Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

This was such a wonderful and refreshing experience — truly a treat for both body and soul! You can immediately tell this space was thoughtfully created by an artist. The room has a tropical rainforest vibe, is spotless and beautifully arranged, with every detail carefully considered. It felt just like coming home. The host’s attention to detail was exceptional — not only was the space clean and stylish, but they were also incredibly warm, welcoming, and took the time to walk us through everything we needed to know about the suite and the neighbourhood. As a lovely final touch, they even prepared a generous breakfast for us before we left. Spending our holiday in such a space was a joy — peaceful, inspiring, and filled with genuine hospitality. I’ll definitely be recommending this place to my friends, and I’ll be staying here again the next time I visit!

Steve's place was actually nicer than it looked like in the photos. There were many really nice perks: (a) lots of space to hang clothes and other clothes storage, (b) beautiful plush towels and face cloths; (c) lots of coffee pods, sugar and other stuff to get you started the morning after a later arrival; (d) the entire apartment was thoroughly clean; (e) lots of light with two balconies. At least for us, there were fresh flowers in 3 rooms. Nice touch! Steve was very responsive when we were trying to get in. The location: a very safe and fun area of downtown Victoria. Many restaurants on nearby Yates.

I stayed at Dianne’s place for two nights in the Zen room. The room looks exactly like it’s shown in the photos on the listing. This place is very centrally located. It’s a 10 minute walk to the Parliament building. The street where the Airbnb is located is also very beautiful.. love the vibe! It’s a great little spot if you want to visit Victoria and spend a few nights and be walking distance from all the attractions. The room was stocked with a coffee maker, cups, glasses… the host had also baked brownies and they were waiting for me when I checked into the room. Thank you so much Dianne! :)

This condo was perfect for our family trip, it was a good size for the four of us and the beds were comfortable for a good nights sleep. What we loved most about the condo was the location and the patio. We walked everywhere during the day and relaxed on the patio in the evenings. Restaurants are everywhere in walking distance with a convenience store below, a restaurant and Starbucks across the street. I’d highly recommend Glenn & Gillian’s place for a comfortable stay & location wise, We will be back!
