Tsukiji Paradiso

Why locals recommend it

Of all the Italian restaurants in the Tsukiji area, this is one of the best, with regular queues outside at lunchtime to prove it. My recommendation is the pescatore, made with fresh mussels, clams, and whatever other shellfish is fresh that day—a hearty dish that you’ll want to eat again. It can be hard to get a reservation here, so your best bet is to put your name down on the lunchtime list when they put the sheet of paper out at 10:30 am, and then come back at 11 am when the restaurant opens. Alternatively, aim to arrive just before closing time.

Paradise for food lovers, indeed. This charming, aqua-painted trattoria plays on its proximity to Tsukiji with seafood pasta dishes that will make you want to lick the plate clean. Their signature linguine is packed with shellfish in a scrumptious tomato, chilli and garlic sauce. Lunch (from ¥980) is a bargain; book for dinner.
