We are 2 minutes walk from the river and can direct you to nearby hills and lochs where scenic walks can be enjoyed. There is a cosy, friendly pub just round the corner which serves lovely home cooked meals all day. They welcome "muddy boots, kids and dogs". We are dog friendly too so please feel free to bring your well behaved dog along.
Bedroom has an en-suite shower room and sauna (available for an extra charge). Bedroom is accessed up 5 wooden steps. The kitchenette has a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave and basic washing up facility (please note, there is no cooker). It also has a small table and chairs. We are situated on a quiet street but are set back so have very little traffic noise. The back garden overlooks fields and hills and, if we are lucky, has the occasional red squirrel hopping through. We have access to some beautiful walks with Glen Tanar and Loch Kinnord just a short drive away. We will be happy to point you in the direction of our favourite places and have Ordnance Survey maps for guests to borrow.
  • Gail was an incredible host for an amazing space! Modern and very clean amenities! The sauna was such a perk too! Gail even woke up early to bring us an ice scraper for our car wind screen! Will definitely return!

  • The Annex is a wonderful property and Gail was a superb host, she was on hand to give any tips on activities in the area and gave a very professional walk through of the property upon arrival. We felt comfortable and at home in the Annex, which was clean and felt very spacious. The sauna was an added treat, thanks again!

  • Super comfy bed, nice quiet room - I would have liked to have had more time to just chill there. Nice big shower, sauna is a real treat, and the kitchen area had everything I needed given most of my meals were with family staying in hotel nearby or at wedding. Gail was really accommodating.

  • The annex was stylish, sparkling clean, comfortable, and cosy. I very much enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend booking here.

Honey Cottage is a delightful semi-detached dwelling situated up a quiet lane in the village of Dinnet, in the heart of Royal Deeside. Built out of granite in the 19th century, Honey was originally used as a cottage to accommodate workers from the local estate. Nowadays, Honey Cottage offers clean and cosy accommodation to couples, providing an excellent base for exploration, adventure or relaxation.
Cosy, comfortable and petite, Honey Cottage is ideal for couples looking for a quiet break in a rural location. Furbished to a high standard throughout, Honey Cottage has an open plan kitchen/sitting room (with a wood burning stove) on the ground floor. The double bedroom and a bathroom (with a bath and an overhead shower) are located upstairs. The cottage has a clematis clad patio area to the back, with seating and a barbecue. Rent is inclusive of all linen and towels. For the hill walker, the hills of Deeside start practically at the front door! For the skier, Glenshee and The Lecht ski centres are nearby. Other activities available locally include golfing, fishing, shooting, gliding and pony trekking.
Dinnet is a very peaceful and small village. The village has a hotel which serves evening meals and drinks (reservations may be required). Shops and other local services, are available in the nearby villages of Aboyne and Ballater.
  • Fantastic cottage with tremendous amenities - it really was like staying in someone's home! Great locality - Deeside was familiar to me from growing up in Aberdeen, but it was good to stay locally and not travel back every night. Communication with Alison was great - we stayed clear of her cat as I'm allergic to them, but both of us survived!

Loads of information about the local area and recommendations for walks, sight seeing and more. Warm and cosy cottage which was great value for money too. Julie was more than helpful when booking and quick to respond to messages. Cannot recommend enough we will definitely be back!!

  • Cosy little cottage perfect for our weekend trip. Location was beautiful, bed was comfy, quiet area that’s so convenient for hillwalking in the Cairngorms (10 min drive to Ballater, 30 to Braemar). We had a great stay and loved that we were able to bring our dog to enjoy it too!

    Sarah2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a super property and exactly as described. Very good value for money, clean, and really well kitted out. It is very well located for exploring Deeside, and is a great choice for any length of stay. Communication with Julie was very good, and I was made to feel very welcome. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay next time I visit the area. Highly recommended.

  • Very simple but also very comfortable and convenient for tourism or sprot

    Gérard2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location to explore the East of the Cairngorms, although if you don't mind driving the West side is only an hour and a half away. The view from the cottage is beautiful, there was still snow on the peak, and watching the rabbits in the next door field was a delight. We didn't meet Julie but communication via email was good and as everything was as described there were no problems. For me a comfortable bed is a must and happily the bed at the cottage is great. I highly recommend this place.

  • Charming cosy cottage renovated to very high standard. Very comfortable and well equipped. Most helpful hosts.

    M2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here in large part because we needed a place that was within easy striking distance of both Aboyne and Tarland, which it is. We did not realise when booking how really lovely the immediate surroundings are! There are a couple of beautiful lochs that you can easily walk to and around; and the 'Vat' (a massive 'pothole' left by glacial melt waters 10,000 years ago), a beautiful Celtic/Pictish cross 1,200 years old, by the lakeside, and so on. (Nearby Tarland is likewise good for walking.) The cottage itself is spacious, immaculately kept, quiet, and comfortable in every way. No complaints whatever. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Linda2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The home is very comfortable, well-appointed, and Steve and Yvonne made us feel right at home. The location is beautiful with lovely trails in walking distance while also a great base for exploring plenty more that Deeside has to offer.

Aboyne is a lovely town and not far away from the Cairngorms National Park where you can go for a hike. Pandy even showed me around in Aberdeen, which is also a beautiful city. Close to great views and hikes, quiet and peaceful, this self-contained mini chalet is great for solo or couple adventurers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat. Glamping at its best, its not for the 5-star brigade. Clean + cosy with its own kitchen and bathroom – accessible from outside, adding to a feeling of being in the wild, yet retaining modern comforts you’re sure to enjoy your stay in this one-of-a-kind home. Rentals of one month or more from £495-£895 pcm!
Den of Allachlade (or Den of Marmalade as we like to call it - long story) has been "mine" (Vicki) since 1993 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Jessica. It has morphed through several stages, survived divorce, accommodated therapy, workshops, all sorts of weird and wonderful events and has seen the transformation of many beautiful folk. It really has a special vibe to it, a Scottish twist on a Laurel Canyon type commune! It somehow manages to be family home, therapy center and base for travelers, professional nomads, volunteers, holidaymakers, spiritual seekers... all in one go. Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad. Last but not least Felix the cat. And… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. As for me, I am an author - 2nd book coming up! Hypnotherapist, NLP-er, etc, etc. I am an active meditator and Sanyasin. I work mostly from home and as little as possible in Aberdeen :) If you would like to join our motley crew, we take paying guests, part paying guests (house-sitters), karmic yogis and woofers, just get in touch! When we are at home, we love to provide therapy and teaching as optional extras go ahead and enquire if you’d like to know more. We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need. In the Fairy Penthouse you benefit from being totally detached from the main house and having your own access to the bedroom via the garden. The room has a super comfy double cabin bed and TV. In the nice weather you can lie in bed looking on to the garden and eat dinner on your own wee balcony The shower room and kitchen are downstairs accessed via outside from the drive of the main house. Kitchen has a mini fridge, microwave, 4 plate hob, George Foreman Grill, washing machine (shared with the main house), kettle and toaster. Let me know if you want a table and chairs for outside.
There are river walks a stones throw from the property, and plenty of longer woodland and hill walks and stone circles to see in the area. For the sporty, golf courses abound, and water skiing is about a 5 minute drive away. Alternatively pop along to the new outdoor swimming pool at Stonehaven, a beautiful harbour town along the East coast not far from Dunnotar Castle. In August and September there are several highland games taking place in the area.

It was freezing outside, but the cabin was nice and toasty, had all facilities for showering and cooking, and was very quiet. There are some cute cafes around Aboyne too, and lots of nice walking trails. Very nice for a quick getaway when you need a moment to yourself! Thank you!

The cottage has two bedrooms and is the perfect space for four people, however there is a comfortable double sofa bed in the living room that can accommodate a further two people. The cottage has an open plan living and kitchen area. Logs and kindling are provided for the wood burning stove in the living room. As well as the wood burning stove there are electric heaters in the living room, bedrooms and conservatory to keep the cottage cosy. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils and crockery etc and there is a dishwasher, under-counter fridge with ice box, microwave and a washing machine in the cupboard. The water is heated by an emersion system and the bathroom has a bath and an electric shower. There is a patio at the cottage with a picnic bench, BBQ and chiminea so you can enjoy the outdoor space and the meadow is perfect for the kids to play. Dogs are welcome by arrangement and horses can sometimes be accommodated locally. There are no fences at the cottage which backs onto the forest so the whole Cairngorm National Park is yours to explore! Details on the best paths and walks and what's on in the area and is provided.

  • Wow, what a fantastic place to escape to, 2 nights simply wasn't enough to enjoy this wonderful cottage and the peaceful surroundings. We loved spending time by the stove in the evenings and waking up with each day to see all the birds and animals in the garden. We were especially lucky to have clear night's under a blanket of stars and caught some amazing shooting stars. The directions were perfect and Holly left us some fresh eggs which was a great touch! Wonderful host and can't wait to have the chance to stay again in the future!

  • This cottage is beautifully presented, clean and cozy. The location is perfect for exploring the great outdoors, bird and squirrel watching from the sun room was a great start to each day. Would highly recommend this accommodation!

  • Very nice location, peaceful and quiet place.

  • Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful location. Sun room is ideal for wildlife watching and the wood burner was great our dog particularly liked it. Local area has loads of great walks and would recommend Loch Kinord and Glen Tanar Estate in particular. We will definitely return in the future.

  • The location of the cottage is very special in the woods with regular sightings of red squirrel, deer, and lots of birds from the comfort of the conservatory. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need. The wood burning stove made it very cosy in the evenings. There are some great walks straight from the cottage.

    Finlay2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a nice peaceful place!

    Amy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful location to get away from it all. Nestled in the woods, the cottage has a remote feel, with plenty of options to go wandering in the beautiful countryside right on your doorstep. A haven for wildlife, it’s nice just sitting indoors watching the red squirrels, woodpeckers and other hungry birds all making the most of the feeders on the front lawn. Lovely and cosy in the winter too with the wood burner and close by many of the best attractions of Royal Deeside.

    Jamie2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were great. We loved the antique furniture in the conservatory. Also the binoculars were wonderful for spotting wildlife and the stars on clear evenings! Thank you for hosting us in that lovely part of the Cairngorms. We will keep it in mind for the future.

This beautiful self-contained annex has been described as a small hotel. Creatively designed to give its narrow shape a ship like quality it is clean, cosy & close to great views & hikes, offering a peaceful retreat for quiet souls & country lovers. Ideal for 2, with potential to sleep 3 - a couple & child or 3 close friends (the shower is inside the bedroom) & the 3-bed set up inhibits the living space. Kitchen is & fully equipped & there's lots of choice for eating out. Enquire for long term.
It somehow manages to be family home, therapy centre and base for travellers, professional nomads, volunteers, holidaymakers, spiritual seekers... all in one go. Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad and… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. As for me, I am an author - 2nd book coming up! Hypnotherapist, NLP-er, etc, etc. I am an active meditator and Sanyasin. I work mostly from home and as little as possible in Aberdeen :) If you would like to join our motley crew, we take paying guests, part paying guests, house-sitters, karmic yogis and woofers, just get in touch! When we are at home, we love to provide therapy and teaching as optional extras go ahead and enquire if you’d like to know more. We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need. In the East Annex you benefit from your personal porch with a small table and chairs which opens into a lovely seating area, which leads into the well-equipped kitchen. There's a lovely sunroom with a window-seat, strewn with comfy cushions and the double bedroom has en-suite shower inside on open plan. The window-seat area can work as a make-up single bedroom, and we can also put up a fold-down bed in the porch seating area or you can use the red chaise lounge, however, we have no window covering there, so a no-no for anyone who needs blackout! Please be aware that the main house will be rented out over Winter to guests also, so please be aware of noise levels so as not to disturb other guests.
Aboyne is a quiet village. Enough so that in the morning it's quite common to see grazing deer in the fields or even in our garden. Have a look at the guide to see the local points of interest (there's way more than in here). It's a great place to come and relax, far away from the hustle and bustle of cities. Aboyne (Scots: Abyne, Scottish Gaelic: Abèidh) is a village on the edge of the Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on the River Dee, approximately 26 miles (42 km) west of Aberdeen. It has a swimming pool at Aboyne Academy, all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green and is home to the oldest 18 hole Golf course on Royal Deeside. Aboyne Castle and the Loch of Aboyne are nearby. Outdoor pursuits include golf, walking, cycling, and gliding from the airfield just outside the village. Aboyne has become popular with gliding enthusiasts from Britain and Europe due to its suitable air currents (due to the surrounding terrain). The airfield has two parallel tarmac runways running east-west, a webcam and small weather-monitoring centre on its premises.
  • Great location; very nice and helpful host: great and clean accommodation.

  • Vicki is a warm and welcoming host and will give you local tips for things like places to eat if needed. The accommodation is the perfect size for two and has all the facilities that you could need! Thanks for a lovely stay!

  • A very good value stay in Aboyne. We slept two adults comfortably, one on the double bed and one on the couch with a mattress in the front room.

  • Hospitable host, quiet and private annex to the host's house. The host is welcoming and has a set of strict houserules that work very well to make everyone's life easy. The sitting area of the annex has a window to the host's lounge, so that area is not completely private. Be aware that the host occasionally needs access to use the washing machine in the annex. Good value for money for a stay in Aboyne.

  • Amazing place, cosy and lovely perfect for solo travelers exploring around Aberdeenshire nice places from castles and Lochs. Vicki is amazing host and her place super cool. To all my friends and those who like to visit Aboyne and discover tremendous places in Aberdeenshire, Vicki’s place is highly recommended.

  • We had everything we needed and felt right at home. We were unsure about getting around by public transport, so we were pleasantly surprised to find the bus stops right out front! Some walks nearby would be easier to access by car, but we found plenty to explore. We would absolutely recommend staying here.

    Lydia2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed overnight for a wedding. The east annex is a lovely little space. Everything you could want and we’ll thought out. Vicki is a warm and welcoming host.

  • The small appartment next to Vicki’s house was exactly what we expected : clean, cosy and comfy ! Vicki was very helpful and she even made a table appear just like magic. Perfect to explore this side of Cairngorms !

  • The cottage was wonderful. Great in every way. But the bit that made it better than anywhere else I have ever stayed was the way the family history of the cottage was shared. It made the place come alive, both now and back through the generations. I loved that - and I loved that the hosts were willing to share it with us. Thank you!

  • A fantastic cozy cottage in a great location for walking and exploring towns like Braemar and Ballater. Big garden for our dog and the kitchen had lots of amenities so was enjoyable cooking. We had a wonderful stay here we will definitely be back.

  • We had the BEST time at Holmhead! Looking for a cosy highland getaway for the week, we were delighted to find this little gem. It’s immensely cosy with it’s log fire and stonework and the history of the owners and the cottage are displayed in plenty of cool photos through it’s life. At the end of a long day of walking in the fresh air, getting back and putting a fire on was lovely! The location was excellent for exploring the Cairngorms National Park (we drove a lot and did a lot of walking at each stop). It’s a few minutes drive to Burn O’Vat which is well worth a visit with several lovely trails to walk and if you are willing to drive further afield then within an hour you can find stunning scenery at every turn. Highlights for us included walking the Linn of Dee, driving Tomintoul pass, mooching around Balmoral and seeing the salmon leaping upstream at Edzell. Finding the cottage was easy, it’s on the edge of a small village, it’s a short drive to Aboyne where there are local amenities, or there’s Banchory a little further on. The cottage is surrounded by woodland and was really peaceful, lots of bunnies hopping about. If you go and visit and get a clear night, be sure to head outside after dark and look up at the stars!

  • Our stay at Holmwood Cottage was absolutely fantastic. The house was amazing and the surrounding large grounds were ideal for my 5yr old to run around. It was wonderful to experience staying in such an old cottage (but with some home comforts!). Ideal for some peace and tranquility but close to many towns and tourist sites. We only stayed a few nights but felt very homely and I was sad to leave but I hope to return again in the future.

  • The cottage is really lovely and cosy. The location is great in a quiet and peaceful place surrounded by woods, and it's nice to observe the rabbits and birds outside.

Once a working water mill, this traditional granite property is now a charming home with bags of character and beautiful views over the fields, forests and hills of Royal Deeside. With direct access to the Tarland Way walking and cycling track, plus hunting and fishing opportunities on its doorstep and skiing at The Lecht and Glenshee less than an hour away, Coull Mill is enviably situated for outdoor enthusiasts all year round.
The main accommodation comprises: a large double bedroom with king-sized bed and en-suite shower room; a twin-bedded room; a generous second shower room; well-equipped eating kitchen and cosy upstairs sitting room. There is also a delightful cabin in the garden with a double bed and its own WC. Both buildings are insulated to a high standard and the mill benefits from under-floor heating, keeping guests warm and cosy even in the coldest Aberdeenshire winter.

  • Can’t recommend this place enough, excellent accommodation in a beautiful location with amazing hosts, I look forward to our next visit.

  • I have nothing bad to say about our stay at Coull Mill. The place itself was immaculate, warm and so inviting. Our hosts were brilliant and kept us well informed about our stay. Pictures don’t do this wonderful house justice, so much effort has gone into making it a home from home. My family had such a great time here that we are thinking of a summer visit at some point. Great value for money, everything we needed was in the house from extra towels to plenty of kitchen essentials. I can’t recommend this place highly enough, go see for yourself and experience a wonderful house in an amazing part of Scotland. Christine, Martin and family x

  • We had a wonderfully relaxing stay in the Mill. Beautifully decorated with everything you could wish for. Delicious scones on arrival, beautiful forest walks & Stuart & Val had put out a Xmas tree for us to decorate as our own Xmas away from home. A great place to stay & explore the Highlands.

Royal Deeside has something for everyone from hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, and horseriding to whisky trails, castles and Highland hospitality. There are several gold courses in the area and even an opportunity to try gliding at the local Gliding Club.
  • Lovely house in a great location for escaping to the countryside.

  • Beautiful house in a lovely location. Lots of space for the 7 of us who came to stay. Great kitchen for cooking and eating a full Christmas dinner, and to play board games afterwards. We had a wonderful second Christmas and this house was perfect. Thank you :)

  • We really enjoyed our stay in an old schoolhouse. The place was clean and tidy. The house has large bedrooms, fantastic kitchen and an amazing garden.

  • Emma was very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help us. I particularly appreciated a lovely christmas tree on arrival and her persistence at searching for a watch my son had lost until it was found. The Old School house proved to be a perfect base for our short stay - it was lovely and spacious, and the wood stove and pool table proved to be a real bonus. It was such a beautiful location and we had excellent local walks and drives which added much to our stay.

    Chris2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Emma’s place, she was always on hand should we ever need anything, not that we ever did because her place is so good! We hope to be back again soon!

  • This is a beautiful airy and stylish house. Lots of room yet nice and cosy. Duvets and sheets were amazingly soft and warm. Boys loved the pool table, kitchen was very well kitted out. Brilliant big bath for soaking away those aches after climbing a local Munro x

One of the best views you will find on Royal Deeside. Walk into the welcoming kitchen with its dining table for up to 12, the room opens up to an oak floored salon & family room looking on to the fields and valley beyond. Through the patio doors there is a huge area of decking where you can enjoy nature at its best, while turning the BBQ and enjoy your evening G+T. The 2nd public room with office facilities & a comfy bed settee & the master bedroom with patio doors are also south- facing.
The views from this home are unblocked and unrivalled. Hay fields with regular visiting deer and pheasants lead to the River Dee and the hills beyond. The decking area is a superb entertaining space and the garden has a newly built, fairy lit, pergola area to enjoy a fire and a drink in the evening. The main house also has 3 additional self contained units available separately if required for larger group bookings, one which is accessible via a locked door directly from the house please ask for availability.
  • Vicki’s place has stunning views and a very special ‘ambience’. It was spacious and light but also warm and cosy. We found everything we needed, the place was very clean and we had a great holiday in Aboyne. Food at The Boat is recommended!

Situated in a beautiful pine forest on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park, Blelack House provides a unique stay in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The apartment occupies the whole first floor of a historic Victorian mansion and is the perfect base to explore Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms. The property has been sympathetically updated so that each room combines original Victorian features and antique furniture with modern facilities.
Blelack House has a rich and interesting history which dates back to the Jacobite Rebellion. The original house which occupied the site was burned to the ground in retribution after the Battle of Culloden. The house we see today was rebuilt in 1882 and used as a Victorian hunting lodge. The mansion house was then turned into apartments in the 1970s and is now a thriving smallholding. Royal Deeside is the jewel in Scotland's crown and has something for everyone, from hiking, biking and horseriding to whisky, castles and Highland hospitality.
  • A fantastic apartment in a stunning location. 5 star hospitality - 5 stars all around. Will be going back.

  • Great venue, very quiet, plenty of space and fantastic views, a perfect score :-)

    Razor2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Holly. Blelack House is truly magical. The interior and furniture are perfect for the house. The location is stunning. Highlights for us has to be feeding the horses, sheep and chickens, reading a book with a wine listening to the kids play the piano next to the fire. The space to explore and of course the fresh eggs for breakfast! We all came away on a relaxed high and cant wait to come back! Alanah and Family

    Andrew2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Holly was a wonderful host, very friendly and helpful, and even provided us with fresh eggs for breakfast! The apartment was a wonderful place to stay, deep in the countryside with beautiful views and surroundings we wished we had more time to explore. It was perfect for relaxing after a long day walking, very comfortable, cosy and with all the mod cons despite having amazing antique decor! Would definitely recommend.

    Kelsey2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this house is amazing! An old estate out in the countryside, if you want something with a vintage flair, this is definitely the place for you. There were only two of us staying in the house and it was a bit big for us (a bit spooky at night all in the dark!); however it was so cool sleeping in a four-poster bed. Also amazingly clean (how do you keep such giant curtains so clean!?) Bonuses were the wood fire-place, the booklet of recommendations from Holly’s daughter, and Holly’s chickens! She left some grain out for us so we could feed them every morning, and also gave us some of the hen’s eggs to make breakfast with. Such a sweet touch. Random sweet story: When we went into Ballater we met an older gentleman and told him where we were staying, and he told us that the old estate owner used to hold a Christmas party for the bordering towns every year. His mother got the doll that was at the top of the tree one year, and it’s still in his family today. It’s so nice staying at a place that has such rich local history!

    Gillian2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat it was to stay at Holly's place. I saw the terrific pictures but had no idea how comfortable I felt as soon as I walked through the door. Many antiques throughout the place. It is a very large space. The reception room is immense and so it the master bedroom. The large kitchen and bathroom are both updated. I only slept in the bed in the master bedroom and can say that it is very comfortable for me. I slept very soundly. Communication with Holly was excellent. She grew up in the area and can offer advice on what to see and do. I would definitely return. It was a pleasure to stay in this historical home.

    Philip2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay. Nice and close to Cairngorms park. Nice building, spacious and everything is there.

Set in the heart of the tranquil village of Aboyne a fully renovated, pink granite built , well lit flat on two levels looks over Aboyne Green . There are castles and whisky trails in abundance within the immediate area. Easy access to walks and bike trails.Festivals and Highland Games every other week in the summer.
This is a spacious, bright room with fitted wardrobe and a full length mirror and wardrobes. The bed , according to my guests , is very comfortable and big! The situation of the house offers perfect access to local walks through glens and forests , bike rides, the river Dee, the Coo Cathederal and all the local amenities. Please help yourself to continental breakfast downstairs in the kitchen dining area. Please advise of any food intolerance or allergies and I can make provision for this. There is a single room and another double room . Potentially there could be 5 people staying over night , including me in the flat, so 6 of us in total! There is a SHARED upstairs bathroom and downstairs toilet. Note : the shower is in the midst of renovation ! At the moment there is a shower cubicle which is quite confined! If you are broad or very tall and prefer showering then this is not the place for you! There is alternatively, a luxurious long bath ,and reasonably broad , for you to enjoy! You will be given your own key so you can come and go at your own leisure. There is space for one bike to be stored inside and two in an outside shed. There is a sun filled potted garden to eat your breakfast in if you would like ! ! Please note that in order to protect the sound space of my other guests this room is not suitable for children. Also in order to protect the sleep of other guests I ask heavy snorers not to request bookings!
The neighbourhood is quiet with many historical buildings forming the housing structure . The village is built around the Green with a square central to the shopping area that used to be a station for the railway line from Aberdeen to Ballater.

  • Alice's place was wonderful. Alice was a great host, meeting us at the apartment and leaving thoughtful extras (such as toys for the kids). The apartment itself is spacious and airy and just lovely. Good location , close to many surrounding areas of interest. The neighbours were also lovely - friendly and helpful. There is a nice park virtually downstairs and at the end of the park there is a fab country pub - The Boat Inn. The food and the atmosphere was so good there we went back both nights and would have returned again had we stayed in Aboyne longer. Great stay Xx

Cute & quirky self-contained studio offering a peaceful retreat close to great hikes. It has a comfy double and the floor space is tiny with only 2 chairs at the table inside. The wet room is small & kitchen facilities basic but idyllically beautiful, quiet & peaceful. t really depends on what you want, but there are few places this serene and peaceful and with your own area of decking and outdoor dining. You are also welcome to enjoy my garden.
Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad, and… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. In the Garden Studio you benefit from being the most southerly facing room giving you a feeling of total detachment with only the hills to look back at you. You have your own access via the garden. The room has a super comfy double cabin bed and TV. In the nice weather you can lie in bed looking out and eat dinner on your own area of decking. The wet room is very small but sufficient as a basic shower and toilet and kitchenette just manages to squeeze everything in that you need to cook a proper meal.
  • We had a lovely stay in the little garden studio. it was perfect for our weekend away and had all we needed. the view into the cairngorms is lovely, and there was many nice walks nearby - we would recommend the standing stone circle, burn o vat, and glen tanar national park. there is also an earth house nearby from the bronze age that you can drive to and walk into. We were a little under-whelmed by the local leaflets of things to do nearby provided in the studio - the leaflets were all quite old and also of things that were far north, we ended up adding our own found in a local pub. The spider on a bicycle cafe was nice, as was at 'the sign of the black face sheep'. The extra duvet was needed at night as it was freezing, and even during the day in the studio we had to wear layers of jumpers and scarves to keep warm. "

  • The Garden studio was a lovely, comfortable, peaceful place to stay for the night, I loved the style of the cabin studio, the terrace and the view. It was just great to pull back the curtains in the morning (after a very good rest) and let the light flood in and see the fields and forested hills. It was a tight space, but that was clear on the description and I found it very cosy. I would definitely come back and stay for more than a night :)

  • Wonderful little private guest cottage. It’s petite but well designed and very functional. Perfect location for exploring the highlands, fishing in the Dee, or just relaxing.

  • I can't rate Auchintoul highly enough. It provides the perfect Highland retreat, and a great base to explore Aboyne and Royal Deeside. We were blown away by the amenities of the house - really spacious accommodation, with no expense spared with fittings etc. We'd go back in a heartbeat !!

Each room is lovely and bright with stunning views of the River Dee or the perfectly maintained lawn and flower gardens. What a treat! We didn’t want to leave! Large double/twin ensuite room in imposing Victorian Tower House set in 2.5 acres in the centre of the small village of Tarland, on the edge of Cairngorm National Park. Beautiful walks from the house, and easy access to all the delights of Royal Deeside - castles, distilleries, Balmoral, walking, cycling and mountain biking.
Balmuir is a traditional granite house with Tower House extension. Your large double or twin bedroom overlooks the walled garden as does the ensuite shower room. Breakfast is served in the conservatory which opens onto your private patio and you have use of a large comfortable sitting room with wood-burning stove, should the weather turn cold. There is ample parking in the driveway, storage for bikes/skis in outdoor locked sheds, and outside tap with hose for washing equipment. Tarland has a village shop, a chemist, post office/toy shop and 2 pubs, one of which serves food, all within a few minutes walk from the house. The Aberdeen Arms pub is well known for it's traditional music sessions every Tuesday evening.
Tarland is set in the Howe of Cromar, a ring of hills on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park. There are numerous walks from the house that take advantage of the beautiful views in the area. There are mountain bike trails in the woods nearby and Tarland golf club is right over the hedge from Balmuir. It is a Tom Morris designed 9 hole course and has very reasonable green fees and very good availability. Further afield, there are castles, distilleries, gardens, and more challenging walking/hiking/climbing routes available in abundance. The Commercial Hotel serves very good pub meals, and the Aberdeen Arms, is well known for its traditional music sessions every Tuesday evening.
  • An amazing, spacious property, surrounded by colourful garden in a beautiful village location. Linda spent time with us to talk about the area and to advise on where to eat the one evening we were there. Comfortable beds, nice big bathroom and a delicious breakfast!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Linda's beautiful castle home in Tarland. The location is very peaceful and quiet, within easy walking distance of the town centre where we had a very nice dinner. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with garden views and a cosy king-sized bed. We were even welcomed with home-baked treats! Breakfast was delicious and healthy, with a nice selection of fresh fruit. It was lovely to meet and chat with Linda, who was friendly and welcoming from the moment we booked. This B&B is a great base for anyone visiting the Tarland area - highly recommended!

  • Fantastic place with a lovely host in Linda. The room is perfect as always with so much room and a lovely big en-suite. Couldn't be any better. The dogs are perfect too.

  • Our one night stay at Linda's lovely little castle in Tarland was perfect. Due to storms, we arrived later than expected so Linda kindly contacted the local pub (a true treat) to ensure that they kept the kitchen open. When we finally got in, we were warmly welcomed! The room was great, the bed was comfortable, snacks and treats were kindly waiting for us in our room and then a wonderful breakfast greeted us the next morning. Our only regret was that we only were able to stay one night!! A great area to visit and this place is the perfect place to do so!

  • Linda’s castle home is unique, central and quiet. Great for relaxing. She provides a healthy breakfast and she is a very sociable host. It was a great location central to many activities from the coast to the highlands.

  • Tarland is a beautiful place - literally a hidden gem. Linda’s place is very central but when you’re there, it feels like you’re a million miles from the hustle and bustle. The breakfasts were fantastic and there was lots of information about local places to visit. We loved this place! Highly recommended!
