Kid-friendly holiday rentals in Kyotango

Chie & Chris's place is located in a tiny, very quiet alley in the heart of Gion. There are several temples & shrines located within walking distance, & we found incredible restaurants nearby. They gave us clear instructions on what to tell the cab driver to get there, & self check-in was easy. The accomodations were pristinely clean. The master bedroom with a large Western style bed is upstairs, & the steps are steep which was no issue for us at all but might be for elderly, injured, or handicapped folks. My 6'5" husband had to be careful to duck under door frames because of his height but staying in a historic machiya was worth the small effort. Our 14-year-old son slept on a futon on the main level & loved it. Communication was excellent, & they gave us numerous recommendations for restaurants. There is a Lawson konbini & a grocery store close by, as well as a quaint bar across the alley. We loved being within walking distance of the action coupled with the quietness of the night.

Amazing place in a wonderful cozy town. The host was friendly and helpful, much like the kind locals of Obama.

We loved our stay at Yamano’s place. The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet, but it was just a short walk to the river, bus stop, and train station. The hosts were extremely responsive and kind. They met us at check in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They also sent suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wonderful Stay with an Amazing Host! We had a fantastic stay at this Airbnb, made even more memorable by the incredibly friendly and thoughtful host, Ms. Judy Kim. She contacted us well in advance with clear check-in instructions and was flexible in accommodating our arrival time. She even met us in person to assist with parking and gave us a warm welcome with a house tour. We were touched by the little gestures—iced bottled water, delicious snacks, and her genuine conversation where she shared about herself and made us feel right at home. She even helped with our luggage and came to send us off when we checked out. It’s rare to meet such a hospitable and caring host. Highly recommended—we would love to stay again!

Wow this was a great find. Authentic Japanese accommodation, 10 mins walk from the train station with easy access to Kyoto. Very comfortable stay here, would definitely come back

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful traditional Japanese-style home in Kyoto. The house perfectly blended old and new, with charming touches like tatami mats and modern comforts. The beds were very comfortable, and the home was spotless, well-equipped, and thoughtfully arranged. The location was ideal — just a 5-minute walk to Nijo subway station and within 10 minutes of Nijo Castle, one of Kyoto’s main attractions. Our host, Hori-san, was incredibly welcoming and shared great local tips that enriched our trip. She also gave us a warm tour of the house, helping us feel right at home. We highly recommend the ‘Memory Kyoto Bike Tour,’ which starts just five minutes away. We’re so glad we chose this place and would happily return. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and comfortable stay in Kyoto.

Its a perfect little spot in a great bieghborhood! The hosts are lovely!!! Theres not much of a kitchen so eating out better from here. No living room either .. but lovely outdoor space .. fantastic shower!!! Quiet great air conditioning and close to everything !!! Hists are so great!!! We will definately return!!!!

This was the perfect spot for our short stay in Kyoto. Central enough, but on a quiet street. The room had all that we needed, and we appreciated the free use of the washing machine.

Our stay at Playzendo was perfect! Great location and the washer made it easy to refresh and clean our clothes. Highly recommend if you need an easy and convenient spot to stay in Kyoto!

Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit in diesem schönen Apartment. Es liegt sehr zentral, ist groß und mit allem nötigen ausgestattet (inkl. Waschmaschine). Die Gastgeber sind überaus freundlich und sehr zuvorkommend. Wir haben uns wie zu Hause gefühlt. Das Apartment befindet sich allerdings auf der 4.Etage ohne Aufzug. Für uns war das kein Problem aber man sollte es beachten. Falls wir nochmal in Kyoto sind, kommen wir gerne wieder!

Nous avons passé un agréable séjour à Kyoto. Le logement était conforme aux photos, propre et bien situé. L’instruction pour récupérer les clés mériterait d’être clarifiée (il était indiqué de tourner dans un sens, alors qu’il fallait faire l’inverse), mais heureusement, une personne très gentille à la réception nous a aidés. Après notre départ, j’ai pensé avoir oublié un objet dans l’appartement : l’hôte a été très réactif et m’a assisté rapidement, ce que j’ai beaucoup apprécié. Merci encore !

We enjoyed our stay in Kyoto. It was in a great location and we were able to get to everything fairly easily. The space was small, and there is not space for oversized luggage. We carefully laid them on the bathroom floor near the windows and that still gave us enough space to move about. The rest of the flooring is tatami mats so you need to be very carefulnot to roll luggage on it. You also have to walk up a narrow stepped staircase for 3 floors to make it to the room so please keep that in mind. It had beautiful traditional japanese touches that made it stand out. The open air bath was a lovely feature and I especially enjoyed that. It also has a door for privacy. My husband and I did notice that it is not possible to fill the bathtub while the shower was on, so I would suggest filling the bathtub before you shower. Keep these things in mind when you are deciding if it's right for you. Overall, it was lovely and the japanese beds helped our bodies recover from each day of walking.

Essa pequena casa é uma experiência única. Sentar na varanda em frente ao riacho é muito confortável e gostoso. dormir em casa de tatame foi muito especial. A cozinha é pequena recomendo apenas par a pequenas refeições. A casa é fresca e o banheiro e duchas são bem equipados. Obrigada .

The Kyoto apartment was well positioned, close to several bus lines and only about a five minute walk from the river and many restaurants and bars. The washing machine was appreciated and it felt more down to earth to get the experience of a proper apartment while on our travels. The hosts were very communicative and made us feel well hosted.

The host is the most amazing and kind hosts I have been across in my 9 years of being with Airbnb. He picked us up from the station since we had large bags and a baby stroller. We had a good time at his cafe where he hosted breakfast for, he also had fruits ready for us when we arrived. The location is also simply perfect in terms of connectivity to public transport, restaurants and supermarkets. We hope we can stay here whenever we visit Japan again.

We had a great time at this apartment! This was the perfect place to stay in Kyoto. there is a ton to do in the immediate area around the neighborhood and May was an amazing host!

The place is very clean, neat and tidy. Has really good quality amenities including an espresso machine, a dryer room. It's very easy to find as it appears on the map directly when you put House Nozomi Hayashi San is very responsive and looked into one of our concerns immediately. It's near a bus stop with multiple buses going into the town. Katsuragawa station is about 1.5 KM, so bit of a walk when you have luggage or are tired. But we got cabs fairly easily. Do your research on places you want to travel to in Kyoto so you can see if the location works for you. In terms of convenience, lots of shops, supermarkets etc are available. It feels spacious. It would have been better to have access to the wardrobe, but we had a short stay so we did not mind living out of our suitcases. Overall good place, good amenities, location is good but that's subjective. Good, professional host.

Le logement était très propre et bien décoré. C'est le seul appartement du 5eme étage, c'est donc très calme. Depuis la fenêtre il est possible de voir le Kiyomizu Dera. L'emplacement est très bien. Il est possible d'aller à gion et Nishiki market à pied. Plein de bon restaurant à proximité et des boulangeries, il y a aussi un fresco ouvert 24/24 en plus du 7-eleven au coin de la rue. C'était très pratique de pouvoir stationner notre Toyota sienta devant l'immeuble.
