  • Wonderful relaxing stay. The walk to Cuthberts cave from the front door was a nice surprise. Not too far from Bambrugh and Holy Island approx 15 mins in the car. The cottage itself is beautiful, amazing bed! Louise is extremely helpful and would love to revisit the area again.

  • Lovely cosy hideaway in a beautiful, rural location. St cuthbert’s cave is within walking distance and the cottage is also close to stunning coastlines and the cheviots. Little touches like wine and snacks, toiletries, robes and nespresso coffee machine made the trip extra special. We loved the hot tub and wood fire to warm up after a day of walking. Best of all the cottage is dog friendly so our puppy could join in the fun too!

  • Great place and location!

    James2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully furnished cottage in a rural setting, close to the Cheviots and cost but far from the reach of our mobile phone networks!!! Highly recommended for those wishing to use as a base to explore this wonderful region.

  • Lovely cottage in a quiet and rural area. The cottage was very clean and came with Instructions on how to use various appliances around the house. The house and it’s facilities were great and came with everything you needed (even washing machine and tumble dryer) along with a few nice touches of a bottle of wine and crisps, etc. Louise was very helpful with replies and came round within a few minutes to help with any issues, as well as giving us a map route for a nearby walk. Had a brilliant sleep every night due to how amazingly comfy the bed was and how silent the surrounding areas were. The WiFi however can be a bit temperamental but it’s a good chance to get away from it all and relax Overall had a great stay and couldn’t recommend it more.

    Sofia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Second time staying here - we loved it the first time and it was just as good the second time around. Loved the hot tub, and all the little extras (like robes, towels, etc) were lovely. Louise was very helpful with a couple of questions we had, with quick responses. Already working out when we can next go back!!

  • Great location just off the A1 in a quiet village 5 mins from Bamburgh Castle and 15 mins from Alnwick. Perfect size Cottage for family break. Jacqui was there to meet us on arrival and gave us plenty of info on the local area and tips/directions for our stay. Excellent little touches like tea/coffee, milk etc. and other basics to make things easy for us and a great co-op 2 mins walk for anything else you would need. Would 100% stay here again in the future.

  • Lovely, comfortable and sparkling clean cottage. Location is great for exploring Northumberland - only 15 min drive from stunning beaches and coastal walks. Belford is pretty and welcoming too - nice pubs and a supermarket just a few minutes walk away. We stayed with our toddler and it was great set up for kids (high chair, plastic kids’ plates, cot, washer/dryer etc). There’s a lovely little playground in Belford too - only 5-10 mins walk away.

    Charlotte2019-09-01T00:00:00Z

Plenty of room for the whole family - parking literally right outside the front door. Lovely Co-op 3 minutes walk away. Northumberland is fantastic for a few days away and the house is highly highly recommended.

  • A great hidden gem of a place, within driving distance of Alnwick and Bamburgh which have plenty to do and see. Such a warm and welcoming place to stay and the log burner made the evenings very cosy. Plenty of space as there were 5 of us, including 2 children. Some lovely thoughtful touches like games for the kids and fresh eggs and a bottle of wine on arrival. The views are amazing too from the cottage. Would recommend highly for a relaxing stay. • What a wonderful cottage! Beautiful old building, lovely cosy furnishings, great garden (with a selection of outdoor toys for kids), remote but easily accessible to the A1 by car, and Claire’s communications were fantastic. A perfect place for a half term getaway with the kids. Thank you Claire, we’ll stay again!

  • I stayed in Claire’s lovely cottage with my wife and 5 year old daughter. Great location to discover Northumberland’s attractions. The cottage has some lovely features and the surroundings were beautiful. The host was exceptionally helpful and friendly, even providing toys for our daughter to play with. The bottle of wine and fresh eggs were a nice touch too. Definitely recommend and would love to stay again - thank you.

  • We booked this Airbnb for a family trip to the country side and it was perfect! The location if fantastic, being a 20 minute drive to the Cheviots and Bamburgh, as well as being 10 minutes from Wooler and close to Alnwick. There is a great pub down the road where we had a good dinner. The space is beautiful, spacious and homely - the log burner was particularly great. Beautiful dark skies at night with lots of stars. Cannot fault at all.

If, like us, you enjoy countryside and coast then Charlie's Place could be the perfect place for you. Our pretty, traditional Northumberland cottage is in the historic village of Belford. The Northumberland Way is on our doorstep and beaches and castles galore are only a few minutes drive away. Our cottage is positioned a couple of minutes stroll from the village centre and has wonderful views of open countryside from the garden. website (Website hidden by Airbnb)
We have been welcoming guests to our lovely cottage for over 10 years and our guest book comments describe it as a 'delightful, home from home', 'welcoming', 'cosy', 'pretty' and somewhere that guests want to return to - which is want we hoped to create when we first found our own special piece of Northumberland to share with others. The lounge is filled with sunshine in the morning and is beautifully cosy at night. We have collected a varied stock of books, games and DVDs for you to explore. Guidebooks and leaflets galore to browse. Our dining table comfortably seats 4 if needed and there is space for a morning coffee in the kitchen - while watching the birds in the garden. The bedrooms offer silent retreats at the end of busy days of sightseeing and you should only be woken by birds singing and the sun peeping in behind the blind. Our kitchen is brand new for 2018 - we are very excited for the new launch! It has everything you need for a self-catering stay and we provide complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Our bathroom has views over the garden and we provide complimentary toiletries. The garden has amazing countryside views and is a wonderfully peaceful place to eat al fresco in summer. We added a summerhouse in 2016 from which some amazing sunsets can regularly be watched - not to mention our incredible star filled skies!
Belford is a historic market town and a welcoming base to spend your holiday in. There is a good sized co-op, coffee shops, farm shop, pubs, chip shop, newsagent, community shop, museum and Churches all within a couple of minutes pleasant stroll from our cottage.
  • We had a wonderful week staying in this gorgeous cottage. It’s a great location, close to the A1, for making day trips to other parts of the region. There are lots of beautiful places to visit. The cottage was beautifully furnished with lots of special touches. The fireplace is lovely to sit in front of in the evening and the views out from the garden on a sunny morning are beautiful. The cottage is also close to a shop for any last minute groceries as well as a great fish and chip shop! Would recommend to anyone. Thanks to Katherine for hosting us, we had a brilliant time.

  • Charlie's Place is a great base for exploring the fantastic beaches, countryside and towns nearby. • We arrived at Charlie’s place on a very cold December afternoon and it was so cosy, warm and inviting. Spotlessly clean and full of lots of extra little touches that make a trip extra special. A few logs and some matches to get the open fire roaring, fresh flowers, milk in the fridge, shower gel and body lotion in the bathroom and loads of hot water. Belford is a pretty village with a pub and a small supermarket. It’s perfectly placed for exploring the Northumberland coastline, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and the beautiful beaches. We had a fabulous time and will be returning soon. Thank you x

  • Katherine's place is just terrific as a base for exploring the Northumberland coast. It was the perfect size for our small family (two adults and a child). There was even room to have two family members round for dinner. The house itself is very cosy, with both central heating and an open fire if you need it. The cooking facilities were ideal too. Katherine is a great host - both welcoming, accommodating and responsive. Much recommended.

    Tim2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie’s Place is a really lovely cosy place to stay if you’re visiting Northumberland. We had everything we needed for us and our two young children. The house is really well presented with lots of nice touches, including an open fire for the cold evenings after a day out. Belford is a pretty village worth a wander around with plenty of amenities. Berwick is up the road, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Craster all a short drive away. Thanks so much, we’d really recommend the property and Katherine was really friendly to communicate with.

We made the cabin from a used shipping container. It’s off grid with just its own simple 12 volt lighting, and no WiFi. There’s board games, a wood burning stove, huge bed, hot shower & a compost loo. Views of Budle Bay & Bamburgh Castle. Situated 1/5 mile down a private forest track, surrounded by nature. Leave the hustle & bustle behind & come switch off & relax. Lots of great pubs & restaurants nearby. Kick back & relax.
The cabin is entirely bespoke, we even made the bed. There’s an instant hot shower & compost loo and a big deck out front with stunning views. It's a learning curve & we'll change it, refine it etc as per the feedback that comes back whilst keeping our original hopes for the cabin. So please do tell us what you like & what you think could make it better & help us create a wonderful space for people.
The cabin is located 2.5 miles from the village of Belford, and 3.5 from Chatton. It’s 0.5 mile down a private forest track. The only neighbour is me! You can totally relax in nature here, there’s nobody to bother you. There's a range of pubs & restaurants in the area to suit all tastes & budgets, you're encouraged to use them & get craicing with the locals.
  • We had a fantastic stay at the Smoke House cabin, it had everything we needed for a cozy stay despite some crazy weather! The bed was so comfy and the log burner warmed up the space really quickly. Belford is just a couple of miles away, we walked in and had a lovely meal at the Black Swan pub then got a taxi back later on. We will definitely be back!

  • Fantastic off grid space with a gorgeous wood burner in a beautiful area, perfect for quiet evenings reading and playing games away from normal hectic life. Don’t top up the log burner at 9pm unless you want to lie awake sweating!

  • Amazing place, secluded in the forest, feels like you’re a long way from anyone. Damp and cold weather but the hut soon warmed up! Nathalie went out of her way to be helpful, her instructions were perfect and suggestions for dinner were great. Would love to come back in the summer.

  • This is a unique and tranquil experience which I would recommend for anyone looking to reconnect with nature

  • I loved my stay here. The drive down the track to the cabin was beautiful. It's such a beautiful, peaceful location and at night I loved looking up through the trees to see so many stars. The woodburner warms up the place really well and there's plenty of wood and kindling to get you going. I had a very relaxing weekend.

The Gardens were lovingly restored by the Duchess of Northumberland, and contain fascinating features like the Poison Garden. While you’re in Alnwick, make sure to pop into Barter Books, the nation’s biggest second-hand bookshop and the place where all those ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters originated from. If you’re still hungry for castles, Lindisfarne is a spectacular destination. The Holy Island seems steeped in time – monks lovingly crafted the Lindisfarne Gospel here in the 700s, and people still come on religious retreats here today. Make sure to time your visit well – the island gets cut off from the mainland at high tide! One of the North East’s best kept secrets are the beaches that stretch for miles along the North Sea. Bamburgh, Embleton and Beadnell are all within driving distance of Mallow Lodge. Northumberland is mountain country and there’s plenty of high spots to choose from. The Cheviot Hills are breathtaking, and walking the ridges you can feel that you’re the only soul in the world. The waterfall of Linhope Spout plunges 18 metres to a pool below, and makes quite a racket! If you get a buzz out of buzzards or want to catch an oystercatcher, then Budle Bay is well worth a visit. Both migrants and natives flock here throughout the year, and there’s always plenty to see. There are binoculars you can borrow at Mallow Lodge. • Craig's place is a very welcoming and very comfortable place to stay. Great location to get around the local area and a bus stop in front of the Black Swan and one further up the hill. We used the bus twice. The Black Swan has a nice atmosphere and very dog friendly. No food on a Wednesday. The Blue Belle hotel serves food between 6pm and 8pm. Would certainly be back and would be recommending Craig's Place to family and friends.

Only a mile away there is a bird-spotting paradise at Budle Bay and it's 2 miles to Bamburgh with its beautiful sandy beach and castle.
  • Julia’s cottage is in a great location - easy to access the beautiful countryside and towns nearby. Cottage itself is lovely and cosy, and the fire is a bonus (it was freezing when we were there!). It’s right next to a railway track, but we didn’t find this disturbing and quite enjoyed listening to the trains! We’d definitely come back.

    Deborah2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We've just returned home after a long weekend stay at station cottage. It was a great base for exploring the area. A very enjoyable stay, we loved playing board games in the living room on the cosy sofa, in front of the beautiful roaring open fire place. The bedding and towels were all impeccably clean and Julia had made it festive with tasteful Christmas decorations and left some bubbly and shortbread for our arrival. The cottage was surprisingly spacious yet also cosy. The cottage is close to the railway line as the name suggests, but didn't cause us any disturbance.

    Samantha2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Railway cottage is lovely, it very comfortable and very well equipped. Its location is ideal for Alnwick, Berwick, Bamburgh Castle.

    John2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third visit to Julia’s cottage, and we’ll be booking again for next year. We find our stays so comfortable and relaxing. We love the Rayburn in the kitchen and the fireplace in the living room, we love watching the trains go by and reading on the comfy settee, we love the many fabulous local walks and beaches, spending time at Barter Books in Alnwick, visiting Holy Island and Berwick.

    Andi2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Another lovely few days. Love the cottage and the location. Hope to return.

    Neil2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, very close to Bamburgh and the surrounding coastline, including Holy Island, Seahouses and Embleton Bay. The passing trains didn't bother us at all, they do start early but don't run through the night. Very comfortable furniture, lovely open fire. We had everything we needed . Would recommend.

  • Amazing location and a beautifully tucked away place for a weekend away. The Shepherds hut could not have been more comfortable and was luxurious inside and out, you did not want for anything and the views are spectacular. Thank you for the welcoming touches of the eggs, cookies & bottle of wine! A perfect hide away and location to be able to enjoy the stunning Northumberland coast and counytryside. Thank you!

    Nick2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin in a gorgeous location. We arrived to a jar of cookies, fresh eggs and a bottle of merlot, so after a long drive that was definitely a welcome sight. Even though we visited in cold and windy February, the hut was toasty warm even through the night when the wind was blowing a gale! Our favourite part of the 4 days we stayed in Northumberland was when we went on a local boat trip out to the Farne Islands from Seahouses; a must for any wildlife lovers (we saw dolphins AND seals!). We will definitely be returning to the area and would recommend this hut to those who love cosy spaces and beautiful views (especially couples). Thanks again for a great stay.

  • This place is amazing - so well-designed and beautiful inside. We thought it was actually bigger than it seems in the photos. Victoria left loads of local info and even a bottle of wine and some cookies - much appreciated! It was perfectly clean, the bed is really comfy, and the field that it's in is really private because it's surrounding by tall hedges/trees. Lovely views and a great location close to loads of places on the Northumberland Coastal Route. I've recommended it to friends and family and would visit again myself :)

    Katie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Hut is in a fantastic location with everything we needed for our stay provided. Really enjoyed our few days away in the cute and cosy hut!

  • A great little getaway place with stunning views set near the Northumberland coast line. With views of Holy Island from your bedroom window to the fields of green surrounding you a truly peaceful and tranquil getaway spot. The cottage has everything you need and we were even gifted some cookies, wine and fresh free range eggs upon arrival. Top class host and top class destination.

  • Victoria's beautiful and cosy shepherds hut was everything we wanted for a quiet and peaceful few days in beautiful Northumberland. Ideally located and excellent directions made it easy to find, even in the dark and we were welcomed warmly with a lovely selection of goodies which was a thoughtful touch. Small but everything you need for a short stay and the bed was super comfy and shower was excellent! Lots of handy information for the local area including maps of walks was great and we had an amazing time celebrating the new year. Great outside space too which would make it a perfect summer getaway in warmer months!! Highly recommend!

  • Absolutely perfect for a base to go exploring Northumberland. Lovely clean and welcoming flat with everything you could need to enjoy your stay. We had 4 adults staying and we had plenty of room to do jigsaws, eat, store our things and generally not feel like we were on top of each other. Great value and excellent location.

  • We’ve stayed in a couple of places described as “Bolt Hole’s” on Airbnb and experienced them being rather compact. This apartment felt spacious, is immaculately clean and has both all the amenities to self cater and the perfect location for several pubs/restaurants if you’d rather eat out! We chose the latter and weren’t disappointed with either of the two pubs, the bustling hotel and delicious restaurant in our short stay, but we were slightly disappointed that we didn’t stay longer - we couldn’t fit everything in to our 3 night stay..... Guess we’ll have to come back 😉

  • Just had a great four night stay at the Bamburgh Bolthole. The accommodation is sparkling clean, light and airy with everything you need. it is a pleasure to come back to after days out exploring the lovely Northumberland coast and surrounding area. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Ground floor bedroom, King size bed, with sole use of shower room next door. I do have another room available - twin or super king (zip & link) - to view: https://abnb.me/YTS4s8Xh13 or go to my personal profile and click on "other listings by this host". You can help yourself to a continental breakfast to be taken in the kitchen/dining room
  • Ruth has a lovely new home and we were extremely comfortable. She communicated with us very well and checking in and out was very easy. She gave us a great cup of tea when we arrived and we had some very good chats. She provided a delicious continental style breakfast. We would highly recommend a stay with Ruth and Mousie her jolly and friendly Whippet.

Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. • Can highly recommend The Old School house. It was a very large space and really well decorated. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Close to some great areas for sight seeing - Seahouses for a boat trip across to the Farne Islands, Warkworth Castle, town of Carster, Holy Island and Etal. Can recommend the Pack Horse Inn at Elingham for dinner.

  • The Old School Annex is perfectly positioned for many local attractions. Being just off the A1 made getting around very easy. The accommodation is extremely spacious, clean and quiet. We stayed here with our two dogs and there was more than enough room for us all! The memory foam mattress was very comfortable indeed and that mixed with the sea air ensured we have a lot of very good quality sleep which we needed after a very busy few months at work. The kitchen is very well stocked if you want to cook, but with so many wonderful places to eat nearby, we didn't take full advantage! We would highly recommend The Old School Annex to others.

  • Spacious accommodation

    Melanie2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • This flat is very spacious. The proximity to the A1 means it is very easy to get to the tourist attractions. We particularly liked Holy Island and Alnwick castle. The White Swan pub has excellent food and is only across the road. Do get the shopping in before you arrive as the nearest food shops are about 8 miles away. We recommend this accommodation as it is comfortable and convenient for tourists.

  • A lovely cottage in a great location for exploring Northumberland. Very easy to check into and the properly was exceptionally clean. The welcome basket was much appreciated and we found our stay very comfortable. The photos don’t do this cottage justice- I t’s even nicer than in the pictures. When we realised we had left an item of clothing behind after leaving, Tony was very quick to reply and post it to us, which was much appreciated. Our two dogs loved it too and the trains didn’t bother any of us. Fantastic stay!

  • A cosy, comfortable cottage with lots of amenities, spotless and beautifully furnished. Well situated for great days out in North Northumberland.

    Greg2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Station Cottage is a delightful, cosy home from home, very well located for exploring the Northumberland Coast and National Park and contained all the amenities that we needed. Check in was very smooth, the cottage was spotlessly clean and Tony and Michelle had left a thoughtful basket of welcome goodies. We chose the cottage because we were allowed to bring our 5 month old puppy, Luca. He was made to feel very welcome too, with dog bowls and a special towel! The cottage had no “doggy smell’, no dog hairs, no mess in the enclosed front garden, and of course we left it that way too. Luca brought his own sleeping crate and day bed and loved his holiday, The area is very dog friendly and we would love to visit again. I would highly recommend this cottage whether or not you have a dog. There is also a delightful bedroom for 2 children, which we did not use. The cottage is next to the railway line. There are high speed trains throughout the day but the cottage is double glazed and noise was not a problem. We enjoyed the trains and they stopped at night.

    Penelope2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is just lovely. We had a long weekend - Friday to Monday - and the trains did not bother us one iota. The cottage is superbly equipped, comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Northumberland and especially the castle and beach at Bamburgh.

    Maggie2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for all things to visit. Beach only 3-4 miles away. Some lovely villages around. House was very clean and had a lovely surprise with wine and biscuits on arrival. First time to Northumberland and will definitely be back. Even being by a railway line was never an issue. Would definitely go back. Thanks again.

    Abigail2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit and was the relaxing weekend we needed away from normal life. The spot is breathtaking, you could look out the window for hours (in the rain) or sit outside all day in the summer. The log burner kept us warm all weekend and we were kept safe and sound through storm Dennis. Harvest and Dave really went the extra mile with their hospitality and are both really interesting and kind people. Lovely to see them again. Until next time 👍🏻

    Madi2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place. The hut is laid out really well and had everything I needed for a hassle free stay. Harvest was very helpful in pointing out local places to go. I imagine in the summer it is idyllic and I will definitely be back. The chocolate cake was just amazing!

  • What a gorgeous wee Shepherd’s Hut. The wood burning stove kept us cosy and warm even though it was blowing a hooley outside! The rural landscape and woodland setting is beautiful and waking up with birdsong in the morning is really special. Harvest is a wonderful, informative host and the added treat of chocolate cake was really thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Expect to relax in this peaceful place and feel at one with nature.

  • Great location and perfect for our family getaway to Northumberland. Bamburgh on the doorstep with great food (the potted lobster particularly, don’t forget Apple Inn/Apple Core in Lucker too) and castle and Alnwick a short drive away. Property is the best equipped I’ve stayed at with all the things you might need (including a kite!). Single level cottage, clean, modern decor- couldn’t fault it. Perfect for a young family (travelled with 3 year old and 9 month old)

  • Perfect location for our walk along the coastal path and close to pubs and restaurants in Bamburgh. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • Friendly host, cosy space with large washroom, well-situated for the Dunes or the Castle or a short walk into the village!

  • This is a great setup with a lovely bedroom with a fantastic view over the fields to the rear of the property. We always book ‘entire place’ but this was very private indeed. The en-suite shower room is really fresh, modern and has a great shower. There is a great coffee machine with pods, which adds real style. The position is super close to the dunes and easy walking distance to Bamburgh Castle which looms over the beach. Sarah was a extremely nice host and very helpful, works full time but is very quick to respond with any query. We found Bamburgh the most lovely place to eat and Sarah’s recommendation of the Potted Lobster to eat dinner was an excellent choice. I cannot recommend the location enough. A highly successful and very pleasant stay.

  • Andrew was a great host, quick to respond and always attentive to any requirements we had. Rose cottage itself is a lovely cottage, clean and cosy and set in a beautiful part of the world. Would highly recommend to anyone.

  • Cute little cottage a short drive from Bamburgh. The cottage is nicely equipped and very clean. It has a shared hot tub with some other cottages on the property. Very quiet and close to a pretty river.
