filming location of the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies. Matamata is around an hour drive from the property.
  • Clean and tidy place with self check in, which is great for coming in late at night. It's quite spacious, but there are a few stairs to climb. Bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Cooking amenities as listed. Lots of parking. Close the windows before sunset to keep the bugs out (as it's next to farm land), otherwise really great!

This place is absolutely lovely to have a stay away from it all. Handy to Auckland/Hamilto/Tauranga if you want a week end away. Lots of people look at this listing, and only few bookings..Just want to say that we have not had a single person staying here that was disappointed, so maybe you should book. .:) We have also had quite a number of oversees tourists staying at this lovely quiet location, after flying in from overseas, or just before leaving, as it's only 100 k from the airport.
The "cabin" is a stag camper unit, usually seen on the back of a ute(small truck), We decided to put ours next to the creek; it has a very comfortable bed (double) to sleep in, and a great bench seat; the kitchen is just a few steps away and whereever you are, you can hear the running water from the creek, and you are surrounded by native bush. Fantastic for nature lovers and city people wanting a break alike!!!
Our place is unique, because we're reasonably close to everything but still very secluded and a lovely private setting.
  • This is a truely unique kiwi experience - simple done well - would highly recommend both the hosts and this magical little spot

    Helen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great. If you need a quiet getaway to unwind and enjoy nature this is the spot. We loved it, the sound of the stream, native birds and time away from the city. Koos is a good host and we enjoyed being able to walk on the farm. The top of the farm has an amazing view of the Kaimais and the Coromandel.

The neighbourhood is quite, so you can relax and get good sleep after a day in the Coromandel forests. I would definately come back and recommend this accomodation. Thanks for everything, Jade!

  • An oasis of calm. I absolutely loved staying at the Boat Shed. Brody and Aroha were fabulous hosts, the place was spotless, the bed comfy, and as much privacy as you want. This was a perfect place to rest up while visiting the Miranda Shorebird centre and checking out the Coromandel Peninsula a bit. You are right on the coast, with shorebirds outside your window. I wish I could have stayed longer!

  • For people wishing to travel to Thames, NZ, I would recommend Bruce and Annes’ BNB. It is centrally located in a quiet neighbourhood very close to the Coast. You'll find that accommodation extremely clean, comfortable and suitable for couples. The hosts are warm welcoming and comforting after a long days drive. Sadly, our itinerary allowed us only one night stay there.

Escape the city for a weekend in the country, perhaps enjoy some golf at the best course in the Waikato, experience Hampton Downs or maybe visit Raglan, Thames or Kaiaua for the day . A good place to stopover on arrival or departure from NZ. Our place is close to the Waikato Expressway, 7 mins from Hampton Downs and 20 mins walk from Te Kauwhata Village and less than 1 hour to Auckland airport (off peak.) The unit is self-contained and private with breakfast ingredients provided.
We share our place with our small dog Tigger, two cats Muffin and Crosbie, 3 Alpacas _Levi, Jasper and Diego and six hens who lay lovely eggs. If the hens are laying you may get fresh farm eggs for breakfast. In the summer you are welcome to swim in our small lap pool, wander around our garden or go for a walk in the countryside. The beautiful Waikare golf course is close by and welcomes green fee players. The bedsit is quite self contained and separate from the main house. Continental breakfast ingredients supplied.
Te Kauwhata is a small country village with a hotel which serves meals and two cafes. There is a grocery shop, chemist and hairdresser plus other shops and services. Hamilton is about 1 hour south and Auckland 1 hour north on the Expressway. Raglan, Thames and the Coromandel beaches about 1 hour also. Rangiriri which serves great country meals at the hotel is just 5 minutes south and Huntly with the Hakarimata walkway, steam train and Coalfields Museum is 15 minutes drive. Nikau caves and café are 30 minutes drive west to this spectacular natural feature. Bookings required for cave trip. Lakes Waikare and Whangape are close by as is the Waikato River for walks, drives and aquatic activities. Hampton Downs motor racing track is 7 mins away by car.
  • It a picturesque location, there is a small village nearby with some food outlets. There is also a hotel nearby that do good meals for a reasonable cost. The studio is clean and nicely presented and the shower has good water pressure. the hosts are nice people and they were helpful with tips on what was available nearby. there were breakfast items provided and I made use of a nice sunny spot and seating outside of my studio to have a leisurely breakfast. I asked if I could help to feed the alpaca's and I enjoyed doing that very much. I was very happy with my stay here and would be happy stay again.

    Helen2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Loved the swim in their pool and feeding their alpacas. The little extra touches like juice, toast, and cereals left for us for breakfast were great. Clean, comfy and quiet. Would recommend.

"Wens Place" is a delightful 1 bedroom cottage in a peaceful and private bush setting. Fully self contained with everything you need to for a fabulous holiday. Set in the bush above the town, it has the tranquility of the bush but is only a few minutes from Thames. The hosts live next door but your privacy is assured. There is ample room to park your boat if required. Thames is the Gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula and is not far from all the beautiful beaches including Hot Water Beach.
The bedroom has windows and french doors on three sides all surrounded by bush with pathways all around. Theres a deck leading from the frenchdoors with a BBQ. At the front of the cabin is a private outdoor patio with table, seating and an umbrella. inside is a pot belly fire with firewood supplied for those chilly evenings.
The west coast of the peninsula is quite stunning and differs from the east coast (which has beautiful long, sandy beaches) in that a lot of the coastline is rocky with some sandy beaches. The rocks are covered in oysters and the mussel farms in the firth attract the fish, mainly snapper so the fishing over the farms is usually very successful. Being an old gold mining town theres some lovely old buildings and the hills around Thames are covered in old gold mines and shafts. Many of the walking tracks in the areas are dotted with old gold mine shafts, so if you're not keen on swimming, fishing or diving theres plenty of great walks with a bit of history thrown in.
  • Fantastic accommodation. Private, sparkling clean, comfortable with lots of lovely touches. Great location and so quiet. The road and driveway up to the premises is a bit bumpy, but fine when you get used to it! Would love to come and stay again.

My only wish is that I could have stayed there longer to appreciate your place and the beautiful surrounding. I am sure there would be some great local hikes around the property to enjoy. I especially loved the little couch area on the porch outside the bedroom. What a place to relax with a morning coffee!!

Modern cabin with private garden and separate entrance at side of my Railway Cottage (Central PAEROA, New Zealand). Ideal for two with continental breakfast and snacks. Off street parking and cycle storage. Nice interior with kitchenette and bathroom. Quality linen. Wifi. Large flat screen TV. Very clean and comfortable and in the perfect central location for The Hauraki Rail Trail or using as a base to explore The Coromandel and surrounding scenic areas.
This cabin is the perfect get-a-away as it's right in central PAEROA and within walking distance to shops, cafes and all that Paeroa has to offer. Perfect base for cycling The Hauraki Rail Trail. If you are spending a few days here you will have plenty of time to visit Te Aroha (Spa Town), Waihi and Thames (Gold Mining Towns) plus, you are at the gateway to the scenic Coromandel.
Paeroa is the Antique Town of New Zealand with interesting vintage and antiques shops to explore. Check out where the locals eat at The Refinery Cafe and The Courtyard Cafe. The Falls Bistro & Restaurant is a secret I can't keep as the food and setting is amazing! The perfect place for brunch or dinner. The Hauraki Rail Trail is the one of New Zealand's most accessible cycle trails with Paeroa being the perfect base. Close to Hamilton, Auckland and Tauranga it's the perfect couple of days or weekend away. The temperate climate on the Coromandel Peninsula and the Hauraki Plains provides a great all-year round riding experience. The trail has some of the best scenery in New Zealand and includes riding through the stunning Karangahake Gorge, one of the "14 wonders of New Zealand”. The trail follows the path of two historic railway lines, running from Paeroa through Waikino to Waihi. Plus there's the Thames, Te Aroha and Kaiaua rides.
  • Best Airbnb I've stayed at in New Zealand. It has everything you need and more. The space is also very stylish and clean, there's even a private garden to sit and relax in! Would recommend 100%.

It is not a large space but perfect for couples and the space is stylish and functional. We were able to walk into town and the fact there is on site parking was another plus. The room was immaculate and extra care had been taken in preparing it for guests. Thanks Kerrie for a great stay!

We have built two new bed and breakfast units so we can share our peaceful part of the world with others. Great stop over on your way North or South . Great base to explore the Coromandel or Waikato area. Each unit has an upstairs bedroom ( mezzanine ) . One unit has 2 king single beds. The other unit has a king bed upstairs. In both units the downstairs has a bed in the common area and a small area for dinning and a bathroom. Each unit is rented out seperately.
We are located on a 20 acre farm which you are able to explore . We are on a hill overlooking the Hauraki Plains and across to the Coromandel Range . Our small farm is surrounded by farmland. We are rural. The BnB rooms are seperate to the main house.
The local area is a dairy and sheep farming area typical of New Zealand. We are rural - very quiet and peaceful which our guests enjoy especially after a long flight. Ngatea is 20 minutes away - there is a pizza place and subway open until 10.00pm. We recommend if you can pick up dinner on the way. We enjoy fish and chips on the wharf at Thames ( 35 minutes away) or the Thai resturant in Thames .
  • Dot and Malcolm are lovely hosts. Such a peaceful place, we loved our one night stay. They were really helpful, gave us advice on our bicycle trip. Highly recommended!

    Shemiya2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • After arriving in NZ, the first stop on our road trip was Dot & Malcolm's B&B. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome. The apartment was very comfortable, and it was a perfect place to recover from our jetlag. The most memorable part of our visit was learning about Dot and Malcolm's sheep and other animals as they took us on a tour of their property. The entire apartment was very clean, and we slept well in the beds. Our children loved having their own space in the loft, complete with some toys to keep them entertained. A lovely breakfast was provided, which we really appreciated. We enthusiastically recommend Dot & Malcolm's B&B without hesitation.

  • We had a great time at Dot and Malcolms. The place was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They were great hosts and we would happily stay there again.

  • We’ve spent a short night at Dot’s place. They’ve been super nice and flexible, fantastic hosts. Highly recommended.

    David2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Dot & Malcolm's place is gorgeous. It's private and relaxing, and sparkling clean. Dot & Malcolm are friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to provide special breakfast food for our daughter who has allergies. Dot & Malcolm took the kids to feed the sheep, which they loved. Highly recommend this peaceful place.

  • This is a beautiful place to stay one night or two, very clean and comfortable.

  • My partner and I had a wonderful experience staying with Ann & Craig. It easily exceeded our expectations. This was the first time that I had booked through AirBnB so did not know what to expect. Ann and Craig were nice and accommodating, not to mention going out of there way on many occasions to ensure that we had a comfortable stay. One example was that they provided us some advice on what to do around the area, which we followed and we were not disappointed. Having breakfast outside while taking in the farm surroundings was an added feature that I enjoyed during our stay. If you’re thinking about spending some time in the Coromandel, Ann and Craig are the perfect hosts!

    Eddie2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Ann and Craig’s farm house was one of our best Airbnb’s to date. Not only do you get your own private bathroom and bedroom, it’s your own part of their house which is quiet, cosy and extremely clean. It’s a little haven in the middle of nowhere and we loved it. The shower was nice and new and the bed was very comfortable after a day hiking up the Pinnacles. We unfortunately had problems with our rental car as soon as we arrived and both of them were on hand to help which they didn’t have to do. They have two friendly cats that love some fuss when you are sitting out on the decking. Ann gave us lots of great tips on what to do in the area and recommendations for the rest of NZ. Thank you both for letting us stay at your wonderful home.

  • We had a fun time staying, with our 5 y/o in particular enjoying the play area and seeing the animals. Recommend a trip to the local hot spring pool.

  • Quiet, lovely views, house is clean and tidy and has all you need. It is right next to main house but we didn't see anyone from there. A little cafe a few minutes to the north, the hot springs (with cafe) to the south.

The ideal couple get-away!! Paeroa Railway cottage is right in central Paeroa. 2 minutes to cafes, shopping and supermarket. Perfect location to explore the Hauraki Rail Trail and the Coromandel area. The entire cottage is yours and continental breakfast and snacks are provided. Comfortable bed with 5 star hotel linen and towels. Super clean & modern interiors. Air Con and heat pump, large TV and all amenities you would expect from a hotel stay! Plus, no cleaning fees!
Restored to it's former glory Paeroa Railway Cottage is over 100 years yet inside has all the features of an apartment. It's situated in a quiet sleepy street on the banks of the Ohinemuri river offering privacy and a comfortable, convenient space to explore the surrounding areas of Thames, Waihi, Te-Aroha and the Coromendel.
Paeroa Railway Cottage is situated just one street back from the centre of Paeroa . Right on the banks of the Ohinemuri river (Hauraki Rail Trail). You can stumble out of bed and on to your cycle! Paeroa is the perfect place to stay if you are exploring the Coromendel area. Each town you may visit like Te Aroha, Waihi, Thames, Hot Water Beach or even Hobbliton is not far away. Paeroa is full of interesting antique shops and I can personally recommend the Courtyard Cafe or The Refinery for breakfast or lunch. Both cafes will tempt you with their homemade creations!
  • Amazing place, great amenities and it was sparkling clean. Sadly we were staying just 1 night. Would definitely recommend this property.
