The place had a cozy, homey feel with stunning surroundings, and Lu was incredibly welcoming. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mdumbi!

Our first visit to the Transkei.. what an amazing experience! We loved every minute of it.. The cottage is comfortable, has everything you may need, and the most amazing view of the beach. Leading up to our stay Patricia was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. During our stay Corina was very helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend Davisons Cottage for your next visit to the beautiful Transkei! Hope to be visiting myself again in the not too distant future..

If you love the outdoors and want to visit a place still untouched by the commercialisation that is happening everywhere else go to Mdumbi beach. What to expect? The hosts Lu and Otto are rock stars, more than adequate backpackers accommodations, a beautiful beach and amazing pools in the river for swimming. The road from Nqeleni has amazing views but is not for those with gravel issues so be prepared for that. Don't expect? Excess and opulence, it's not necessary and there is no place for it. I will definitely be going back...

Awesome place with very friendly hosts. Unfortunately I had to cut my trip short but I will definitely be going there again. Great views and amazing beaches.

Sleepy Hollow is a really typical Transkei getaway. There is no doubt it is very rustic and not recommended if that's not your cup of tea. Having said that, it has electricity, internet, a great water collection and pumping system, a flushing loo, a spotless shower, a built in braai and kitchen with a fridge and freezer and a gas stove plus all the cutlery crockery and utensils you need. We spent many hours chilling on the deck, reading books and drinking G&T's or walking on the beach collecting shells. The hike to Lwandile was well worth it. We left feeling properly relaxed and suitably plugged out from the hustle and bustle. We also ate enough crayfish to feed an army! Not taking away from the amazing holiday, be aware of the following: - It is very remote - It has 3 bedrooms and a deck open on all side, so when it rains there is nowhere to congregate - It is a fair walk to the beach and the closest swimming beach is a bit of a car mission. What a stunning place to visit! The area boasts the most magnificent surrounds, the locals are friendly and the cottage was comfortable and well equipped. beaut!

We enjoyed our stay here while working in Zithulele village. Would recommend bringing one’s own drinking water and to consider a strong vehicle if it’s been raining for the access road.

Wow wow wow what a hidden gem. This little house was so perfect, it's even more beautiful in person than in the photos. There are such friendly people all around you. The beach is a short walk and so worth it, it was so private and peaceful even in the middle of December. The house had plenty of space and everything you could ever need, the inside outside feel really was something quite special. Mdumbi is also a really organised backpackers with a lovely cafe/restaurant and delicious dinners, when the other backpackers we'd gone to visit had run out of food. We will definitely be back again soon!
