  • I am a travel nurse and we stayed here for 3.5months while I worked in Fort Bragg. (About a 40min commute.) The spot is nice with full hookups and a porch, which is a nice bonus. We parked here with 1st a 32ft travel trailer and truck and then upgraded to a 38ft class A motorhome and both fit well. We travel with 4 cats, a dog, two kids, a motorcycle, an extra vehicle and a small trailer and this space accommodated all of these things. Joel and Pam were both very flexible, helpful hosts and helped us quickly with anything we needed. The walk up and down the property through the redwoods is beautiful and the small creek was a lovely sound. Chickens and goats live on the property (in a separate pen) and the kids enjoyed seeing them and playing with them. There are fruit trees we were able to eat from which was a fun added bonus. There is a small convenient store with gas, air, and some groceries less than a mile away. (Cash only.) There is also a post office in the same location as the store which worked well for us since we stayed for so long and was able to get mail here. The local school had a playground that was a 2 min. drive away that we were able to use as well. We enjoyed a great surfing beach in Casper (30 min. drive) and lots of beach combing time all along the Mendocino coast in Mendocino, Caspar, Fort Bragg, and Little River. We enjoyed our stay here, and would stay here again if we were ever come back to the Northern CA coast.

  • We had a great time! It was a last minute reservation for our two day trip to Fort Bragg. The place met our budget, and we had the privacy that we needed. It was further from town but it provided us with a scenic ride every day that we certainly enjoyed. Waking up surrounded by all the greenery around was fantastic. Nice touch with the porch, chairs and the magazine of the local stores and attractions to get us started. Joel and Pamela are great hosts. Will definitely stay there again!

  • This is a lovely peaceful and serene location. Nestled in the forest but close enough for a quick trip to Mendocino and the coast. I used the RV hookup to charge my Tesla and it worked great (EVs require an adapter so BYO). I even woke up to a doe and her fawn nibbling on the trees outside my car.

Situated in our beautiful garden, this cozy little redwood Shanti cabin is a 30 second walk to the bathroom, 12 minutes from Mendocino village, and other attractions, is equipped with double/full mattress, has electricity, bath towels, small table, two chairs and a oil heater. Self check in, just in case we are out. The Sunlit is directly to the right, enter through the garden gate which is to the west of the parking, you will see the cabin with the purple door. Key is in the cabin.
One of two Shanti cabins situated in our garden; small, cozy and private. This one, beautifully built out of salvaged redwood, is facing south right in to the beautiful garden and has great afternoon sun on the deck. Check-in from 2pm-10pm, check-out 12pm. Self check is sometimes necessary after 10pm.
We're 4 miles inland in the "banana belt" as it's been dubbed. The fog tends to hang just out of reach of this cozy zone.
  • This place is very cute- on a property with other little cottages. Steve the host is great. Bed was one of the best sleeps I’ve had. Just an FYI, the bathrooms are detached from the sleep space but we didn’t mind- the whole little farm is pretty magical

    Lauren2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Down to earth home and dude. Such care put into all of the aspects of home. Steve's hands went into a look of the work in the Shanti and it is clear to see he is a thoughtful caretaker of his land and home. Would book again, I look forward to returning sometime soon.

    Alexander2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s place was perfect! The little shanti I stayed in was very clean and cozy and made for a relaxing stay. The hosts were phenomenal and very welcoming!

  • I came to Pegasus Farms with the intention of spending a weekend alone writing in a cozy space surrounded by natural beauty. I did do some writing and I was surrounded by natural beauty, but other things ended up happening too, including dance party, steak grilling, farming, hiking through a pygmy forest, music jamming, deep conversations with lovely humans, hanging out with ridiculously sweet cats and a chatty duck, experiencing some fine dining, and reading pearls of wisdom from a book called, The Best Advice Ever Given, which was on the bookshelf of my shanti. It was a magical weekend spent with some beautiful people (i.e., Steve and Anne-Marie). I will definitely be going back. Some useful information - I was glad I brought some rain boots that I could easily slip on and off to walk to the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning. It does get chilly at night, so bring warm clothing. Other than that, just be open to the magic of this beautiful place:)

Not a flushing toilet :) Please see picture for reference. We suggest guests arrive before sunset as the forest gets very dark at night. There are insects too ... :)
The Redwood Forest Camping Hut is set in the woods with no visible neighbours. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. For any provisions we have a great market (The Elk Store - closes 6:00pm) with sandwiches, cheeses, a great selection of wine and beer, and all other main essentials. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. --- Mendocino - 25 min (14.6 miles) Elk Town - 11 min (5.4 miles) The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.
  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

  • Such a magical experience! Rob & Elsa put so much thought and detail into this space. It felt so lovely to spend our gals weekend, gazing out to the redwoods, and breathing in that fresh air! What a nice escape from the city... a true gem! Thank You.

  • Thank you so much for letting us stay in your masterpiece!! Your home was a dream and it was better than our wildest dreams. So many personal touches and everything was so intentional. I was blown away. Such a great place to stay!

  • Rob & Elsa’s place is gorgeous with detail-oriented style. We loved the coziness and comfortability of the space. The bedroom was a dream and we really enjoyed the chance to disconnect from our phones and computers!

  • Rob and Elsa have really created a little piece of paradise in their Camping Hut! It's so beautifully designed, and there are a lot of thoughtful touches. My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful weekend! We hope to come back in the future!

    Julie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a little slice of heaven! And the little details that Rob and Elsa thought of just add a little magic to their beautiful cabin.

    Hedvy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. I felt totally off the grid (only nature sounds, trees, and the stars) while surrounded by thoughtful amenities and stylish design. I loved taking a forest bath and the hut couldn’t have been cozier on a chilly night. And don’t get me started on the playlist that greeted me; basically, they have great taste in every respect. :)

    Sally2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had such a great time at Rob and Elsa’s hut. It was a such a great way to enjoy nature and get some rest and relaxation. We were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do around Elk as well. Highly recommend a trip to Rob and Elsa’s!

This cabin is located on one of Mendocino's most beautiful properties. It is just ten minutes to the coastal town of Mendocino and is on 12 acres of giant redwoods and open meadows. Spend your days at the beach or hiking in the the redwoods! *Please note that the property had unexpected maintenance a few years ago so which is why we had to cancel some reservations and rehome guests in our studio in town
This cabin is located on one of Mendocino's most beautiful properties. It is just ten minutes to the coastal town of Mendocino and is on 12 acres of giant redwoods and open meadows. Spend your days at the beach or hiking in the the redwoods! The cabin is located on 12 acres of old growth redwoods and beautiful open sunny meadows. There is an giant swing just steps from the cabin and hiking trails right off the property. Hot tub, hiking trails, swings, hammock We like to make sure our guests have their privacy. The giant redwoods, the closeness to the ocean. There is a bus between the town of Mendocino and the town of Fort Bragg. Please make sure you use our directions as posted on site, to get here. If you use your GPS it will likely send you the back way which is very windy and although it is a few miles shorter it will actually take you longer to get here.

  • The place is quite quaint, the location is really central and right in the heart of town. We ended at the property given that our previous reservation at one of their other properties got cancelled 2 days before our trip, but with all things considered D&R were accommodating and were able to place us in this place which we ended up liking too! Really easy to access and you can come and go as you place as it has its own separate entrance.

    Arthur2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful secluded cabin surrounded by forest. Comfortable and quiet. Highly recommended if you are seeking seclusion yet still very close to the coast and amenities.

    Steven2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is the perfect quiet getaway! It's a great place to cozy up and watch movies. My husband and I came here for one of our honeymoon destinations. Unfortunately, we didn't have wifi so we downloaded movies, podcasts, and music while in town to be able to enjoy them at the cabin. This cabin is close to a lot of beautiful, scenic locatiions. We enjoyed good food in Mendocino / Fort Bragg, horse back riding at Ricochet Ridge Ranch, and exploring at Glass Beach. Arrive for your first time during the day if you're scared of the dark like me...

  • Great place and very nice hosts. Loved our stay. We want to go back again soon.

    Sarah2016-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, a wonderful experience. The cabin is adorable and on the most beautiful property. It is very comfortable (the electric heater really does it's job). It feels very isolated and secluded all while being just a 10 min drive to town!

    Lucia2016-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful respite during a particularly hectic time. My dog and I loved staying in this lovely little cabin and the property is stunning. The hot tub was perfect and the view from the hot tub was divine. I would love to return soon! Thank you.

    Cara2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome little place! Super quiet and plenty of forrest for the dogs to check out. There isn't a stove so we brought a little backpacking stove and made breakfast at a picnic table out on the property. The heater warmed the place right up and the shower had plenty of hot water. We never got to connect with the hosts, we were out most of the time, but Daphinie made a point to text and see that we were settled in. Easy 10 min. drive into Fort Bragg.

A private, clean, quiet cabin, in the woods. Wifi and EV charging. Well mannered dog welcome. Wild english garden, indoor and outdoor kitchens, fabulous bathroom. Warm and welcoming. Puzzles & Games. Magical! It's a must see!
Juliette's Place is two miles from the ocean, where the only sounds you will hear is the ocean crashing against the rocks, and an occasional passing car. We offer jigsaw puzzles, novels, fabulous organic tea, a wood stove, and a beautiful outdoor kitchen for nice days. This cabin is the epitome of the country experience, and a great place to get away! Juliette, who lived in the cabin for thirty years, played the cello and welcomed her musician friends, who came to stay with her from all over the world. You can still hear faint strains of the music in the breeze.
The cabin is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. The neighbors are generally quiet, with an occasional child's voice or dog barking. We have one neighbor who whistles as he works outside, but you may never hear him.
  • A sweet, quiet spot nestled in the woods and only minutes from the coast. The wood burning stove was especially cozy in the rain and fog, as was soaking in the tub. Peter and Lee are excellent hosts and it was great to have someone right next door to answer questions who also completely respected our privacy. They provide tide books, and maps of local state parks which is how we learned about the jug handle reserve - highly recommend the ecological staircase trail / pygmy forest.

    Stephanie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute spot, felt rather isolated from the rest of the surrounding homes in a nice way. There was a great wood stove in the middle that was a lot of fun to keep lit and made the place smell quite pleasant (wood was very well stocked!). Less than 10 minutes from the city of Mendocino and lots a nearby oceanside hikes. There is a nice little grocery store just down the road that made light shopping quite convenient. Bed was very comfortable for the two of us and really warm (and we stayed warm after the wood stove had burned out throughout the night). There is a really cool bathtub and a kitchen that was more or less fully equipped (but limited to two small burners). Great value and awesome location overall.

    Kyle2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Charming, cozy little cabin tucked in the woods. Beautiful location, nice and quiet, well stocked with firewood for the wood burning stove and kitchen essentials. Peter was very kind and helpful. Easy drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

    Katie2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • A stay at juliette's is always amazing. We love taking baths in the big tub they have, as well as using the bidet. Staying in winter is especially gratifying as you use a wood stove to keep warm. The tea is always nice in the winter too. After many stays Lee and Peter have always provided many different new kinds of tea, which are always good. It's also a nice place to come for inspiration for art. A wonderful secluded getaway that's not too far from the modern world to be inconvenient.

    Grant2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique little cabin in a quiet part only 10 minutes from Mendocino with friendly hosts. The place was well kept, rustic, and very Mendocino-feeling. Would highly recommend!

    Eli2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is adorable, the bathtub is fantastic, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the bed so so comfortable! Plus, the skylights in the roof are incredible, watching the stars from bed is such a treat.

    Kamala2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away in a quiet, green, back to basic place. We loved our stay! If you are looking for a cabin in the woods, where you will put away your phones in order to make a puzzle, this is your spot.

    Suzanne2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, my partner and I had an absolutely beautiful time here at Lee and Peter’s space. The cabin is so darling and gets incredible sunlight, the bathtub was such a dream and the cabin itself was so cozy. The skylight above the bed allowed us to observe a beautiful full moon. Lee also included tea from their tea company that was delicious and such a thoughtful touch. The hosts were very quick and good at responding. We enjoyed our time here very much and would love to return.

Redwood cabin in the redwoods! We have a beautiful cabin with incredible views 5 miles from the ocean and the town of Elk. We live in the farmhouse on the property and will be here to help with anything but otherwise we keep to ourselves :) We can't wait to meet you!
The cabin has a bedroom with a queen sized bed (sleeps 2) and the futon in the living room also folds out into a queen sized bed (sleeps 2). There is a single padded mattress in the loft area as well (sleeps 1).
We are tucked away in nature so it's best to bring food and snacks with you to the cabin. The Elk store is about 6 miles away and they do have essentials as well as a delicious deli counter. Most surrounding restaurants are closed during the winter time, but they do reopen in the spring. There is also a larger town, named Mendocino, that does have more restaurant and store options. Please ask if you have any questions!
  • The place was amazing and will definitely come back Brittany and branden were a great hosts. Great place for a couple or even family.

Nestled between the redwoods & pigmy forest 3 miles from Mendocino Village, this tiny house comes with a kitchenette, sofa bed, bar/dining area, and sleeping loft, with a short stroll outside through the garden to your separate private bathroom & shower. *BED IS UP A LADDER At night you can enjoy s'mores around the stone fire pit, while star-gazing and enjoying the sounds of silence... except for the chorus of frogs in the pond and chirping of the birds. Then wake up to a morning Nespresso!
We know the area well, so feel free to ask us for tips on anything that comes to mind... whether it's an activity you're interested in, where to eat or upcoming local events. Or just take it easy in the quiet comfort of our secluded property and feel free to pick some herbs, veggies, & apples in the garden. We just added a 2-person hammock by the fire pit, so enjoy napping or stargazing. Our water is excellent for drinking, filtered from a well. Wi-Fi may be spotty on occasion, and no cell service at the property unless you have Verizon. (Some other carriers work here, but not AT&T.)
All properties in our area are between 5 and 20 acres, so there's plenty of peace and privacy. Five of our 20 acres are fenced in, so you can roam the grounds without getting lost in the woods!
  • Only stayed one night, but wish we stayed at least two

    David2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at this tiny house in Ukiah made for an unforgettable experience. Tucked into a grove of Redwoods, this charming little accommodation is part of Tracy's and Bart's overarching property, which also includes their main house with an adjacent guesthouse, and then a little cabin and the tiny house. Some perks we particularly enjoyed: - On the property is a little outdoor fire pit which all guests are free to use. There were ingredients for smores provided in the accommodations! A really nice touch! - The Nespresso machine in the tiny house which allowed for delicious morning coffee, with both regular and plant-based creams provided -- a thoughtful touch. - Portable heaters places in the house and separately located bathroom, for cooler days. - An outdoor shower provided exclusively for the tiny house -- with all necessary toiletries provided. - Clearly labeled and assigned parking spots for each accommodation/guest. - Plenty of towels and linens made available for guests. - The warm + friendly welcome from hosts Bart + Tracy, and their impeccable and useful communication leading up to + throughout the stay. - The nightly "frog orchestra!" I had never heard such a symphony of frogs before. It felt really nice and nostalgic to hear them again, and so many! - Just the overall experience of getting to test out how what it would be like to live in a tiny home, and the pleasures that can be found in such a type of minimal living space and lifestyle. : )

    Ulara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Do yourself a favor and stay here at least two nights — the first is just enough to get settled in, but the second day is when the real magic begins. It was such a treat to wake up slowly, do some tiny house yoga, enjoy breakfast and nespresso on the patio with the sun in my eyes, and head out to adventure along the coast for the afternoon. The magic continued with a fire in the fire pit that evening, and some cozy time inside with a book by the faux fireplace. I cannot recommend this little oasis more - don’t hesitate to book if you’re looking for a Mendocino retreat. Thoughtful touches and amenities galore, and overall a delightful experience. I have a feeling I’ll be back!

  • An adorable Tiny House with tall trees as neighbors peaking in lovingly from all the windows. Terrific location and super friendly and accommodating hosts. I'd love to come back and stay longer next time to gaze at the blanket of stars and take advantage of the gorgeous garden area.

  • I am so happy I came across Tracy and Bart's tiny house. It was the perfect Valentine's Day trip. They had so many extra amenities that made this stay so amazing! I would come back to Mendocino again just to stay in the tiny house. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants a cute, quiet getaway.

  • Beautiful tucked away gem. Can’t wait to come back and stay longer

    Kacy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Just beautiful. Where else can you sleep in an adorable tiny house, shower under a canopy of tall, old trees, and relax in a beautiful garden/fire pit area? Tracy and Bart’s property is a convenient ten minute drive from Main Street Mendocino but it still manages to feel remote and serene at the same time. I hope to return for a longer stay. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to unwind in a beautiful place!

  • This is our second time staying with Tracy and Bart, and this place has turned into our little serene getaway! I almost hate writing a review because I don’t want to let our secret out! The location is fantastic and the home is exactly what you need! Couldn’t recommend more!

  • Stunning place, very welcoming and friendly upon arrival and departure. The fire place, steam room and jacuzzi bath hit the spot after a chilly day of exploring! We'll be back for sure ✌️

  • What a lovely place! The space was very roomy and quiet. The jetted bathtub was a treat as I was visiting for business. The bathroom in general gets five stars as there is a separate very large shower. At night I sat on the patio and marveled at the tree tops and the stars, so beautiful! Bart was extremely gracious to make sure I had everything I needed to be comfortable.

  • Tracy's place was absolutely beautiful inside and out!! Great location. Felt like you really far from everyone but just a short drive to town. The heated floors in the bathroom and the huge jet but were my favorite parts!!!! Will definitely come back!

  • The tree house is magical! The decor is beautifully rustic and the outdoor shower was such a treat. We rented it as a family and it was so perfect for us. Definitely need to come back on a couples retreat. It is super beautiful and such a romantic set up. We visited this last weekend and the wood burning stove kept the house so warm. This was a total treat. If you love the smell of the redwoods and enjoy beauty, this is the place for you. It felt very private and Erin was such a great host. Thank you! Can’t wait to come out again :)

  • what A beautiful and peaceful stay...the treehouse and all it’s amenities were better than described...great place to unwind and be with nature.

    Caroline2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend and what a great place it is to recharge and unwind. Only 15ish minutes away from the downtown, but still nice and tucked away in the forest. The cooking amenities were great and the outdoor bathing area was so cool. The treehouse had some fun games and books to browse through. Would totally come back again to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

    Gabriela2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Was very nice! Will be returning. The outdoor tub was amazing!

    Jeremiah2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at this cabin! It is a quiet, secluded space surrounded by redwoods and a ten minute drive to downtown Mendo. We enjoyed the incredible stars, peaceful environment, outdoor shower and tub and cozy inside space as well. There’s also an outdoor fire ring with plenty of firewood and tree swing! Highly recommend this place!

    Lindsay2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very much an adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed the space. It was nice to have a town close by, but sadly some of the vendors are set back in their ways. Unfriendly gas attendants and a few select places only accepted cash no cards. This in no way reflects badly on the hosts though, just a heads up for those staying around that area. The host was great and very quick responses to any questions/needs.

    Garrett2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully designed space with magic everywhere. My partner and I spent two lovely days here and will definitely be back. Between the outdoor shower and the composting throne with an amazing view, it’s a wonderful blend of modern and rustic beauty.

We are 5.5 miles to the beautiful Mendocino coast and 12 miles to Mendocino. It is possible to spend days in the country, in the forest or on the coast in this location.
  • Such a quaint and cozy space. It’s also located in the most beautiful area. Loved the claw foot tub that overlooks the redwoods.

    Erika2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house was small, as expected, but so cozy!! The view of the redwood trees out the big bathroom window was amazing, and there's so many good local spots and beaches to explore nearby.

    Emily2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My dearest gal pals and I had the BEST time in this cozy little redwood home. We highly recommend this place to spend time with loved ones!

    Maria2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa's tiny house is wonderful! Super cozy and private, views of trees from every window. The loft is a little tricky at first, but as long you you don't have mobility issues it's fine, and the bedroom space upstairs is really spacious and comfortable. Lots of thoughtful touches, like bubble bath for a soak in the luxurious tub. A great little find in Mendocino!

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute. Amazing bath tub w/ a forest view. Love that there is no WiFi or cell reception. I literally read 3 books during the full day I spent lounging around. Can’t recall the last time i unplugged for so long. Super close to Van Damme state park which had amazing hiking which I took advantage of the day I wasn’t reading all day. Note that the sleeping is up in the loft via a pretty serious ladder situation so if you have any mobility issues at all probably not a good fit. Otherwise a super cute, rustic, minimalist place to unplug up in Mendo for the weekend.

    Lindsey2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa’s place was perfect for a short weekend trip. She was able to install the wall heater a few days before our trip, so we got lucky and got to use it immediately!

    Wendy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Elisas place is a beautiful and private place to stay in the woods. The bath tub has an incredible view of large trees with nice ambient candles to light up. The record player has a few good records to play during your stay and the mini kitchenette is equipped with a good set up to make your morning comfortable. The only thing I would consider is that the main bed is on the second floor that is accessed only by a ladder. It is built in a tight space and was a little tough to navigate. Other than that the place is absolutely wonderful!

    Charles2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very adorable cabin in the redwoods. Elisa is a great host who helps you settle into the space. The cabin can be cold in the winter, but the heaters help cozy up the place.

This is a remote haven away from it all! Fresh air and calm, natural beauty and a fascinating place to stay with unique beaches, trails, diving, kayaking and canoeing as well as cycling and the picturesque village of Mendocino - all just 12 minutes drive away.
  • Great location. Quite spot but only 12 minutes away from the village of Mendocino. It was a bit cold when we checked in. Took about 45 minutes to warm up the place turning on the heating system. It was good after that. Loved the large kitchen area.

  • Very clean and very cozy. Nice big yard. Close to Mendocino. We all had a lovely time.

    Andrew2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Everything was clean and functioned perfectly. The location was good- not too far off the beaten path. Beds are a little low and the few steps up to the path a little high if you have knee/back issues. Not terrible but just be aware. All in all a great place. We will be back!

    Beverly2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This little cabin in the redwoods was the perfect, quiet weekend getaway. The cabin in about 5 miles into the redwoods off of Hwy 1 just a few minutes south of Mendocino. Both bedrooms were very comfortable, and the view of the front yard space in the mornings is unbeatable. Deer wandered through the yard, and nothing could be heard at all. We had a great stay and would recommend this space.

We walked in and there was soft music playing and pretty lighting, we instantly felt relaxed. At first we were worried about not having WiFi but it turns out it was exactly what we needed to disconnect from technology and truly relax. • Rob and Elsa have created a very special place with the Water Tower Loft. There were such thoughtful touches when we arrived, and the space was larger than I expected. Everything was so well-appointed - the bed and linens were so comfortable, the kitchenette was well-stocked with essentials, and there was even music to listen to! It was such a perfect place to escape two for a couple nights, and I hope to return soon!

Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely."

Forty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast.
  • This is the most cozy, lovely cottage, set in beautiful and quiet woods. It is well-appointed, full of plants (including the biggest monstera I've ever seen!!!), and perfect for a relaxing weekend away. We loved watching hummingbirds at the feeder, and sitting on the deck to enjoy the quiet. We're definitely planning on coming back for a longer trip.

    Amelia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I came to Tom’s place to meditate, to create and to simply enjoy some quiet solitude. The space was perfect for this. Even though Tom and Sharon’s home is right next door, it didn’t take away from the feeling of privacy. Quiet Cottage is indeed very quiet. It’s also very clean and contains everything you might need including WiFi. Also, the faucet water, which comes from their well, is delicious! There was a house sitter in their home when I was there because Tom and Sharon went away for a couple of days. I didn’t get to meet them, but it was easy to absorb the good energy in their space. These are obviously good and honest people. The value is excellent and I would definitely stay here again!

    Brenda2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in the Quiet Cottage. The tastefully decorated interior of the cottage was perfect. The highlight of our stay was the surrounding garden. We could tell that a great attention to detail and expertise in landscaping were put into this magical gem of a spot. Two little deer even came to visit!

    Zachary2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to hang our hats during our stay in the Albion/Mendocino area. It is located in its own redwood paradise. You can hike just outside the door of the cottage. And, for longer hikes, there are plenty of hiking trails in the vicinity. The cottage is a fully functional unit. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Probably the nicest, hottest, most pressurized shower we have ever encountered. This place is a 5+.

    Stephan2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, quiet place in the forest with deers tiptoeing around at night. If you wake up early enough you can see the steam rising from the nearby flora.

    Matthew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was wonderful! The photos don’t capture all of its beauty. The drive to the cabin was scenic and peaceful. The cabin was clean, had helpful signs/labels/instructions throughout, and contained all the bathroom/bedroom/cooking supplies we could need. It was the perfect getaway. Tom next door stopped by to make sure we were doing well. He was friendly and great to chat with. Looking forward to coming back sometime!

    Jenny2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Sharon were excellent hosts! Communicative, friendly and helpful. They clearly communicated details before we arrived. The space was sparkling clean when we got there and, although small, had everything we needed and more. There were helpful little notes about navigating the new space, light switches, kitchen appliances, etc... There were a lot of local guides, resources, and novels to choose from the bookshelf as well as a DVD library. The property is beautiful and well maintained. You can tell they have poured their hearts into this little oasis. Location was remote, and although adjacent to their home, we completely felt like we were "away". Stargazing was mind-blowing. We took some wonderful walks in the neighborhood which sits atop a coastal ridge, nestled in redwoods and flanked by beautiful and deep river valleys. It was a short, 15 minute leisurely walk to view the ocean across some coastal pastures. Basic amenities in "downtown" Albion are a short 10 minute drive away as well as the drama of the Northern CA coast. We couldn't get enough. Mendocino is close, Ft. Bragg not that much farther and a ton of vistas, beaches, coves, cliffs and parks in between. If you're looking to reboot and recharge, I'd strongly recommend it.

    Colin2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 2-night stay in Tom and Sharon’s quiet cottage. The whole package is 5-star, from Tom’s prompt and welcoming communication, to the cleanliness and comfort of the well supplied cottage, to the generous check-out time. The bathroom linens are nice quality and the bed is super comfortable. The BBQ works great. The cottage is on a lovely property with the hosts own home right next door. It’s a very peaceful setting and we’ll be sure to try and stay when we visit the area again.

Your stay at The Roost will put you amidst sunshine and branches. The best of both worlds, we are located just 1.5 miles from the ocean in a sunny redwood grove. Of course Albion is an easy 10 minute drive to Mendocino Village. Bird lovers can enjoy their coffee on the upper deck while taking in the morning chorus. There are windows and skylights in all rooms for maximum enjoyment of our wooded wonderland.
With a name like The Roost you'll probably gather we've got some chickens (Hens only!). They are happy to make your mornings a little sunnier (eggs anyway you like ‘em).
We are located on a quite private road where folks drive slowly and take time to wave :)
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Roost. The space was super clean, cozy and well kept. I was looking for a place to relax, do some writing and to serve as a home base for exploring the area. It was perfect. Tucked away in the redwoods it was a quiet retreat. I didn’t get to enjoy the outdoor tub. Next time! I would highly recommend the Roost for your next Mendo getaway!

    Gabriela2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Barry were great hosts. Real quality and care went into this place to stay. They left me some eggs in the fridge for the morning from their chickens and even set up a wood fire in the fireplace ready to light. I could say more but just a lovely stay in a unique and beautiful home.

    Blake2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very cozy. Great wood fireplace to keep warm with wood provided. Great central location if you are interested in exploring Mendo County. Would definitely stay there again!

    Jason2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Barry have put a huge amount of care into the Roost. The kitchen is more than fun to cook in and the art on the walls and and the outdoor tub/shower is a truly unique bonus. They responded to all questions in no time flat (for example, can we use more wood? YES!; the water pressure all of the sudden became low, whats up? wait 10 mins), and were incredibly generous (they gave us eggs made by the "girls"). We hope to have an opportunity to return soon. Be sure to read the written directions to get there. Do not miss an opportunity to stay at the Roost!

    Sara2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost is every bit as wonderful as previous reviews show, but the icing on the cake for dedicated birders like us was the entertainment at the bird feeder every day. A very warm welcome, highly recommended!

    Michael2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost was everything we could have hoped for and more. It’s location is secluded, yet a short drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The place is immaculate, beautifully decorated, and incredibly well stocked (the kitchen especially!). Amy and Barry were warm and responsive hosts. We hope we can come back someday.

    Sarah2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Roost is an amazing stay. It's tucked away in the middle of the redwoods and such a peaceful space. It's a very quick 10 minutes drive to all the restaurants and bars in Mendocino as well. Amy and Barry were amazing hosts as well. We would love to stay again!

    Andrew2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you don’t book this listing, you’re missing out on a little piece of heaven. From the moment our tires hit Road C we knew we were in for the treat. The hosts, Amy and Barry, really put a sweet and stylish touch on every single aspect of their listing. The outside garden area is gorgeous, inviting and feels like a sanctuary. From the hops growing on the fence to the bathtub ( which i used for a late night soak while taking in the night sky) and gorgeous sunflowers and dahlias, I could just live out there. The kitchen was just perfect. They have it stocked with all the necessities to make a great meal and the fridge even comes with a pack of eggs from their little lady chickens! They had spices, coffee, ice, plates and even a zester (which I needed somehow ;)! The bed was so cozy and warm. Pillows were fully and the fireplace was a real show stopper. I can’t stop telling anyone who’ll listen just how wonderful this property was. I will book The Roost again and again and again.

AT THIS TIME, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA & MENDOCINO COUNTY ARE ORDERED TO SHELTER - IN-PLACE AND NOT ACCEPT ANY RESERVATIONS FOR VACATION RENTALS. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST UPDATE WHEN THE CRISIS HAS PAST. HIDDEN in the Redwoods of the Northern California Coast, just 6 miles from the Village of Mendocino, Big River Farm is a tranquil getaway just minutes from the Pacific Ocean, endless adventure, fine dining, and much more.
Big River Farm was once a Zen commune in the 60's. We have retained much of the flavor of that time. There are 4 dwellings on the property, strategically situated to have privacy from each other, but sharing the driveway, orchard & garden. The Zendo is a REDWOOD HOUSE nestled amongst the ferns and cherry trees, and can sleep 4 between its cozy BEDROOM w/ queensize bed and LIVING ROOM w/ queensize pullout sleeper couch. There is a separate "bonus room" in the TOWER for yoga or quiet time. This room is not heated or insulated, so the wintertime is a bit challenging, In the summer it is a lovely retreat. We added satellite wifi to the Zendo, so guests can check their email & surf the web. We have limited data, however, and streaming video or audio is restricted. LARGE KITCHEN is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. A couple or individual could enjoy the spacious single bedroom house, or up to 4 guests can comfortably share an incredibly AFFORDABLE vacation house.
We are surrounded on 3 sides by State Parks, so are really located "deep in the forest" while still having access to the paved road to town. We can walk down a trail to the river from the property, but it's very steep and most people enjoy going to the mouth of the river to Big River Beach and walking or biking up the Haul Road on the other side of the river. There are trail maps on the desk in the Zendo.
  • What an awesome place! Zendo is a gem that we felt so lucky to have experienced. If you need an escape from the world, this is definitely the place to go!

    Jeff2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie's place is perfect for a getaway weekend. You'll wake up in the woods but you're also very close to Mendocino and the coast.

    Amelie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another wonderful stay at the Zendo! Incredible architecture, beautiful location in the woods, and well-appointed with a wood stove and good kitchen. We pack some food and wine and huddle up for the weekend, only leaving for a quick hike in the woods every now and then. Only complaint this time was that it didn't rain--the property is even more majesting hearing raindrops tap on the roof.

    Sam2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place for a weekend in the middle of the nature. The place is really magic ! We will remember it for a long time

    Laura2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Just did our second trip here and it was just a magical as first. Great space, well equipped kitchen, and beautiful surroundings.

    Chase2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical spot! I almost don't want word to get out, but a stay at the Zendo is truly a gift. Great for couples and lovingly dog friendly. The BEST pull-out couch I've ever slept in. Incredible to wake up among the redwoods and be in the middle of Mendocino a short drive away. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.

    Becky2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • My second time at the Zendo and it was perfect. A quiet getaway in a magical little forest house. Plenty of space, great views, clean, cozy, and a just a short car ride to town.

    Alison2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, perfect, romantic, rustic, with thoughtful touches! We would definitely visit again. Loved the artwork, the windows amongst the woods, the fireplace w firewood, the kitchen, the outdoor spaces and hiking trails, the yoga loft, the quiet, and the tips for things to do locally. They have so many nice touches. They have board games, cards, extra blankets, a dog bed, dog furniture covers, and much more. Such thoughts hosts.

Looking for a unique experience? You won't find another place quite like this. Enjoy the peace and quiet, hot tub under the stars, play the piano and walk the labyrinth in the meadow. Great hiking out your door and in the State Parks nearby, yet you are just minutes from town. Wildlife sightings are possible. Press the pause button on your busy life. Find your creative spark! Light your creative fire! Let nature nourish you.
As you wind your way down my private road, off the beaten path, you will find my three story country house tucked in the forest with trees all around. My seven acre property affords complete privacy from the outer world but the town of Mendocino is just minutes away. The house is unique, designed and built as a solar house in 1979. Your Moon View Suite is on the second floor of the house. This is a private retreat. You will be the only guests here. The Moon View Room overlooks the forest, the meadow and the garden below. Windows to the east, south and west make this room light and airy. There is a king size bed and country antique furniture in the room. You will have a SUITE OF ROOMS FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT your bedroom, the desk and recliner in the adjacent Forest View room, a room down the hall with hardwood floors, table and chairs, hand crafted by my great grandfather and a food prep area off to the side, with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, teapot and refrigerator. Just down the hall, you will have a PRIVATE BATHROOM with mexican paver tile floors, a big tiled walk in shower with bench and a six foot long claw foot bathtub. The solar collecting greenhouse for this solar home is adjacent to your room and to the bathroom through antique oak french doors. From the chair on the balcony of the greenhouse you can look out over the forest and meadow below. Deer wander by regularly and you might catch a glimpse of Mr. Fox and more! There is a SEPARATE GUEST ENTRANCE. The HOT TUB IS ALWAYS ON. Soak under a giant redwood tree while you wake up enjoying the sounds of the forest around you. Also nice during the full moon and on starry nights. The hot tub is extremely private, placed so that it is not visible from the house, no neighbors, just forest all around.
You will be surrounded by forest but its just a 7 minute drive on a country road to the town of Mendocino, with its spectacular headlands, art galleries, shops and restaurants, close to Van Damme and Russian Gulch State Parks, twenty minutes from Ft. Bragg with more beaches, parks, a beautiful botanical garden (best in spring and summer) and more. There are beautiful walks right out your door that lead you through Jackson State Forest and to Big River State Park, however, trails here are not marked. Check with me for a map. There is much to do and explore or you can just retreat in this beautiful little hideaway.

  • This is a beautiful hideaway in the woods—and super close to town. It was the most perfect writing and art retreat for the week. Lovely hot tub and inspiring space!

  • My daughter and I loved our stay here. So beautiful, peaceful and quite. We loved the soft comfy bed and the claw foot tub and the shower was amazing too. Marilyn is a great host. Loved every minute of our stay. We will be back some day.

    Windy2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic trip due to my stay at Marilyn's place. Her binder filled with information regarding Mendocino County and her AirBnB guided us into a pleasant, fun, and an all around spectacular visit. If I do plan to visit the area again I hope she'll let us stay at her property once again. Loved it!!

    Michael2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space inside and out. The bed is wonderfully comfortable and you're surrounded by windows to the forest around. The hot tub is awesome. While there's no kitchen, Marilyn has set it up with a mini fridge, hot water kettle, toaster, and microwave and provides a few breakfast necessities. Very relaxing and peaceful. Thanks Marilyn!

    Jill2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn’s place is so very quiet! It’s a lovely space, and thoughtfully appointed. She is a very open, and friendly host. Mosquitos are very pervasive outside, but she provides spray. Good location near coast..easy to get to!

Truly one of a kind experience. Surround yourself with beautiful redwood valley views, yet minutes to vineyards, the coast and all that the spectacular Anderson Valley has to offer. The Hexagon is hand crafted from a felled redwood tree on the property, designed with an organic modernist aesthetic & meticulously developed into the perfect guest retreat. Signature to this guest cabin is the outdoor bathroom, inspired by a safari experience. The Hexagon is off-grid and powered by solar energy.
No detail has been overlooked in The Hexagon. It has been designed so that you feel like you are floating in nature, even when you are inside, fireside and cozy. Four of the six sides of this structure have windows, so wherever you look you see views and nature. As you relax in bed, read on the leather armchair, enjoy an outdoor shower or soak in the two person exterior tub, you may see deer, wild turkey, rabbit, quail, hawk, eagle, chickadee and more. The Hexagon feels remarkably roomy because of its vaulted ceiling and plentiful light. It is cozy because of its working fireplace, defined by a gorgeous Heath Ceramics tiled hearth. The building is sited to be nestled into a grove of madrone trees for privacy, yet have unobstructed views of the valley below. The defining feature of The Hexagon is the exterior bathroom, which was inspired by remote African safari tents. The bathroom is literally one with nature, with a madrone penetrating the privacy wall and providing support for the shower, as well as felled madrone branches serving as the railing spindles of the deck. The Hexagon is part of a larger property with other buildings that the owners have built out as a labor of love and an expression of their creativity over the last 15 years. 200 feet away is a converted Airstream trailer and a small house. These buildings are for the owner's private use and are rarely occupied. You are welcome to use the house's large deck, with great views and comfortable adirondack chairs. The Hexagon has an uncovered outdoor kitchen, including propane bbq with 1 burner, kitchen sink, cooler and dining table. We provide a few pots and pans, a few basic cooking utensils, sharp knives, cutting board, bbq tools, plates and glasses. You will need to bring ice for the cooler, food, anything for cooking including oils and spices, etc. Ice can be bought 3 miles away at the local convenience store in Navarro. In addition, in your private exterior kitchen, you will find the exterior dining table and chairs, portable exterior lounge chairs, and a hammock. It is the perfect spot to get away with a loved one, or alone. It is a great jumping off point for day trips or for the writer looking for a spot to feel inspired. We love it here and hope you do too!
The Hexagon is located in the perfect spot for a unique weekend away from it all. You will find yourself perched on a ridge overlooking the vast Anderson Valley. Madrone, tan oak and redwood trees envelop you on the property. All of the surrounding parcels are multi-acre properties as well, accessible by the same road. A short drive away are award-winning vineyards and fabulous restaurants. The Hexagon is 15 minutes from some of the most spectacular California coastline and 35 minutes from Mendocino. Within minutes you are at the secret swimming hole of the Navarro river or shopping the local farm stands. Oh, and five minutes away is a great convenience store with great coffee, wine, and sandwiches. For city folk, this will be a truly country experience, yet with amenities. For country folk used to acres-upon-acres of isolation, keep in mind that while the property is private, other neighbors do use the access road.

  • Very efficient space. Close to Mendocino and some magnificent coastlines so it was a great base for us. Shower and bathroom are a good size & you had all the essentials. We really enjoyed our stay. The walkway to the cottage is gravel, so use caution (suitcases don’t roll). On a local note & traveler tip, drive the few extra minutes to the market in Mendocino rather than the market just over the bridge...we found expired food and prices were much higher.

  • Our second stay, and once again the house did not disappoint. This is a well stocked home in a beautiful location. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

    Karen2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place was affordable for my group! Regardless of the 11 mile trip into Fort Bragg... it was a great place to call home for 5 days! One of us pitched a tent in the gated lawn area, the remainder of us were inside. Honestly want to keep this place a secret so no one knows about it!!! Keep it more available for me!! Lol! So ignore this awesome review and move along.. this isn’t the rental you’re looking for.... You will find everything you need to feel relaxed and stress free! After days playing, chads place is a great place to rest your head... play horse shoes (which we never had time to do) build a fire in the pit (which we did once only because I was afraid of our red flag warning back home and wanted to be extra safe- but it’s a super sweet set up!!!) Easy for dogs to play and stay safe. Chad is a great communicator if you need to pester him he is your guy! Don’t tell others, but yes, this is a great affordable place to stay!!! Worth the drive into town!

  • Everything about this stay was wonderful! Very clean, Very cozy. Angela gave some great hiking tips and all of her instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Would very much recommend to anyone.

    Eric2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of my favorite AirBNB experiences and I have had some good ones. Angela was great at communicating all the details and directions to this hidden gem a week in advance. There were no unwanted surprises and we had zero trouble finding the house in the pitch black night. The view is absolutely stunning! And no detail was spared within the studio. The dog bowls, treat, and toy were such a nice touch. We stayed in the month of February, and had no trouble staying warm while we enjoyed Netflix. One of the best weekend getaways for this couple and our dog. We will certainly be back!

    Vanessa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place! The view was beautiful and it was great being so close to the ocean. It really felt like a special, secluded place and was a great spot to unwind. We did some hiking and exploring of the area, but it was also nice just to stay in and relax. Great place for a romantic getaway!

    Ashley2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely getaway for two, with or without your dog. It's a very stylish studio with a view and is in a great location: just South of Mendocino (about 15 min) and Ft Bragg (about 30 min) and just North of Elk (about 15 min). Angela is a great host; we had a wonderful time.

    Robert2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot, great view. Wanted a nice relaxing weekend away from everything and this place delivered!

    Christian2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a private and scenic place to stay while enjoying the Mendocino coast. It was sparkling clean with stylish furnishings and plenty of space. Everything was comfortable, from the bed to the shower to the couch. We loved the view of the Albion River, too. And the driveway turnstile was a kick! You'll have a great time if you choose to stay here.

  • Angela's place in Mendocino was really great! We really enjoyed our stay there, it was really comfortable and cozy. We brought along our dog with us and Angela made his stay comfortable as well. Her place has a nice view of the river and isn't too far from hiking and the beach.

  • Had a great 4 night stay. The place was great and Angela was very responsive. We had our two dachshunds with us and they even had their own toys and treats when we arrived. We loved the view and ocean sounds from the balcony. We will definitely be back!

If you're looking for an experience with your stay, this is it. The Blue barn is over 100 yrs old, built entirely of old growth redwood. It is situated on what we lovingly refer to as "The Farm". It's like walking straight into a much simpler time. Check out our Instagram @thefarm_mendo.com
This property is unique in more ways than words can express. The Blue Barn is an amazingly curated rustic getaway situated on 6 acres of Magic. We think of this land as one giant art project; constantly adding details, additions and love. If you have a larger party please consider renting The Bunkhouse in addition. (Queen bed completely private and detached, but does not have a kitchen) If you'd like to learn more please follow us on instagram @thefarm_mendo
Please be aware Albion is a very small town. Our little store is very well stocked and open 7-7....you may find food in Mendo until 9. If your arriving late bring provisions.
  • Such a magical spot tucked in the forest. The craftsmanship of everything and little touches felt authentic and rustic. Great escape and surprised we were able to find it on such short notice...would expect this to be booked months ahead. Definitely coming back.

  • As always, we loved our stay at the Blue Barn! The fact that this was our 7th (I think!) stay, speaks for how amazing this property is. Truly, a perfect place to get away and spend time in nature with wonderful amenities such as the sauna and outdoor shower. We’ll definitely be back again!

    Christina2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for some time away to unplug, look no further. This place exceeded my expectations and is probably the best Airbnb I've ever stayed in. The quaintness of the cabin and property coupled with the warmth of the hosts made it truly memorable. Town, hikes, and restaurants are all a very short drive. You'll definitely enjoy your time here!

    Josh2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • There's something magical about the Blue Barn. It always provides a simple and cozy space to unwind, digitally detox and slow down. The magic happens when time seems to stand still, especially when taking a walk in the nearby woods. Michele is an attentive, respectful and intuitive host who has a knack for cultivating the experience of a true getaway through thoughtful touches combined with simple pleasures. Less is more at the Blue Barn and it has become one of my favorite places to retreat and rejuvenate.

    Tracy2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 3rd trip and this is definitely our happy place. It is cozy, warm and playful in its touches. We have only visited in the spring but were excited to visit during December. We loved the homey decorations, Ipurchased a 3rd flannel and it was not too cold for the outdoor shower. There were even a few apples left, so a pie or crisp will be made and enjoyed at christmas. All the details as always are handled with nothing left to worry about. We so lucky we found the barn...definitely our happy place. Hope to be back in the spring!

    Ken2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Blue Barn is always a fantastic getaway for us. The property is so private and we just love every detail Michele adds to the experience. It truly is an escape to another world for us. The quick drive to Mendo is so beautiful and we appreciate everything the town has to offer. We’ll be back soon!

    Steve2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Just magical. The Blue Barn was more than a place to rest our heads, it was an experience. The property is nothing less than stunning. So peaceful, quiet, and tranquil. Absolutely beautiful.

    Cory2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • So sweet, warm and cozy. They’ve made a real home out of a cool old barn. Its rustic appeal made us want to move to the country! Loved all the thoughtfulness they’ve poored into this place; we had a record playing within minutes of arrival. We so appreciated how cared for we felt. This place is truly a gem. Thank you Michele!

  • Very clean and comfortable home. Gorgeous views.

    Laurie2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable home! We were in Albion for our kayaking group's yearly gathering and thought this year we would stay in a home instead of driving the camper over. It was good to have nice warm showers and soaks in the hot tub to take the chill off after a long day on the water. I'd also like to say that the updates on this older home were well done! I used to own a home of this year and enjoyed the old wood floors mixed with the newer floors and amazing kitchen and comfortable couch. I think the only updates left would be the mattresses and maybe privacy blinds in the front bedroom and bathroom with the shower. Luckily it was just us two so we had the choice of the cozier bedroom in the back with the claw foot tub ;-). We would definitely stay here again.

A bite size bedroom in a slice of heaven. This is perfect for the simple traveler who want an experience with their stay. Located on a 6 acre apple farm surrounded by old growth redwoods. Dine in the glass house or relax in the hammock. The magic of Mendocino is just 10 min. North, restaurants, bookstore, markets, and beauty everywhere. Lots of hikes, seashell collecting and sunsets to be enjoyed. Please note: We have The Cedar Shack that can be rented in addition (2 twin beds) $85 per night
We welcome an outdoor fire in your own nearby ring as well as use of The Farmhouse old school BBQ. The exterior bathroom and outdoor shower are a very short distance away from your little bunkhouse. The Bunkhouse (120 sq. ft.) is located on the same property as The Blue Barn (850 sq. ft.). It can be rented separately or as a pair. It is a wonderful property to Kumbaya with friends and family. Your own little compound. Please note: This listing does not include a kitchen. We recommend you bring a cooler if you want to BBQ. A dinner in the glass house is a real treat. The cute little detached bathroom is about 50 ft. away, it is equipped with flushing toilet, sink and mirror. Think of this stay as the cutest wooden tent you've ever seen. Check out our Instagram @thefarm_mendo.com Please note: The last photo in my gallery is an image of were the key is kept, just under the eve as you face The Bunkhouse on the left.
We do have neighbors so a quiet time of 10pm is appreciated.
  • So peaceful

    Poeina2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a unique stay and can’t wait to go back. You can tell that a lot of time, effort and thoughtfulness were put into building and decorating this farm. The cabin was comfortable and had nice touches throughout. The fire pit, glasshouse, outdoor shower, sauna, apple trees, and deer sightings made it such a fun glamping experience. Location is convenient to many ocean front restaurants, downtown Mendocino, and coastal trails. Highly recommend!

    Willie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place to go back to after a day out on the coast. The sauna was so fun and relaxing, and even the outhouse was cute and clean. A joy to stay in and will probably stay there again!

    Caroline2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in The Bunkhouse, such a lovely cabin surrounded by a Magic Forest! You will be amazed by all the amenities, like a sauna, a hot outside shower, a glass house, among others. Everything was sparkling clean and I love all the touches everywhere! I truly recommend this fabulous place.

  • This is a must see property!! I was continually surprised by all of the special things that are a part of the experience. I tried to take pictures to capture everything to share with others. I highly recommend visiting it in person!!

    Wendy2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had an awesome stay at the bunkhouse. The property is spectacular, and the sauna was such a treat.

    Sarah2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • A really gorgeous and cosy space that was a perfect base for exploring Mendocino. Everything was super-clean, bed was warm and comfy and Michele had left some brilliant local tips in the cabin. Fresh flowers in the cabin and really nice organic shower gel and shampoo in the shower were a wonderful touch too. Outdoor shower was fun and good hot water, esp nice after the sauna! Highly recommend and would visit again!

    Laura2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is truly a unique spot. Everything on the property is very well put together, from the insights for what to do around the area to the gnome village, sauna, outhouse, shower, basketball court, etc. There is a lot of charm to this place at the foot of a beautiful forest. I would highly recommend The Farm, my wife & I will definitely be coming back for another visit.

Welcome to cozy Ames House, and Mendocino, a romantic and historic town perched along northern California cliffs, surrounded by Big River Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Drive seven minutes east of town to a magnificent redwood forest on the ridge above Big River, in the sun-belt, surrounded by Jackson State Forest and Big River State Park. In an easygoing and comfortable atmosphere, guests relax in fresh air, take walks in the woods and enjoy reading, writing, artwork, and board games.
Ames House is one of two vacation cottages on Big River Ridge. We are at the end of a beautiful 3/4 mile long road flanked by Rhododendrons, Firs, Oaks and Redwoods, tucked into a Redwood forest so quiet and private and yet so close (8 minute drive) to the town of Mendocino. Several different rails take you to the Big River Haul Road, and then to town, through old redwood forests with glorious first growth redwood stumps, and to a Pygmy forest. Bike trails are abundant. Just up the road is The Woodlands State Park, a WPA wonder at the head of the Big River.
We live in a Redwood forest at the end of the road, 8 minutes drive to town.
  • Linda was an awesome host and the Ames house is absolutely beautiful.

    Andrew2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We live amongst the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area so we were looking for something that gave us the piece and serenity of the outdoors but didn’t sacrifice the amenities that makes a comfortable stay. this place provided us with both. The location is also very central and close to great hiking, biking and canoeing. Thank you linda for letting us stay at your place we loved it

    Pooya2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a well appointed cabin which will make you feel like you are truly in the woods, but with Mendocino only a 10 minute drive away. We brought our mountain bikes, and the location was a great jumping off place for several rides.

    Mark2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cabin in the woods with everything you need to avoid going to town too often. We particularly enjoyed the chickens wandering around during the day. The fireplace was a treat, and I learned a new way to lay a fire!

    Peter2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Love, love, LOVE Linda's place (Ames House) ... it was our fourth time staying here and it was as magical as our first. The hidden cabin in the middle of redwoods, the coziness of the fireplace, the welcoming note with a vase of beautiful picked flowers, fresh eggs from Linda's chickens in the fridge ...... it truly is a little slice of heaven.

    Gilda2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's place is so cosy! The cottage is part of a larger property in the middle of the woods so we really felt like we got away from it all! The house is well-maintained and felt very private. The kitchen is stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils and cooking accessories you need. I would definitely recommend to anyone for a quiet getaway, but not too far from town, hiking, and the coast. Thanks Linda!

    Ashley2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolute perfection. I’m sorely tempted to not say a thing here because I want this place all to myself forever!!! :) truly a magical and peaceful place...

    Debra2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's place was perfect! It felt so secluded but was minutes away from the downtown area. My husband and I spent the weekend here and it had everything we needed to make dinner/breakfast after a small grocery run. There was so much attention to detail that it didn't feel like we were missing anything and felt like a real getaway. Everything was super clean and although we were on the same property as Linda we had a private entrance and felt like we were the only ones for miles! Linda was kind enough to even offer us a bigger parking spot for our truck. It is truly a great place and you won't regret booking this place!

Elizabeth's room is downstairs in the Farmhouse with King bed, sitting area and private bath with tub and shower. Full breakfast each morning and 11% Hotel tax is included in price of the room.
Mendocino Farmhouse wasn't always a Bed and Breakfast. The Farmhouse and barn were built for my family in 1976 on a five acre parcel of land that was logged to make a clearing for the buildings and garden. The gardens were finished a few years later after much work and lots of mulch and horse manure. There were milk goats in the barn, a flock of chickens and a big vegetable garden. Now most of the vegetables have been replaced with flowers and berries, but the chickens are still here and give us fresh eggs for breakfast. The rooms in the Farmhouse were named after my children. All have private bathrooms with tub and shower and two have fireplaces. All rates in the house are $168 per night
The Farmhouse house is just minutes from the ocean and Mendocino village. Big River is just at the bottom of the hill from the house. You can rent kayaks or a canoe for the paddle up the river. The beach is also a place to relax and enjoy a bonfire. I have a picnic pack for your use and blankets for the sand. I have lived in Mendocino for 45 years so I can also share with you my memories of how things were in the past on the coast.

  • If you love country gardens, nature, beautiful quiet and privacy, a room in a house full of charm, you will love staying at the Mendocino farmhouse! Marjorie is a wonderful host, and Marie a wonderful assist to her… The daily breakfast was so delicious, the quiet at night was delicious, too! Truly a great value for your money… I will be back again and have been sending pictures and bragging and making my friends and family jealous while I was there 😁

This charming 400 sq. ft. cabin is in the sunbelt close to Mendocino Village. Tucked in the redwoods, it sits on a 20-acre property, with kitchen, fold-out couch in the front room, bedroom (with new mattress),shower & bathroom. Down the road, you can hike or bike alongside Big River, where sea lions, birds & other wildlife are plentiful. Star-gaze and toast marshmallows as you stay toasty by the fire pit. Enjoy a morning Nesspresso with frothed cream while listening to the sounds of nature.
We know the area well, so feel free to ask us for tips on anything that comes to mind, whether it's an activity you're interested in, where to eat or upcoming local events. Or just take it easy in the quiet comfort of our secluded property. In the armoire we provide a pack and play for your little one. The new queen mattress is a Craftmatic. There are instructions if you want to raise the head or foot side of the bed. After self checking in, please feel free to roam around our property. There are pathways leading through the gardens (designed by Gary Ratway, who also designed the Botanical Gardens in Fort Bragg), and a pond with chairs if you want to relax outside. We just added a 2-person hammock by the fire pit, so you can enjoy a daytime nap or nighttime stargazing. Don’t forget to enjoy making and of course EATING s’mores (ingredients supplied in cabin). On the healthy side, you can pick some lettuce, herbs & apples in the vegetable garden. The tap water is all purified well water and excellent for drinking. Wi-Fi is spotty and there’s no cell service unless you have Verizon. (Some other carriers work here, but definitely not AT&T.)
All properties in our area are between 5 and 20 acres, so there's plenty of peace and privacy. Five of our 20 acres are fenced in, so you can roam the grounds without getting lost in the woods!
  • We had a wonderful stay at Tracy and Bart’s cabin. It is easy to find if you follow their specific directions. it was a good home base for our Mendocino adventures. Loved the fire pit and s’mores.

  • I stayed 2 nights with my girlfriend and the place was perfect for us. There were so many nice touches that I do not expect from a host at all. Cheers

  • We loved staying at Tracy and Bart's place! The cabin is super cute, clean, and cozy. It's very private and only a few minutes away from downtown Mendocino. Tracy and Bart were excellent in communicating with us and made sure all of our needs were met. They even provided great recommendations for restaurants, hikes, and local attractions. When we return to Mendocino in the future (hopefully sooner than later!), we'll definitely be staying at Tracy and Bart's place.

  • Only a few miles from Mendocino, the Quaint Cabin was in a perfect location surrounded by redwoods and garden area. The well-equipped cabin is in a very quiet, peaceful setting. It was great that we could easily access local coastal trails, restaurants, and beach walks, while having a cozy cabin to return home to. Thanks Tracy and Bart for your rustic but comfortable cabin tucked in the redwoods. We will return!

The posted description is spot on and you'll find extra touches, reading materials, aromatherapy, s'mores ingredients, etc to take your stay to the next level. Check in was very easy and Bart & Tracy are easy to reach with any questions. Would love to stay here again one day and can easily recommend.

  • Mendocino Farmhouse is a wonderful stay, The house is well kept and clean and the rooms comfortable and quiet. Only a quick jaunt away from Mendocino and located in a small coastal redwood patch it's a beautiful stay.

  • Marjorie is a sweetheart and her place is a little gem surrounded by a backdrop of beautiful redwood forests! If you’re looking for a quiet and quaint experience with a lovely host, this is the place for you. Ps: I forgot to tell Marjorie our dietary restrictions of being vegetarian but she was super accommodating about it and made us a delicious tofu scramble! Thank you Marjorie for your wonderful hospitality!

  • This bed and breakfast inn is wonderful. The rooms are large and comfortable, as well as spotless. A nice bouquet of flowers were on the mantle for our arrival and replaced once during our three-night stay. As much as my daughter and I tried not to eat too much on vacation, you can’t miss out on Marjorie's yummy breakfasts. Eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon and toast with homemade jam were the first morning. The second she served homemade muffins and five-grain cereal with stewed fruit, and finally, buckwheat pancakes with bacon the last day. The only thing that took a bit getting used to was the internet. Very slow, and cell service was spotty. I highly recommend this as a place to stay while in the Mendocino area.

  • Nice relaxing location and beautiful flower gardens. Clean and comfortable. Short drives to Van Damme State Park and town of Mendocino. I would recommend Marjorie's place to friends.

  • Marjorie offers her guests genuine hospitality and a wonderful home cooked breakfast each morning. The setting is beautiful and our room was cozy and comfortable with nice amenities. I highly recommend the farmhouse if you're looking for a peaceful place to stay in Mendocino.

  • Margie warmly and graciously welcomed us into her lovely home. We loved everything about our stay- the wonderful conversations, delicious breakfasts, beautiful gardens, and darling dog and cat Jack and Simkin. Our room was delightfully comfortable. We hope to be back to our little slice of heaven soon. Thank you for the amazing memories!

  • Expect a restorative, wonderful energy at J & P's retreat in the redwoods. The description matches what we experienced and we are so grateful for the time we got to spend there. I spent an hour reading their newsletters, dating back to the 90s! The Hammer House is wonderful for families. We were there in winter and loved playing on the property with the kids. There are swings for kids, so many trees to play on and around and deer to watch. If kids are 2 and under, I'd recommend bringing a travel high chair and for cold weather trips, an additional baby gate to surround the wood stove.

  • My family had an excellent experience at the Hammer House. It is a beautiful location that allows you to readily connect with the ocean views and the redwoods. The ambience is peaceful and family-friendly. We had two children and four adults and fit comfortably in the house. We are grateful for our time on this trip in such a beautiful space.

  • Our stay at this property was amazing! Clean, quiet, and a perfect location in the woods and short drive to the beach. Cannot recommend it enough! Will definitely be back.

  • Seriously stay here!! Its really amazing! I hate camping but love the idea of beign just a little bit off the grid and this was the perfect marriage of both. The home is perfect for 3 adults to stay comfortably, but definitely room for more. It was great to wake up and see deer just in the yard and it was wonderful to see the stars at night and cook over the fire pit. Overall highly recommend staying here and I hope to come back for sure!!

  • I feel previous reviews don’t quite convey how really special this place is. We loved our time here! We knew the area was lovely having visited before. What was less clear in advance was how lovely the accommodation is. Sparkling clean, extremely comfortable and well provisioned with everything you need. We stayed in Hammer House, which was perfect for our family of five , I also had a look around the next door Americana which was equally charming with a large family space. We really hope to go back here: it is a rare gem, and the hosts are super friendly and accommodating. The nicest Airbnb experience I have had.

  • Jerry and Pat’s place was exactly what our family needed. This isn’t a four star hotel. They don’t turn down your sheets or put a mint on your pillow. The ranch is remote...and rustic...and absolutely wonderful. Your kids will initially love it. Then when they realize they don’t have WiFi or cell signals they’ll hate it. Then when they see the deer, the turkeys, and the amazing property, they will love it again! Jerry and Pat are gracious hosts. Their friendliness and general helpfulness were a true gift. We completely enjoyed our stay and plan to return when we can!

  • Our family had such a wonderful time at the Hammer House (one of two rental homes on the ranch). It was like a rustic cabin in the woods, but with all the amenities you need for the comforts of home. I won’t repeat everything others have said, about comfy beds, clean space and the incredible wildlife that strolls up to the house! Instead, I will provide some tips for families with little kids that might be considering this home for their Mendocino adventure. 1) It’s perfect for little ones, except there are stairs. Pat was incredibly thoughtful in her pre-arrival communication, letting us know what to expect and how we could prevent any issues with the little ones. I was of course a tad too blasé about this, but realized once we got there that two little rascal boys could definitely get upto trouble going up and down the stairs. So definitely be aware. But the outdoors is wonderful, as is the rest of the space in the house! 2) There’s a swing set right outside the house, as well as a tetherball to keep little ones occupied. There are also tons of fruit trees that amazed them, as they picked apples and blackberries to their hearts content! 3) The drive is super windy... and although there are several places to eat around 15-20mins away, I recommend bringing supplies for your first night so you can settle in and enjoy yourselves, rather than rush around buying things. (This was also recommended by Pat, and something I’m glad we listened to). 4) Finally, there are mosquitoes (perhaps just this time of the year?!) so bring repellent and/or AfterBite :) Although we saw a bunch of skeeters we never actually got bitten. So they’re probably harmless! All in all, I highly recommend this home for your get away and hope others enjoy it as much as we did. P.S- yes there’s a cleaning checklist but it really isn’t that bad! As long as you read the instructions ahead of time, it’s easy to follow.

  • A nice little house on top of the hill, just 10 or so minutes to the coast and a wonderland of local hiking, kayaking, biking, etc. A family of deer was grazing on the grass near the house, a jack rabbit came by in the early morning, the resident cat is quite friendly.. Hosts Jerry and Pat's place is nearby -- in fact this is just one of several houses they've built on their Antioch Ranch property -- so you can easily get their assistance if needed. They are warm and welcoming hosts, and our stay was easy and relaxing.

  • Hollis is the consummate host. Welcoming, friendly, helpful if you need it yet very respectful of your privacy. We only had a couple of short chats but we warmed to Hollis immediately. We took a weekend birthday trip to Mendocino. We've been wanting to spend some time up there for a while and Hollis' cabin was perfect. Just a few miles out of town down a dirt road felt perfect, our kind of place. Her land is calming, sweet, immediately relaxing and jealousy-inducing. It's a beautiful couple of acres. The cabin was perfect for a couple, including everything you need. I mean everything. My god, that bed was wonderful. I can't recommend this place enough, we'll be back. It's a perfect place to use as a home base while getting to know the Mendocino area. Thanks for the eggs!

  • I loved Hollis' place and I will definitely be back. The cottage is just a lovely little place tucked away off the road and you really feel like you're away from it all. It was a real quiet retreat with beautifully clear skies at night. The thing that really did it for me were all the little touches and flourishes. You could just tell that a lot of thought had gone into all the things a traveler would need while they're out. There were some snacks in case one had gotten in late like fresh fruit and homemade banana bread (which was just about the best I've ever had) along with some farm fresh eggs. There was a note about things like toothbrushes that were available had I forgotten mine. Hanging out by the gas fireplace was very cozy. The bed was comfy and I had no trouble getting to bed and waking up feeling refreshed. The place is located very conveniently located near Mendocino proper where there are some places to eat and shop, as well as many, many hiking spots and just spots to see the ocean. But what made it the best was Hollis herself. She was very friendly and communicative from the day I booked the place, answering any questions I had about local things to check out and hikes to go on. I didn't run into her the first day or so I was there because of my schedule but it was nice when I finally did get to meet her and chat for a bit. The bottom line is that I'll definitely be coming back to stay again.

  • The Huckleberry Cottage is a real gem and so is Hollis! My husband had training in Mendocino and asked if I'd like to come along for some R&R. The cottage was a perfect spot to stay and just 90 minutes from home. I met the 'girls' aka chickens, enjoyed the grounds, played with many of the gadgets in her well appointed kitchen and had pleasant chats with Hollis. Hosting seems to come naturally to her and she strives to see that her guests are comfortable without infringing on one's privacy. The cottage is 3 miles from Mendocino, which affords easy access to the surrounding area, and can be sunny when the coast may not be. It is a lovely place to hang out and we highly recommend it. We hope to come back some summer day when we need a relief from the 100+ temps of the Ukiah valley.

  • Cottage was comfortable for our family of four. Great home base for exploring Mendocino and the North Coast. Goats and chickens were a big hit with our kids, too. Thanks, Hollis, for a fantastic weekend!

    Kevin2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay here! Hollis is a great host, and made everything very turnkey! She also gave us wonderful suggestions for dining and things to do in the area. The cottage comes equipped with all the amenities needed for a long weekend, and is only a short 5 minute drive into the downtown area of Mendocino. You are also very close to the Russian Gulch State Park, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the area, and would recommend Hollis’ place to friends and family.

  • We were looking for a quiet hideaway in Mendocino for a long weekend with my family and finding Hollis’s place was a great surprise. Tucked inside the beautiful forest behind Mendocino and yet just minutes away from the center and the coast, perfectly designed for a couple or a family with small kids. The cottage was equipped with everything we were hoping for. Finding Hollis’s famous banana bread, fresh fruit, coffee and tea was definitely a nice touch. The beds and bathroom were very comfortable. The only issue we had was an annoying clicking noise coming from the propane heating when it was off at night, but other than that our stay was absolutely perfect. The girls had a blast feeding goats and chickens in the morning and the proximity to Mendocino and the coast was just amazing. We spent a couple of days tidepooling at Mackerricher Park, hiking Van Dammer State Park and visiting a farm and winery on our way back. Hollis and her family (who live in the house adjacent to the cottage) were amazing hosts and made us feel at home even during a busy time like the Thanksgiving holidays.
