TABITABI is a 100-square-meter, two-story house built in the Taisho period with a modern style. You can enjoy an accommodation experience unique to Kyoto, where the old and new coexist, in a creative space with a harmonious modern interior, while retaining the remnants of when it was a wooden house, such as the beams with a history of over 100 years running along the high ceilings and beautifully decorated fittings. There is a private garden and open-air bath on the first floor. There is also a state-of-the-art unit bathroom on the second floor. We have two Simmons mattresses, the best in the United States. The Japanese-style room is decorated with a "vortex" design jointly created by a Kyoto washi maker with over 100 years of history and Japan's leading furniture craftsman, resulting in a shoji screen with a unique blend of light and design. The Japanese-style room cushions are "stylish and comfortable to sit on for a long time."We have placed the "Ojami Zabuton" cushion developed by Takahata-ya in the theme of "Fashionable and long-lasting comfort on the floor". Founded 100 years ago, Konaka Takahoka still does everything by hand. You can experience the comfort born from ingenuity that cannot be handled by machines, such as forming kamaboko molds and cutting corners by traditional handmade techniques.

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

Great place to stay. Walking distance from Kyoto station, though may be arduous for some people with luggage. Accessible by bus - abt 2 stops away and there’s plenty of buses that can get you around the vicinity. There’s a Lawson nearby so it was easy to get snacks, drinks etc. Peaceful and quiet neighbourhood. The room is a typical size in Japan but we loved that it was clean, well-maintained and we had access to Netflix on TV! There is no cooking space; only a shared microwave in the corridor and a coffee machine at L1. Hosts were extremely helpful and detailed with their instructions 👍 Thank you so much!

Worth every bit what we paid for. Location was amazing - 5min walk from station, a Lawsons next door, 2 amazing restaurants in a block, Nishiki market a 10min walk - and still so quiet! The shower and bathtub were exquisite. You need to stay at this place.

I am a Chinese tourist, the house owner and her son welcomed us warmly, they can communicate simply in Chinese, so it will be convenient if Chinese tourists come here.It is about 10 minutes away from the nearest subway station, which makes it really not particularly convenient to come and go, but it is nice to have a quaint decoration of the house, comfortable to sleep, clean and tidy, if you want to experience Kyoto traditional B&B, this house is highly recommended.
