Tips from locals
There is always something to see in the woodland, along the river or up on Blackford Hill. The high point of the year is May and June for the breeding season of the various woodland birds. Species seen include tits, bullfinch, greenfinch, woodpeckers, grey wagtail, heron, sparrowhawk, owls, warblers and spotted flycatcher. The area tends to be very busy with families at the weekends. Accessible by bus, numbers 16 and 17 from Princes St., alight at Comiston Drive and walk up Braid Rd. to entrance to Hermitage. Alternatively bus numbers 40 and 41 to Balckford pond.
