Jacks_placeballarat. Original 1960s classic.

Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. More than happy to be contacted with any questions relating to Ballarat in general, food, wine and things to do. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

Close to parklands, Lake Wendouree, Lake Burrumbeet, YMCA swimming pool, art gallery, wineries and lots of great cafes and restaurants. It’s a few minutes drive to Lucas shopping centre, 10-minute drive to the CBD and 20 minutes to Sovereign Hill. For safety reasons, the gas fireplace is not available but has 3 reverse cycle aircon.

You can walk to the supermarket, patisserie, 2 hotels, the wine bar, museum and the other amenities. The walking track goes to St George’s lake in the Wombat Forest. Relax on the property or use it as a base for bush walking in the nearby Mount Cole State forest or visiting the Pyrenees wineries. Abundant wildlife including wallabies, echidnas & a wide assortment of birdlife. We are 15 km from Beaufort. Cosy cast iron chiminea on the deck; firewood supplied. Sadly, the historic meditation temple (c.1995) was destroyed in the February 2024 bushfire.

Close to parklands, Lake Wendouree, art galleries, wineries and lots of great cafes and restaurants. The Ballarat-Skipton Railtrail is just 300 metres away - perfect for quiet country walks and cyclists. It is comfortable inside and out with plenty of shady spots to sit in the garden.

Had a great stay. one of the most comfortable beds ever at an air b and b. best linen and pillows ever! the house was very charming and we had a roaring fire each night. very atmospheric! Sharon had left foliage and flowers and so many thoughtful touches. really special! there was even the most beautiful little carrot cake along with breakfast supplies. a very informative guest book too! Gavin and Rosemary were very gracious hosts - friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. The cottage is very comfortable as represented in the listing photos, only a short walk to shops, restaurants and the local botanical gardens. It is a historically listed country cottage set in a delightful private garden setting complete with very cute peking chooks roaming free. The setup is ideal for a family group or close friends. Gavin and Rosemary provided breakfast provisions which was much appreciated.

The pure definition of serenity! Beautiful inside and out and every inch thoughtfully detailed and styled. Susan’s property had even more than what was listed. The perfect space to relax with a glass of wine infront of the fire, read a book under the vines, so many gorgeous picnic spots. Susan has thought of everything, curated walking tracks, picnic rug already in the picnic basket, salts already ready for bath tub, games and books to relax with. Coffee machine ready for your morning coffee while watching the kangaroos graze in the sunlight. Bliss

The property was incredible, the props and theme as you drove up the individual cabin were so cool, especially in the dark of night. The space was surreal with the windows surrounding the bed, so cozy and when raining. The outdoor bath was amazing, the lights surrounding it made it perfect. The staff were attentive too, coming to check all was well on the 2nd day after check in. Would definitely recommend any of the options on the property!
