“Excellent stay in Thattekad, close to the bird sanctuary and the flowing river and amidst rubber plantations. The property is enormous and the house tastefully built, minimalistic but elegantly furnished and staff to take care of all of our needs. Tom was very responsive throughout and helped answer all our questions timely. We were very warmly greeted by Jijo, Tom's relative and caretaker of the property who is also an expert birder and acted as our guide for our birding outing next morning. We really appreciated Jijo's company throughout - his birding knowledge is on-point and he was able to guide us to a couple local eateries that served very reasonable and delicious local food. Since there were no additional guests in the house at the time, we had the whole place to ourselves. The room is very comfortable and elegant. There is little to no cellular network in the area - just something to be aware of but a good excuse to disconnect from society and enjoy a relaxing getaway. Wifi is available but can be spotty. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped and we appreciated the ability to cook simple breakfast (eggs and toast) and brew our own tea/coffee. Overall, this is a wonderful stay, worth every penny.”
Riverland's Homestay offers a traditional exterior and a modern yet subtle interior design. You could just relax at the balcony of rooms facing the magnificent river or take a dip in the outdoor pool or go kayaking, swimming or set on a guided boat ride in the Periyar. We have a very quiet neighborhood and all you would hear would be birds and the flowing water. It has always been a dream for us to share the beauty of our place and the positive energy it provides to people all around the world..
“We were a group of 16 adults and 4 kids. We had a splendid time at River land. Mr and Mrs Jose, and their son, Naveen, went out if their way to ensure we had a very comfortable stay at their place. Food was pre ordered and super delicious. Quantity was more than adequate. There was a slight delay in check in because the earlier guests over stayed. But the hosts ensured we were comfortable until the rooms were readied. The resort is right on the banks of the Periyar river, in the middle of a rubber estate. Easy to locate with GMaps. The river borders the property. Across the river, on the other side is a jungle and we spotted wild elephants on several occasions. The location is beautiful and you get a wonderful view of the river and the surrounding jungles. There are 4 rooms. One room is massive, but it has no verandah. 2 other rooms are spacious and have a verandah overlooking the river. The 4th room is not as spacious and only used if there are too many guests. Dining area is open and next to the pool. There is a courtyard behind the dining area. Pool is reasonable in size and fresh river or well water is readily available. There is a large lawn in front and ample space to park cars. Kids have loads of space to run around. Food is cooked in the kitchen at the resort. You have to pre order the menu and quantity prior arrival. Food was really yummy. Served on time and more than sufficient for all of us. Exactly as we had ordered. This was inspite of their lead cook not being there during our stay. On our request, the hosts had arranged a camp fire. This was the first time they were doing it. Later we realised it was silly of us to have asked for a campfire in a place as warm as Kodanad. It's too hot to sit around the camp fire even though it was end Dec. But the hosts obliged nevertheless. Meat and veggies for barbecue was prepared by the hosts. But we had to carry our own barbecue kit. In the morning Mr.Jose rowed us across the river in 2 batches. 2 people also had a go on the kayak. The boat trip across and the location we were taken to was really nice. Proper safety gear including life jackets were provided. Overall, a very nice to unwind and relax. The hosts are super good. We had a great time. Thank you Mrs and Mr Jose. Thank you Vicky for all your help in ensuring our comfort.”
