Plenty of information on how to use appliances and places to eat/drink. We would 100% come and stay again if we needed to stop in the same area 😊. Thank you!

  • Barley House Farm was a fantastic base for our family to celebrate my father’s 80th. A sparkling clean and huge house with well appointed rooms and bathrooms to keep young and old happy. Great countryside location for getting away from it all. After our stay Emma was fantastic in letting us know that we had forgotten my nephews teddies too and arranged to send on. Very thoughtful!

  • Great place to stay. Perfect for the trans pennine trail. Maria is also a lovely host.

    Steve2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Maria's place is great: all the big things are perfect like lovely decor, comfy beds, great shower room. But all the little things are perfect too, good hairdryer, folder on local sights is obviously very well researched and up to date.

    Carol2017-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful B & B. Lovely quiet bedroom with private bath. Specially created for guests. A carefully chosen folder with extensive information about the area. For example, st. Michaels Church, which is well worth it. Delicious breakfast with fresh strawberries. Mary is very welcoming.

    Tom2016-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • I would recommend staying at this delightful place to anyone, the attention to detail, including the best breakfast ever! and serenity was second to none. Bedding was so soft, bathroom sparkling and brand new, garden surrounding a spacious extension dedicated to the two bedrooms of this guest house. Private and serviced attentively at the same time, attached to a big house with a lovely atmosphere so perfect for wedding receptions I'd imagine, with views from the bedrooms over the garden and adjoining conservatory. Maria has excelled and has the full health and safety and BnB certificated on the walls, it shows.

  • Amazing!!! Absolutely loved it. The place was beautiful and the hot tub was great. Would definitely love to return.

    Georgie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Wow. Wow. What a place!! There was 8 adults and a 10 week old baby that stayed for a birthday weekend away in this beautiful cottage. From start to finish Joe and Elliott stayed in touch with every detail we needed to know and answered any questions we had really quickly. On arrival they were there to show us around and had even popped a log on the fire on for us so it was warm for us whilst unpacking! The cottage itself had everything we could have possibly needed. The kitchen was full of the essentials for cooking and cleaning, the bedrooms were comfortable, the tv cabinet had games to play and there was good WiFi too, the welcome hamper was a lovely touch (mum enjoyed the Prosecco for her 60th- thank you!), towels were great for the hot tub and the living space was great for socialising in the evenings and a big family breakfast in the morning. The log fire easily heated the entire building so quickly (apart from the downstairs loo, you had to be braver for that one in the night lol!). There was full recycling available and eco products to use too which was a good touch. We ventured into York on Saturday afternoon and was around a 30 minute stress-free drive, and locally Howden had a co-op for anything we had forgotten. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in this beautiful cottage. If you’re looking for a great place to get a big group of people together all 8 of us (and probably the baby too having had his first full nights sleep!!) would strongly recommend this cottage. Thanks again!

    Dom2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Even nicer than on the photos! Great hosts. Hot tub was a great addition and clean. Also it’s all very eco friendly!!!

    Sophie2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing weekend at Joe & Elliotts. Its a great base for exploring both the Humber Estuary Area and York. There was more than enough room for the 5 of us, with beds were really comfortable, the downstairs area was perfect for hanging, the kitchen had everything we needed and we really enjoyed sitting in the hot tub looking up at the stars. We will definitely be back if we visit the area again.

  • Catherine is a fabulous host, communications were great and booking in seamless ! We stayed one night for work the following day, it was perfect ! Not far from the M62, if you need accommodation in that area , our job was near York, its ideal. The living area is huge, facilities spot on, real home from home. The three of us had a great nights sleep and agreed we would love to go back for a few days without work the next day ! I imagine sitting in the garden near the river on a hot day is glorious. We also had a couple of beers with the locals in the pub just up the road. Thank you Catherine, a great find !!

Portington Lodge is the ideal location for a quiet family retreat. It is an ideal hub for exploring all that Yorkshire has to offer. York, Leeds, 2017 City of Culture, Hull, Beverley, Sheffield, East Yorkshire's golden coastline and North Yorkshire Moors. Portington Lodge sleeps 6/7 but its sister cottage, Tudor House, across the tree lined driveway sleeps upto 9. So together accommodate larger family groups.
Idillic cottage (one of a pair) with beautiful views on every side over the fields. Nestled in a rural area, at the end of the beautiful tree-lined driveway to our working farm. The nearby town of Howden and motorway in easy reach for a wealth of local amenities and exploring everything Yorkshire has to offer.
Portington is a beautiful, peaceful hamlet with lots of lovely rural walks full of birdsong and other wildlife. Skylarks sing and deer roam in the fields surrounding the two cottages. The cottages are at the end of a tree lined driveway to a fully working farm. Guests enjoy watching the combine during harvest time or the plough turning over the land followed by hundreds of hungry seagulls, and drilling or baling of the straw. The friendly local pub is a 15 minute walk where you can enjoy a drink and lovely meal. Alternatively, get away easily by car or rail to the historic city of York, cosmopolitan city of Leeds, Hull, the 2017 city of culture or enjoy the seaside towns of Hornsea, Bridlington, Scarborough or Whitby (including the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors).

Loved the kitchen with dishwasher; the lounge with log burner and the games and books and puzzles available, plus lots of dvds to watch, and the bedroom was luxurious with rich dark solid wooden furniture and beautiful heavy woollen curtains. The garden was tranquil and we loved everything about the place. Thank you so much Amanda. We hope to revisit soon.

  • George’s Gaff is situated in a lovely, peaceful setting with a beautiful view looking out onto the surrounding farm-land and countryside. The property is modern and well presented and Claire ensures that the little touches, that make the stay that bit more comfortable, are in place. My kids had a great time riding scooters and bikes outside the front of the property and loved playing in the big garden at the back of the property. Claire took the time to welcome us and provide useful local knowledge, which helped us plan some activities with the kids. We even got to meet the newest addition to the family (a lovely little puppy) but she was more interesting in our shoes than having cuddles. I would happily stay at George’s Gaff again.

    Bobby2019-05-31T00:00:00Z

Great for people working in the area
We are very rural being situated on a farm between the Rivers Ouse and Aire yet we have great access to the M62
  • What a lovely, all-too-brief stay we enjoyed at Anne’s and Phil’s cute cottage on Rusholme Lane. The cottage was warm and welcoming (like Anne and Phil themselves), with the fire blazing in the cosy living room. The bedrooms are comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the bathroom bright and cheery. Everything was perfect. In Selby be sure to visit the lovely abbey - there’s a cafe inside and the community spirit is strong. Howden minster is very interesting too. Big supermarkets in Selby and Goole. The cottage is located on a working farm; we were delighted to see Anne leading horses by in the morning and Phil chugging about on a tractor. Communication with Anne before and during our stay was excellent. The cottage is lovely and highly recommended.

  • A lovely little farm cottage. Our children loved seeing the horses and taking a walk out to the wind turbines (and so did we!). We all enjoyed seeing Molly the dog too. The cottage had everything we needed with much appreciated extras for children. The toys went down very well! A great couple of days.

  • We booked a last minute long weekend. Anne was very responsive, friendly and helpful with things like cot bed, stairgate and high chair for our 1 year old. The farm was great. Girls enjoyed chickens horses sheep and the dog. Very quiet and peaceful and plenty of space in the cottage. Very clean and comfy. Well equipped kitchen. We did day trips into York and Peak District. Anne was great, giving our oldest girl a little ride on her horse. We had a great stay.

  • Rusty's Retreat is a beautiful cottage, situated in the ideal place to visit many wonderful places in Yorkshire. We had a very restful and enjoyable week, with Claire and Graham's warm hospitality making it all the better! Definitely a place to return to!

  • Lovely cottages with an unbeatable view. Really friendly and helpful hosts too.

    Emily2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou so much for a fabulous stay at Rustys Retreat. It was such a cute little cottage, lots of character and an amazing outdoor space for our 2 children to play. The only thing I would say is that there was not enough space for us to sit together for dinner but not a major issue. We really appreciated all the little touches including the gorgeous cake for my husbands birthday, so kind! We’d definitely stay again x

    Kara2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the cottages. They had everything we required and were clean and tidy. Claire was a great host, friendly and welcoming, and prompt in communicating. She provided lots of information and well as thoughtful touches in the cottages. The view from the cottages was lovely.

    Reine2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • 8 of us enjoyed a long weekend staying at Grange farm cottages. Our host Claire was extremely informative and provided extensive information which was very beneficial to our trip. It was also nice to be greeted shortly after arrival in person by Claire who instantly made us feel very welcome. The cottages are very well laid out with ample space for cooking. We were also fortunate enough to have impeccable weather enabling us to make use of the well kept private patio/garden areas. Grange farm is located roughly 10 minutes drive from the centre of Howden meaning you are never too far from local shops and it also has good links into York, only 35 minutes by car or train from Howden station to the city centre. I can highly recommend Grange farm not only for its beautiful location and surroundings also its homely feel and very welcoming hosts.

  • An excellent stay. Our host Penny was really helpful in explaining the local amenities, all the facilities that Willow Lodge had to offer, and how to get the best from the pool and sauna. A spotlessly clean and comfortable base from which to get around and see the local area. I would thoroughly recommend.

    Daniel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Penny’s place is wonderful- clean, spacious and much more amenities than you usually get - the pool is amazing- very friendly hosts, great communication- we will be back.

  • Brilliant place to stay. Been there twice now with my wife and daughter. Penny is a wonderful host.

    Steven2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is an outstanding place to stay. Beautiful homely property and a great welcome. The pool and sauna are superb. We had no problems swimming every morning and evening (just have to avoid some clearly specified blocks of lessons). Bubwith itself is a lovely and small village -- we enjoyed our visit to the Jug and Bottle, and also picked up honey and a large courgette for sale outside of people's homes.

    Andrew2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Penny was an impeccable host and our family had a great time using the pool and fabulous garden. The conservatory room has the most relaxing chair where you can look out over the garden. We hope to come back.

Kick back, relax and enjoy this beautiful country garden escape. The accommodation boasts a newly refurbished ensuite double bedroom with private entrance, kitchen area, large sitting room with open fire and TV/DVD, patio area and nearly 2 acres of gardens featuring a tennis court, orchard and views to the 12th century All Saints' Church and meandering River Derwent. Bliss! York is a short journey away, easily reached by train, bus or car. (Pets possible by negotiation).
Newly refurbished double bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette in fully private annexe. Access to large, light sitting room in main house (private) via French doors. Patio area with pond, BBQ, garden furniture. Beautiful gardens of just under 2 acres. River Derwent to the south and All Saints' Church (with regular donging bells!) to the west. Tennis court (needing a bit of attention) and fantastic village amenities.
Bubwith is a lovely English village at the heart of Yorkshire. Although a small village we have an award winning butchers, fantastic deli (Jug and Bottle) with a huge range of gins and wines, a convenience store and Post Office, scrumptious Indian Takeaway, hairdressers and village pub (White Swan) with an extensive menu of reasonably priced home-cooked food. What more could you want!
  • A fantastic countryside stay in a stylish, well maintained and very clean annexe with plenty of privacy and a separate, well stocked sitting room complete with board games, Lego, a cocktail honesty cabinet and a lovely open fire. Hosts were great, left basics in the kitchen and lit a fire ahead of our return from dinner in the evening which was hugely appreciated. Sadly didn’t get chance to explore the grounds but looked like a beautiful location. Would definitely consider staying again!

    Joe2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and beautiful house. The annexe/living room had everything we needed for an overnight stay.

    Lisa2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely apartment set in beautiful surroundings. Andrew was a great host, very welcoming and friendly. Easy to find, in a lovely village. The local pub did some great food, that was excellent value. The bed was very comfortable, and my wife loved the soft sheets. We also had use of the cosy lounge. Nice touches throughout.

    Jeff2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent place to stay for a relaxing break in a very thoughtfully presented and impeccably maintained annex flat.

    Guy2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • I've traveled the world for 25 yrs. This place is a gem, and would rank as one of my (or even someone like Rick Steve's for that matter) greatest "finds". It is the quintessential bucolic, English village experience; words cannot describe the Constable-esque view from the sitting room punctuated only by the neighboring medieval church chiming the quarter hour. And Andy is the perfect host- always there, or never there based on some magical algorithm. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

    Mike2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time at the annex - use of the sitting room is fabulous especially the open fire on a wet and windy dark night. Bed super comfy and fabulously peaceful location. Loved every minute.

    Wendy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a great night's sleep in a comfy bed, with no noise disturbances and a powerful, hot shower to start your day then this is the place for you. Andrew's place is in a beautiful location, the room being set just apart from the main house with access to a cosy living room and roaring fire. We used the accommodation as a base as we are from the area but visiting and it was exactly what we needed. We loved how clean it was, how stylish the decor was, how warm we were and having a great shower. We were welcomed in person despite arriving later than initially expected, given useful extra information, had the fire lit for us on arrival, were provided with extra heating due to a sudden change in temperature and messages were responded to promptly. We also appreciated the provision of a few essentials for our arrival. Great find and was exactly what we were looking for. Thanks guys!

    Rebecca2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous place to stay in this area...especially for those who are lucky enough to enjoy the summer evening there.Very good communication and very spoilt on the last morning with fresh Danish pastries....highly recommended

  • We had a brilliant stay at Andrea and Sally’s beautiful home. Communication was excellent and the house very clean and well equipped. The space was large and spacious and perfect for us two families. Nothing was too up trouble , even popping over a tea pot for our mother-in-law’s afternoon tea birthday celebrations. The added additions Minnie and mouse were a great addition for the kids and the homemade cake a huge hit. Thank you so much - we will be back!

  • This house, and the hosts, were amazing! One of the most well equipped holiday houses we have stayed at, with some really thoughtful touches. It accommodated us (two small families) perfectly, even down to kids plates and cutlery and toys. The rooms and beds were spacious and comfortable. Andrea was very welcoming and it was so nice she offered our kids to meet the donkeys on Saturday morning! The house itself was perfectly located to day trip into York (about half an hour to Grimston Bar park and ride) or the Railway museum. Thank you so much, and we may well be back! • Fantastic location with a peaceful view across farmers' fields. The cottage was spotlessly clean with lots of outdoor space for children to play in. The provided toys kept my little ones busy for hours. Claire and her husband were great hosts, I didn't realise we needed a baby bouncer at home until Claire provided us one during our stay. Ideal location to take in the countryside while still being close enough to locations like York.

  • We have just had a really lovely week staying at Grange Farm Cottages. Such a tranquil location, great for a good night's sleep which is a rare occurrence for a light sleeper with a young baby! Even though we arrived late in the evening, Claire greeted us at the door as we had let her know our ETA. We instantly noticed that she had left us a few treats as well as some teabags and milk which were much appreciated after a long day's travelling. It has to be said that Claire is thoroughly accommodating and went beyond what we expected to provide us with a baby play mat and bouncer on top of the standard travel cot. The cottage had everything we needed and, although compact, housed us and of our plentiful baby paraphernalia perfectly, along with a few friends who popped in to see us for a cuppa! We have always lived locally but Claire's detailed guide contained information about things that we didn't know about. There were lots of extras as part of the accommodation including board games, DVDs, chalkboard chalks and children's toys. Every time we opened a cupboard, we found a little something else which impressed us. Thank you for your hospitality Claire. I'm sure we'll be bsck next time we're visiting!

  • Perfect accommodation, great use of the space. Lots of local information inside the property. Very comfy furniture and a wide range of utilities in and around the kitchen area. Claire was extremely friendly and helpful and easy to contact.

  • This is a high quality, homely cottage in a quiet setting but with loads to do close by. Highly recommended!

  • The cottage is located in the village of Wressle - which despite being lovely is rather tiny. Yet the cottage itself was lovely - beautifully furnished, great itinerary, clean and had a really cozy atmosphere. Our dog really enjoyed being able to run around the farm with its large medows and to be able to play with the Claire’s dogs! The check-in (code system) was really easy and allowed us to check in whenever we wanted. Claire was a lovely host as well - the house was prepared for us with towels, bed sheets and a few welcoming treats and Claire herself was very welcoming, nice and ready to help us whenever we required help! Overall, our stay in the cottage was beautiful and we would definitively recommend a stay in Claire’s cottage for anyone who wishes to enjoy a peaceful stay in nature or who’s ready to drive a bit to experience yorkshire! We hope to come back soon!
