The Snug is a quirky character cottage and is located a couple of minutes' walk from the popular pubs, tea rooms and shops in the bustling market town of Hawes. This quaint cottage benefits from an open fire in the lounge, a flagstone flooring on the ground floor, ceiling beams and exposed stone walls giving the cottage a lovely cosy feel. There are 2 double bedrooms and a bath/shower room with separate toilet.
The Snug is a traditional Yorkshire property, built around 1880. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it and have spent time carefully modernising it to make it into an attractive and comfortable place to stay in the lovely market town of Hawes in Wenselydale. Downstairs: Access is through the oak barn door from the front yard, leading you into the 'sung' front room. There is an open fire and we will leave you wood and lighters for your first night. The front room has a TV and DVD player with a lovely old Chesterfield chair to sit and watch the crackling fire. There are walking books and an Ordnance Survey map that you can borrow while staying in our cottage. There are 2 radiators in this room. The kitchen has recently been modernised and has fitted a washing machine, dishwasher and fridge with freezer. The table is in the kitchen area and seats 4 people. The window seat is a great place to sit and watch the wildlife. There is a double radiator in this room. Upstairs: There are 2 double bedrooms each with a wardrobe and radiators. Clean linen and towels are provided. The bathroom has a bath and overhead shower with a towel radiator and hooks. There is a small sink and a vanity unit to store toiletries. The toilet is in a separate room with a sink and radiator. Heating: Open fire (welcome pack of fuel provided), electric central heating. Garden/Patio: Paved area to the front of the cottage, where you can sit out. Notes: • Towels and linen are provided • Unlimited Wi-Fi is available free of charge • No smoking • Mobile phone signal is strong.
The Snug provides a perfect base to explore the Yorkshire Dales. The Small market town of Hawes has everything you could need, from a small supermarket, exceptional bakers and butchers, cafes, restaurants and country pubs! All of this is literally on your doorstep!

  • Beautiful home in a lovely setting in the heart of the dales. Lovely stay. Only slight issue is that check in is quite late (4pm) - which meant we had to stay out and about until then. Aside from this, perfect.

    Omar2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage, thoughtfully decorated and full of character. Had everything we needed, super central and great hosts, we’ll definitely be booking again!

    Clare2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I can not rave about this place enough. The cottage is perfect, we ate at the pub at the bottom of the hill most nights. Then went back to the cottage and relaxed in front of the fire. We have a fiesta and were able to park the car in front of the bench on the hill. If you have a big car I would recommend unpacking on the main road as the hill is STEEP! Thankyou for an amazing stay :)

  • Perfect cottage, lots of space in an amazing location.

    Lucy2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • A great property for exploring the local walks, shops and restaurants. All rooms were a good size with the kitchen well layed out and perfectly usable for cooking meals. Parking is not a problem if you are happy to use the nearby National Parks carpark (£15 for the week) after unloading. We were very happy with the property.

    David2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house and Hawes is a fantastic base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, fantastic cafes and pubs are all in walking distance and the locals couldn’t be more friendly. The log fire and comfy beds provided the perfect place to stay after days exploring local waterfalls, visiting the village playground and eating copious amounts of cheese at the Wensleydale creamery round the corner. A great place to visit any time of the year!

The working fireplace makes the barn cosy in the evenings and the shower is amazing after a long walk! Terri was a super host, quick to respond and even left us fresh eggs and homemade bread when we arrived. Would definitely recommend the 2 mile walk across the fields to the local pub the Rose and Crown for a true Yorkshire experience!

  • What a lovely place for some respite from the Christmas festivities. The accommodation was beautiful and in such a striking part of Yorkshire which is great for R&R and walking. Good advice given by Terri on walking , things the do and places to eat. Terri was a great host and nothing was too much trouble for her, her kind personality shone through which made our stay away from home even better. The bread, eggs and milk are a great touch that was appreciated by ourselves and the cosy fire was just what was needed after a days walking, our dog appreciated the heat also !! Thanks again and we wouldn’t hesitate to book next time we visit Yorkshire, it was like a home from home .

    Steve2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ow do? The Owl Barn is an outstanding place to stay, to unwind completely, and in my case, to also produce some original writing... which was very easy since the property is located in the most amazing, and peaceful Yorkshire Dales countryside. It snowed in the late afternoon when I arrived at the property. As soon as I unpacked my things I had to have the first of many walks from the Owl Barn, even though the Dales were darkening under the heavy snow shower, with night falling around me. There were large snowflakes floating past me as I tramped through the mud, but the landscape scenes around me at twilight were to die for - absolutely breathtaking and memorable! Which also describes Terri, the owner - not breathtaking, but memorable! Her welcome makes you feel you've known her for years, and she will do everything to make sure your stay is magical. You will devour the loaf of bread and her own hens' eggs she leaves you - they are absolutely delicious! Basically, what I am asking you to do... is definitely stay there! Enjoy the properties unique atmosphere, Terri's outstanding welcome, and have a wonderful, unforgettable time in the Yorkshire Dales. Peter

    Peter2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay, Terri is a fantastic host could not fault the whole stay. The games room is fantastic and pictures cannot express how good the place is. The surrounding areas are lovely and we had a beautiful getaway. Cannot rate this place enough! Thank you for having us Terri x

  • The location of Jakes Place is lovely and it was exactly what we expected. In particular, it was immaculately clean and very comfortable and well appointed. We received a friendly reception and some handy local advice. Thanks :-)

Holme View is lovely three story, stone built town house in the centre of the town of Hawes, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a two minute walk to shops and pubs and some of the best walking and scenery the Dales has to offer.
In the heart of the market town of Hawes, Holme View gives immediate access to shops, cafe's and pubs. In the heart of the Dales, Hawes gives immediate access to some of the best walking and scenery the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. Holme View is let on Airbnb as a Holiday Cottage. It is not a B&B. On the ground floor there is a comfortable sitting room and a well equipped kitchen/dining room where you will find tea bags, sugar, salt and pepper. There are three bedrooms, two with double beds and the third with two singles. There is only one bathroom, which is why the house is listed as accommodating only 4 people. Bed lined and towels are provided as outlined below. Please follow the recycling instructions in the kitchen.
The town of Hawes is a small, classic, picturesque Yorkshire Dales market town. It has plenty of shops, coffee shops and pubs. Hawes is slap bang in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. From the door, there are a number of lovely walks, including Hawdraw Falls (the highest in England), Gale and Burtersett, These are all gentle walks i.e. flat even ground for the most part. More challenging (steep and rough ground) are also within easy reach of Hawes by foot or short car journey. Hawes is also within 3 miles of the highest Lake in England, Lake Semerwater. There are so many fabulous things to visit and see in the Dales, far too numberous to list here so a visit to the Yorkshire Dales National Park website and the Hawes Community/Tourist office is highly recommended.
  • Fab house, perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales right from the house. Paul was really helpful, popped to see us on arrival to check all ok and told us not to rush on day of leaving as we had 6 inches of snow overnight. We really appreciated the late check out as it gave us longer for our stay. Would highly recommend Holme View, lovely house, lovely location.

    Tricia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Nice three-storey private house in a small courtyard in the middle of a town with plenty of pubs and coffee shops (and an eco-shop). Everything in the house was easy to find and easy to work. Bathroom has a heated towel rail. Clear arrival instructions and the lights (and heating) were on when we arrived - very welcoming after a long journey!

    Alison2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay in the middle of Hawes. It’s well-equipped and a great location, with shops, pubs etc right on the doorstep. We stayed for a week with 10 month old twins and Paul couldn’t have been more helpful to get things set up for us, with great communication.

    Harriet2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable accommodation with all the facilities you need as a base to explore the Dales. Its in a great location with access to the shops and a great range of pubs offering food. If you are wanting to eat out I would recommend you book as the better establishments get filled up quickly. We ate at The Crown, which was great and we were also recommended the White Hart Inn just around the corner.

    Patrick2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space, comfy beds, super convenient location right in the centre of Hawes, with shops, cafes, pubs and beautiful walking right in the doorstep.

The addition of the stunning scenes and wildlife made our stay even more enjoyable. The hut was spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

  • Excellent stay all round, everything and more, worth penny!

    Daniel2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Zena and Nick were super nice and kind. We had no trouble finding the place despite using public transport only. The place looks exactly like in the picture. During our stay, we had a chance to see the red squirrel every morning from the Hut. It was our first experience staying in the Hut and it was memorable.

    Cindy2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Zena and Nick's place is beautiful. The Shephard's Hut is designed beautifully in natural colours and feels so homey. The hut is located in a woodland, which is stunning and, when we visited, full of vibrant Autumnal colours. There is unforutnately no stove or oven, but the hut does have a toaster and microwave to heat food with. We felt very welcome at Nick and Zena's place, and would love to return in the future.

    Hannah2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Zena & Nick are lovely people and great hosts. There shepherds hut is fantastic and in a beautiful location.

Our cottage is an attractive two bedroomed stone cottage in the small village of Burtersett. The cottage is comfortably furnished with the lounge having a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and a washer dryer. The main bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom provides twin bedded accommodation. The cottage has a downstairs shower room and upstairs there is a further separate WC. Outside is a seating area to the side.
Middlegate Cottage is in an idyllic location where you can truly relax and unwind with your family. This semi-detached holiday property lies in the quiet, peaceful village of Burtersett, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and has been thoughtfully designed especially for holiday makers who wish to explore the area. Guests will enjoy the stunning scenery of this distinctive Dales location. Rolling hills, quaint villages and traditional village pubs are all within easy reach. There are excellent walks close by along the Pennine Way and also trout fishing available locally. The bustling market town of Hawes is a 5-minute car ride where you will find the Dales Countryside Museum and Wensleydale Creamery, home to Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese, along with a varied selection of shops and eateries. Nearby Semerwater, which is a large natural lake, provides a wealth of water activities such as swimming, fishing and sailing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. More about the area: It has given its name to one of Britain's finest cheeses, but Wensleydale has so much more to offer. This is the valley of the River Ure, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a popular destination for walkers and hikers. As well as the rolling landscape of the valley itself, Wensleydale is overlooked by the distinctive flat- topped hill of Addlebrough, above the village of Bainbridge and Penhill, which stands guard over Leyburn. Wensleydale's dramatic scenery is dotted with ancient towns and villages, offering a great range of shops, pubs and tea rooms. Hawes, at the head of the valley, is the centre of the famous cheese-making industry and home to the Wensleydale Creamery (a firm favourite with Wallace and Grommit) as well as the famous Hawes Rope Makers, while Hardraw is home to Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England which is accessed through the famous 'Green Dragon' traditional inn. Just a few miles down the road at West Burton you will find the beautiful Cauldron Falls, famously painted by Turner on his trips to 'The Dales'. At Aysgarth, the River Ure tumbles down a limestone staircase at the beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls, famously featured in the blockbuster Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves. Aysgarth also hosts a National Park Centre full with helpful staff and information to ensure that your visit to the area is memorable for years to come. There are many other fascinating towns and villages in the valley; hidden treasures abound as the Ure flows eastwards. Middleham, with its castle, was the childhood home of Richard III while at West Burton, you can visit the famous Cat Pottery. Just a stones throw away you will find the challenging Yorkshire Three Peaks; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough for the more adventurous types and after the hard day exploring the peaks then why not stop off at The Station Inn at Ribblehead Viaduct for refreshment before heading back to the cosy Middlegate Cottage. Although a walker's paradise, tired feet can let the train take the strain with a trip on the Wensleydale Railway. Heritage steam and diesel trains run along 17 miles of line between Redmire and Leeming Bar at the eastern end of the dale. Don't forget the famous Buttertubs Pass, a great walk that leads from Hawes and Hardraw, over a high moorland pass and down to neighbouring Swaledale.
The cottage is situated in the quiet hamlet of Burtersett right in the heart of Wensleydale with the most stunning scenery and just a stones throw away from Swaledale.
  • We stayed in the property in early March. Everything we needed was present for our short stay, which we very much enjoyed, despite the weather. Great walks on your doorstep in the small village of Burtersett, with Hawes only being a short drive. We enjoyed the recommendation to visit the White Hart pub, which we enjoyed. Great communication from the host, Pamela also. Thanks

    Mark2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just like the photos and as described. It was a great little cottage to spend a bitterly cold weekend in the Dales! The log burner was a brilliant addition and it was very cosy.

    Sarah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage and very accommodating hosts. Great location just outside Hawes, would definitely recommend

    Jack2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time. Would really recommend Pamela’s cottage.

    Rebecca2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was exactly as described and even more spacious than the pictures suggested. Although there are no amenities in Burtersett itself, Hawes is a 5 minute drive or 15/20 minute walk away and has everything you need. The facilities in the cottage were excellent and we cooked both dinner and two cooked breakfasts with no problems at all. Everything was sparkling clean and very cosy. We will definitely consider Pamelas house again in the future!

    Emma-Louise2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well presented property, everything you could need is provided. Pamela is extremely quick to answer questions and Hawes is a lovely place to spend a weekend.

  • Lovely cute little cottage in a quiet area. Everything you need plus hawes is a short half an hrs walk from the house. The only thing we found a problem was the parking but apart from that it was perfect.

    Martin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Anna's place is a small cosy cottage in a tiny hamlet in the beautiful Yorkshire dales. The place is perfect for 2 and has everything you need. It's a 5 minute drive from wensleydale where you can go for some beautiful walks and visit the creamery. I'd highly recommend the green dragon pub next to the waterfall in Hardraw

The location is in a quiet area and very close to some fantastic views. We loved our stay and would highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing, quiet getaway!

  • Cozy cottage with centuries of fascinating history and a great log burner. It is extreemly quiet and tranquil but not too far to drive to Hawes - a town where we found everyone we met to be friendly.

  • Beebole Cottage was everything we were hoping for and more. it was a little safe and comfortable haven, even when storm Ciara arrived. The living room is small but perfect and cosy and the log fire was such a treat. The kitchen is super well equipped and the bedroom is lovely with an excellent bed and mattress. It was so quiet as its on the ground floor so we couldn't even hear the rain. It's a beautiful location, a few minutes walk from Lake Semerwater and 10 minutes drive from Hawes. Anna was very reactive and answered us so quickly and helped us during the storm on Sunday. We were so grateful that Anna was so considerate and offered for us to stay over when the weather was dangerous. what a perfect host!

  • Beebole Cottage is a wonderful couples’ hide-away in a particularly stunning area of England. It’s a great base for going walking - we loved going on the walks suggested in the books provided in the cottage - and also a great place to nest and relax with books, by the fire. The cottage had everything that we could possibly need too, making it the perfect accommodation for a mini-break for two!

Situated in Wensleydale ("James Herriot country"), it lies just a mile from Hawes and the Pennine Way - a few minutes by car, or just 20 minutes by foot along an old flagstone track across the meadows. Hawes has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. Castle Bolton, Askrigg and Aysgarth Falls are not far by road in the other direction. And there are numerous spectacular upland or valley walks you can make straight from the door of the cottage.
  • Lovely cottage in the Yorkshire Dales !

  • We loved out stay here. Great location for many walks. Hawes is only a short walk across the farmers fields and the path is clearly marked (be sure to take a torch for the evenings). The pictures don’t do the house justice, much bigger than I expected. Would stay again

A cosy one bedroom stone built cottage in Wensleydale, close to beautiful walks and waterfalls. Good for couples and solo adventurers. A great base for walking and cycling. The perfect place to relax and unwind.
Lion cottage is a one bedroom stone built terrace cottage. The cottage is the second of four individual dales terraced cottages down a gated private lane known as the Newkin. The original wide board doors and floors, spiral stone staircase and shelving give a sense of the past. Downstairs is a good sized, cosy sitting room with a wood burning stove, dining table, sofa and a gorgeous old oak armchair. To the rear is a fully equipped fitted kitchen, with fridge/freezer and electric oven and hob. The stone stairway winds from the lounge to a small landing. Off this is a double bedroom and a bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet. Outside across the way from the cottage is Lion Cottage Cub House. The washing machine is just inside the door to the Cub House. There is also a ceiling mounted drying rack which you are welcome to use. The Cub House bedroom provides comfortable sleeping accommodation for 2 people in a double bed. It has it's own shower room. There is an additional charge to rent this space, please contact me for further info. The Cub House will always be unoccupied unless you have booked it. It is never rented out separately to the main cottage. To the left of the Cub House is a narrow path and shallow steps that leads to a secluded patio garden with flower borders and a wooden gate. The perfect place to sit on a warm sunny day. Through the gate is the designated parking area for the cottage, providing an alternative to accessing the cottage via The Newkin.
The village of Bainbridge is located on the A684 between Leyburn and Hawes, near the meeting of the river Bain with the River Ure. At around two and a half miles in length the River Bain is said to be the shortest river in England. Bainbridge is known for its expansive village green which has some fine examples of stocks. Stocks were abolished as a form of punishment in the United Kingdom in 1872. The Roman name for Bainbridge was Virosidum and the remains of a Roman Forte are located just east of Bainbridge, on the other side of the river, on Brough Hill, where various Roman remains have been found A local custom in Bainbridge is the sounding of an ancient horn which was once used to guide foresters and travellers safely to the village from the surrounding Wensleydale forests. The horn is still located at the Rose and Crown public house and is sounded every night at 10 pm from the Feast of Holy Rood (27 September) to Shove Tuesday. Bainbridge has a local inn (the Rose and Crown), a small village shop with post office, a local butcher, a garage selling logs, sweets and newspapers, and a café (Mill house Tea room). There are other small shops, tea rooms and places to eat in just over a mile away in Askrigg. An equestrian centre offering riding lessons and local trekking can be found a short distance away at Gill Edge.
  • Very cosy and welcoming cottage, easy to find with plenty of instructions provided by the host in advance of arriving. Has all the amenities you would need for a short or long stay. Great location, very scenic and within reasonable distance of many places of interest. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning.

  • An excellent little place to stay, Bainbridge is a very good start for many wonderful hikes, and very easy access to these walks. You can forget your car, the cottage is very quiet, the bedroom very cosy & a superb bathroom. A wood burner too which was perfect in our freezing temperatures this weekend.

Spacious 3 storey detached cottage situated next to the River Bain and the mill race at the end of a quiet lane in the beautiful Wensleydale village of Bainbridge. Our cottage is a quiet place to unwind and relax where dogs are welcomed, and the beds / bedding chosen specifically to ensure a good night’s sleep. The well equipped kitchen also includes baking equipment should the urge strike you. Sit in the dining room next to the patio and mill race and watch the birds or the river flowing by.
Ivy Cottage is homely and cosy, yet spacious and convenient for walks or bike rides from the door along the valley to Semerwater, where you can kayak for a small fee, or up to Askrigg Common. There is ample free off-road parking, an outside seating area and the cottage is centrally heated. The sitting room has comfortable chairs, a log burner within the old stove (logs are provided for your first night), a tv and WiFi throughout the house. Off the sitting room is a cosy snug with two armchairs and good task lighting for any crafters or those wanting to read. There is a downstairs toilet and basin with level access. The well equipped and stocked kitchen includes the basics (ample tea, coffee, sugar) along with herbs/spices, flour, sugar, a hand mixer and stick blender for your hearty soups, as well as plentiful crockery and cutlery. The dining room has windows looking over the small patio over the mill race to the River Bain. There is access to the river from the patio and you are welcome to take your drink and sit on the bench next to the water. On the first floor there is a spacious double bedroom and the house bathroom has a bath and electric shower, plus a clear view of the river (there are curtains for your modesty!). On the second floor you will find a small double (4’) in one room and a twin next to it with far reaching views of Askrigg Common over Bainbridge. Linen and Egyptian cotton towels are provided. There is off-road parking for up to 3 cars, and space for bike or boat storage in the garage.
With its traditional village green, Bainbridge is set in Upper Wensleydale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The green has a playground, resplendent with a zip wire, and stocks for the naughty. Within the village there is a pub which welcomes muddy dogs and boots, a village shop, a super butchers and a tea room all within a gentle stroll of the front door. Ramsey’s fish and chip van visits the village once a week - they are so good that you will most likely get to queue and chat with the locals, 2AA Rosette restaurant Yorebridge House is 1/2 mile away, along with a selection of good pubs in Askrigg a couple of miles away. Supermarkets, a delicatessen, specialist coffee merchant, Wensleydale cheese factory, The Dales Museum and other facilities are about 4 miles away in Hawes. For the more energetic, there are numerous walks from the door (there are maps and guides at the cottage), and a stables a short distance away at Gill Edge who offer riding lessons and trekking. If you are bringing dogs, most of the pubs locally are happy to accommodate them and there is a good vet at Askrigg 2 miles away in case of emergencies.
  • The pictures don’t do this cottage justice. It is beautifully furnished with gorgeous artwork and feels like a real home rather than just a rented space. The amenities are the best we’ve ever had in an Airbnb cottage and we were very snug. The host Rachael could not have been more generous and thoughtful. The village has everything you need for a relaxing holiday in glorious countryside and Hawes is just up the road.

Oughtershaw is a tiny, peaceful, rural hamlet of only 8 houses surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Nestling close to the bubbling Oughtershaw Beck and oozing period charm is Amber Cottage, a traditional Dales house dating from 1732. Amber Cottage is directly on the ‘Dales Way’, so ideal for walkers and is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day exploring everything that the Dales have to offer.
Inside space: On the ground floor there is a lounge and well equipped kitchen with a dining area. Upstairs are the 2 bedrooms - one double, one twin - and a bathroom. Heating for the house is included and is by wood burning stove in the lounge and nsh heaters. Kitchen: The kitchen is well equipped with a cooker, microwave, sink, fridge, washer/dryer and a radio, as well as a host of utensils. Lounge : The lounge has a sofa, armchairs, TV (with FreeSat), a DVD player and a Bluetooth speaker. The major feature of the room is the original inglenook fireplace, within which we have installed a wood burning stove which provides excellent heat and better fuel efficiency. We provide the logs and coal. There is a selection of books and maps of the area and a games cupboard with children’s toys and board games. There is a good WiFi connection at the cottage but as a result of its rural location, please note that there is no mobile phone signal. Bedrooms: Bed linen and towels are provided. Bathroom: With WC, hand basin and bath. Outside: Parking for 2 cars on the driveway. There is a large private garden with garden furniture. Oughtershaw Beck is just over the wall at the end of the garden.
The location of Amber Cottage is ideal for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, but the Lake District is also within easy reach. The closest town is the quaint market town of Hawes, which is 6 miles away. Here you will find a host of local shops, pubs and small eateries, as well as the famous Wensleydale Creamery - a must for cheese tasting! Enjoy a walk at Aysgarth with its magnificent triple flight of waterfalls and spend a day exploring Skipton, the gateway to the Dales, with its imposing mediaeval castle. However, many guests simply enjoy walking in the stunning local countryside around Oughtershaw. “Oughtershaw. A piece of bleakest Yorkshire, but smiling in the sunshine through its bare miles of tufted grass. The air had the sharp sweetness which is found only on the top-most Pennines.” James Herriot

  • The cottage was lovely and cosy and had everything we needed, including a log fire to dry out and warm up. Jane’s hospitality was great and we felt very welcome in her home. We enjoyed morning runs straight out the door of the cottage and over the fields. We highly recommend the Ingleton Waterfall Trail, White Scar Cave and on a wet day the Wensleydale cheese factory.

  • Amber Cottage is a world away from the huzzle and buzzle. A wonderful place to start your daily hikes from, ideally situated in the middle of a rambler's paradise. The cottage is very comfy, warm and has everything one might need of sunny and rainy days. Communication with Jane was very smooth and we loved our stay in this quiet part of the Dales. Hawes is about 15 min drive away - a beautiful busy little town with all the charme of Yorkshire. I can only recommend Amber Cottage.

We are tucked away in a quiet, pretty location just off the village green in Bainbridge. We offer a spacious, modern one bedroom annex with private entrance & parking. The property has been recently renovated to an exceptional standard, offering modern accommodation. The annex is split over two floors, a large en suite bedroom on the ground floor with a spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine sitting room. There are tea & coffee making facilities, no breakfast, a tearoom just down the road.
It’s an ideal place to stay for wedding guests at Yorebridge Hotel, walkers or cyclists can store gear in my garage, and it’s perfect for those who want time in the countryside.
We are surrounded by open countryside, there are walks in all directions.
  • Diane’s annexe is a cosy bolt hole with pristine decor & comfy bed. A warm & friendly welcome awaited us & we were so grateful to be ‘rescued’ from storm Ciera’ as we were stranded en route home to the north east. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this delightful property.

Danehill Cottage lies in the hamlet of Oughtershaw in the small, and very beautiful, Langstrothdale. The beck, which runs along the bottom of the garden, eventually becomes the River Wharfe. It is a very special place to us, and we are always delighted to share it with others. Oughtershaw is fairly remote: there is no reliable mobile reception, unless you walk up the hill, and no land line - there is a telephone box in the hamlet. The cottage is simple. We love this, and hope you will too.
Inside the cottage The door opens into the main downstairs room, which has a sofa (this can be used as a sofa-bed for two) , rocking chair, table and dining chairs. The main feature of the room is the glorious open fire, which is essential in cold weather. The recently refurbished kitchen is up a step from the main room and is well equipped as we enjoy cooking. There is a fridge, with small freezer; a washer-drier; electric cooker and oven; and microwave. At the far end there is breakfast bar. The back door at the end of the kitchen takes you into the garden. Stairs lead up from the main room to the first floor where there is a newly renovated bathroom, and a large bedroom. In addition to the king size bed there is a full size day bed with a pull out truckle underneath. Bedlinen and towels are provided. Wherever possible all the fabrics are from fairly traded sources. Outside the cottage The back garden begins with a raised patio, with outdoor table and chairs. There is a barbeque area, and appropriate utensils. The grassed area is fenced so that the sheep and goats, who normally keep the lawn trimmed for us, can be kept out during stays as they eat almost anything! At the end of the garden a stile leads over the fence to give access directly down to Langstrothdale Beck, which is a great place for paddling and for bird watching.
There are many fantastic walking and cycling opportunities, as well as excellent birding - we often see owls, and guests have seen kingfishers. Most of all the beautiful rural location offers the opportunity to enjoy the steady rhythm of country life. The village shop in Kettlewell is well stocked, and to the north Hawes is a super market town. There are also many local farm shops, notably, the Wensleydale Creamery in Gayle and the extensive farm shop at Kilnsey. There are many places of interest to visit to suit all ages and tastes. We keep several folders of information at the cottage for ideas.
