Places to stay in Graythwaite
Character cottage in the heart of Bowness. Walking distance from all amenities , yet set back in a private location behind trees. With parking and lovely garden this is the perfect place to explore the beautiful surroundings.
FOXGLOVE COTTAGE IN WINDERMERE LAKE DISTRICT Foxglove Cottage lies in Bowness, one of the Lake Districts most popular villages, with its many shops, inns, cafes and restaurants leading down to the beautiful lake Windermere. Foxglove cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and to walk to local restaurants for a spot of dinner and maybe glass of wine or two. The end property of three traditional lakeland cottages, Foxglove Cottage is a short walk from Bowness village and bay and yet remains private, hidden behind trees and shrubs. A shared drive leads up to the cottages and Foxglove is on the far end with lovely private garden to the rear. The side entrance leads into the well equipped kitchen/dining room. A single step leads up to the oak beamed sitting room. The room has comfy sofa and arm chairs, and , of course , the obligatory log burning stove. A most comfortable and cosy place to relax after a long walk in the beautiful surrounding area. A narrow staircase leads to the upstairs floor, on the landing is the first bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A few more steps lead onto the main landing off which there are two bedrooms, one the master double, with en-suite whirlpool bath and overhead shower, the second a pretty twin bedroom. At the rear of the cottage there is a lovely private garden, surrounded by shrubs and trees. there is a dining area where you can perhaps have a barbecue and enjoy a glass of rose in the spring/summer. This is a perfect place to stay for either couples or a small family, where the amazing area of the Lake district can be easily explored and just a short walking distance you can pop out to wine and dine in the evening before returning to a cosy relaxing cottage. The Location The linked towns of Bowness and Windermere lie east of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake. Each is a busy community of shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions, serving both the local community and our visitors to the Lake District. Perhaps the biggest attraction is the bay at Bowness, a sweeping crescent of waterfront and adjoining parkland, where you can enjoy a walk by the shore or find a quite place to picnic. At the bay you will find the piers and the famous Windermere steamers, which offer boat trips up and down the ten - mile reach of the lake. Here you can also hire rowing boats and motor powered boats, which can be taken by the hour to explore the lake and it islands for yourself. Other popular attractions are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and a little south of Bowness the Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, one of the most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. The house is a superb example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture, where it occupies a stunning position overlooking Windermere and is open to the public as a gallery for craft and applied arts. North of Windermere is Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Center. Set on the lakeshores the main house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you will find a huge adventure playground, café, shop and exhibitions along with a host of information about the National Park. For visual entertainment you have the Royalty Cinema in Windermere, and the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness, staging a lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, where for me the best is by far Jericho’s in Windermere. Owned and run by Jo and Chris Blaydes, the welcome is always warm, the setting perfect and the cuisine delicious. For a good country pub atmosphere there is the Queens Head at Troutbeck, about 2 miles from the main village the inn offers fine beers, good food and roaring fires in winter months. For the big walks and big landscapes you will have to travel a bit further into the park, however there is a good local walk up onto Orrest Head, which begins from Windermere, just opposite the railway station. Anecdotally it was the first ever walk for Alfred Wainwright where the view from the summit was said to have changed his life and set him on a lifetime of fell walking and the production of those much loved walking guides. Also quite local are the fells to the south of Bowness. Although not mountain high, they offer a magical rolling countryside rising above the lake with magnificent views. Travel a little further afield and you much to explore. South of the villages, at the foot of Windermere, is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where the steamers terminate. Here you will also find Fell Foot Park for boat hire, fishing and the National Trust Gardens. East lies kendal, the capital Town of South Lakeland. A host of good shopping, restaurants and a busy cultrural scene with the likes of the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Brewery Arts Center. At the northern head of the lake lies Ambleside, a popular town with cinema, pubs, restaurants and huge selection of outdoor and climbing gear shops. Once you past the head of the lake you are within easy rach of the big fells such as the Langdales, the forest of Grizedale and the other great lake in the south, Coniston Water.
The outstanding natural beauty, beyond compare! Convenience of local village with it's selection of restaurants and shops.
  • Lovely traditional Lakeland cottage, super cute and brilliant location. Stayed here Friday to Sunday for my partners birthday weekend away. The cottage is very cute and cosy with lovey wooden beams and traditional decor. Kitchen has excellent amenities and the place is lovely and clean. The location is just perfect, tucked away behind trees yet a minute walk from the centre on Bowness. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

  • We couldn’t be more impressed with Artie’s lodge. Everything from start to finish was top notch. Elizabeth was a fantastic host and very welcoming. The views are incredible and the lodge itself is beautiful, filled with really quirky features. Lovely touches like the gin and bath bombs made it great to relax. The breakfast was delicious and it was delivered to us hot and at the time requested. Our dog Dennis had a lovely time and made a friend in Elsa :) All in all a fantastic trip and we highly recommend!

    Amy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect romantic getaway with stunning views across the lake, I would without a doubt stay here again!

    Jack2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to a personal welcome, and were made to feel at home right away. We were treated to a cooked breakfast on both mornings, which was a pleasant surprise! Is spite of the weather, the views of Lake Windermere were amazing from the large windows on the ground floor. The home is gated, with secure gardens for our dog to play. We’re hoping to return in the summer to see the lake in all it’s glory!

    Kyle2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place. I came with very little knowledge of what to expect and I had an amazing time. The host is very friendly, available and helpful. I had no idea where to go walking and the host immediately gave me several recommendations. Artie's Lodge overlooks Lake Windmere with a stunning, undisturbed view. The place inside is kept extremely clean and is full of character and quirks. The lodge is very well furnished. My favourite bits were the massive bed and amazing bathtub! I went with the full English breakfast and certainly wasn't disappointed. The meat was extremely flavourful and those home grown eggs! I came away having really enjoyed my stay and just wished I were staying longer. I would definitely stay here again.

    James2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth was a fantastic host - the lodge is beautiful, the location is perfect, and breakfast was delicious and a much appreciated addition to the stay. Oh, and the view! One of our best AirBnB’s we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in many around the world. Thanks very much for a great stay, 100% recommended.

    Josh2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay! We had such a wonderful time! Thank you so much for making us feel welcome, we will definitely be back!

    Daniel2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely visit. Beautiful location and close by to bars/restaurants. The out house was bigger than expected and the breakfast was an amazing touch. Wish we stayed longer. Elizabeth was very accommodating and we would love to come back in the summer time and explore even more of Lake Windermere.

    Zoe2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

    * Corona Virus edit: We are still taking bookings. We are in a rural setting with no immediate neighbours * The Bothy at Cowmire Hall is a delightful, first-floor converted farm building, consisting of a hall, large living-room/kitchen open to the roof, a shower-room and double bedroom. There is also a gallery or sleeping-platform above the kitchen area which can be accessed via a ladder from the living room/used as a bedroom at your own risk and there is also a sofa bed in the living room.
The main living area is open plan and vaulted to the ceiling with exposed beams and trusses. A Juliette balcony opens out on to the inner farm yard giving views of Whitbarrow Scar, an impressive limestone escarpment and well worth a walk to the top, where views of the neighbouring valleys and beyond on a clear day are a must. The kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of crockery, utensils, serving and cooking dishes, pans, baking trays, making life easy if you want to enjoy home cooking during your stay. It is open plan to the main living space, meaning guests can interact whether relaxing on the sofa or rustling up a delicious meal. There is a large electric range style cooker as well as a microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The Bothy is centrally heated and also has a wood burner - perfect for a night in. Kindling and logs are provided, baskets are stocked on arrival and guests are invited to top up from the woodshed during their stay. The living area had a large TV screen with DVD player, internet is free and is Fibre to home Broadband, giving excellent connection should you need it. Fuel, bed-linen and towels are included. The Bothy sleeps up to six people, with the option of a double bed, sofa bed or two single floor beds on the mezzanine (open to the main living area). Please note that the mezzanine is accessed by a cut out wooden wall ladder. The bathroom has an electric shower, basin, toilet and large linen cupboard. There is a utility room on the ground floor (separate entrance) with use of a sink, washing-machine, tumble-drier, freezer space and space for bicycles etc. There is an outside sitting area with table and barbecue. The Bothy looks out to the south over a farm-yard to Cowmire Hall - a C16 pele tower extended in the late C17, where the owners live - its garden and the Winster Valley. To the north the view is of the farm orchard. There is not any livestock in this yard, though tractors come and go, and our hens have the run of the space during the day. Guests may park cars here. The yard is separated from the main road by a gate, and the house by a wall and gate, giving a safe space for dogs to be off the lead. We would however ask that they are exercised either along the lanes or adjoining fields.
There are 2 local pubs within walking distance of The Bothy, one being the famous Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank and also the Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. Walking takes about 15/20 minutes to these fantastic pubs, both of which allow dogs.
  • Great countryside location close to Lake Windermere - well maintained and lots of character

  • A wonderful place to stay whilst in the Lake District. Rebecca was very welcoming and helpful, the accommodation was clean, comfortable and great fun for us city folk. We will be telling all and sundry about our stay and urging them to book so I'd be quick if you want to enjoy the bothy.

    Daniel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Bothy is beautiful. Put the kettle on and have a cuppa by the log burner and read a book or watch a film. The entire place was clean, comfortable and quaint. The little touches Rebecca adds such as the blankets, the towels, the decorative ornaments make its feel like a home. The kitchen has everything you need, even spare dog bowls. Rebecca was lovely and responded quickly to any questions I had. Being greeted by the chickens in the morning is a delight too. It’s also only a 15 minute drive to Windermere where you can get the ferry over the Ambleside. The walks are peaceful, especially when the sun is shining.

    Nicole2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This barn is an amazing place to stay: charming, comfortable, beautiful and fully equipped. The surroundings so peaceful and wonderful. Rebecca and her husband very nice, comunicative, make you feel at home. Couldn't find a more perfect base to explore The incredible Lake Disctrict area.

  • The apartment is beautiful throughout. The location is very central so easy to find restaurants and shops. Communication between the hosts and myself was very quick and they made sure to cover all areas and was always there to help if needed. The little touches they added just made the stay extra special, they had a sweet box for us and my dog even had his own treats. I will be booking with them again when I go back to Windermere.

The kitchen was especially helpful, everything you would need for making simple meals at home including a great selection of spices and some other useful ingredients. We travelled with our 9 month old and it certainly felt baby friendly whilst still being super stylish and comfortable. Projector screen TV was an awesome addition too! Great communication and helpful hosts when needed as well. Would happily return!

A charming apartment in a traditional Lakeland house. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach.
Willow is a located in tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. Willow has a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The kitchen, dining and living area are all in one room with sink, electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. The bathroom has underfloor electric heating, a shower, toilet and wash hand basin. A cot for a baby can be provided on request but please bring bedding for the cot (my children are in their mid 20s now!) Willow and our grounds are not 'child friendly', however. I do not provide child proof plug socket covers or cupboard locks. In addition there are a number of external hazards including a pond, stream and stone steps close to the apartment. Your child/children will need to be supervised at all times. I charge a one off payment of £5.00 for the use of the cot. I can provide a camp bed which fits in the kitchen/dining/living room area if the sofa is moved! It is a bit of a squeeze! If you wish to use the camp bed as well please bring a sleeping bag. I charge a one off hire fee of £5.00 for the use of the camp bed. There is a small courtyard by the entrance with table and chairs. Bicycles can be stored in an undercover storage area next to Willow in our shed.
The Lake District is a year round destination and Pinethwaite Lodge is located near Windermere in the heart of the National Park. Outdoor opportunities are endless: walking, cycling climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking - all within easy reach and Windermere Golf Club is just up the lane. The main tourist attractions of the southern Lake District are all on the doorstep – Windermere with cruise boats, Beatrix Potter attractions, a cinema in Bowness – and a little further away are the Aquarium of the Lakes, Car Museum, Sizergh Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre. Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784’ hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.
  • Cecilia has such a wonderful apartment in a brilliant location, just a 10 minute walk from the centre of windemere. A great base for exploring the lakes and fantastic value. Thanks Cecilia!

  • An outstanding location and staff. We stayed for two nights and love the place so much. Jonathan, Georgina, Craig, and others were excellent, funny, and attentive. My spouse and I visited with our 11 and 9 year olds and they enjoyed as well.

  • We stayed one night and we’ve been very happy. Our room was facing the lake and we couldn’t have asked for a better view. The location is perfect, has access on the lake, the B&B is very cosy, Jonathon and the staff are very friendly. Recommended!

    Stefano2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathon's place was fantastic. I arrived to a plate of home baked scones with jam and cream! The loft was spacious and clean with plenty of fire wood for the wood stove. The bed was comfortable and the farm was peaceful - I came away feeling completely relaxed. The location had proximity to everything I needed! I highly recommend Jonathon's place and will definitely stay there again the next time I am in Cumbria.

Great value for money.

    Elizabeth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place to stay with very froendly and helpful hosts. Easy to get to and find. Private hot tub is lovely to have access to and with it normally having a gazebo over, useable in almost any weather! Very comfy bed and cozy sofa to curl up on. The only things I'd change/add is a few more/new utensils in the kitchen (e.g. tongs for cooking and sharp knives) and curtains for the 2 doors. Just to make it that bit cozier when it's dark. We will be keeping in mind for future Lake District adventures!

    Kerri2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, nice and quiet, cosy, we hardly left the place all weekend!

    Andy2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic property and fantastic hosts. The place was spotless and spacious. Kitchen had everything we needed and the hot tub was a lovely addition that allowed a very relaxing break. Debbie was quick to respond to messages and any queries we had. Loved having use of the local leisure centre facilities too. Would highly recommend!

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for a couples retreat. Beautiful furnishings, spotlessly clean. 5 mins drive to the lakes.

    Jane2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accomodation at a great price

    Chloe2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie is an excellent host, showed us about at check in and how to use the hot tub etc and any questions you had throughout the weekend were answered with fast and helpful responses, the house looks exactly like the photos so wasn’t disappointed, free use of the health club along the road is the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be staying again myself

A romantic, stylish and cosy cottage for two in the beautiful Lake District National Park, half a mile form the shores of Lake Windermere and 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of the M6. We've recently completed a top-to-toe renovation of our 250 year old cottage, giving the place a modern rustic feel. There are many wonderful walks and bike rides available right from the front door and some great gastropubs nearby - plus the 2 Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant just a few miles away.
Free BT super-fast WiFi. Charging point for electric vehicle. Smart TV with FreeSat. 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of M6. LGBTQ friendly. Dog friendly. We can organise fun things for a special occasion, including champagne and local handmade chocolates - please just ask.
Lake Windermere is a short walk from our front door, accessed via the National Trust's Fell Foot Park. Newly opened Active Base centre at Fell Foot offers a range of watersports. Across the lake at Lakeside is the Haverthwaite Steam Railway, the Lakes Aquarium and you can take the passenger ferry around England's largest lake with Windermere Lake Cruises.
  • So lovely and cosy. Probably the best bath, I‘ve ever had.

    Grace2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Back to reality after what was the most relaxing and tranquil weekend. Loveday was just perfect for what we needed and exceeded all expectations. The perfect place to unwind and put your feet up after long walks and breathtaking scenery, all a stones throw from the cottage. Thank you for making our weekend so special.

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage, even better in person! Very clear!

    Rhys2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage has everything you want! It’s Spacious, very clean, well equipped, cosy fire, amazing wooden bath and the best homemade brownies we’ve ever had. It has country walks just down the road and is in a good location for driving round to all the lakes. I would recommend to anyone wanting a cosy get away.

    Claire2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A rustic peaceful haven with very thoughtful touches

    Paul2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home, perfect location for a getaway! Couldn’t fault a single thing and we will 100% be back in the future

    Jack2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Loveday, such a beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. Clear communication and Emma and Gregor have added lots of personal touches. Would definitely stay again!

    Holly2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing little find!! Loveday cottage couldn’t get any better, the place itself is so cosy and homely but so high end and chic at the same time. You can tell a lot of thought and effort has gone into making it what it is. The homemade brownies were a lovely personal touch too - much appreciated. The location is perfect and close to Lake Windermere which is lovely but it’s still far enough out of the way to feel like you’re hidden from the world. Words can’t describe how chilled and at home we felt in the cottage and also how lucky we were to find it! If you’re considering staying here don’t bother reading anymore reviews JUST BOOK!! You will not regret it ❤️

Nestled in 5,000 acres of private estate on Lake Windermere, is this stunning, detached, self-catering holiday cottage. Dairy Cottage is a former farmhouse in The Lake District and has beautiful views over the Low Graythwaite Hall gardens. Perfect for a romantic break or a family/friends holiday with stunning walks and bike rides right on your doorstep.
Holidaymakers staying at Dairy Cottage have use of four acres of extensive grounds including large lawns, woodland and a pond. This delightful three bedroom self-catering cottage in The Lake District sleeps up to 5 or 6 people. Downstairs there is a lounge/diner with open fire (complimentary coal/logs on arrival), smart television and a modern fitted kitchen/diner with breakfast bar, electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher and washing machine. Upstairs there are three bedrooms - 2 doubles and one twin. There is also a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over, basin and wc.
The Old Dairy at Low Graythwaite Hall is a five minute drive south of Hawkshead Village and the shores of Esthwaite Water, close to the western shores of Lake Windermere and the car-ferry crossing to Bowness. Hawkshead is an adorable village of cobbled streets and traditional Grade II listed Lakeland cottages. You'll find a range of local shops here, including the Honeypot Delicatessen which offers a treasure-trove of Lakeland luxuries. Spend a lazy morning in one of Hawkshead's charming tea rooms or cafes. There are several TripAdvisor-rated traditional pubs in Hawkshead and we recommend the short drive to the acclaimed Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant at Outgate. A larger selection of shops can be found in Ambleside, a few miles away and the larger on-line supermarkets will deliver your groceries to Dairy Cottage. Hawkshead is the perfect base for walkers, with routes, right from the doorstep, to suit all levels. Take the stunning walk to Tarn Hows, stroll on the shores of Esthwaite Water, which also has an excellent trout fishery or explore Grizedale Forest; a picturesque network of pathways, cycle tracks and sculpture trails. Why not take on Grizedale's Go-Ape, Latterbarrow, or Claife Heights, conquer the nearby Langdale Pikes or enjoy the watersports that nearby Coniston or Windermere have to offer. The surrounding landscape inspired the children's author Beatrix Potter. Her former home at Hill Top, Near Sawrey is now run by the National Trust and is open to the public. A truly magical experience for all! Directly behind Hill Top is Tower Bank Arms, a traditional pub with stone-flagged floors, Lakeland ales and a roaring fire. Bowness can be easily reached via the car-ferry across Lake Windermere, only a few miles from your door. Bowness is a bustling Lakeland town, with contemporary shops and a wide range of entertainment. Hire a boat in Bowness Bay, or take a steamer cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or Lakeside. Windermere Golf Club is just beyond Bowness village.

In light of the Coronavirus, we wanted to reassure our guests that our beautiful country hut is like home from home. It is isolated from anyone else or any other properties, with its own private outdoor space. Your nearest guests are the sheep in the field next door! With 5* reviews, hygiene has always been paramount and we personally clean our hut to the highest standard. We provide hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes and all linen is professional cleaned. With best wishes, Jo and Darren
Set on a private road, away from the noise, and yet both Windermere and Bowness are only a short 10 minutes walk away. There is a private parking area with plenty of space that is shared with the main house, connected to a small path leading you to the hut. Mountain bikers are welcome to bring and leave bikes in our secure garage.
The hut is based on a quiet, hidden road, in walking distance to the vibrant Windermere town where there is plenty of places to eat out from Italian cuisine to Thai. One of our favourite places to eat is The Smith a small family run pizza restaurant with a log fire and twinkly fairy lights. If you like your beer and ales the crafty Ba is a friendly place with homely decor and a great ambience, not to mention the most extensive selection of drinks available. We've had many a cheeseboard here! For amazing brunch and breakfast it's a must to visit Homeground coffee and kitchen! And for sunny days I recommend Cafe Italia across the road with outside seating where you can drink cappuccinos and watch the people go by.
  • Wonderful place to stay that we cant recommend enough. Perfectly situated from both Windermere and Bowness by foot (or by other means) if you want somewhere close to the towns yet away from the noise. Stunning views from the hut over rolling hills and off in to the distance which come at great value for money in a very pricey area. Super clean, and really well fitted out the hut was ideal for our needs. Jo was a great host who went to every measure and beyond to make us feel comfortble. Would happily stay again in the future - thanks for having us.

    Oliver2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The five stars option isn’t enough! We have travelled to Windermere/Bowness-on-Windermere many times over the past 13 years, but this stay has absolutely been the most special and memorable stay. Jo and Darren kindly left a lovely bottle of bubbly for our Anniversary 💕. The Hut is just perfect, so beautifully decorated and so cleverly designed. We loved the Stag and Heart details which are so pretty and stylish. The views are spectacular and how lovely to wake up to sheep just outside the window. We were sad to leave today, but we will book to return. Our best Anniversary ever, Suzanne and Paul

  • A gorgeous and cosy place to stay in the Lakes, only a short walk to Windermere town and Jo and Darren were super friendly and added lovely touches to make us feel welcome! A perfect home for a few days away!

  • Jo's place is amazing. Fantastic location with stunning views. Jo has made a small space into a haven with everything you could need and more for a break away.

    Vicki2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days staying in Jo's hut and exploring the Lake District. Although the weather was less than ideal, we still managed to enjoy our time away and we would definitely recommend staying at Oakland Hut due to the great location and brilliant facilities.

    Rebecca2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Jo's place as a birthday gift for my brother and sister in law. They had a lovely time, the hut is very cosy and welcoming and Jo added a very personal touch leaving a birthday cake and card which was much appreciated.

  • Just returned back from a short stay in Windermere. This hut is stunning with lovely, thoughtful touches. Although small, it provides a quiet get away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. Location wise it is perfect, you can be in the heart of Windermere within 10 minutes walk where you can find lots of nice cafes/bars/pubs and shops. The hut has everything you need, and I can imagine in summer the outside part of the property is beautiful with the scenery and BBQ! Jo and Darren were amazing from start to finish, communication was fast and check in/out was effortless. They were always on hand if we needed them. Despite the weather we still came away feeling happy, well rested and refreshed. I cannot fault this fab property, will definitely be booking again! Thank you Jo + Darren!

    Amy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A great two nights away in rainy February, the hut was everything we wanted and more! Very private and perfectly situated just a short walk into Windermere where you’ll find lots of great restaurants and bars. The hut was very cosy with underfloor heating, so perfect for a getaway no matter the weather. We’re already looking forward to getting another trip booked in for Summer so we can make use of the lovely outside area. Thank you very much Jo and Darren x

  • Total and utter heaven! Me and a friend went to The Lakes for some mega hiking in the windiest rainiest weather but Sophie’s hut kept us warm, unbelievably comfortable and all the treats upon arrival alongside the gorgeous little stove made for a magical trip! The space itself is beautifully designed with lots of storage for bags, a hot shower and all the facilities (bar an oven and a hob) that you could ever need. 10/10 from us and will be sending friends and family up there soon!

Sophie is a great host, answering any questions we had and the breakfast hamper she provided on arrival was delicious! We really can’t wait to come back.

  • Sophie is a fantastic host with the most beautiful Shepherds Hut. It’s amazing what she has done with such a small area and has come up with really great ideas to utilise all the space. It’s so cosy, especially when the wood fire is on. Not once did I feel cold or like it was too small. Sophie provides a the cutest breakfast hamper on arrival and she catered for me being vegan without any trouble which I am very grateful for! The homemade granola is delicious!! I definitely recommend staying here. Sophie went above and beyond to provide local walks, attractions, places to eat and drink etc and I really loved my stay here.

The Den is less than a minute's walk from the shore of beautiful Lake Windermere and is located on a bustling, historic pedestrian street. It is perfectly located to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the quaint village of Bowness, with the finest eateries and most stylish cocktail bars being right on its doorstep. This well-appointed one bedroom apartment is the perfect place to enjoy all the Lake District has to offer.
Set in a charming, characterful 400 year old building, and tucked away in a quiet secluded garden, this delightful, spacious one bedroom apartment has a modern, well-equipped kitchen and beautiful living area with large Smart TV and real open fire. A parking permit is provided to allow parking in over 40 car parks in the local area and there is easy access to a great network of public transport. However, many fantastic walks and attractions are within walking distance, making this an ideal base for exploring the area. This charming hideaway is ideal for couples on a romantic break or solo business travellers.
There are so many lovely places to eat and drink on the doorstep that it is difficult to know where to start! The Villa Positano is an excellent Italian restaurant that is at the bottom of our stairs; at the end of The Ginnel you'll find Bodega Bar which does great tapas and across the street there is the famous Vinegar Jones Fish and Chip Shop. All within a minute's walk! If you are prepared to go for a two minute walk, you'll find the two best cocktail bars for miles around. One at either end of Ash Street. The Country Hut is warm and welcoming and does great cider and rum punch, the Fizzy Tart is glamorous and upmarket. There are tons of places beyond Ash Street and discovering them is a joy in itself, so I won't spoil it for you!
  • Perfect place to stay in the heart of Bowness! This was a cosy spot to retreat to in bad weather and to use as a base when exploring Bowness or venturing further afield to the lakes, towns, fells and mountains. Spotlessly clean on arrival with an easy check in and check out. Would recommend!

Small but perfectly formed en suite double room in a Lakeland Victorian townhouse. The house is on a quiet street in the heart of Windermere, just 2 minutes walk from the many bars, cafés, restaurants and shops, and just 15 minutes walk from the shores of lake Windermere. The train station is a 10 minute walk away.
A light, sunny room (when the sun is shining :)) at the back of the house with views of the Lake District mountain tops. The space is small but not pokey. It's been beautifully renovated with a brand new en-suite bathroom, a very comfortable bed and a selection of fair-trade teas and fresh coffee for you in the room.
  • Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. Lovely room, thoughtful & caring host. Location is ideal. John went out his way to make us Vegan brownies on leaving. Wonderful touch to a wonderful host. Thank you

    Kyle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • John is one of the nicest people I have met. He treated me like a personal guest in his own home. The room is sparkling clean and the amenities are great. John rustled up a hearty breakfast and had excellent advice about local trips. Highly recommend. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

    Jagan2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • John is a really friendly and helpful host with a beautiful home. We had a great time staying here, and would definitely come again.

  • We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone! Lovely host, beautiful room, perfect location and tasty breakfast! Thanks John! Hope to go back soon.

    Amber2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • John was amazing! A lovely host, very good tips for the area and made us feel most welcome. The room was great as well. Very clean and a super comfortable mattress. We were sad to leave after just one night and will be back when we’re in the area again. You’re missing out if you don’t stay here!

    Annkathrin2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my husband can highly recommend John's place. John is an exceptional host. The communication was super. He was very quick to respond with any questions. He is easy to talk to, friendly and accomodating. John let us drop bags off early and park car. He offered us a guest pass for the car and we were able to park right outside the house. It's location could not be better to explore Windermere with its beautiful shops, cafe bars, restaurants and so much more. It is in a very peaceful and quiet area of Windermere. A 5 minute stroll into the heart of the town and 20 minutes to Bowness. It really is such a magical area and John's place is perfect to use as a base to explore. The photo doesn't do this place justice. It's a beautiful Victorian house. Full of charm. Its absolutely spotless. Immaculate. The bed was super comfortable and the bedding luxurious. A nice hospitality tray. Stylish en suite bathroom with a great power shower. Breakfast was offered. We love omelettes and this was not a problem. Served downstairs in the bright and airy basement in a beautiful kitchen with lovely coffee. A great start to the day. Our stay could not have been any better. We would highly recommend this wonderful Airbnb. It's a very good price too. Always a bonus.

    Debra2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very good place and John is a nice host. John is very kind and skilled in art and music. He was very kind, listening patiently to my fluent English and paraphrasing words I didn't understand. My time talking with John is still an important memory for me! Surrounded by John's house and the nature of windermere, we had a very nice time! The room was very cute and renovated by hand and looked like a hotel. There is also a brand new private bathroom with a nice British antique handle. The bed is large enough to sleep with two people. In the evening, I cooked freely in the kitchen with open kitchen. Because John cooks everyday, he has a lot of spices and Japanese knives. I was able to relax and relax as if I were living abroad. The house is a quiet place because it is just one from the main street. Supermarkets and main streets are just around the corner, and within 5-10 minutes walk from windermere station. I want to go to England again to stay here! Thanks for John's hospitality!

The space A very quiet place close to the shore of Lake Windermere (200m away). Downstairs is an open plan room comprising lounge area with settee and sitting chairs. the dining area has a dining table and two pew type bench seats (came from a local church). The kitchen has all the normal appliances and a food prep island with two stools to sit at. There is wifi and Freesat tv. TV is wall mounted and downstairs only. Also downstairs is a small loo with washbasin and the washing machine in a small adjacent cupboard Guest access Directions are emailed a few days prior to arrival along with access details. Please note I may not be on site to welcome you or see you off at departure. Other things to note The garden is shared and you're welcome to enjoy it but please note that the surfaces are uneven and can be slippery. There are a couple of pubs/ inns that provide food but you may need to book it and space could be limited. Another great option is to get a meal delivered by a local company who actually deliver nationwide but are located in the Lake District. We have negotiated a 10% discount for our guests using the discount code THE BARN. If you search for Montgomerys dinner delivery service you should find it. Our water and heating is predominantly wood fuelled thus relatively carbon neutral. The hot water is however 'hot' so please note this. Please note that the Barn is for 4 people not any more, should you wish to exceed this for a reason please tell us before booking. Car parking is for one car only, should you need more it should be left on the raid by the junction. Again please let us know beforehand. More than 1 car clogs up the drive too much.
Emma’s place is located in Cumbria, England, United Kingdom. We are located on the West side of the beautiful Lake Windermere approx 4 miles form the nearest shops. Beatrix Potters house and Hill Top are approx 1 mile away as is the National Trust Claife viewing station and cafe by the ferry overlooking the Lake. It is a very quiet side of the lake and the closest towns are Ambleside at the Northern part of the lake and Windermere/Bowness on the East side. • Would highly recommend - beautiful location away from the usual tourist spots but still within reach of nice local pubs, walks etc. Gesine and Glen were amazing hosts, very easy communications and check in, possibly the cleanest Airbnb I've stayed at, and much appreciated local recommendations (Queens Heads Inn (Hawkshead) and Manor House both amazing food). The eggs were also much appreciated and very tasty!

A converted barn situated at Newby Bridge, located Close to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, and a short walk to the Swan Hotel & Spa. The cottage sleeps up to 3 guests and the stylish accommodation has a single and a super king-size bed on a mezzanine floor above a snug living room area, around a wood burning stove and a very large open living space. Well placed to explore the Southern Lakes, with easy access to both Hawkshead and Coniston, as well as Windermere and Ambleside.
The access, parking and gardens are shared with Waterside House.
The Swan at Newby Bridge is lovely to stroll along to for a meal. The National Trust Fell Foot Park around the corner is worth a visit. You can take one of the Steamers on Lake Windermere from Lakeside up to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
  • An excellent spacious barn (for two to three guests) which is both well equipped and boasts many interesting features. It's in a great location for exploring the lakes and is in a quiet spot immediately adjacent to the Haverthwaite to Lakeside steam rail track. It's a 5minute walk to Newby Bridge Station, which is handy. Don't be put off by the noise from the passing trains as you'll hardly notice them, plus they only pass infrequently and the first one in the morning isn'tuntil nearly 10:00am. A great comfortable place for a relaxing break.

  • We’ve had a wonderful two days at Dorothy’s Place. The location is beautiful and so peaceful. We loved the decor and there are so many lovely touches like the food basket on arrival. Nigel gave us a very warm welcome and communication with Julie was excellent. We would highly recommend staying here for a tranquil visit to Windermere.

  • Great little find. The accommodation was even better than it looked in the pics. We arrived on a dark evening to the lights on and everywhere lovely and warm, plenty of hot water etc. Everything was spotless. A lovely basket of treats had been left for our arrival. Julie was easy and quick to communicate with. They also helped recommend a nice Thai in Bowness. We walked down into town on a snowy day, but make sure you go down Smithy Lane as suggested in their guide, much safer route. We would definitely return. Thanks for a lovely time.

Our home is in the hamlet where Arthur Ransome, author of 'Swallows & Amazons' spent his childhood holidays. Today it still retains its charm, even in high summer. We are a stone's throw from the lake, with woodlands & waterfalls on our doorstep.
We have 2 lovely guest bedrooms, each with king-size beds, sharing a spacious bathroom. (We often only have one guest group at a time but on busy weekends you may have to share the facilities.) I provide fresh towels, shower & bath products, wifi access & tea/coffee making facilities in your room. You can enjoy your buffet breakfast either in the kitchen by the Aga, or outside if the weather is nice. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your packed lunch or a simple evening meal though of course you may prefer to visit one of the local pubs or restaurants; the nearest pub is the Red Lion ( a gentle 2 mile walk away if you're feeling energetic!)
If you want to leave the car behind, just step out of the door! Explore the small pebbled beaches and coves at the southern end of the lake by foot or on your bike. The lovely National Trust steam boat 'Gondola' plies the lake and you can have a leisurely cruise, or perhaps visit Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin for over 30 years. If you want to climb the fells, the Old Man of Coniston and other famous Lakeland peaks are just up the road.

  • An absolute gem of a place. Ann is an excellent hostess and nothing is too much trouble. The place is squeaky clean, tastefully decorated and warm even in the stormiest weather. We hope to be staying again soon

  • We loved this place at Newby Bridge. I have to say that the entire cottage really exceeded my expectations and that the photos don’t do it that much justice. The place was perfect for us - exploring the Lake District given what we had planned. The kitchen had everything we needed to self cater, and also has a microwave - plus a washing machine (which we needed as we got so muddy from outdoor hiking). There was also coffee, tea and milk provided, which was a lovely touch. Also there’s a cute living room to relax in. The bedroom was a good size and bathroom was very clean! The location was quiet, and despite the stormy weather, we barely registered it. Ann was a great host, and she communicated well! Thank you for the hospitality! :) We really appreciated it. Would highly recommend this place! There are zero cons that I can think of.

Pool Bank is a small hamlet close to excellent award winning pubs, and only 15 minutes from Bowness on Windermere and 15 minutes from the picturesque village of Cartmel.
  • William and Joanna’s place is furnished to a high quality with a very comfy bed and powerful shower that really add to the stay. The location is very tucked away which on the one hand makes for a very quiet and peaceful trip however does require 5-10 minute drive down a single track lane whenever you want to go anywhere. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to all I know

We had a wonderful long weekend to use this as a base to explore locally and around the lakes. The flat is clean, cosy with everything you need, including items for breakfast. We would definitely come back to visit and if you like animals, you will see the chickens roaming by the potter's yard and the cats may say hello! William was very friendly and helpful if you need any local advice. We love the lakes and can't wait to come back soon! Kerry & Ben

  • A really beautiful Air bnb in a picturesque location. Even though it's in a rural location it is very easy to find, with access to local pubs and plenty of walks. William was always around to help and was very friendly. I would recommend staying here.

  • Regardless of your arrival, Will is willing to ensure that you arrive at your destination safe and sound, with clear instructions to property. It was also helpful that he had temporarily left the lights on within the property in order to identify the home if you are arriving at night as it can be difficult to find. Will also has a handful of pets from Dogs, Cat, Hens and a cockerel, so if you love animals you can play with them. His home has a handful of treats in which you can endulge yourself in, chocolate, croissants, jam, tea, coffee, eggs, juices, butter and more. Will is also happily willing to provide you with some of the best places for viewing with clear instructions of how to get there. He is highly accommodating and had offered a meal and a stay his other rooms and if we needed anything he was more than available. Overall a 5/5

  • Cosy cottage and great location. Stayed with two friends and it was perfect for a short weekend getaway.

  • A beautiful cottage in an excellent location to go exploring the incredible Lake District. We stayed here for two nights as a base to go and explore. We didn’t know what to expect but we were so happy with not only the property but the proximity to the village which has a number of pubs to choose from as well as a shop, cafes and a big outdoor store. Karen was a great host who always checked in before, during and after a stay. We hope to return soon

    Max2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely property within walking distance of Hawkshead and all it’s amenities. Karen offers a stress free check in procedure, and is an attentive host. Her property supplies all you will require for a self catering break. The bedrooms are clean and comfy, the shower is excellent and the kitchen meets all requirements.

  • We stayed at Lavender Cottage in November to celebrate my dad's birthday - there were four of us and we booked the cottage for 5 so we could each have our own room. From the get go Karen was very speedy at answering our questions very speedily and clearly, including the location and was happy to amend our booking later to include a dog. We found the cottage cosy, comfortable and clean. It was a perfect home from home to explore the surrounding area. Karen was great at providing recommendations - we mixed up cooking in and eating out. The area is lovely - there's walks, lakes and interesting independent shops and fantastic pubs, etc. We found everyone really friendly and of course you're not too far from everything The Lakes has to offer. All in all, a great stay, and we hope we can start again in the future to get in some more walks!

    Michaela2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at the cottage . It was a booking for 5 so we had the whole cottage. Karen was very helpful and on hand if we needed anything. The cottage was clean and excellent location . Ideal for a group. Thank you Karen, we will definitely be back

    Tracey2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • We are extremely pleased with our stay at Lavender Cottage. When we arrived, Karen was not there but everything was there to greet us, the beds were made and a welcome guide was in the kitchen. The cottage is very comfortable, quiet and functional. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could have need. Hawkshead is very located to explore the south of the Lake District, near Ambleside, Coniston and Grizedale. The only negative points of our stay were that Karen shortened our booking a few days before the start and that the parking space was occupied by an unknown neighbour.

    Ella2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was lovely from us arriving at her cottage and even took the time to show us around the village and suggestions on where to eat and the things to do and see with the children. the cottage was lovely and cosy and had everything we needed. Karen even added a lovely touch as it was our anniversary and bought us a bottle of bubbly. the village is a lovely little place and would look at going back :)

***January to March, Discounts available, please ask.*** It is an easy walk from the train and bus station to our ground floor flat. You will have sole occupancy. It's tucked away in a secluded sunny spot, yet moments away from the vibrant cafe culture that is Windermere. Warm and clean we aim to make you feel welcome.
In a small purpose built block the flat has been refurbished recently and decorated to a high standard. It has one bedroom, guests have the entire flat for their use. There is a shared lawn area, enclosed by hedge and walls. There is an allocated space in the car-park. In the distance, the Coniston fells are an inspiring view, but its just as convenient to walk from the door. Lots of choices, including the lake shore , Orrest Head view point, much loved by Alfred Wainwright, the beech trees of Sheriffs Wood or the unspoilt School Knott tarn.
The mainline train station at Kendal town is called Oxenholme, Lake district. From there a local train service runs into Windermere. The popular cafe culture in Windermere contributes to a vibrant village. Booths is our local supermarket where you will find regional products. A Co-Op and Sainsburys are on the main streets. We are proud of the beautiful scenery, and if you don't want to drive, you will find lots of other means to explore. Walks from the door step take you uphill to small tarns, view points or down through woodland, past pretty streams to the lakes shore. Increasing numbers of accessible paths open up access to people of a fitness and abilities "Wild" and lake swimming is increasingly popular, you may even be joined by an otter! There are many historic houses and sites to visit locally reflecting the poets, craftspeople and artists who have lived here. Even if it rains, you will still find lots to do. The local cinema has a Wurlitzer organ and regular recitals. Visiting orchestras host concerts over summer. There are lots of activities throughout the year. We try to keep an up to date guide available. A new and very successful initiative last year was the winter German market. Our Christmas lights are strung between the streets, Father Christmas arrives by train in December, and local groups arrange regular events through the year. Windermere is well served by Churches. There is a Quaker meeting , and farther afield a Buddhist center, at both of which, people of all, or no faith are welcome.
  • Fiona and her husband Dave are the perfect hosts. Dave was waiting for us at the main street during check in. He escorted us to the house and that felt really special. He then showed us around the house and briefed us about how things work. About the apartment, it is very close to the railway station and the city centre. It's spacious and very well thought of. I loved the attention to detail. There is every amenity in the apartment that one can think of. The backyard is also lovely. In a nutshell, this is the best airbnb I've stayed at. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.

  • There are a lot of places to stay in Windermere but as I passed each one on my visit I thought to myself "It's not as good as Windermere4!" I stayed here with my 4 month old and it was PERFECT. Very walkable to groceries, food, the water, the boats, the train and buses. The accommodations are also set up very well for a baby. The door to the hallway leading to the bedroom is really great for adding an additional sound barrier during naps and such. Fiona was so sweet with the baby I nearly asked her to babysit. The last day I was there it was beautiful so I walked up Orrest Head and it was gorgeous. I was really glad I didn't miss those views! I'd imagine in the summer this is all quite busy but it was all very quiet in March.

    Emily2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Dave couldn’t have been better hosts - the property was clean, spacious, in a great location and just brilliant all round. Whether it was walking tips or electric candles in case of the storm, nothing was too much - and Fiona even offered a lift into Ambleside to save us a rainy wait for the bus! We’ll definitely be back again soon!

Rowan is a charming, self-contained apartment located in tranquil woodland in a traditional Lakeland house in the Lake District National Park. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach. Rowan is good for couples, solo adventurers and business travellers.
Rowan is located in a tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. The accommodation is on the first floor and consists of kitchen. dining and sitting room, double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (bath, wash hand basin and toilet), separate shower room and separate toilet with wash hand basin. A staircase leads to the apartment. There is a small, double bed settee in the sitting room and there is a camp bed in the apartment as well. I can provide bedding for the sofa bed but if you wish to use the camp bed as well please bring a sleeping bag. I charge £5.00 for the hire of the camp bed. A cot for a baby can be provided on request but please bring bedding for the cot (my children are in their mid 20s now!) There is a one-off charge of £5.00 for the hire of the cot. Rowan and our grounds are not 'child friendly', however. The apartment is on the first floor with a set of steep stairs leading to the entrance door and I do not provide child proof plug socket covers or cupboard locks. In addition there are a number of external hazards including a pond, stream and stone steps close to the apartment. Your child/children will need to be supervised at all times. Please note I charge a one off payment of £5.00 for the use of the cot or camp bed.
Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants, and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784' hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300' hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain's best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today's busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.

It was a bit cold at times, but the electric fire and blanket meant we were fine. I would definitely recommend staying here. The highlights for me were the exposed beams, round the corner sofa and extremely comfy bed.

Really special self catering property for two, close to wide open spaces far from Covid 19 where you’ll hardly see a soul. Sleeps two adults in utter luxury, Ada’s Retreat - set in an acre of sunny & private garden. 5 min walk to Lake Windermere and the village of Bowness - lovely shops, pubs restaurants. It’s always worth contacting us because we quite often offer a special rate at the last minute.
Really super open plan house - 2000sq feet all to yourselves! Ada’s Retreat is newly refurbished, spotlessly clean, superbly equipped, warm when needed, cool when needed, sunny, light, private and quiet.
Ada’s Retreat is in the centre of the most beautiful national park in the uk - and is now a World Heritage Site.
  • Beautiful and private which is walking distance into Bowness and great location to drive to anywhere. Lots of local information available from fantastic hosts

  • We have just returned from a short break at Ada’s Retreat and everything was just as described - better in fact. Lots of thoughtful touches to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. Great location with some nice walks from your doorstep and good amenities a very short walk away in Bowness. The weather was not as kind as it might have been but that didn’t stop us getting out and what a lovely place to return to! Definitely a property to return to. Thanks so much to Louise and Steve for being such fine hosts.

  • Had a fantastic long weekend staying at adas retreat! Louise was an excellent host, incredibly helpful and gave us very clear directions etc. And messaged to make sure we had arrived safely. We arrived to find the home beautifully clean and had been left wine and chocolates which were an unexpected treat. Such a fantastic location to explore the lakes from only 15 minutes away from Ambleside and plenty walks nearby. Everyday we looked forward to getting cosied up at the house, and didn’t get want to leave. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it incredibly highly for anyone else who is looking to spend time in the area.

  • This place is prettier than the pictures and really is worth the 5 Stars! all the handy bits you need and more. A very warm and welcoming home with plenty of space to mooch about if you're stuck indoors due to the weather! Honestly could not fault our stay at Ada's Retreat.

  • Absolutely beautiful, welcoming accommodation in a gorgeous setting. Five minutes walk into the town for all amenities. In a great location to set out exploring for the day. We had a very warm welcome from Louise who shared her local knowledge, providing us with detailed maps and information of some great walks to help us make the most of our quick visit to the lake district. Louise has thought of and provided everything you could possibly need in the cottage, the kitchen is fully equipped and has the things that can make a difference to cooking etc like oil, baking paper, glad wrap. Plenty of soap/dishwashing tablets etc to clean up and keep it all lovely and fresh. We had an amazing time in this cosy comfy cottage and highly recommend to stay here. Thank you Louise 🙂

Having stayed in the lakes many times and in many different luxury hotels, I can honestly say Ada’s retreat is up there for us as one of our most enjoyable stays. This place really is home from home, super clean, comfortable and welcoming. Louise is a fantastic host who had thought of every detail and amenity. On top of this, it is wonderfully located for exploring all of the Lake District, we will definitely be returning one day and cannot recommend it enough.
